Recover deleted photo files? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I accidentally deleted the whole gallery file on my galaxy s3 when I'm in the My File "app".
Don't ask me how....
I can still see the photos in the gallery, but the problem is I can't back up the files on to my computer, because the file don't exist.
I tried several programs, they either don't work or you have to pay.
Help???

Not possible. I bet you anything that after a reboot, those images will be goners.
File deletion equals permanently gone.
Sorry about that.

I restarted my phone several time, and the pictures is still there.
I can not play the video, but I can see the image.
The file no longer exist, i think if i clear gallery cache, the pics will be gone.
Is there any program to pull the pics out?

No, there's no program, as the picture files d o n o t e x i s t anymore. The cache still shows them, yes, but because the files are gone, you can't get the pictures.

[Q] Copy/paste into music folder is not working

I can not copy/paste any music (mp3) into the music folder.
I get "Device has either stopped responding or been disconnected".
I then go back, bring up the Movies folder and it pastes into that just fine.
Anyone else having this issue, or should I be uploading music onto my prime in a different manner than opening files and copying/pasting?
Factory rest fixed the issue. I hadn't put muchon this yet so I thought I,d give it a try. I was surprised to see ICS remained. I thought with the reset it would revrt back to honeycomb, but it did not.
I simply can't write to the Music folder. Just tells me it has failed. I can't delete the music files in there. Same goes with the Pictures folder.
What gives?
Just for grins, I tried to paste into my Music folder and had no issues. It's a stock Prime (non-rooted) with ICS. (I used ES File Explorer on the Prime to do the copy.) I even tried it with my music player running with no problems.
Is some syncing program perhaps tying up your Music folder? Hard to believe any syncing program would actually be able to modify your folder permissions. Personally, I'd try stopping Asus Sync (my primary suspect, and I am NOT running it) and perhaps also look at my running tasks and kill anything that has to do with music and try it again.
Mine is stock and right out of the box. Tried copying to the Music folder from USB - and Moving files from SD Card to internal storage using BOTH ES File Explorer and the "pre-loaded" File Manager program.
ES File Explorer tells me "pasting failed" and the File Manager just says "Unable to Paste" or something similar.
I don't have Asus Sync running either and I've rebooted the tablet thinking there was an issue with something holding it up.
I also can not delete the Music files that are pre-installed in that folder nor can I delete the Pictures out of the picture folder!
I dunno?!?!?

I had thought that had something to do with my issue. I was able to delete the preinstalled music songs from the Music folder, but, not really as when I turned my TFP on those files still showed up and played. It was then I tried to load mp3 into the Music folder and I got the error message.
Also, weird, after the factory reset, those preinstalled music songs/files are no longer there. Very odd.
It was only the music file that I had issues with. All other files worked fine. Before I did the reinstall I pasted a few music files into the "Movies", they went in OK and the stock music player, along with the "My Net" app located and played them without issue.
I tried a reboot but it did nothing. It was the factory reset that fixed the issue.
Oh, my TFP is out of box, no root, nothing special otherwise. Sync running.
Has anybody else tried a factory reset to verify this fixes the issue? I am having the same issue that the paste fails when trying to add to the music folder. I don't really want to go through a factory reset since everything else is working just to find out it didn't fix the issue. Thanks.

I wouldn't want to do a factory reset, either.
Try a hard reset (cold boot) instead, and see if that works. Just open up a paper clip and stick it in the little hole just below the microSD card slot on your Prime -- your Prime will reboot. You lose nothing with a hard reset -- and it can do a lot of good. Some folks recommend that you do a hard reset before firmware updates to clean things up and be safe -- I did this before the ICS update.

I figured as much, as you tried everything else! It is still worth a try for others. It seems all of our Primes are acting a little differently.
Just out of curiosity, have any of you looked at the permissions on your Music folder in ES File Explorer? Mine is "drw"... Wondering if some app changed yours to Read only.
Theres no quick fix

I do not have this issue, but when I did a full reset to clear some other issues (successfully) it wasn't all that bad. In fact, if you have selected the choices to backup your Google Account and settings, the worst of it is the wait for apps to re-download. I am not rooted, so could not use Titanium Backup, but the Market did a fine job of restoring my apps. All 170 f them, LOL. Took about 50 minutes. The only items I had to manually set were things like "Allow Unknown Sources" and a few similar items. Less than an hour, AND I have the satisfaction that I now have a "clean" ICS installation.

I did not.
I had not invested a lot of time inputting info and such on my Prime as of yet so, after trying the hard reset to no avail, I just said, **** it, wipe everything and start again.
No problems since.
Hmm reset work?
I have noticed, though, that whenever I copy/paste a mp3 file into the music file it asks if I am sure I want to continues as "Your device may not be able to play or view this file."
Anyone else get this?
Yes, I get that with my Nexus as well. It's just windows being windows. I think it has something to do with the new file system as I never got it with my Thunderbolt or, my original TF.
Haven't had a file copy over that hasn't played so I just hit the continue button.

just an update.
My friend's Prime encountered the same problem. He couldn't upload any files into the "Music" directory.
After checking out this thread, I told him to do a factory rest, and It worked.
Now problem solved. So anyone has same problem, the factory reset do work.
Here's what I did when I couldn't copy and paste into the music folder. I just deleted the music folder, named the new folder Music with my new music in it and copied and pasted the entire folder in place of the stock music folder and it worked just fine. Did the same thing with the movie folder too.

I renamed the two folders and created new ones with the original names. It seems fine, but I can't delete the old folders.
checked the properties of the music folder. It is set to read and write. I was also able to rename it. Still wont let me delete it though. oh well, if this is the only problem I end up having with my prime I will b extremely happy.

anyone??????
For me this happens when I first boot up. It shows that there is no music in play music, and no pics in the gallery app. I usually just wait, and it fixes it self. Idk why this would work, but try using a file explorer (I us es file explorer) and playing a couple of songs through that. One time play music recognized my songs after doing that, but I don't know if it was because of that.

There's a setting somewhere in system settings that you can switch to use internal storage. I've never had a problem and with the os recognizing media with that checked. Requires a reboot though.

Try to view your sd card from a computer or a file browser, look for sd card1 , sdcard2 .. if you have this its just because of the new
base through the cm10 system. It no longer uses EMMC as the path, easiest fixes are under settings-advanced-use internal storage or copy sd card1 into sdcard0 where the path is looking for music and pictures. That should fix it!! Try to reinstall cm10 if that didnt work, fresh wipe, and before your phone boots up the first time, pull the sd card out and let it boot completely then add the sd card back. GOOD LUCK

Im going to need some more info to better assist you then.
Of course you have the moto photon..
What kernel are you using? 1.3 should be the only one stable for a daily driver.
Try re-dowloading the rom from Jokersax.com and do a complete hard reset in CWM recovery.
Please verify you are using the jokersax recovery v3 NOT V4 .. v4 has a known issue when flashing gapps.
Try to do the hard reset 2x before doing any flashing. Hard reset all, clear the devlik cash as well 2x to avoid any issues.
At this point, going into mounts and storage you might want to go ahead and mount and format ALL the storage locations, pull the sd card out so it dosnt recieve a wipe. You may also want to remove your media from the sd card , format and only move back the DCIM picture folder for now.
Once your to that point, install cm10.. do not do anything else.. boot up and test the rom for boot, once you have boot, just go back into recovery and start flashing anything you need. i suggest the latest gapps, the cdma data fix, and mms fix 2 try this.. then re-boot and allow android to upgrade your fixes. once you have booted, go into the settings and choose the advanced-use internal.
Open voice dialer and say open APNS ( once opened it should be BLANK ) i know dont worrie, just hit your menue button and click return to deafault, then re-boot and your data connection, mms and pic mail all should be perfect. Add the sd card in and open gallery. give it time to refresh, mine took almost 2 minutes for pictures to load. If not i would use ( ROM TOOLBOX) or equivilent app that will allow you to browse your directorys with full access to make copys or rename items. Find the storage location and find the sdcard0 and sdcard1.. make a copy of the dcim folder in the sdcard1 that actually has the pictures there, and copy the folder to the other side as well so they are identical.. ICS doesnt look for EMMC anymore and is designed to have the two spaces for memory to support some apps..
Reboot after the copy and try to veiw pictures and music.. Apollo music is my favorite but seems to have some issues working well with google play music as well.. it seems if you run one dont run the other one unless you have closed the process out, I HAD ALOT OF FC issue without doing that each time.. Also use ROM MANAGER to run a fix permissions or do it inside the Recovery mode.
Verifiy some of this information for me and we can get this straightend out.. If you feel that ive helped or resolve the issue let me know!!

Also i forgot to mention to copy the music as well. I would do ALL the copy work from inside the phone not from a computer at this point knowing that the computer does not see the storage spaces correctly, ROM TOOLBOX PRO has given me the best results.. Also try NOT having internal storage selected first and see what shows up if anything. You can also keep the card out and take a picture to see what side your phone uses to view/save the photos and thats the place old pictures need to be as well to be viewed.. I know you might be frustrated at this point but take each step one by one and see what has changed and the results that came from the change.. i didnt do ANY build prop edits, any changes to the rom and have EVERYTHING running on my mypho.. (even videocam records for me on 3rd part app and mapping) PM me if you need links to downloads and if im in good coverage i can let you pull from my drop box privately if needed.. GOOD LUCK

Hi, i did try do how this topic say, but i canĀ“t see any files still..

Hide-it-pro pictures disappeared!!

Hey guys, searched around and couldn't find an exact answer on this.
Today I was adding a video to the Hide-It-Pro app and after it completed all of my pictures within the app have disappeared! I am not real happy about this. I searched the suggested locations on the phone and unhide files and folders... but nothing was found. I also downloaded the program suggested by the app manufacturer but it does not recognize my phone. How can I get these photos back?
I have a stock, non-rooted Galaxy Note 2 running the most current version of android, 4.4.2 I think....
And if the file containing those photos were somehow deleted, is there any way of recovering it?
Please help and thanks in advance!!

Same thing happened to me. Tried to hide a video agian and agian. Finally the video dissappears from the gallery but is nowhere to be found. Tried looking in. Fr folder, and recovery software but nothing at all. It really sucks. I know it ia my fault because i did not pay attention to the Kit-Kat update and that i think is the cause.

Is my storage completely broken?

Hello there.
My OnePlus 5T has got an issue today that is driving me crazy. Its storage is acting up in stupid ways.
I can browse its storage through the stock file manager and SD Maid without too many issues. However, everything else cannot access it, so it becomes impossible to save/download anything, upload anything, or even read anything (like these gallery pickers on social apps). Even the Play Store cannot update an app. I can't take screenshots either.
That OnePlus 5T is two years old and a half. I've tried removing a lot of files through SD Maid and nothing helps solving that issue. Rebooting my phone doesn't change anything either. Permissions are all good as well.
I haven't rooted my phone, however the bootloader is open.
Thanks for checking in.
It might be your File Explorer/Manager not showing the file i have that issue with Files by Google it doesn't show .img files on my sdcard and internal memory

As I pointed out in the first post, absolutely nothing shows up in Files by Google, stock Gallery app, or even Discord or Telegram. The Play Store cannot download anything, same for Google Chrome and any other apps. Somehow only the stock file explorer and SD Maid can manipulate storage without issues.
At random reboots I face the same issues too. Not sure why.

This was the first thing I checked and everything was okay. Double checked just in case and storage permissions are still granted.

Unfortunately no. I am using a Moto Z play rom and sadly rom development for my device is meager due to the unpopularity of the device. The storage permissions have been granted by me too but yet some apps completely hang and restart when I try to download in them. Browsers and all are working fine. Even download manager. It is stuffs like Edxposed which freezes when I click on download on a particular module. Same thing happens to certain other apps like image downloading apps. Storage permissions are intact. I'm on Lineage OS 16.
Another concerning issue is sometime both the inbuilt gallery app and Quickpic completely fail to recognize any images or videos. I did a clean install of the ROM too.
I can't take screenshots too (at times). I can download and upload anything with the help of solid explorer or es file manager. Camera app sometimes cannot save an image to its own storage even though permissions are intact.
Trying to download or update anything makes the Play store crash. Sometimes it updates, mostly it crashes. Things get way annoying when I'm urgently trying to download an app and play store just rage quits on me.
