[Q] Manual PRL Update??? - Sprint LG G3

For me, up in New Hampshire my home Sprint service is spotty. I roam quite often. Because I use my phone for business I always manually push my PRL's to a corporate one so I have 3g and even sometime 4g roaming. (Yes I swear I sometimes get 4g roaming). With my old note 3 there was shortcut that could be "made" to do it from the phone. On my Evo 4g LTE I had to modify the build.prop to open up a hidden menu in EPST for a dialer code(ro.build.type user to ro.build.type dev) that allowed the old ##778# to get into a menu that allowed a PRL push from the device. I have tried QPST workshop and another workshop but the phone rejects the PRL push and disconnects.
I see that our G3's have the same line in the build.prop but if I change it I get a soft brick boot loop. Since we are kinda stuck waiting for a bootloader unlock maybe somebody that knows what they are doing can find a Hidden menu or something to allow a manual PRL update??? I'd be happy to pay for a cup or 2 of joe for the work. :good:
Thank you,

I posted how I figured out how to push a PRL a while back. Let me see if I can find it. It's in this forum somewhere.

This is what I followed to push a new PRL. You Have to have the g3 drivers, but it's easy too use that flash tool to push a new PRL.
Follow it exactly, except for the drivers, you Have to use the g3 drivers

Well that worked flawlessly!!! Thank you!!!
I do hope there will be a way to not need a computer to push it. Sprint likes to push PRLs without your knowledge all the time.:good:
But for now this works awesome.

This didn't work for me. I already had my MSL. When I try to read my SPC, I get "SPC Error?" When I try to send the SPC(MSL), I get "SPC failed, please wait to continue". So i try to just manually fill in all the info and select my desired PRL, but I a .NET framework error when using the LG method. Any insight?

Not sure. Do you have all the .net framework packages installed and up to date on your computer? I used to get that type of error when I didn't have .net framework 4 installed, but that has been years lol

actually you are wrong... the law states that you can not change the esn of a phone period...
In an Order, the commission adopted a rule (22.919) requiring that all cellular telephones for which type acceptance is sought after January 1, 1995, must be designed such that the factory-set ESN can not be reprogrammed. At the same time, the commission stated that it considers any knowing use of cellular telephone with an altered ESN to be a violation of the Communications Act (Section 301) and alteration of the ESN in a cellular telephone to be assisting in such violation. The Wireless Telephone Protection Act (Public Law 105-172) was signed into law on April 24, 1998, expanding the prior law to criminalize the use, possession, manufacture or sale of cloning hardware or software.
The cellular equipment manufacturing industry has deployed authentication systems that have proven to be a very effective countermeasure to cloning. Authentication supplements the use of the ESN and MIN with a changing encrypted code that can not be obtained by off-the-air monitoring.

How do I backup all of my flashed Boost mobile settings?
You folks seem to be a very knowledgable crowd, perhaps you can help me with this.
I just purchased an Evo 3d and had it flashed over to boost at my local boost store. Upon picking it up from them he went over a few things, most of which made perfect sense like not updating certain things because it will set me back to sprint but the one thing that did not is he said no hard resets. Problem being most if not every custom rom either automatically or advise you to do a factory reset from custom recovery. How am I supposed to flash my precious cyanogenmod with that hanging over my head lol? So I've been trying to learn how to flash using cdma workshop and qpst so that I can copy/backup all of the already flashed Boost info so that if things go wrong Im good. Also I hear some of the non-SENS based roms require little workarounds to keep data and mms going which also would probably require a copy of the Boost flash info. Things like the AAA shared secret and HA secret etc.
Any insight to this problem would be most appreciated!

Hard reset and factory reset are different. The factory reset option won't interfere with your boost service....After you flash a new rom all you'll need to do (w/every flash) is ##data# go to advanced scroll to mms url and change it to http://mm.myboostmobile.com or if you're not on a sense rom I think you can go to messages- settings-MMS-connection settings and change the MMSC field to http://mm.myboostmobile.com
That should be it...remember boost uses sprint's network so there is little to worry about as far as compatability.
Lastly to backup your boost configuration..get QPST and use that to read your phones current configuration (network Info) and then save it with qpst and you should be fine.

Mr. louforgiveno: First off thank you for the quick and diligent reply. Pertaining to backup and restore using QPST; should my phone loose its boost flash I would press "Load from File", select the previously saved QPST data file and then press "Write to Phone" and it will restore me to boost mobile settings?
I flash/wipe anything I want from recovery and I have a boosted 3d. I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a qpst backup but have never had anything happen to my boost service from flashing/wiping. I use apn backup n restore to restore boost mms settings after a flash, easy as cake. Ics u can't restore apn involves alil more work prior to flashing I believe. As far as the factory reset within the rom, idk, haven't come across the need to use it...

Lost flash after updating to 2.17 w/o HBOOT 1.50
So it finally happened, I lost my flash. Everything was going fine, even downgraded to 1.4 hboot using recent XDA method, but after that I saw an updated firmware without the 1.5 hboot update by xHausx and used it thinking it would be fine since all the other PG86IMG and RUU's have flashed perfect.
As I posted earlier, I backed up and everything with qpst and CDMA-WS but after restoring from backup it looked like it put everything back (it even said BOOST at the top) but I was wrong. When ever I try to dial out it tells me my account cannot be validated and of course I have no 3g either due to lack of service.
I've looked over every setting using every # code and I cant seem to find anything wrong with the configurations and APN restore does nothing.
I was very paranoid about modding a flashed phone at first so I was very thorough, besides backups I also took many notes on the info the # codes and qpst/cdmaWS provided before making any changes at all.
Which makes me ask if the fact that QPST keeps changing the ESN is creating and issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

First I got "account cannot be authorized" but I zero out the esn and put it back to what it was and I got voice and text then got onto wifi and updated both profile and prl and then bam 3g came back. Where did that joker come from?
Here is a thread I started and had closed about ESN: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1685610
That explains it enough. Flashing to another carrier does not change the ESN. Boost, Cricket, MetroPCS allow non-carrier ESN's on their network, that's why flashing is allowed. You can technically flash a phone to Virgin Mobile, but, here is where the problem is: Virgin Mobile does not allow non-Virgin Mobile ESN's on their network.
Did that idiot get banned?

E3d roaming everywhere....HELP

I had read a post on using qpst to change the default volume limit for my headset and tried this method.....
Well as it turns out, after applying this method, I wrote the values to the phone, phone restarted, and can not read/write from phone using qpst after writing. In fact it did not change anything. Also I can only roam now. Even with using different prl's and I switched my phone to "sprintonly"option in roaming options in the settings. Nothing. I have my msl, and epst works. But no qpst...... Has anyone else had this problem, if so any solution?
Stock rooted deodexed ROM.
Rooted using the fraking awesome revolutionary method.
1.40 bootloader
Radio 1.06
I've got a fix for you!
I think I know what is happening.
1. Open settings.
2. Tap Wireless & Networks
3. Scroll to Mobile networks
4. Tap Roaming.
5. A window will pop up. Select "Sprint only".
Hope this helps!

Not sure what but it seems like you may have screwed something up with qpst. I'd recommend making a nandroid. Then run an ruu that won't update your hboot. Then see if you still have your current issues.

[Q] 3g problem for my htc evo v 4g/3d

Hello. Im having problems with my Evo. 3g data isnt working. virgin mobile refused to help me because the guy i was talking to is either untrained or an idiot. but anyways i just activated my phone again after it was cancelled. i didnt have it activated for over 5 months or so so it got cancelled and i was provided a new number. before i activated it on virgin mobile again i was thinking of going to metro pcs for their 40 dollar everything plan. but didnt because i was unsure. I did change settings in qpst to match the settings of metro pcs phone settings/data settings and when i changed my mind i tried to flash it back to virgin mobile i messed up a lil and had to do the ##786#, menu, reset thing, to get my virgin mobile original settings back, so now the phone is activated but data is messed up. it dosent load pages or work period. the 3g arrows flash every once in a while but then stop. and i am on meanrom v4.5. just flashed back from jellybean the liquidsmooth rom. i am not quite sure what the problem is but i think the data settings are incorrect. when i go into ##data# settings in data profile it shows ""[email protected] . it seems everything else is mostly correct as far as i know. so if anyone can help me at all with data settings or anything else i would be very appreciated.and yes i tried updating profile/prl stuff and nothing. but thank you for any help at all.
Do a google search for flashing phones to virgin mobile. Does not really matter what phone the flash instructions are for as long as it is an android phone. Then compare the settings to the ones you have on your phone and make any changes needed.
Oh and next time before you change anything with qpst make a backup. With qpst you can read all the info from your phone then back it up tk your pc. Then if you ever need to go back you just open the saved settings and flash them over.

Ya I did that and all of the posts I found have outdated information. I called virgin and they told me to wait 24 hours and the problem will be fixed and that my programming information was correct. I'm not sure if they were telling me the truth or not but I had this problem before and switching to profile 1 fixed everything. This time its not working because profile 0 and profile 1 are exactly the same. I don't know what to do at this point. I was hoping someone with an EVO 3d or EVO V 4g working on virgin mobile could connect to qpst and give me pictures of their exact settings minus their account information and esn/meid numbers whited out. Since VM won't help me the only thing I can do now is ask for help from someone else.
seems like my 3g is working now. i flashed back to liquid smooth kit kat. wierd because i have used meanrom before on my account. so i guess it was meanrom messing things up. thanks tho.

[GUIDE] Sprint LG G3 Hotspot [New Method!]

Here is a method I discovered through lots of trial and effort, soft bricking my device at least five times before I found success.
Yes I was desperate.
*Disclaimer: Do not do this if you are not comfortable with flashing your phone. You assume the risk.
** Special thanks to justinswidebody for providing the Services.odex file
Things you need to know.
A. Backup EVERYTHING, as Internal Storage will be wiped out in this process
B. You will need your MSL code to perform an RTN reset (You'll need this for provisioning apps as well as tether accessibility)
1. [ LINK ] Use this Restore thread and download all the links to the dll, flash tool, tot file and phone drivers. Use this restore thread to restore your phone back to FACTORY, WITHOUT PROVISION. (A little tip I discovered, is when flash tool says waiting for connection, do not unplug. Instead in device manager under modem, right click the LG modem and select disable, then enable and device should start flashing)
2. [ LINK ] Download Stump root 1.0.1 (works great for me) to root your device
3. [ LINK ] Download the Services.odex file to your device
4. Install your root browser of your choice (I use ES FILE EXPLORER)
5. Change permissions of SYSTEM to R/W
6. Move the Services.odex file to /SYSTEM folder in root folder of the device /
7. Change permissions of Services.odex to RW- R-- R--
_____Read___Write
Owner_[X]_____[X]
Group _[X]
Other__[X]
8. Copy and paste Services.odex to /Framework folder, and overwrite the existing file. Your phone should soft reboot now.
9. Notice how you no longer have carrier provision, including option for tether under Settings/Connectivity/More. Use the ##RTN# code in the dialer, and choose reset. Here you will use your MSL code to proceed.
10. Your phone will now reset, and provision, restoring the carrier bloat and options for tethering. Now that this is down, the modded Services.odex is locked in. My experience is that, changing this file after provisionining results in a boot loop, everytime.
11. Now configure your Tether settings in Setting/Connectivity/More
12. [ LINK ] download jtether app to turn on hotspot and enjoy!
Nice work! Thanks.
it might be easier to buy or obtain https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter&hl=en ?
I tried the other WiFi hotspot and couldn't get it to work properly, after it installed the binaries, it caused LTE connecting to keep resetting, but this one you link to may work
But glad someone tried it and and had success as well !

Yes I use the same app, it is important to use "2 - Android Version 4.2 or Higher" option under "method". Other then that works like a charm.
Not sure why everyone is trying so desperately to get the stock tethering working when apps work fine?
Wifi Hotspot
Just loaded the wifi app and it's working just fine for now.
I just bought the app, did the #2 setting there & my Nexus 5 isn't seeing it. Was wondering, you guys literally using a tether, like for a laptop, or us this a hot spot to & I'm just not setting it up right. I gave it SU permission, just can't see it.

See if it's an ad-hoc network that it's broadcasting. That's really the problem with all the other apps is if it uses the ad-hoc function that phones are going to see. Your computer would be able to see it though.
Found this through the apps settings, & followed the top one, rebooted & it is working now. I didn't really play with settings, but I must have checked or unchecked something but anyway,

Working for me so far. I got a call while on it, the tether dropped and phone rang. After call tether re connected and all was good.
On the tether app, will work on 3g and LTE without resetting phone or data?
Anyone else noticing phone getting pretty warm, noticeably so, when using the app. Could be normal I'm not sure. And, I'm not sure if its the app or the phone, but this is the strongest hot spot I've ever used. Runs Netflix flawlessly. All other devices & hot spot would work, but this thing is like wifi at home. Well worth the $2.50 I paid for sure!

I seem to remember some chatter back on the G2 forums, about people getting service-cancellations when using these 3rd-party tethering apps, as Sprint can somehow detect them being used; the exploit to get the built-in tethering working didn't result in any bother from Sprint. I'm curious to see how it turns out here, or if it would depend on how many GB you end up using via tether.
I found it interesting when I switched over to the new $100 Family plan it automatically added Hotspot to the account and is not showing an extra charge. I'm assuming they don't mind if I tether over the 20GB +2GB per line as it would put more money in their pocket.

Yup, I can confirm this. They canceled my line for unauthorized tethering and were able to verify the use of Foxfi on that phone. Since then, I religiously only use the built-in tethering hack (where available [emoji6]) and haven't had a problem since. But, as always, YMMV.

They did state they could have hit me with it, but were "kind" enough to waive it because of my tenure. So no, I wasn't.

That's what I was thinking. It's tempting to try this app but I don't want to lose my line. Wish they would just give a warning first.
So you came back later / signed up fresh?

Actually, they did send a warning letter stating that unauthorized tethering was a violation of TOS & if it continued my line would be terminated. At that point, I began to use Foxfi very sparingly & would uninstall it anytime I wasn't using it. I thought I might be able to do that as a workaround, but obviously that didn't work & they sent me another letter a month or two later telling me that line would be canceled. I had four other lines & that one wasn't completely necessary, so I wasn't too worried about losing it.

Ah thanks for the clarification. It is good to know a warning probably would be issued before cancellation. Do you know how much GB you were originally hotspotting? I rarely need it, probably would do more than 1GB a month, but I can see their concern on people sucking down multiple gigs without paying the extra fee.

So I did a restore using the LG tool and I am missing the wifi calling app. I can't seem to get it at all from any source, I've read some discussions about it but haven't gotten anywhere with it.
Anyone have some advice ? Ive tried all the ## diag numbers and all of that to try to get the sprint software to load but it doesn't load the WIFI calling app or any other sprint apps.
Can someone maybe provide me with the APK ?
Hopefully this helps!

I am not sure how to make this stuff active..I've tried every procedure possible on this to get it enabled. ##RTN# and nothing no Sprint boot or shutdown or Sprint apps including the wifi calling.
I'm not sure if it's a blessing or now I can't use any of those features anymore.

Thanks for this, made no difference though it appears something has to be triggered or activated on my device for it to work.

Well damn! Hopefully someone else can help you
I've used the tool 5 times to get back to stock (things I've tried that don't work, never with the build prop except the multi window) and not once has all the apps installed. I.e. wifi calling. You must know your msl. Once you know that you're golden. Restore back to stock. Don't bother with downloading or really setting up anything. Go to phone, dial ##rtn#. Option 2 i believe, put in your msl and bingo. It will restart have you sign in again and all that jazz and whalla. Wifi calling and all the other Sprint bs is back. Have any questions please ask.

No. After RTN reset re-root with Stump.
