[Q] Monster M7: Battery failing already? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Howdy, y'all; trying to find information about my Monster M7 tablet.
I bought it last December when Walmart offered it for $100. Sounded like a good deal, considering the brand.
Like many others who bought one, my M7 has been problematic. After installing the latest firmware update from Monster (at the mymonstertablet.com/faq page), I'm now able to use all 16GB of installed memory (less that required by the O/S). OK; some progress.
After having purchased a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (8" screen; I like it) lately for about the same price as the M7, I'll only use the M7 as a Chromecast controller, an OBD-II code reader, and to test EPUB docs that I develop. And maybe to test coupla apps before I completely forget how to build Java code.
However, until I solve the battery problem, it's mostly unusable. Even though the battery indicator shows fully charged, the M7 boots but only runs for coupla minutes before it quits. It runs correctly if a power adapter is connected to the microUSB socket.
I've read about /data/system/batterystats.bin, but this post indicates that deleting the file won't have the effect that some Android users think:
http://www.xda-developers.com/androi...-battery-life/
Is there something else that I can do about the short life of the battery? I've had this M7 for less than a year.
Thanks much.

Sony tablet S WILL be getting ics :D

http://www.sony.co.uk/discussions/thread/143742?tstart=0
Just read this over on the official forums. Hopefully the time frame will be up soon
Nicely! Well spotted.
That's good news ^^
it is wonderful news but if they will fix wifi problem which didint fix with last update 3,2,1(release2) and i wait root access
I so love the feel of the tablet s!
Pity I rushed in and went for a xoom... :/
great~may ics will come soon
that is truly great news
Don't know why people are excited about Android 4.0, just because it is a newer version so it would be better. Is SONY known to be a better software company?
SONY Tablet S has very short battery life compared to iPAD, don't shut-off whatever is running in the background that eating up the batteries. I can leave my iPAD 64G for 2 months and power it up and it still have more than half the battery life. I leaved the Tablet S in my brief case for a day or two, it emitted a funny beeping sound. I now figure it out it is because the batteries run down below 10% and that is a warning sound.
Tablet S's charger is from stone-age. You need to carry a AC cable and this little brick. I didn't want to carry the heavy weight and bought an extra one and that cost $39.95 plus 8.5% CA sales tax. But it didn't really solve my problem because I need 4 of them. But charger connector is so unique that there is no substitute and its voltage is not standard so I can't just cut the wire and splice it to an USB cable. Samsung Tablet also has its own charger but it is small (but expensive). But you can use non-Samsung charger if you don't mind it took twice or more as long to charge it (I leave it overnight with an iPad charger). On the other hand, iPAD uses USB charger. Through the years I accumulate enough of those that I never have to carry the charger (small) around except one iPhone cable. I didn't like Apple's fascism on users so I bought the SONY to help out the industry but it is bitter-sweet experience. SONY has better camera and better feel on the hands. However, when it plays HD .wmv files the sound disappear because the hardware is not fast enough in spite it is dual-core at 1Ghz (the video player is a paid commercial version). iPAD2 beats it hands down but you need iTunes to get anything over to iPADs or iPhones that really is a pain at the neck.
I don't care any fancy name Sandwiches or Ice Cream or Android 4. I just want it to run smoothly, not to sleep on me or re-boot at times by itself. Give me a real sleep software that it will keep the battery standby longer because I don't like to wait for couple minutes every time I need to use it. In other words one of the beauty of Tablets over notebooks is instant ON.
I hope someone will answer my post and tell me what I did wrong with my SONY so it got so short operation life (4 hours or so) and short standby battery life (day and half). I don't think I got a defective machine. If that was the case, I would be very disappointed with SONY's quality control. Mine is a 32G version. BTW, the little leather case accessory for this baby is $99.99 plus 8.5% and it is no more than just a bag.
It just shows me SONY is ARROGANT and Apple is FASCIST. Samsung is trying to figure out which side to lean. I just wonder whether Google + Motorola will give use a better true U.S. machine(s).

Ignoring the rant, the problem with standby usage of only a couple of days is due to your tablet not going to sleep (have a look in the battery usage graph). I had this and fixed it with a factory reset. Somewhere along the line something in an upgrade or similar stopped it sleeping. Factory reset has fixed it all for me.

WHAAAAAAAAAAA....
That being said.... My tablet rocks! I am no fan of the ipad that my brother and best friend own and I have no idea how you could go a couple of days without using it... I actually like the power port since I have had two phones with the micro usb where the port went bad... This newly designed power port allows you to simply place in the cradle rather than struggling to force the thing in the stand had it come with a standard port.

Can't wait for ICS to get here.
I know there is this hype around the S1 getting ICS, but how will it improve performance and functionality?

Power port has ups & downs. It's a SONY-only cable, which sucks, but it's REALLY comfortable in using it. Better then USB if you ask me, although something universal was good too.
That aside, I really hope ICS will allow the S1 for micro-USB charging, so I can use my Duracell USB charger.
Furthermore, I agree that ICS has no REAL benefits on tablets, but it's always nice to have, no?
you're forgetting something.
a.) under the hood improvements
b.) pretty soon all droid tablet app devs will be targeting ICS. Honeycomb is a dead platform + it has tiny market share.
Not sure how reputable this site is but according to their speculation it is stating a release date by February 2012. Just thought I would share...

If its on Facebook then it must be true lol. I tried looking for their fan page but there is a few of them.
I read somewhere that ICS doesn't partition the "internal" memory space for apps and OS as honeycomb currently does, so this might release some space for those with the 16Gb version of tablets.
Anyone else heard this? If true, I'm sure it'll be good news for a lot of users.

Just go this phone today! Any recommendations you want to share?

Hi!
Well, first the phone is not for myself but I will send it to my mom as her nokia died and I wanted a better phone with a bigger screen.
I almost went with a LG L9 4.5" but the bigger internal memory, faster CPU and better camera features on the Amaze made me change my mind.
So, I was thinking maybe I need to root it to remove anything that slows it down but in reality, mom is not a power user. I will just have her do MMS now so maybe is not worth spending time figuring out a new system (I come from Samsung, Asus Prime, Xperia) for a user that really is not going to notice any lag etc.
I got it with a 5 pin cable which seems NOT to be the right one and charges slow so one thing I am getting is an OEM 12 pin for it unless I am not right about this.
So anything you like to share, I am happy to read about.
Thanks!

Yes the 12 pin is better, but unless you've got the factory charger, go for a quality higher amperage one like the generic dual purpose type that can be used with a tablet. These beasts draw a lot of current, so much so that when plugged-in and used with a lesser charger, it will still be draining its battery.
Even though it's for your mom I'd still root it and install Titanium Backup. Then I'd remove the T-Mobile and HTC bloat, some of which never worked, or no longer works. Then after removing the cruft, I'd install every available update then integrate them into '/system/app' with TiBu. Finally, I'd unroot and relock it, to avoid the late night service calls she'd give you if she accidentally messed with something she shouldn't have. Then you'll be good to go.
I did this very same procedure when I hooked my mom and stepdad up with smartphones last year. They both were new to these devices. They previously owned moto RAZRs. They live outside of Memphis and I live in Miami. The one thing I feared in getting them Androids vs iPhones were the possible late night tech calls from them. So I did for them exactly what I told you and they've been happy owners ever since.
I hope this helps.
Ciao
That sounds like a good plan.
Any specific charger you recommend or anything listed for HTC tablets etc should do the trick from ebay?
Looks like THIS should work.

It should work. I bought my amaze off Craig's list after I broke my HD2. I got it relatively cheap ($100), but it had no charger or data cable. I thought no big deal, I'll just use the HD2's. Thats when I discovered how much this juice uses. The HD2 charger just wasn't up to the task. I kept getting warnings about the current draw being too much and the device was unable to charge.
I wanted to resolve that right away. So I went to Best Buy and overpaid for a generic one with the highest amperage output they had. It's rated at 2.4 amps, I think my old one was rated at 0.8. You don't have to worry about too much amperage because of the regulator in the phone. Plus by getting the one I did, I figured I'd be equipped for any type of device I might throw at it in the future. That in combination with the 12 pin cable has worked for me. Now I can do even the most intensive task while plugged in and it never gives me a warning anymore about my device being unable to charge. I hope this helps, good luck!
The charger I got is rated like the original 5v 1Amp but the cable is surely not doing the job. Still I will just get that charger and call it a day.
Thanks amigo!

Cubot Max

I have just bought a Cubot Max via Amazon at a VERY attractive price although it won't be delivered until tomorrow. I was attracted by its price and very good specification which includes dual sim, dedicated sd card and a removeable battery of 4100 mAH. Battery capacity is not quite as good as my current phone at 5100 mAH (but non-removeable) but that capacity should be more than sufficent. It is running Marshmallow which is fine.
I plan to install TWRP and Magisk which will automatically provide root and give access to Xposed.
I know it has an MTK chip, which a lot of people sneer at, but I've had a phone with an MTK chip before and they seem to be very 'modification friendly' e.g they seem, often, to come with unlocked bootloaders.
I have seen many good reviews but what puzzles me is the lack of internet presence. There seems to be little information about it although I have seen just one version of TWRP available for it. I'm surprised that it isn't more popular than my searches have revealed.
Are there any people out there who have this phone?
It does seem that, of the people who frequent XDA, few have the Cubot Max.
I've had mine now for about two weeks. I paid £85 for it, new, and for that money it's a bargain but not without its disadvantages. One of the things that attracted me was the replaceable 4100 mAh battery. I was thinking of buying a spare battery that I could charge outside of the phone and just swap batteries when the current one runs out. The snag is that I haven't been able to find a charger to suit. All of the universal chargers that I have seen take a battery of maximum length 90mm whereas this one is 105mm.
I joined the Cubot forum to ask about that but although I have registered it has to be approved by a moderator which hasn't happened yet. I emailed a forum moderator to ask what was happening - no response. I emailed Cubot directly - no response. It does seem that customer support is non-existant.
Other points are that the GPS is accurate, telephone radio is good, sound quality for telephone calls is good and, of course, it has dual sims and a dedicated SD Card.
I was considering unlocking the bootloader and installing TWRP but I got as far as a screen which asked me to confirm that I wanted to unlock the bootloader by pressing Volume Up or cancelling by pressing Volume Down. Neither key did anything and I tried more than once so I've postponed that for the time being.
If anyone can suggest a charger for a 70 x 105 mm battery I'd be grateful. It does seem pointless providing spare batteries if they can't be charged outside the phone.

Phone finally died? Suggestions for replacement

Battery (current and new ones) last minutes to an hour. Phone turns off or reboots with 50-100% charge. Phone no longer powers on with fully charged batteries.
So, just looking for any suggestion on a sub $50 phone that uses it's Mini-sim, has great battery life and performs normal features (phone/text/browsing) without lag. Not looking to custom rom/modify this one xD. Appreciate any replies! Also I'm using AT&T prepaid service (it's way cheaper than their contracts).
EDIT: Ended up getting LG Phoenix 3. Weird shape and power button, couldn't tell from box. Just needed a cheap android. Hope it doesn't suck.
I would've gone with another Samsung, like the s4 or s5. LG phones are pretty good though.
I went with a $50 LG Phoenix 3 from walmart... performs adequately but haven't found how to root it yet :"( $30/mo +tax unlimited everything (haven't noticed network slowdown after data cap from 4g)
Some phones that come from Wal-Mart aren't rootable like the Samsung galaxy J3 luna pro. Yours might be one of the unrootable ones.

How many of us are there?

My manta refuses to die.
It falls over every now and again and it does cash freeze occasionally. (I then just grab the latest stable stripped down ROM and carry on)
Its my bedroom streamer and it serves that purpose brilliantly.
How many active Manta are left in the wild?
Mines still ticking along ok. I'm running pure nexus 7.1 with a replaced the battery. It's a little slow sometimes opening apps but does everything I need it to. If the old boy holds out I'll keep using it for at least the next two or three years.
I still have mine, but I barely use it. I've been thinking of putting ubuntu on it so I can get some usage out of it.
I have mine still running. Battery lasts for minutes if not plugged in so it's a pretty stationary device for watching videos. 70% Netflix, 25% youtube and maybe 5% light web browsing. Happy it's still ticking along but don't use it for intense tasks anymore.
I just got mine yesterday! Mint condition: no yellowing, no dead pixels, no scratches (well, a minor one on the back), charges via USB no problem. It has Android 5.1.1. Should I use a custom ROM?
Wow your a late to the party! 5.1.1? It's been that long since I used 5.1.1 that I have forgotten what it runs like but I would definitely try a ROM, what have you got to lose as you can always flash back to lollipop.
Oh and getting back to the theme of the thread yes I still use my N10 but I wish I had bought a pogo charger back in 2013. The charge times for the device is painful.
Still up and running on the unofficial Lineage 14.1. Mostly I use it for reading pdf roleplaying game rulebooks. Although a paper book is actually better and faster...
I still use mine. It has no indication of wear and tear. Just the normal feeling of getting old. I'm about to replace it with a Lenovo Tab 4 10. I love the N10 but I'm ready to have a smoother tablet experience
I figured I'd chime in. I play Summoners War on mine but it doesn't last an hour. I keep meaning to get a new battery hoping it'll help. Also the MicroUSB port doesn't do data anymore but still charges. I blame that on the magnetic charger I've had installed on it for a long time now. It sucks though because I'm deathly afraid of soft bricking it at this point with no point of return haha...
Mine is still going pretty strong, running 7.1.1. I'm mostly using it for reading O'Reilly Safari Books online, recipes while cooking, and the like. Media streaming is mostly relegated to the Chromecasts now.
I've said before and I still believe it: I think the Nexus 10 is one of the best pieces of technology I've ever bought.

Are you sure the problem is the MicroUSB port? When I received my used Nexus 10, USB worked to connect it with my PC, but within a day the PC stopped acknowledging the existence of the Nexus 10. So, I researched on the Internet and found that this happens if you disconnect the Nexus 10 without doing Windows' "Safely Removing Hardware and Eject Media". One guy RMA'ed his and got a replacement, and it worked briefly until the same thing happened, LOL. The solution is to remove the drivers from Windows and let them reinstall. Or try on another PC. Since I wasn't sure exactly which drivers to remove and my other PC has wonky USB ports, I haven't fixed the problem yet. Instead, I am using Wi-Fi and Windows Sharing to share a directory from my PC to the Nexus 10.
I'm on lineageos 13, nexus 10 cpu is really slow compared to new cpus, but display is still superb, I'm still searching for new roms for nexus 10, android 9 would be amazing. But I'm not using tablet as extensively as few years before, I have some plans to sell my nexus 10.

That's very interesting. I'll have to try that one of these days!
Mine is good almost as new and I'm still using it. I'm running Pie on it and is doing as well as the ROM allows it as it has several issues still. But the tablet keeps amazing and I would love if someone could port the Google Home Hub rom into it if this is kind of possible.
There are some roms of android 9. Its called LineageOs.
Mine nexus 10 runs still pretty well, even the battery. I put PhoenixOS on it soe i can have a Desktop environment.
Literally just picked on up on EBay to use with a bluetooth keyboard for a mobile workstation when I don't feel like bringing one of my laptops. Now to root and ROM...
Still using mine.. still works perfect.. although slow with pie but i can't complain it has to be what 6-7 years old now?
Just joining everyone
I've wanted one of these since they came out and just picked up a "Manufacturer Refurbished" one from eBay, about to put LineageOS on it (Unless someone has a better OS suggestion), wish me luck!
Still running, it is a dedicated YouTube machine on my workbench, and stays plugged in, but still going strong.
Me too! me too!!
My Manta is like new! I've only done very little mileage to it and it's like new. I'm running 7.1.1 but I hate the camera not working so I'll just go back to stock I guess..
