Hey guys since my Samsung galaxy player 5.0 INTL has been stolen. I was wondering if there is any galaxy player 5.8 development that anyone has heard of. Since I'm getting one I want to be able to put custom recoveries and roms to make it seem like my old one. Thanks if you respond to this question. R.I.P galaxy player 5.0 INTL.

Haven't seen any around. TaoBao (China's equivalent of eBay) sells all kinds of rarities yet they don't even have a second-hand 5.8.
I guess for the price of a 5.8 you can get some decent phones that's >4.5", though.
EDIT: I got my second-hand Mega 6.3 yesterday for ~$130, so if you're just looking for sth with a large screen, you know what I mean. Or grab an Xperia Z Ultra instead.

Exactly. I wouldn't recommend getting a Galaxy Player 5.8, mostly because it was an only-Korea release, therefore, there's near zero development. Also, I think its a little too big for my liking, but that's just me. You get a lot of better phones (with better development and specs.) for the same price (I'm guessing its around $400 new). You can use those without a SIM Card.
But if you're keen on getting one, AFAIK there is root available, but no custom recoveries or ROMs. But since its running 4.0 ICS, I'm guessing you can stick with it for a while.
Thank you for that but I just wish there was development over it. Darn

Now that there is confirmed news about the LG Nexus [Source], are you guys considering moving from the SIII to the Nexus ??
Don't get me wrong, the SIII is an awesome piece of hardware, but the lack of documentation from the Samsung Exynos team is a well known issue. That, to me, is the most important reason anyone would wanna move to the Nexus.
But I want to hear more opinions as to the advantages as well as disadvantages of the Nexus vs. the SIII.
no...
gonna shift to S4 when it comes......

I don't actually think theirs anything wrong with LG, of course I'd choose Samsung over them any day of the week, but if Samsung were yet to come onto the smartphone market, and LG had already made an appearance, I wouldn't be hesitate to buy an LG, providing specs etc were all up to date and the phone isn't just a single core 800mhz A5 snapdragon lol not suggesting snapdragon are bad processors....I was referring to the old A5 architecture

I just wanted to say something similar - of course it will just be outsourced to some company in Asia and will not be very competitively priced (unless you have an internal deal or something) since Google does not want to alienate any manufacturer!
That being said the openness is an interesting advantage (after the problems that I had with my S3 - which I discovered it was a patched version instead of a real IMEI unlock as I thought when I bought it).
LG left a sour taste in my mouth a few years back so I don't think I'm jumping ship, plus the specs leaked so far aren't too impressive.
However that new HTC with the 5inch 1080 screen has me interested...

... that was only released in Korea? Well.. it seems it has morphed into something else and in that form is going to be released in Europe!
http://www.sammobile.com/2013/01/18/exclusive-samsung-to-announce-5-8-android-smartphone/
Do i care about it? If it has the same specs as the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.8 i don't, because i think Samsung charges too much for their underpowered players. My mind is set on the Huawei Ascend Mate 6.1' Phonblet that will be released soon with a HD screen, 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and an awesome 4000MAh battery. Check the specs: http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwi...eeId=3745&pinfoId=3520&directoryId=6001&tab=0
Hyawai shoul be nice if it has reason price. But i am not satisfy with hyawai.. I have hyawai tablet for 1.5 year and it still have android 2.2,hyawai does not care about it users.

Agree with the price and performance thing you mentioned there. But the 5.8 does have an Enoxys ( <- Wrong spelling I know ) 4 and 1GB of RAM which is significantly better than the 5.0 ect. Although this device costs like £320 for the 32GB model so it's not worth buying. I'm waiting for Nvidia's Project Shield as that just looks awesome.

Agreed. Project Shield is definitely something i want to get. Hopefully the price for it isnt gonna be outrageous like the ASUS Transformer series tablets I hope though that Samsung would release the Galaxy Player 5.8 in the U.S. It would hopefully get people to switch over to android instead of CrApple's iSheep devices

I also have a Huawei tablet and there are official firmwares for it with Android 3 and ICS, so i think their support is very reasonable, which i can't say about my Galaxy Player.
I had iPhone 3G as my first phone, following by 4s then i switched to Galaxy s3 in April 2013. I've learned a lot, i've flashed many custom roms, kernel etc.
After seeing Samsung delaying updates and transporting regional lock along with kitkat update are the reason that i come to decision that i will sell my galaxy s3 for Nexus 4 (cant afford n5 yet).
I need your help guys
How good is the battery on nexus 4 compared to galaxy s3?
Idc about storage
This is a q&a thread, so it also belongs there. But to answer your question. Comparing stock of both devices, the s3 definitely wins. Samsung is good at creating a good battery life, even with touchwiz
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You endured once in a blue moon updates in iOS, but you can't in android, which there is an update almost every week?
Sent from my GT-I9300
S3 wins hands down. Tho I would recommend getting sony because don't delay the update
I disagree.
Bells and whistles like smart stay that doesn't even work properly after the jellybean update or a maybe slightly better camera (though I don't find much difference) doesn't outweight not having proper multitask. Also, neither touchwiz nor aosp have the nexus smoothness. Even my dad's former galaxy nexus feels slightly better than my s3.
If you can live with not having an sdcard or a removable battery, I'd say the n4 provides a better user experience (did try it for about a month). The only reason I'm not getting the n4 is because I'm waiting out the n5.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
This thread would be best off in the Nexus 4 section, most users who browse the S3 forums still have and use the S3.

This is a joke, right? S3 is in overall better then the nexus 4. S3 will get 4.4. Regional lock can be removed. Also SD-Card and removable battery is essential for a phone in my opinion. (Plus, the N4 is an Lg device ) So if you don't plan to go from S3 to N5, stick to the S3!
well i am curious how long samaung/other custom devs will continue support galaxy s3 in 2014
cuz S4 still havent recieved 4.3 and 4.4 is already rolling out for Sony flagship device soon, which means this is my last samsung device >.<
And isn't mali 400mp old tho?
i will buy N5 in April then
thanks for the replies

Duuuuude....4.4 has not even rolled out to Nexus devices. Hell, it hasn't even been announced. No way can it roll out for Sony devices any time soon.
Sorry i worded that incorrectly but i hope you see my point; Im disappointed with samsung updates. I should have went for n3 in the first place, i'd have saved £40 anyways.
How the hell are you disappointed with Samsung updates?!?! They are right behind Google when it comes to updates. LG and HTC suck at updates.

I'll have to disagree with the HTC part. My HTC one just got 4.3. I own a note 2 and an s3 and both are still stuck on 4.1. HTC seems to be improving their update speed.

Except if your aiming to the n4 for its price. I seriously doubt the n5 will have the same price the n4 has. The n4 is, at this time, the best bang for the buck around. And I suspect it will continue to be for a good while.

I found a deal that would get me a Galaxy S3 or an Xperia ZL at the same price, the S3 is new, and the Xperia ZL is a used one. I've been having many problems with my Galaxy Nexus lately and am looking for a suitable replacement.
Which one is a better option?

Yeah, that I know. But I'll be getting the international version if I get the S3.

Thats a tough decision. I have stopped trusting Sony in matters of support since they messed up with their update policy regarding the 2010-2011 phones. If i had to choose now between the two brands i would definitely go for Samsung (which i did )
I honestly don't mind not getting official updates as long as there are smooth CM builds of the latest version. So yeah.. And the only reason I don't like Samsung is their design and popularity.
Btw, how does the Battery on these 2 phones compare?

Visit the Google Play Store on an internet browser (preferably Google Chrome) on a computer, then click the gear icon on the upper right, and then go into "Android Device Manager...". It should show your Player's location, unless the thief turned off location access

If you're asking for help after it's stolen, chances are you have not set up any countermeasures on your Player before. In that case, if Android Device Manager isn't enabled, I think you're doomed.

As far as I have seen, the 5.8 was only released in APAC areas. Good luck finding one.
I still insist that you should get a large screen phone, i.e. a Mega or a G Pro.

I'm not quite sure where you can get a Player 5.8, but I would recommend that you get the Nexus 4. If that's a bit on the expensive side, then probably the Galaxy Grand Duos (i9082).

I may be a little late to the party, but I saw a new 5.8 player for 495,000 Korean Won here in Korea (Lotte Mart). That makes it a bit over $500 in American money. AFAIK, it is only available in Korea.
