Exfat or fat32 both work fine

Yea I figured, it's just when I formated it on the computer it didn't work, then I formated it back to far32 and reformatted it using the phone, and now it's working fine. But what's weird is that it shows 125gb cause I've seen online that you can access 119gb,

It varies
On a sd card lets say 128gb for example
The amount you can use will always be around 110gb to about 126gb
As for the micro sd filesystem type i think that it has to be exfat if its above 64gb

Same here got 32GB ends up being 29.something. Its with all SD cards

The difference between the stated capacity and usable capacity is because of the different way memory card and hard drive manufacturers calculate capacity vs OS vendors.
When Sandisk says 128 GB, what they mean is 128,000,000,000, or 128*10^9
Windows, Android and all other OS's calculate it differently, they talk in binary, so instead of 10^9, it's (2^10)*(2^10)*(2^10)
so, 128,000,000,000 / (1024*1024*1024) = 119.2GB, which is what android should be displaying.

Yea that's the weirdest part.on mine it shows 125gb.

I think it can vary depending on how the individual unit handles some info so this could be brand/version spesific

I know right? that's what I thought to myself for the first time but there's no any issues in copying files or viewing them.
But like @Envious_Data mentioned it can be vary. Still I checked that they used the same type of sd card on z1 and it shows 119GB.
It's damn confusing.
Here's the link where xperiablog details about 128gb card on ZU, Z1, Z2 yet my Z2 and Z2 tablet shows 125GB :silly:

Hey guys, I think my sd cards are fake. cause I just checked it with esfiles explorer and it just shows only 9gb.
and the stuff I copied there are gone and only new stuff are there. I knew there was some weird thing was going on..

New 16GB MicroSDHC card I/O error

Hi Guys,
I've just got a new 16GB microSDHC card. I've formatted it in the phone through android and through recovery, I've formatted it with GParted under Ubuntu and I've formatted it under Windows 7 (Quick format).
Despite all this I'm getting an I/O error from ACast whenever I try to download a podcast and the same from Google Listen.
Also when I go to look at the contents of the card in the file manager sometimes it says the card contains the correct files and folders and sometimes it says the card is empty or only has two or so folders.
What's going on? Have I got a dud card?
I'm running Cyanogen Mod 7.0 Stable.
(I'm going to try a long format under Windows 7 now while I'm at work, but I'll check the thread again when I'm home (about 9.30pm GMT)
Cheers
Grindboy
OK a full format under windows 7 hasn't helped. Unless anyone has a suggestion I'm going to return the card for a replacement.
EDIT: Just stuck my original 2gb SD card back in and it's working perfectly so I'm gonna email for a replacement tomorrow. I must say I'm impressed that android picked up the error rather than just spazzing out!

when does the problem start? probably it damaged when you create goldcard...?...?
No. My Hero's been rooted since the 2.1 update to too long to come out. I never needed the GoldCard. I've returned the card and I'm just waiting for a replacement now.
Having the exact problem except it's too late to return my card so I need to find a way to fix it. Got a 32gb class 6 right before I traveled. When I put files/folders onto my new sd card from my old one, most (if not all) the folders end up being empty and the most files are missing from the root when I reinsert the sd to my phone or computer. Have no clue what the problem is. I attemped an A2SD as soon as I opened the box so could that've messed it up somehow? Thanks.
I was wondering about the formatting of the card as well. First thing I did ootb was format the card using recovery. I'm thinking that might have been my big mistake. Once the new card gets here I'll try it without formatting and simply using the built in apps2sd which doesn't require a ext partition.

I'm running VR13 so i had to use old skool version of A2SD. But really, does ANYONE know what in the funk is wrong with my sd
Buggeration!
The replacement 16GB card is having the same issue. Found a forum thread here which suggests getting Windows to "check and repair" the disk. Gonna try that now, give me a minute to reboot to my windows partition and run the disk check and I'll report back.
[edit] OK that didn't help
Here's the result of the disk check. It says it found and fixed some errors:

But upon trying to download a podcast the download errors out with "I/O Error".
I've emailed the merchant who supplied me with the cards (mymemory.co.uk) they are a really good company and I've used them for years so I'm certain its nothing dogdey going on. Could just be a faulty batch. I'll let you know what they suggest.

CynogenMod 9 and External SD

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) with CynogenMod 9-20120804-NIGHTLY-i9300 installed. I am using the standard CM9 kernel etc as well.
My issue is that I have a 64GB Sandisk external SD card that I have formatted to Fat32 so I can mount it and use it with CM9. It mounts fine first up but then starts un-mounting then goes through and prepares itself and mounts again. It does this off and on at random times. Is there anyway I can check whether this is a software or hardware issue? It is extremely frustrating, can't listen to music or anything off the SD card as it keeps unmounting etc.

jus a suggestion.... if you can try the sd card in another phone or try another memory card in your phone... that way you'll know if its the software or hardware
Hey, no I don't have another SD card to try. I may be able to try my SD card in an old Nokia I have though...
I really wish it would work, want to be able to put my 20GB of music on it!

I had a similar problem with cm-9-20120728-NIGHTLY-i9300
I inserted a brand new sandisk 64GB sdxc and it reported 'damaged sd card'
when i tried to format it from the phone it got stuck at 'unmounting device'
The solution for me was putting it into my brother's galaxy s2- format took 15seconds and i could use the card normally on my phone.
Well I formatted the 64GB SD Card in my old Nokia without an issue. After putting it back in the phone I had the same issues again.
I then tried a old 8GB SD Card I had around. That also was un-mounting on and off.
It seems like the problem maybe the actual SD card slot itself. See a picture below. It seems to be worse once I put the battery cover on the phone. If I old the card hard in it doesn't seem to un-mount like it has been doing. Not to sure what to do from here.... Maybe flash stock firmware and check SD card operation. If I have the same issues then maybe send away under warranty.

[Q] Android phone stopped recognizing my SD card

Here's the deal.
Today I woke up to my phone charging by the night... but it downcharged to 15% of batterry. I reboot it and find out that my SD card showed up info of being "empty". The minitool partition wizard on a PC shows me that info:

no no, the memory card is 8GB not 32MB.
How to recover the partitions? Also, the SD card has been partitioned for use with app2sd programs with this tut: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/SD_card_partitioning, because my phone (HTC Explorer "Pico") has a very small amount of internal memory. The rom was stock though.
Of course I could re-format it, but I don't want to, because the data stored there was very special to me. I want to recover it.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
I had that same problem a while back. I unmounted the SD Card and put it in another phone and it still said the same. So I soft reset my first phone, put the SD Card back in, and all was good.

But the card couldn't be recognized on a Linux, on a DMDE, SD Formatter, HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool, and primary on a TestDisk and on a GParted, and one big nothing was achieved.... You say that if I just soft reset the android phone, everything will be back to normal? Did you had the exactly same problem? You know, I need to clarify things before I do something that could destroy entirely my data.
I didn't have the exact problem just something similar and a soft reset (which will do no harm) worked for me. If the SD card can't be read any other ways then I don't know anything else other than formating the SD card.

SD card Help, Missing Gigs!

Reformatted my SD card from Internal to Portable after weeks of errors. I Used Aparted app to Partition (I Don't have an SD card adapter slot on my Computer) to partition 90% of my 128gb of space and the Rest formatted to ext2 to use Apps2SD.
When i get to the screen "Please extract Sd card and Insert back in" It would Error Out. I Notice now that my SD card says 119gb free instead of 128gb, after reforming. Is there anyway I can get back the missing Gigs? I'm using a Samsung 128GB EVO Class 10 Micro SDXC Card Bought from Amazon.
128GB never are 128GB since the conversion from bits to bytes takes off ~8% which would be around 117.76GB.
It does not have anything to do with your format, your device, your SD card or anything else.
Hope I could answer your question .

Thanks for reply. I did some research and figured that was the case. I'm just gonna reformat once I get my laptop cause my SD card is still corrupted but usable. Its showing up with a random name when I plug it into my pc.

Can you please tell me from where you got those statusbar icons?
Sure, download lunarUI in the playstore
Here's a Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=yadesign.lunarui
Finally got my laptop and Reformatted and partitioned 90% for storage and the rest ext2.
Just need to move my apps now. Need to do some research so I won't mess it up again. Anyone know how apps2sd work?

>>>>>How To Use A 64GB MicroSD On The 32GB Lenovo P70-A
UPDATE 4th August 2015: My Lenovo P70-A eventually started acting pretty erratic. I took out the memory card and a lil bit of normalcy was restored. Eventually I had to factory reset the phone to get it working fine again. I guess the 32GB limit is there for a reason. Some say it's a software limitation and I believe so cause the BlackBerry Z10 had a limit of 32GB before it was upped to 64GB after a firmware update.
=================================
32GB microSD card support is something I find normal on low range budget smartphones but for mid range and high end smartphones, I expect the minimum to be 64GB thus my shock when I found out that the octa-core Lenovo P70-A could only support microSD cards up to 32GB. Well while casually browsing the user opinion section of GSMArena, someone mentioned that he was using a class 10 64GB microSD card on his own but had to format it on PC first to get it working on the phone.
By default Windows OS doesn’t support FAT32 format on external storage of 64GB and above. For those it supports NTFS and exFAT which unfortunately most android phones don’t recognize thus to properly format your 64GB memory card in FAT32, you need a third party app.
NOTE: If you own a Mac, you could try the FAT32 format using Disk Utility. I personally went the Windows OS way.
Download and install EaseUS Partition Master 10.2. It’s free but contains some add-on softwares which you can skip during the installation process.
Plug your microSD card into your computer and launch EaseUS. Locate your microSD card in the interface, right click on it and select Format Partition.

Enter a partition label of your preference, set the file system as FAT32 and the cluster size as 32KB then click OK
Your FAT32 format request should show up under pending operations in the sidebar. Click on Apply to begin the format process. Click Yes on the Apply Changes pop-up
Viola! You have successfully formatted your 64GB memory card in FAT32 and can now use it on the Lenovo P70-A. This should work for other smartphones with the same microSD card size limitation but I’m not so sure. It’s a risk worth taking though.
So far, I’ve had no issues with my Lenovo P70-A using a 64GB card. If any issues arise, I’d be sure to update this post.
Have a great day
