As the title said, i'm thinking on buying a Z Ultra as a replacement for nexus 4.
for me the pros over the nexus 4 is the SD card slot, water resistant, better cpu and gpu.
the cons is the lack of AOSP rom, kernel and (maybe)community support. and also the future updates.
im thinking on buying z ultra since there is a significant price drop. it's around $350 here in Indonesia. nexus 5 is still around $450 for 16 gb here.
Is it worth to upgrade from nexus 4 to a z ultra? how's cyanogenmod 11 or other aosp rom running in the z ultra? is it as good as it runs on the nexus 5(same processor and gpu)?
Thanks and sorry if my questions is already asked before.
...well being interested in cm based rom this device might not be the most suiting device. Sony as always has this DRM issue when you unlock bootloader. So camera can freeze. Hopefully this might be fixed for now because of this:
http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/73062/
http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/73068/
Development of roms is not wide for this device. There are Slimkat and official CM nightly, LiquidSmooth and carbon ...that's about it. Now and then some xda users pops up with a build and a month later its in the shadows again with either no updates or dev says its official discontinued.
edit: for now. I can say that the fix works good, flashed the latest cm nightly to test

Is it as smooth as the stock rom? Is it stable enough to use it as a daily driver?
And since the only available version here is the c6802, is it ok to flash rom for togari which is c6833? Thanks

well cm nightlies for the most has a bit worse battery life. At night I can loose like 20-30% so I always charge mine when I sleep.
Slim however is very good with battery life, dunno if they have uploaded the new version yet.
I have only used the rom for a couple of hours and cm 11 seems to get more and more stable for togari
Before battery life and camera freezing was the two biggest downsides that kept me away to go with Sony based roms instead. The Gpe port rom is my choice of rom because I don't like the Sony UI.
For now. Its a daily driver. Very stable. But I have to evaluate the rom for a week. Hopefully there I wont discover any serious bugs or bad things
Yes you can flash any custom rom for your togari. The only thing you must keep away from is togari GPE which is the togari google edition. Thats is a whole other device.
Edit: Gallery app has changed. Some new buttons has appeared. But It seems to live its own life... displaying multiple files??? ...going in to es file explorer...they do not sit where gallery app says.
Carbon, slim and liquid have never suffered the same battery drain as some seem to have in CM, and all 4 seem very stable. I have been running Carbon as my driver since I took over the unofficial builds and have had very few issues apart from the camera freeze issue, but there has been an easy workaround for that.
No we dont have the same vibrant dev community as nexus or <shudder> S4/S5 but we do our best
....so stock camera started to fc and wont start no more. No matter what even if I clear data.
Every other camera app is working fine. Downloaded google camera from playstore and deleted stock camera app from /system/app/ with rootexplorer...meh. It was an easy fix.
Just an update on my battery life with the rom. Very stable. I think cm 11 for the ultra might be on its way to being more and more stable

something has changed and some new c6802 seem to have this issue. flash a FTF the, the the follow the lost IMEI guide (mine or the new one) then update to I think no newer than .290? and then try to flash a custom ROM again. I'm not sure how much of the above is needed, maybe just flashing an older FTF (say .290) is enough.
anyway just flashing the latest 108 FTF will get you back working

I did. But i move the back up to the pc back at the office. It was 5gb and my internal storage is full. So. Here i am. Thankfully, wifi still work.
I would have gotten the GPE edition of the Z Ultra if you was looking for a aosp type experience

Hi,
Just wondering what is the best ROM available at the moment either 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 for best battery life?
Thanks!
i was using [ROM][2.3.4][XXKH3] Cognition S2 v1.5.1 with great battey life,
now trying some 2.3.5 based roms but too early to tell for now
I'm experiencing great battery life with stock KI3 Rom. Anyway, i flashed it yesterday so it's too early to tell, but that would be my suggestion.

The link you provided is for the XXKI3 Kernel, not ROM. THe link for the full ROM can be fund here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277020.
I'm no expert, but I understand that you have to be root user and have clockwork recovery properly installed and funtioning to flash any ROM. Anyway, once that is done, it's really easy to flash new ROMs, just reboot in recovery ROM, and install from zip file in SD card. If this is your first ROM I strongly suggest you prepare yourself and read the articles there are about it, how to do a full backup in case anything goes wrong, etc...
Also, if it is your first time flashing a new ROM, you must understand that you may have to try various ROMs before you find the one you like, but that is the fun of it.
I've tried all the roms in the original dev section, and to be honest most are similar, depends on kernel as well. Most importantly usage, what might give one user excellent battery life might give another poor battery life. Best way is testing yourself.
I like VillainRom for its stock like features with the ability for us to tweak instead of a fully tweaked rom.

You can flash the Kernel with Odin but you may encounter problems depending on the ROM your are on. I'm not an expert in the subject of flashing diferent kernels so I mostly prefer not to do it. Instead, I keep the kernels that come with the ROMs I flash since the dev that created the ROM and chose to use that kernel knows a lot more than I do.

Plus one. Using Cognition, trying to scout and see which 2.3.5 ROM's are decent!
I have now rooted my phone and installed GT-19100_XXK13_original.zip
I am unsure if it's overwritten the kernal I flashed yesterday which was the Frankenstein one
How can I tell?
Just go to setting, about phone and look for the kernel version (you have to scroll down a bit). If it says XXKI3 somewhere it means you have succesfully flashed the kernel.

Hi guys. I'm confused. Please answer this:
S-Off = Unclock Boot Loader Yes/No?
But i can be s-on with unlocked bootloader someone said to me.
And what kernel you suggests my for stock rom?! With overclock.

Ah, i don't want a kernel that can drain my battery speedly.

Well if you plan on overclocking, you will get more battery drain. I would highly suggest flashing a custom rom if you want to get the best battery with a custom kernel.

I'm not a GSM user but as anyone will tell you.. read, read, and read again.
Go to a ROM which you think you want, read the posts about battery life/bugs. Flash it and actually use it for yourself. Not every one has the exact same set up.

Is your phone rooted, you never flashed it right?
If so, why don't you claim warranty. These devices shouldn't go off on itself.

I think you've installed a I9100G ROM instead of a I9100 ROM.
You have an I9100 phone right? Check below the battery just to be sure.
If you do, then:
Can you get to Download Mode? My guess is yes, so you can flash a stock ROM via Odin.
Here's a guide for boot issues & whatnot if the above doesn't work.

Hello gastonw, I could restore my phone, I did some mistakes but, everything went better than expected, so here are the steps I followed
1. I've downloaded siyah (great kernel btw) and then made a backup of everything on my phone.
2. Wiped Dalvik and factory/data cache
3. I've downloaded a stock ROM ICS 4.0.3 (latin america ROM) using google (hard to find, but everything is possible)
4. Flashed with odin 3.07 and was successful...then I turned mad 'cause I thought I lost all my data but... I made a backup.
5. Installed touch-CWM 6.0.1.2
6. Restored backup from CWM and voilá my phone was completely operative and functional with all my old app and configuration
Additional info: My software asked for an update from SAMSUNG.COM and now I have ICS 4.0.4 and runs too smoothly
Thanks for your support

Yeah because nobody else ever needs a flashable modem file. Besides that, nobody was stepping up to test for the op.

Sure and I flashed stock and then updated via OTA and restored my rom, point is its exact same modem like on custom roms but something is not allowing for band12.

I don't think it's the ota. I think it's the ota updater script. It deletes old files, the installs new modem files, and set permissions. In that order. I wander if deleting the files is the key?

The zip worked fine for me. I am using Sabissimo's stock/rooted/odex. No band 12 prior to flashing, band 12 active after flashing. Thanks!

I just flashed the rooted/odex version and booted into the phone and set up my account. Rebooted and flashed the modem and the IMEI SV still shows as 01. Did you first install the stock image and then flash the rooted/odex version?

Yes.
Custom roms do not contain modem files. Would cause way too many issues with users.

Yup that makes sence, but still does not explain why even after flashing people can't access band12.
Could someone perhaps creat a flashable zip for the XT1572 (Style) with band 20?

I am pretty sure this is the official Modem that Motorola released with Marshmallow.
Any band that motorola allows to be available is available, The only reason it says w/band 12,
is because that wasn't available on the original modems that were released for Lollipop

The modem given in the OP is for the Pure (the XT1575), which is for the USA. That modem does not include band 20, as 20 is only used on Europe. That is why people are looking for a TWRP flashable zip of the European (XT1572) (Moto X Style) MM modem.
Can this cause issues on an AOSP based ROM, I mean I know it's meant for custom ROMs but I flashed the zip from the TruePureXMM forumn and the VoLTE fix and it's caused nothing but issues for me ever since. Is there anyway to reverse it?

So this can cause issues, would reverts back to the old modem fix these issues by chance?

you might want to look into the the following thread then:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/development/rom-indian-marshmallow-variants-t3253684
@AnimusVoxx
If you have a full backup of a previous rom, Restoring that backup will revert the modem.
For the USA version I am running this modem without any issues at all.

OK so where I am at right now is I have flashed the stock MM image to my phone, installed twrp, then backed up everything, then wiped it and installed AICP, so would you say it would be safe to flash this modem? And it won't cause me to have complete signal loss? Also I'm not sure if it matters but here is a picture of my current baseband and whatnot.

The modem listed on your screenshot is the Marshmallow modem,
that is what should be installed on your phone at the moment,
there should be no reason to flash a modem again.
Also the screenshot shows the Lollipop version installed of AICP (10.0)
You can install the AICP 11.0, it won't change the modem
The original modem is
M8992_1255309.10.01.68R
Marshmallow Modem is
M8982_1255331.29.01.88.02R
If your phone is running with no issues in regards to phone calls, data,
On AICP 10,
Then the modem is good for your phone.
It will work just as well in MM, except for specific issues the devs are working on for some carriers.

I am having issues with my sim card being read, I think related to the bootloader/modem.
My modem/baseband is M8992_1255331.29.01.88.02R SUPER NA ( I don't know why it says SUPER NA)
My Bootloader is A0.48.
I know with my Moto G 4G, the issue was with the Bootloader where my sim card wasn't being read.
Hi-
I tried to flash TWRP earlier today and now when I try to boot into recovery, the screen just goes black. The phone is a rooted Verizon prepaid Galaxy S4 with stock ROM.
Fortunately, the phone will otherwise boot normally. How can I reinstall a recovery system?
Thank you!

Odin stock from www.sammobile.com. Stock recovery is included in the tar. Use FlashFire for flashing, the bootloader is locked on this device.

Thank you. Do I download from the Firmware section of that site?
Also, after I flash that, will I be able to change to a custom ROM, like Cyanogen? I have been experiencing a lot of overheating and poor battery life.

Yes and yes
OK, I just flashed the stock firmware that I downloaded from Sammobile.com using Flashfire. My phone appears unchanged. I still cannot boot into recovery mode, and all of my apps and settings are unchanged. What did I do wrong?
Thanks again.

no and no ?
you can't run any custom roms on this device other then stock tw based ones
Despite numerous attempts, I still don't have access to recovery mode. I used Odin to flash the stock firmware using the .tar file. I just tried flashing the PIT file, but the button quickly turns blue and says RESET, and my phone boots regularly.
Any ideas?

So there are AOSP ROMs posted here for no reason? That's BS.

I thought that's what I did - I downloaded a stock firmware from Sammobile.com - I545VRUGOF1_I545VZWGOF1_I545VRUGOF1_HOME.tar.md5
I tried to flash it again last night and although it passed, nothing on my phone was different (apps were all there, did not go through new phone startup sequence).

do I really need to explain what locked bootloaders are ?
the i545/i545pp is locked the only exception is if you have a original one thats still running 4.2.2 and no you can't downgrade
the s4 is a dead device MOVE ON

Yes I know what a locked bootloader is, but I am rooted with a custom ROM. You can flash ROMs and mods with FlashFire. Not dead by any means.

How are your comments helping anyone? You think it's dead, good for you. I, for one, am still currently using and developing for this device. As long as people are still using the device and the ROMs that are available then the device is not dead.

because he was asking if cyanogen was a thing ITS NOT
stop arguing with me
there are no custom kernels no custom pre-boot recovery you may or may not get root depending on your firmware version
there hasn't been a update of Note to any of the Roms in this sub in YEARS
sorry you disagree you are welcome to waste hours trying to get kexec running on the device then we will have something untill then its fuctionally dead because nothing you flash is gonna make a s4 relevant in 2017

So your advice to someone looking to make their device run better is to buy a new/different device? Just because it isn't "relevant" to you doesn't mean people aren't still using it. Kindly take your comments to a relevant forum.

I just bought a brand new S4 in Feb 2018 - on purpose, installed SmartDroid so I can enjoy a lightening fast quality device that's ad-free and has 3 - 4 day battery use - Trust me when I say, this is absolutely the most relevant aspect of the Smartphone experience.
