Ran across this image and wanted to share it with you guys . This is an ETA time sheet for the EMUI 3.0 update across Huawei devices and the american version of the Ascend Mate 2 4g (MT2-L03) is nowhere to be found . Though the other HAM2 models overseas are in the update plans . Sad to hear we are probably not likely going to get an update !
If this turns out to be true, this will likely be the last Huawei device I ever buy. They were 2 versions behind when they released it. A good custom rom will satisfy me though.
All the 3 MT2 listed in the chart are Chinese varies. But I agree Huawei has put MT2 to lower priority already. So hopefully they didn't list L03 just because that list is for domestic customers.

Yea, this could be true (Was thinking that myself) . Time will tell , hopefully we see an update before new years on our HAM2.

Agree! They are pushing very hard at promoting the HAM2 here in the US and I doubt that they would neglect any future OS updates as this is critical if they want to gain ground here in America . I'm sure they will , though they don't make those decisions here , their team in China does . That's why when people ask of they are gonna push an update they never give a concrete answer , just the typical " The HAM2 is upgradable and we will give out details when , if , it gets updated "
Not that big of a deal. Would it be nice? Yeah, but for my use, 4.3 is stable, runs everything I use.
If they did release 4.4, you know it would have some glitches out of the gate, which I would prefer not to
have. My Note1, which was replaced by the Mate2, I never got an "official" update past 4.1.2, and the custom
roms had some problems here or there. 4.1.2 was super stable.
I'll take an older stable version, over the new OS any day.
This could be the update to prepare for kit kat

Thanks for the info, not sure this 20MB update requires unroot or not. hope not.
KitKat coming this November?
I came across an update schedule a while back browsing hauweinews dot com. Look for "EMUI 3.0 Release Schedule Announced."
HAM2 is supposed to get the EMUI 3.0 update this November.
The November release date is only currently confirmed for MT2-C00, MT2-L01,MT2-L02 and MT2-L05 I'm afraid. Rom will be available in November for these devices and OTA update will come in December.
Yea , like the previous post stated , only the Asian variants of the Mate2 have been confirmed . No word on our MT2-L03 yet . Happy that they will address low light photography with the update coming out on the 8th of this month though .. And other small fixes
I don't really care if we get EMUI 3.0. I just want KitKat with a newer version of EMUI to be able to access all the awesome themes. But EMUI 3.0 would obviously be cool Lol

That's not strictly true as I'm on kitkat 4.4.2 with EMUI 2.3
I'm confident the US Mate2 is going to get the update. This is the only nice phone they have in America with LTE and its the only phone they are promoting on www.gethuawei.com. As a general marketing rule its going to be forced to be updated. The new Huawei Models coming out still does not have US LTE (idots). The phone is now coming out in Frys Electronics and It is now also being sold on ConsumerCellular. The more people keep buying this phone the better support we will get. HuaweiUSA is trying to stay here so a simple email to [email protected] telling them to give u kitkat updated wount hurt either.

Well, look at it this way, upgrading from like OS to like OS (4.3, 4.3, 4.3.x) isn't that big of a deal usually.
Updating from a .3 to a .4, JB>KK, may bring with it a whole host of issues.
I'd rather they give the update to the Chinese version, work out the kinks, BEFORE bring it it to the LTE version.
Better user experience.

There are 5 carrier versions of the Chinese Mate 2, they are ALL LTE apart from the MT2-C00.
I am yet to find any kinks in KK.
No fc's, lags or anything else, it's been a rock solid experience so far. Hopefully you will get it soon. :good:

Perhaps, but, it's not a "game changer" for me. I don't really expect "significant" updates for devices from carriers or
manufacturers, save for Apple, because, if you think about it, it sort of goes against their business model. If a huge update
is pushed out, there is no incentive to buy a new device. Right now, the stock OS on the (U.S.) Mate2 is about one of the
most stable that I have come across.

True, the Mate 2 is running well, but I own a lot of devices, all but the Mate 2 running 4.4.2 or higher. Stability has not been an issue as they all run without any issues. That being said the improvements made in Kit Kat have been rolled into the the apps themselves in 4.3. The cosmetic differences can be added rooting, with framework etc. The only thing I really notice is my emolge are black and white in any other apps besides Hangouts. That being said, Android L running ART could be a great impact on better performance, so getting the Kit Kat update would be nice to see too as well as continuing updates. I have older devices, S3 on StraighTalk for example that has never gotten an update in 2 years. Can't run some of the apps I use. Lg L86C, same boat, almost 400 bucks for that phone 2 years ago, never got an update, can't even run Google now launcher or Google wear. No emolge support at all. Those are both phones that would see great benefits in running Kit Kat with the lower ram and specifications. If the Ham 2 goes that route it would be my last phone from Huawei. Let's hope they continue to support the devices they make for at least 2 years. That would be satisfactory to me.

I'm really surprised after looking into this phone that it's only running 4.2.2 considering it's being release just a couple weeks before the note 3.. Does have news on whether it will be getting 4.3.. or kitkat?
Kitkat may be far away since nexus five is not yet unveiled, I guess

It will at least get 4.3 I would guess since it doesn't make much sense to have the new OpenGL 3.0 capable 330 GPU and only have an OS that supports OpenGL 2.0 stay on the phone. How quickly we will get this is anyone's guess however. I saw that google is already on 4.3_r3 which means they are still merging tweaks and fixes to the 4.3 release. LG may be integrating these and waiting for a stable code base to release with.

4.3 on my Gnex screams, I can only imagine on the monster that is the G2!
Im hoping we get KitKat but will settle for 4.3 for now.
LG is also doing all of the multitasking stuff that Samsung has been doing for the note 2 for the first time I believe. They probably started development with 4.2 or 4.2.1 and before release integrated 4.2.2. Integrating 4.3 before release would have pushed the release window too far behind the note 3 for them to stay competitive. They likely decided to release with 4.2.2 while already updating to 4.3 in another code tree, or plan to wait till 4.4 to give us a new OS version based update. All speculation, but it makes sense to me at least .
I'd hate to say it but LG + AT&T ugh I wouldn't hold my breath lol first of the year maybe at the earliest for 4.3
I'm hoping to go direct to 4.4 personally. Hopefully LG has had lots of access with the n5 to get a head start on it.

You're making me excited! My Galaxy Nexus is also super fast on 4.3. I can only imagine how blazing fast the G2 will be with CyanogenMod 10.2. Oh, it makes me quiver with excitement.
I have the T-Mobile variant. They have been on a big "be the best carrier" push, so I wouldn't doubt getting a new firmware update before the other carrier phones
Screw Android 4.3 At this point I want LG to release an update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat next year because we know Android is going to release some minor patches after Android 4.4 is released.
hmm yep you're right
why 4.2.2 at the first position instead 4.3
but since the major changelogs from 4.2.2 to 4.3 are about the bluetooth thingy and open GL thingy
for me it doesn't matter
since this beast can do all the things that a phone should do
who knows maybe after this, the first jump is kitkat

4.3 re-wrote a lot of behind the scenes stuff. Memory management and garbage collection seem MUCH better. My Gnex has never been so fast as it is on 4.3.
BUT part of the bluetooth rewrite has caused my phone to reboot on re-connection to my car head unit. A few others have experienced the same issue, across different ROMs as well so it very well may be an issue with the Android source code. Hopefully Le Goog fixes it because the rest of 4.3 is awesome. And FWIW 4.3 is the first version that actually streams the bluethooth metadata correctly so I can see artist/album/track info on my head unit now.

1) Another beta for EMUI 3.0 (400dpi) will be released to testers around 12/20, if all goes well, the final version will be available for all to download before 12/30.
2) There will be a final version release for EMUI 2.3 (320dpi) but it will not happen this month (Dec) as the focus at present is on EMUI 3.0.
3) EMUI 3.0 (320dpi) is also in the pipeline, earliest ETA is end Dec and under normal circumstances not later than mid Jan 15.

That's very promising that they are building a 320DPI version. I wonder why they are doing both 400 and 320 DPI?
I wonder too why they will build two versions (320 and 400dpi). There are a lot of requests for 320dpi in Chinese webboard.
For the existing beta Kitkat roms, I found that the fluidity of UI on 400dpi is much better than that on 320dpi version (a lot of hiccup on scrolling page and page changes). Not sure whether the future 320dpi official rom will improve.
Any Chinese XDA members here, please relay message to Huawei that regardless of 320 or 400dpi, Mediapad X1 is a tablet, so please make sure that the new roms will support tablet UI (if those apps in the google play support tablet UI).

Why? It's a phone, not a tablet. It's nonsense like this that causes operators like 3 to charge extra for service by saying the device is a tablet not a phone...

It's 3's nonsense charging scheme. In my country, no such different charging schemes.
For me, 7" is a tablet which UI should be designed for. It's a plus that we can use it to make calls.

I would agree, I'd rather have the Phone UI. I bought a phone that has a giant screen so I could have more space on the screen. Not because my eyes are bad and I want huge icons, I want more stuff on the screen to be able to see more without scrolling around. This 400 DPI and tablet UI needs to go away......

Yes, I want to know myself. Google suposed to be giving nexus devices upgrades for 2 years and the nexus 9 is still a new device and no update to version 5.1 yet. Stock images is still 5.0.1 version. I tryied updating to the pure AOSP 5.1 from the dev section from this forum but it had errors so bad it was unusable.
We already know that 5.1 still has memory leaks. At this point, I would prefer to wait another couple weeks and have them release 5.1.1

All versions with the memory leak. The most funny thing will be nexus 9 to receive 5.1 with 1 month delay and not 5.1.1 with the memory leak fix...

The Nexus 9 doesn't seem to be a priority for Google. Even the Nexus 7 2013/2012 have received 5.1 despite being much older than the N9, they should at least give a release window for the 9 even if they are unable to provide immediate updates. Although, I think the user base for the Nexus 9 might be small, so perhaps Google doesn't think it's necessary to cater to N9 users at this time.

I believe this too, due to the extremely low "nexus market share" this device has. Anyway, eventually it will be released.. Let's hope that it will be a final version. There will always be bugs, this is how software development works.
The SoC is a catastrophic choice. No other devices use it, I think, and development will be less than nothing from Nvidia.

Whatever pal. Believe whatever you like.
But the fact that neither you nor anyone else has actually *demonstrated* a memory leak really says a lot about how well (or rather poorly) you understand.
In fact, first thing I would do is challenge you to explain (without looking it up) what a memory leak *ACTUALLY IS*, as well as *prove* that there is one in play.
As Huawei Mate 10 pro was shipped with Android 8 last year I believe Mate 10 Pro also was a part of the Project Treble initiative. If that is so, is it correct to assume that we will soon see an OTA update for Android 9 to the Huawei Mate 10 Pro? And if so, does anyone know anything about the timeline? Like when can we expect to receive Android 9?
Project Treble is a major re-architecture in the way Android works. In essence, it separates the Android operating system (the Android 'framework') from the vendor Hardware Abstraction Layers ('HALs') that allow for the OS to work with the device's hardware

There have been a few OTA updates including safety patches until August 2019. So that is all good, but when I look in the "About Phone" in settings I am still on Android 8. As I am running this Mate 10 unrooted with a stock ROM I am really looking forward to Android 9 update, and have been checking frequently for new updates without luck.
Anyone knows more about this? Any set date or rumors about an upcoming update to Android 9 for the Mate 10 (pro)?
Currently there is Public beta going on if you are lucky for it to be available.
Date unknown. Probably sometime after the Mate 20 released.
Im in the same boat. Waiting for updates to alot of promised features
that are still lacking in the Mate 10. If Huawei released Android 8.1 for people outside of
China we would already have them.
Instead they are quick to release PUBG and GPU turbo fixes cause we would rather have that than updates for
Camera and Slow Mo 960fps etc.
Second beta was just released. Will update on Friday.
Information from the official Huawei forum in Serbia says that rollout of the official EMUI 9.0 for Mate10 Pro will start on December 14th.
So the Emui is equal to the Android version as in when Huawei update/bump their EMUI to 9.0 that means they will also bump the core to android 9?
Ok, probably just me that have read to much into the Project Treble an the separation of HAL. Since I first read about the HAL last year I kind of figured that the mobile devices that shipped with Android 8 would get a really timely bump to Android 9, like within weeks only after the android bump. So in my mind I kind of expected the roll out of new Android to be almost close to equal to the end of beta for Android 9.
On a semi related question, iirc the back story of the Project Treble was that Google wanted to address the fact that manufacturers did not commit to keep their Android devices updated, and that most of the manufacturers has a short life span of updates. Which combined lead to ie some bad press regarding vulnerability for many older Android devices, along with a less desirable user experiences with aging Android devices. Not to mention the lack of abilities to take advantage of all the newer software improvements that follows each Android update each fall. There have been a couple of Google initiatives prior to Project Treble, without hardly any traction and without Google being able to force manufacturers to stay committed.
So with the Project Treble Google did from what I can remember, make it mandatory for join the Project Treble for those who shipped their devices with Android 8. In my mind that translated to all kinds of things. Like Google putting down minimum requirements for number of updates manufacturers had to commit to, the speed of which they release updates etc.
However, did Google in fact put any of those requirements into Project Treble? Can we in fact look forward to having ie set number of supported updates from manufacturers in the future? Or will the big brands still be able to ignore their customer base rapidly and push forward with new models and focus their energy towards people updating their devices and buying the next year model rather then keeping their previous model with less overall waste, less economic impact and a more sustainable hardware update factor?
Treble means it would be much quicker and easier for oems to update to the newest version of Android, but it would still have to be the OEM making the update and pushing it out to your phone (unless it's an Android one or pixel phone I don't think Google themselves creates the updates)
There are no mandatory commitments to speed or number of updates, I think the only requirement was must be able to boot aosp (but unless your bootloader is unlocked you can't flash aosp anyway)
They will not release the 9 in the near future because they will launch mate 20 in less than a month.... they don't want to hurt sales.

There are no mandatory commitments to speed or number of updates, I think the only requirement was must be able to boot aosp (but unless your bootloader is unlocked you can't flash aosp anyway)

Well if Google didn't take any steps to enforce manufacturers to actually keep updating they should keep their mouth shut about it later when we will see as usual that android devices are lagging behind in version numbers.
I really thought Google went balls in and was brave last last year with Project Treble and put down some new ground rules for their OEM's. But now it seems treble is just as weak hearted as the previous attempts from Google. Well I guess the solution is custom ROM's.
Manufacturers will never keep updating unless they are pressured to do so, they will always chase the sale of the next device and try to maximize profit rather then committing to last years hardware is up to date. So I guess project treble was a nice idea but google lacked the balls to actually lay down the law and demand dedication. Spineless. And to think they once lived by the catchphrase "don't be evil".
Can you test in Europe? I know that the next person in China is testing k.b 1500 users !?

What a deception... I was hoping Samsung to be more faster on update.

Samsung and updates not a good match my friend...if u get a samsung for updates..thats no good.
I got my samsung for the hardware and how beautifull it is. Also with one ui the phone is very snappy as it is. No need for updates as of now
seriously?
I hope no betas are released until Samsung's official one
get a pixel!!
Q is no big deal anyway. There isn't a whole lot going on with it other than Google will be able to release security updates via Play Store with their new Project Mainline. It will also give the Pixel kids something to run around and squeal about because we know how they get all puffed up when they can say they got it first. ?
Atleast it's coming this dec.

Yeah, it's true that Android Q hasn't a lot of new stuff.
No need of it now.
But, there's many manufacturers who participate to the beta. I don't understand why a big player like Samsung isn't on the list.
I wish they will participate soon.

I've been through 2 betas with Samsung and before that I was in 3 or 4 with Motorola. To be honest, Samsung doesn't have a clue on how to run a beta program. When we reported problems in the Samsung Members app, the best we got if anything at all was to submit a report through the app to the developers. As far as I know no one got feedback other than we're looking into it. Everything I reported with the S9 carried over to the Pie final. Motorola had a dedicated forum with moderators that actually passed feedback back and forth. I even spoke with a software engineer two times.
Beta with Samsung is sort of here it is, hope it works.
well,i was hoping samsung can update a new full screen gesture like android Q , MIUI 10 , oneplus 6's or maybe just build-in one hand operation in next firmware. and faster fingerprint scanning,it really sucks when you try so hard and it just not unlock the phone

Not sure I agree here. I'm running it on my Pixel 3 xl and it has many noteworthy features. There is live caption which let's you get real-time transcriptions of what is being said on any video, in any app, across the entire OS. There are systemwide UI changes like dark mode and improved gestural navigation and the back button; over 40 updates to the way security, permissions and privacy agreements are handled. Also, there are improvements to Android's security which will make them come faster thought the Playstore (Project Mainline), better parental controls, new Notification Assistant that will help you reply to incoming chats and other minor stuff. In my opinion, it is by no means a small upgrade, specially when you consider it is still in Beta 3 and will probably add even more features. So far, it runs smooth as butter for me and had great battery life.

If it follows historically anything like previous generations of Samsung phones it should arrive to the S10 family sometime next year in February or March... Just in time for Google's Android R first preview release.

Why? Samsung have no commitment to release a beta firmware to users. People today are too impatient, you need to learn to wait for these things.

? I'm buying a new high branded product to have one of the best smartphone. I'm here because I want to share my experience and to find informations from others.
What I see is that almost others brands are offering beta firmware to users and faster updates than Samsung. Why do we have to accept this?
I owned some Samsung devices in the past. Finally change my P20 Pro to try S10. But Samsung was not faster than before on updates, maybe slower.
My girlfriend know nothing about cellphone and don't care about updates. But, if you're here man and you don't care about new characteristics, what are you doing here?

You accept it because that's pretty much the way Samsung has always been and not anyone here is going to change that. When someone buys a Samsung phone, they need to accept that as a condition. I would bet money that the majority of users worldwide care less about updates as long as their phone works reliably.

Other brands may very well offer beta firmware and if what you want is for firmware to come out quickly then I suggest next time you get one of those devices but what I said was be patient, it will eventually come out. You shouldn't be here just to whine about updates not coming out, I've been on XDA for nearly ten years now and it annoys me when people complain about the speed of updates. You should want a complete update without bugs and that takes time, making a post about it won't speed up the release and just clutters up the feed.
Samsung if you see has alot of devices to take care of. They release security patches on monthly bases to phone ranging from 100-max$ they have. Also the one ui which is very heavy skin needs to be fully usable and bug less in new android q. I myself have tried betas and didn't find anything usefull expect bragging in front my friends. Apps run same or maybe 1-2% faster in Q.
With Android betas you can download a new CPU & more RAM to your device so this is why it's so important to get it quickly from the manufacturer.

Ahh the age old xda mass-debate about beta firmware.
Get yer popcorn sweet-cheekses, its gonna be a great
All this mass-debating
In all seriousness tho Samsung won't be physically be able to release firmware as quick as Google due to the extra software overlay. Its that simple lol
Samsung has NEVER been known for releasing software early so I'm not sure why anyone would whine about slow updates.
Is look Android 10 UI 2.0 beta is coming soon ?
