I have the latest stock ROM installed. It is rooted and has the dual-boot installed. I cannot install any custom ROM: Castor-Mokee/Carbon or Cyanogen. Philztouch and CWM, report that my machine is a 'Sirius' and not a SGP521!
Does anyone have an idea of what the problem may be?

My Tablet is SGP521 and [ROM][UB][4.4.4][SGP5xx] CarbonRom unofficial for Castor, will not install, either. The custom ROMS, that I try to install, say they are for SGP521. Recovery, says my SGP521 needs a 'sirius' ROM.

Locked or unlocked bootloader? You need unlocked bootloader to install CarbonRom.
Unlocked boot-loader.
may have fixed it.

I have the dual-boot recovery. I think this may be the cause. (old thought).
It may be because I was fastbooting the boot.img from the PC, rather than the SD. I'm not used to this way of flashing ROMS.
The problem was: the boot-loader had become re-locked!
I fear that I've just brick my SGP512 Wifi Tablet. TWRP installed with XZDualRecovery told me that I tried to install Castor Windy, that is not compatible with my Tablet Model ...
Nevertheless, it seems that I was not wrong, because SGP512 Wifi Tablet is really a Castor Windy ??
I wiped all previously before installing a new CM11 Rom. And now, my tablet is unusable.

Please help me, I'm sorry ... :crying:

SGP 511/512 are the same devices, just with 16GB/32GB of memory. So ROMs for the SGP 511 also work on SGP 512. It's called Castor_Windy.
The LTE-version is called Castor. AOSP is only available for Castor, not Castor_Windy.
After unlocking the bootloader, OTA updates don't work anymore.
To install CM12, you have to unlock the bootloader and flash a CM11 boot.img via fastboot. Then you can install CM12 from the recovery.

Good day,
I have this Sony Xperia Z2 D6503 currently on Android 4.4.4 using 23.0.1.A.0.167 mobile phone which I am having trouble flashing, I have unlocked the boot-loader. I have flashed a custom Rom on this phone before, using suggestions that I have read on the Xda-Developers site. I reverted back to stock Rom after a while, because the custom Rom I flashed had issues with network service signal, and it began to restart the phone on it's own. I have found a good Rom and I am trying to flash this but it doesn't work. I followed all the steps like what I did in the first successful flash. I downgraded the stock Rom, rooted the stock Rom, installed CWM recovery, the exact same way as the first. Also I ensured that the MD5 number is a match and the Rom still won't flash, even tried TWRP recovery. It kept showing bad file. Is it possible that my boot-loader got re-locked when I reverted back to stock Rom using flash-tool. And how can I resolve this problem so that I can go back to flashing successfully.

Having some difficulty in doing this. Have tried a number of options and I keep getting the CWM recovery. Was trying this one

If you unlocked you bootloader those steps are a waiste of time. Just flash a kernel with recovery.

Unlikely, if your bootloader is relocked it should still let you flash the file but won't boot.

Thanks for all the help. I was able to finally flash the ROM. I just started all over from scratch, flashed ftf .167 with Sony flash-tool. Then rooted. Installed CWM recovery. Tried to flash kernel with recovery, that didn't work. So I just tried flashing ROM directly without wiping anything and it went thru. was very surprised. By the way it was eXistenZ Ultimate | 4.5.0 ROM.
Thanks developers at XDA:angel::good:
Hi guys,
I really need help here. I have a SGP312, bootloader unlocked, and I'd like to get back to stock rom 10.7.A.0.228 because I need MHL-Output and this doesn't work with any custom rom I tried. Here's the problem: I can get into fastboot and into flash mode but nothing I try is working. If I use flashtool the and flash latest XperiFirm ROM for SGP312 everything is running fine until I try to boot. The Sony logo appears and then nothing happens. Once I waited for over 30 minutes. Screen stays on but it's not booting.
So back to flashing recovery...in recovery I can flash ALL custom roms I want. LineageOS, crDroid, CyanogenMod, no problem. If I try to flash this: "https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-tablet-z/general/stock-10-7-0-228-vmo-t3303365" I have same problem as described before. Sony logo pops up, screen stays on, no boot.
Also I tried different recoveries TWRP, CWM, Phil's and so on and nothing seems to work. With wipes without wipes does not matter...
And I tried Sony flash tool Emma (with rom for SGP11) and I tried with TWRP to flash a backup of 10.7.A.0.228 I made...both with same results
Can anyone help? I just want to go back to Android 5.1.1 (root preferred but if no root it's also okay) or I need a custom rom with working MHL. Does anyone have the one clue that can get me back to stock rom?
Thanks guys!

It's a known issue, especially after coming from android 7.x.x ROMs.
You need to flash ANY stock ROM except 5.1.1. 4.1.2 or 4.4.2 will do. After the ROM boots ok, you can flash 5.1.1 directly via Flashtool 0.9.18.6.
It will work.

Thank you very much! I'll give that a try. Right now I'm having problems with flashtool 0.9.23.2. It gives me the "Processing of loader.sin finished with errors" and "Error in processHeader : 1" when I try to flash. Drivers are installed correctly, tablet z is recognized as "Sony sa0107". I'm running Windows 10 64bit and flashtool as admin.
Any ideas?

Hi Rootk1t,
thanks for the tip! It worked. I went from 4.4.4 to 5.1.1 prerooted although I had to do this with a Macbook. Even version 0.9.18.6 didn't want to flash my SGP312. I think the drivers on my windows machine are really messed up. But now everything is fine!
Thanks again!

I'm sorry but I can't find any suitable firmware for SGP312.
I'm currently on Android 5.1.1 (Build 10.7.A.0.228, Germany/EU if that matters), and I'd really like to try to upgrade it to LineageOS 15.1 for all kinds of reasons; but in case that I botch anything (or the apps I really need don't work, like the screen time manager, as it's the kids' device), I really want to have a working firmware at hand to at least recover it back.
Kinda-noob question: do I really need a flashable firmware or would a full nandroid backup work for a rollback once I have TWRP installed?

For a kids device, i would recommend to stay on sony stock 5.1.1, because games run faster there, also it is already tried and tested with easy root installation and debloating.
To revert back from custom ROM (LOS or RR) to stock you'll need to flash firstly any firmware (like 4.4.4) except the latest 5.1.1, then boot it, and afterwards update to 5.1.1 if you want so. If you revert straight to the latest 5.1.1 stock, you'll get permanent bootloop or black screen issue.
So you need to have at least two stock firmware packages.
As for nandroid backup, you can't revert from custom rom to stock via restoring nandroid backup.
Fresh install is recommended.

The official LOS comes with built-in recovery. which is quite crippled in what it can flash. If you have TWRP installed it should come with kernel or installed to FOTA partition.
In both cases check, that you're using TWRP 3.2.x.x version.
