Flashing Sony Xperia z2 D6503 with CWM Recovery installed unsuccessful - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good day,
I have this Sony Xperia Z2 D6503 currently on Android 4.4.4 using 23.0.1.A.0.167 mobile phone which I am having trouble flashing, I have unlocked the boot-loader. I have flashed a custom Rom on this phone before, using suggestions that I have read on the Xda-Developers site. I reverted back to stock Rom after a while, because the custom Rom I flashed had issues with network service signal, and it began to restart the phone on it's own. I have found a good Rom and I am trying to flash this but it doesn't work. I followed all the steps like what I did in the first successful flash. I downgraded the stock Rom, rooted the stock Rom, installed CWM recovery, the exact same way as the first. Also I ensured that the MD5 number is a match and the Rom still won't flash, even tried TWRP recovery. It kept showing bad file. Is it possible that my boot-loader got re-locked when I reverted back to stock Rom using flash-tool. And how can I resolve this problem so that I can go back to flashing successfully.

Having some difficulty in doing this. Have tried a number of options and I keep getting the CWM recovery. Was trying this one
twrp-2.8.7.0-sirius .img using the command window option. with no luck and the one click method, what am I doing wrong?

If you unlocked you bootloader those steps are a waiste of time. Just flash a kernel with recovery.

Unlikely, if your bootloader is relocked it should still let you flash the file but won't boot.

Thanks for all the help. I was able to finally flash the ROM. I just started all over from scratch, flashed ftf .167 with Sony flash-tool. Then rooted. Installed CWM recovery. Tried to flash kernel with recovery, that didn't work. So I just tried flashing ROM directly without wiping anything and it went thru. was very surprised. By the way it was eXistenZ Ultimate | 4.5.0 ROM.
Thanks developers at XDA:angel::good:

[HELP] [SERIOUS PROBLEM] i cant install roms on my neo v !!!

hi, recently i have installed some MIUI rom on my neo v, and was working perfect. but i wanted to go back to the stock roms, but i had a problem, and it was that it would take about 2 hours for every percent (using flashtool) !!! so i tried changing kernels, and the problem presisted, until i dont know how, i removed the kernel, and i couldn't install one again cuz it said that for doing so, i need to root my phone.
so basically, i have a phone without kernel and rom! can anyone help me fix it?
You don't need to root your phone to flash kernels. Flash kernels using fastboot. Do you have a nandroid backup?
Flash a stock ftf, sounds like you might have relocked your bootloader

well im only trying to flash a stock ftf, but im having the problem i said before!
and i have tried to do it in locked and unlocked bootloader, but there was no difference!
how many pc programs are there that can flash a rom?
is there any that can flash MIUI or CM roms (i mean zip ones)?
Flashtool for flash firmware like FTF file or flash kernel.
Fastboot for flash kernel only.
CWM for flash ROM through SD Card.
If u want revert back to stock.u will need FTF file and the right one flashtool...tick no verification final.
Sorry for my English

I'll attempt helping
Let's start with flashing a Stock ftf. U have one already. Use flashtool and do all as instructed. Untick Final Verification. Even if it is 2 hours per percent, just let it run. Perhaps your PC is slow.
And don't worry about battery running out. Did you know that when using recovery, if you remove the battery while the phone is still plugged into the computer, it won't turn off? It should be the same when using flashtool. Don't worry about battery
Once done, boot up your phone to check everything is done. If this worked, PM me, and I'll guide you through a MIUI flash.
You're welcome
1 more thing. Redownload the ftf. Maybe it is buggy.
Hey bro.
Is it fixed? Please let us know
sorry for being late to response!
good news, i fixed it! I dont know why i didn't try it sooner, but i tried flashing it with another pc, and it worked!
now i want some good roms for it,preferably based on JB. what are the bests out there?
BTW, Jass, your theory about "infinite battery while connected to pc" didn't turned out to be true, and it made me buy a direct charger! so please do not do this at home, school or...
when flashing ftf roms check in log to see if it gets stuck in this message [Ending Flash Session] (cuz it wont continue flash anymore)
if yes
plug out the usb
restarst your computer
try different usb ports

Actually I lost the steps/procedures I followed when I unlocked, rooted, and installed this custom rom i have. So what I did was to look under my memory bank but unfortunately, I just recalled a few. Of course, there was no more unlocking of bootloader and rooting(flashmode) done because it was already unlocked and rooted during my first update/installation, I just wipe cache, dalvik-cache and wipe date/factory reset using cwm recovery. After that, I flashed the JB ROM still using cwm recovery, reboot it on recovery and wipe cache, dalvik-cache and wipe date/factory reset then reboot. My phone restarted but only up to the sony custom rom logo. Can you please help?

Meaning after the incident of not rebooting of my phone, what I should do was flash stock rom using flashtool then install the custom rom via recovery?
first flash stock *.ftf file using flashtool then boot it first so that it becomes stable then again root your phone and install any cwm recovery you want then enter cwm make all the wipes that are given in the tutorial then flash the rom and then reboot

Keep in mind that ROM makers don't have means to test too many situations, so they have tested it in one way the know it would work, anything that have not not been tested would probably fail.

[Q] Root and Flash ROMs on 757 firmware

Ok, now i'm really confused.
I'm currently on 757 firmware and I want to flash the GPe on it. What exactly do I have to do?
LordManhattan's thread simply requires me to flash some files but the GPe thread needs me to flash boot.img or something.
Can anyone coach me step by step? I've never tried to flash a darn phone with so many prerequisites... It was so much easier playing with the LG and hTc

From stock 757 with unlocked bootloader:
Copy ROM zip to sdcard of phone
Flash boot.img from the ROM zip using flashtool and fastboot mode. the boot.img will have recovery already in it
Boot the phone into recovery, vol + or - while booting
Factory reset (or format data and wipe caches
Flash the ROM zip from recovery
Reboot into system
I assume you have followed lordmanhattan's guide and have:
Downgraded
Rooted
Backed up TA
Unlocked bootloader
Updated firmware to the latest

And what do you mean by updated firmware to the latest?
And the boot.img in the ROM package, does it already contain the recovery?

You want to downgrade to root? if so then yes - see my downgrade sticky thread in the general section for a guide
After rooting/backing up TA/unlocking bootloader you will want to flash the latest firmware again to get the new baseband, and a few other things else any custom 4.3 or 4.4 ROM's won't boot and/or will have IMEI issues

Ok to be honest, im trying to flash that ROM because the recent 757 firmware was supposed to fix the sound bug issue. It worked for others' ZU except for mine. Pretty pissed that all SONY said to me was to bring my phone down for a repair, hence i was hoping i could fix it by flashing another ROM.
I downgraded to .532 then updated it back to 757. Seems like it is a hardware problem...
WOW. I'M AN IDIOT. I DECIDED TO WASH MY PHONE UNDER THE TAP BECAUSE IT WAS A LITTLE DIRTY. AND SOMEHOW, THAT FIXED THE SOUND BUG. SOMEONE PLEASE SLAP ME IN THE FACE.

You don't read very well do you?

Next time you you need/want to flash your ZU take the time to read the steps, and ask questions if you aren't sure about a step or why some said to do something a certain way or to see a certain thread...

Thanks for the response blueether! In the phone settings it says Unknown for both baseband and imei. I found this thread where you helped another person with almost the same problem I guess, (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738141) and you have told him to follow these steps:
"Just do as has been said a thousand times...
Downgrade to .532 - see my downgrade thread
Root using either [NUT]'s dual recovery or bin4ries tool - see thread in step above or LordManhattans guide
Backup the TA - see LordManhattons guide
Upgrade to latest FTF
Unlock bootloader
Root using jackies099's kernel
..."
So I'm downloading a .532 FTF and will try out these steps once the download finishes in a while. As I understand, when I upgrade to the latest FTF (.757 now?) the imei/baseband should return.

IMEI/baseband should be fine if you were on 757 and flashed slim.
You could just try reflashing any 4.4 FTF you have laying around while you wait for the other one to download

Not sure why they vanished. Unfortunately I'm sort of a noob and don't have any FTFs lying around. I read some more threads and now I'm wondering what I should try first?
A - Flash 290 FTF then downgrade to 532
or
B - Straightaway flash 532 FTF
or
C - Flash 757 FTF

"flash 290" was written a long time ago when it was the 'current' firmware. I would flash 757 first and see how that works out.

Lost recovery and root after installing app for rooted devices, some guidance please?

So I've managed to recover root privileges but dual recovery is lost, I've read in dual recovery Q&A that there's some files I have to erase when you don't want it anymore, so I thought just erase and then flash dual recovery again, but since this happened a lot of factory resets ago there are some concerns about this being the right way, do I just flash it without erasing those files? Also is it realy necessary to flash the latest DR or will my old version do?
I'm on stock KitKat 4.4.4 build 14.4.A.0.118 on a c6833 with LB.
I would also love it if you could recommend the most stable Nougat or MM 6.0.1 rom, I know there's AOSP Nougat, DU and maybe RR for 6.0.1? What would you flash for a daily driver, I don't care about the camera much, but if Wi-Fi and phone radio are working normally, that should do it for me, thanks in advance to anyone that can give me a hand with this.

Awesome, just when I thought no one was gonna answer, so what do u think I should do to get DR back? Do I erase those files and reinstall or just reinstall? My OS is so unstable I'm afraid anything will brick my XZU. Do you need me to provide extra info?

may of missed this part but is your CM based????
No, It's Stock KitKat 4.4.4 build 14.4.A.0.118 with LB. I plan to unlock the bootloader if I get recovery back.

Have you tried to Unlock the bootloader, flash the recovery and root and relock it?
By any chance have you been on official 5.1.1?
No I've never been on any stock LP be it 5.0.2 or 5.1.1, so does it matter if I erase the files in the following howto before reinstalling DR?
How to remove DR:
Delete the following files:
/system/bin/recovery.twrp.cpio.lzma (or .tar)
/system/bin/recovery.cwm.cpio.lzma (or .tar)
/system/bin/recovery.philz.cpio.lzma
/system/bin/charger
/system/bin/dualrecovery.sh
/system/bin/mr
Also is it better to unlock the bootloader first? I don't want relock it afterwards since I want to flash DU or AOSP Nougat, or RR M and have a recovery.
I read a lot of the forums all the time but I'm still pretty much a noob at this, up until now rooted Kitkat is all I've needed, sorry if I'm asking too much.

OK so I've been reading, are you suggesting that I unlock the bootloader so when I install DR it stores the recovery on the FOTA kernel partition, instead of /system, so i won't lose DR next time?
I guess that's what I've been looking for if so, last question, is DR compatible with Android M or N roms?
I'm sorry if it's a dumb question, I'm still a noob, hehe.

I could be wrong but it sounds like you wanna be on a cm or asap rom with DR.
If you plan to use any of those roms, yes unlock the bootloader. From this point you should be able to install DR on top of the current recovery, as long as you've had any type of recovery you can flash with an app. Rashr, twrp manager etc.
I've UB now, do I need the new bootloader? Do I get it if I go directly from my Stock KK to RR Lollipop rom? Can I go directly from stock KK to RR Lollipop without bricking it?
Sorry if I'm asking to much but I'm just trying to make sure I don't end up with a bricked phone.

Can anyone help please?
So I've managed to get DR working again flashed RR Lollipop but now my phone doesn't see my external SDcard, what should I do?, I've read the whole RR L thread down to the last message but the only solution I've found which is to correctly uninstall Nut's DR doesn't work for me since there's no such files in /system/bin

I believe no. I I'm not to familiar on the new bootloader. Prob have to ask one of the rom devs, but im pretty sure you just need twrp 3.0
Thanks RealityFails, you've been of such help, I did learn from your posts, I flashed DR then RR LL rom then with twrp app and flasher I got my recovery for non-stock since I read somewhere that Nut's DR doesn't work with custom roms.
I'm now trying to learn how to read android's logs to see what's up with this ROM not reading my external SDcard, when I go to storage unmount it then mount again, it reads for a few seconds then it's gone, whatever man! he he crazy rom, otherwise is awesome, and everything else works. If I'm not able to fix the SDcard access do you recommend any other LL rom similar to RR?
Anyhow many thanks for helping this Z Ultra stay unbricked, updated and with a decent recovery.
