Need a little help setting up my dev environment on Windows 7.
I had it working perfectly on my old PC running XP. I have since bought a laptop with 7 and am trying to set up a dev environment on it but am having issues with the drivers (at least as far as I can tell).
I have:
Android SDK installed - including all available components
Java 1.6 SDK and JRE installed - environment variable is set
SEUS and PC Companion installed
Rooted my phone to 026 using the original method - done on old machine
USB Debugging switched on on my phone
When connecting my phone, I get no option to install the driver. My SDCard also automatically mounts itself, which i'm not sure if that's related to my issue. Any ideas how to stop it from doing that?
When I try to update the driver software via Device Manager (browse to <sdkdir>\USB_DRIVER), I get 'Windows could not find driver software for your device'.
I've read through a few threads, particularly the rooting issues thread, and googled it in quite a few different ways with no luck. The closest I could find is XperiaX10iUser's post in this thread. Running USBDeview as mentioned, i can only see 'SEMC Flash Device' and 'Sony Ericsson X10i' that would be relevant. However, when I try to uninstall selected devices it does nothing (no error, just doesn't uninstall).
Running 'adb devices' returns a list of devices with nothing in it.
Any help/ideas would be much appreciated as i'm going insane here!
Are u maybe running 64bit win7?

Uninstall your Java and start from scratch using the 32bit versions of Java, and run USBDeview without the phone plugged in if you haven't done already.

I installed 32bit Java (1.6.0_20) and reinstalled all the Android SDK components. No change in symptoms.
I have run USBDeview with the phone plugged in and without.
i'm running win7 x64 and it works normally.
another day i tried install a theme (without have seus or pccompanion installed on my pc) and i had the same problem. after i installed pccompanion, it worked normally.
remember that you must have usb debugging on, to adb devices show your phone.

I definitely have USB Debugging on and PC Companion installed.
Where do the drivers for the X10i actually come from? The phone, SDK Drivers component, SEUS or PC Companion?
What am I missing?
Does anyone else's SDCard mount itself when plugging the phone in? It didn't do this on my old machine.
EDIT: I was able to remove USB devices using USBDeview. Just need to right-click and 'Run as administrator' (which is odd given that my user is admin). Didn't help me installing the driver though. Still can't find anything when pointing to <sdkdir>\USB_DRIVER.
My <sdkdir> is C:\Android\SDK. It shouldn't matter that it's not the default path should it?
EDIT2: Apparently, DoubleTwist has an auto USB mount option. Doesn't make a difference to the driver issue though.

Install pdanet the desktop version ( its a program used for usb tether ) the idea is that this program installs the sonyericsson drivers with it, just follow the instructions of the installation process and tell me how it goes..

Hi sir, do you have time? I cant figure out what is wrong with my x10. When i try to flash those Generic Stock Rom, i get to have errors flashing. It aborts sometime when flashing system.sin and other sin depending on the tft file... i dunno what version my phone is but my pc detects it with flashmode. When im using Seus, it fails flashing in about 90% of the process... when booting my phone, just a quick vibrate with green flashes once. Do u have skype account? Hope u have time and can help me. Most of the links in xda our outdated. And i know my phone is outdated too. Thanks and more power
Yesterday, I upgraded my new white dell streak to from 1.6 to 2.2 using the QDLtool. BTW, its easy as pie, it took about 30 mins, even with the extra task for using a 64-bit OS!!! I used the phone as i would normally yesterday and everything, GPS, internet, Facebook, etc worked perfectly.
Today, I try to do anything web related (i.e. Market, internet, Facebook, etc.) and I get 'A network error has occurred' message. I have tested the phone service and it seems to be working fine.
Has anyone else ran into this or have ideas of what I might try? Thanks in advance, cheers.

I FEEL LIKE A NOOB FOR THIS...
At any rate, I solved this problem by resetting the APN to default.
Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Access Point Names > Press the 'Menu' key > Reset to default > check the radio button under ATT US.
Data network seems to be working fine at this time. I will post if anything changes.

No experience at all for me. I had never even touched an android phone prior to the streak.
I haven't heard of anyone bricking their phones with QDL when following the guide, many have bricked them by other means though. It took 10 minutes from unzipping the download to rebooting into 2.2 for me. The software did all the work. I have heard of several people successfully unbricking with QDL.
Some people have issues with getting drivers installed but the tool will not act without the correct drivers so there is little risk there. If stock 2.2 is your goal there is no easier way that I have seen. After QDL is done I think the process on to 1.5.5 is easier also.

Qdl is simple. Its mostly automated. I havent seen anyone brick it with qdl yet. Drivers can be a pain, but fairly simple if your familiar with windows at all. Easier with vista/seven in my opinion.

that's good to know. I have quite a few options. I have a linux machine with ubuntu, an older win XP with 32 windows, and a W7 64 bit machine. The XP machine is hella slow though, so the W7 machine is my preferential option. A smidge concerned about the extra step since it's a 64 bit machine. I'm going to look into it tomorrow since I am off work for the rest of the year for the holidays. I'll report back with my results.
I'm coming from rooting my G2..Now I'm gonna try to root my girls streak. I advised her to get the phone and now feel bad shes still stuck with 1.6. I'm gonna attempt this tomorrow as it sounds easy. Just wondering why you don't have to root in order to update. Is there no root necessary to update?

The extra 64-bit steps were easy to do. I did install the wrong driver at first. I installed the 'Modem 9002' driver instead of the 'Diagnostic tool 9002'. I just went back to 'Device Manager', removed the wrong driver and installed the correct one. After that, make sure you install ADB drivers and then use the QDL tool. As stated previously by others, the tool does all the work. I hope this helps. let us know how things go.

My previous experience comes from hacking a few iphones, then I switched to android devices. The biggest difference I have seen is that the android hack require more command line tasks than the iphone. DO NOT FEAR THE COMMAND LINE, MAKE IT YOUR B****!!!!!
But a tip I'll give is, ALWAYS follow the guides STEP BY STEP, and make sure you know where the files you are working with are!!! A lot of the bricks come from poor file management i.e. the fastboot or update.pkg file not in the correct directory or file name is wrong and needs to be changed.
The QDL tools was suggested for the white streak as it slightly different from the black unit in the form a of preventative hacking measure, at least that is the only different that I am aware of.

Nothing I have read required the streak to be rooted before hand but my device was rooted. i have not rooted the build yet either. If she isnt going do anything that really requires rooted then she may not even need it. But 2.2 is pretty smooth so far and she will most likely benefit from having the better device with 2.2 than being rooted, IMHO.
The entire process took about 30 minutes and after fixing the APN issue the only other problem I had was what UI i was going to use.(Currently running Laurncher PRO - with the purchased key...AWESOME!!!!!)

Since I've tried other methods of installing ROM's previously by using the W7 machine it wouldn't work. So I did a system restore to get rid of the previous stuff. Now it won't even let me install the the ADB drivers can be downloaded from Dell: ftp.dell.com/Handheld/R288920.exe
It just say's error on install. So I tried it on my super old XP machine which was brutally painfully slow. And it won't even update the driver manually. It just says "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware." I will say that under device manager on the XP machine it just lists it in other, like it should, as a Generic Volume instead of the Qualcomm stuff. Weird.
So just outta curiosity, since this froyo build puts your baseband at "00", wouldn't it be possible to then use's dells officially 2.2 unlocked rom and flash it through recovery? I mean using the update.pkg file from your sd card?

In the streakdroid guide there is a command line task you needed to execute before doing anything. To the best of my knowledge that task set WIN 7 to run in a testing mode which allowed for the ADB drivers to be installed properly.

I was wondering if you had to do the command line portion prior to installing the ADB drivers. Going to give that a go. Wish I could just get it to work with the XP machine, but I can't get it to recognize in the device manager that it's plugged in without turning the device on. It makes the sound as if it realizes a device is connected, but nothing ever shows up in the device manager. grrrrrrrrr

What kind of machine are you using? xp/vista/7?
This sounds easy...I will try tonight using Streakdroid guide...good to hear from someone doing this with a White Dell Streak and being successful.
I have read that others have flashed the 2.2 *.pkg with success. The QDL installs dell's 2.2 during its process. I stopped there and have had no issues othe than the APN. Now that I think about it, I think that the QDL 2.2 is meant only to write over the device itself with out any of the specific carrier bloatware. And because of that it did not know what APN to the use until I re-registered.

I did do the command line portion before the ADB install. But that portion is meant for the 64-bit win 7. what happened when you tried it on win 7?

using the W7 64bit machine. This is where I am at.....at about 8 hours in at this point. I've pretty much given up for today though.

Ok so I have the option of 2 machines to try this on.........and I'm going on about 7 hours with no luck with either of them. One is a hella old laptop with Windows XP on it. The other is a newish laptop with 64 bit W7 on it. I originally tried it with the XP machine. I can get the drivers DLed and installed successfully on the XP machine, on the W7 machine is immediately says failed when I try an install. I should preface this with saying that I previously had the Dell PC suite installed on the W7 machine using a different version than what's listed in the streakdroid guide. Then onto plugging in the phone on the XP machine if I do that battery out the volume up/down method it makes the sound as if something is plugged in, however it isn't visible in device manager. Not that is matters since I can't even get the drivers installed on the W7 machine, but it's the same. Makes sound as if something is plugged in, but nothing under device manager. When going through the guides it say's it should fail on install when hooking up the device for the first time........wel nope not on either machine. It installs it correctly as a mass USB storage device. Dammit.
This is weird but I can't seem to figure it out. I have a rooted S2 CWM, CM7 and I am trying to pull wakelocks using adb. Now I used adb last week but now for some reason Windows 7 64x will not recognize my phone. I've re-installed the official driver from Samsung, uninstalled Kies and re-installed, rebooted, re-installed Android SDK...nothing seems to work. Not sure what else to do. I can put it in USB mode and it works but just straight plugging the phone up doesn't work. Turning on USB debugging does nothing. Any help would be appreciated.
Only thing I can tell you is keep trying to uninstall the driver and re installing it until it works - if you have ever considered using LINUX such as dual booting it or installing it on an older machine you have setting around this is one good reason to take that step, you will not likely ever have any trouble getting LINUX to recognize your phone.
Adb works great, and LINUX is the native development platform form Android.

I've tried that a couple of times. I do have a laptop at home with Ubuntu so maybe I'll just hook it up to get the information. Just not sure why this won't work when it was yesterday.
I have followed about every damn fastboot on Windows 8 post I can find on XDA and none of them seems to be working with this phone. adb drivers work just fine but no go on fastboot. Anyone out there have any luck getting fastboot working on Windows 8 with the DNA?
I successfully used fastboot and adb on Windows 8(64 bit). When i first plugged in the phone, and it wanted to install htc sync, i allowed it to. Then i uninstalled htc sync, but i believe it left the drivers. Adb and fastboot worked fine.
You might also check that you are using a usb2 port (not usb3) and not using a usb hub. Both have been known to cause problems with fast boot/adb

Reinstalled latest HTC Sync from their support site and switched to USB 2.0 port. Seems to be working ok now. Thanks! Can stop using the backup machine with this phone now :highfive:

i was in the exact same position. My system runs Win8 x64 and I had my phone plugged into a USB3 port, but even when I plugged it into the only USB2 Port, it still had issues so I used my Win7 x64 Rig and it worked flawlessly.
Also make sure you don't have an app like easytether installed on the computer this if very often overlooked just disable it for the system tray in windows

I was able to select and install the driver directly using device manager in Windows 8. The driver file can be obtained from the drive that the DNA mounts when you plug it in USB. I used the windows 7 driver:
i.e. <MountedDrive> HTC Sync Manager:\Win7_64\androidusb.INF​
Hate to revive a old dead thread, but I guess it is better than posting a new one, so anyways on to my question, my only computer is a Microsoft Surface Pro, and it only had one USB port which is USB 3.0. In the last few months since this thread has been dead has there been any progress on a USB 3.0 driver from HTC, or here on XDA. ADB works perfectly but I can't get fastboot to install. I have the SDK installed correctly but I just can't seem to get the drivers for for fastboot to install.

I don't have surface so i'm speculating but, just like everything else. Install htc sync to make sure that all the drivers take cleanly. Plug in your USB and
adb reboot bootloader
when your phone reboots it should say
fastboot usb.
If it does then you are good to go, just run the fastboot commands from the same folder that your platform-tools are in. fastboot flash boot boot.img
it will say sending, then working. and you should be good.
If it does not say fastboot usb, then please post back and we will do more research to figure this out.

I've never heard of anyone with a usb 3 succesfully doing it and i've searched the forums like crazy. The only way i was able to get it to work is cuz i have two ports and the other was a 2.0.
I mean maybe im crazy but is there some sort of an adapter than could change 3.0 to output 2.0? idk....
On a side note I loved Windows 8 for about 10 minutes then dumped it and went back to Windows 7. Just saying.. I know that's not always an option.

Lol , I'm with you on that one. I had dual boot and windows 8 took over my whole computer and locked me out of my Ubuntu partition. Plus hate the fact that windows 8 integration is dependent on having a windows account for EVERYTHING.

Well aside we are off topic anyways Windows 8 on a desktop or laptop is a piece of sh#t, but on the surface this is amazing I could not imagine anything better on a tablet. The only problems are the price and only one usb, other than that this thing is the best computer by far that I have ever owned. And I would venture to say that it's the best tablet EVER! The only thing that would make it better is if the DNA would play nice with it.

I have tried almost everything, but I can't get my phone recognized in fastboot mode.

Other easy way if you're using a One S is to download Hasoon2000's All-On-One Toolkit. He's updated the drivers for windows 8. I haven't tried it yet as mine are working so haven't had the need. I would assume his tool for any of the other phones he supports would have the updated drivers too.

And the phone is recognized fine when in regular mode. Though, whenever I reboot the phone into the Bootloader using adb, it restarts into the fastboot, but it doesn't change to "Fastboot USB" and shortly after I get a "USB Device Not Recognized" on my PC and it saying something about it malfunctioning. So I get stuck on "Waiting for device" when trying out this command "fastboot oem get_identifier_token."
Any ideas? I'm trying to unlock the bootloader and root so that I can install custom ROMs and kernels.
Hey there! Sorry my fix didn't work for you.
My question is, are you running windows 8 or 8.1? The reason I ask is because the 8.1 update has broken fastboot apparently. I don't remember the last time I tried on my computer to see if fastboot still works or not since I updated to 8.1.
If you are running 8.1 windows then the guide at droid-now.com seems to have worked for many people. Go to that site and search fastboot fix windows 8.1 or you could just Google that too I guess. I would paste the link right now but my phone is being stupid and not letting me paste it ATM. :-|
If that doesn't work then you may be able get what you need done by dual booting into Ubuntu if you feel comfortable doing so. You could easily make a bootable flash drive that you could boot into just for an emergency. I just used one for about 4 days while fixing my computer after I accidentally erased the partition tables of my hard drive, trying to make a permanent installation of Ubuntu. Got it fixed BTW! ats self on back:

I am running Windows 8.1, however it looks like the fix only applies to Intel motherboards connecting through USB 3.0 ports. I do have USB 3.0 ports, but my motherboard is AMD and my USB3 controller reads "VIA USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 0100 (Microsoft)." I'm not sure that the fix applies to me, unfortunately. Also, I am not connecting my phone to my PC using the USB3.0 ports.
I tried downloading the USB 3.0 Drivers for Windows 8 64-bit on the manufacturer's website for my motherboard (http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4305), but when I try to update my drivers to the ones I got from the website it says that the Microsoft provided ones are the most recent/ up to date drivers.

And the phone is recognized fine when in regular mode. Though, whenever I reboot the phone into the Bootloader using adb, it restarts into the fastboot, but it doesn't change to "Fastboot USB" and shortly after I get a "USB Device Not Recognized" on my PC and it saying something about it malfunctioning. Be Advised, there is perhaps a way , you wil find in the link below, but be sure to use the right intel driver And only if you hae an intel chipset for usb3 , please read the comments and my bad experience :
Under win8.1/X64 that if you have(like me) an Intel 8 /c220 (or with a 4th generation like intel I7 4770k) you may encounter a big mess , and perhaps you''l have to do a clean install of win 8.1 : all the usb2 DEVICES were disconnected after the first iusb3xhc.inf driver install !! So no more usb/Bluetooth keyboard+mouse , fortunately i had an old ps2 keyboard and i was able to delete only with "tab/alt Tab/ctrl tab" keys the
"intel usb3 extensible " line in device manager, and as soon as i done a refresh (ALT+A) in device manager the previous driver(Microsoft) was reinstalled by win 8.1 andall the usb2 devices connected (mouse/keyb/hub etc)

Before trying this I would goto your device manager and right click on the currently installed drivers and uninstall them before installing the drivers again.
Hope that helps. I am using the link found in that second link and fastboot and adb works perfect. Also, while you can boot into fastboot, stock 1.58 will not let you run a lot of fastboot commands and will need to flash a different hboot.
