Driver issue - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

This is weird but I can't seem to figure it out. I have a rooted S2 CWM, CM7 and I am trying to pull wakelocks using adb. Now I used adb last week but now for some reason Windows 7 64x will not recognize my phone. I've re-installed the official driver from Samsung, uninstalled Kies and re-installed, rebooted, re-installed Android SDK...nothing seems to work. Not sure what else to do. I can put it in USB mode and it works but just straight plugging the phone up doesn't work. Turning on USB debugging does nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

Only thing I can tell you is keep trying to uninstall the driver and re installing it until it works - if you have ever considered using LINUX such as dual booting it or installing it on an older machine you have setting around this is one good reason to take that step, you will not likely ever have any trouble getting LINUX to recognize your phone.
Adb works great, and LINUX is the native development platform form Android.

I've tried that a couple of times. I do have a laptop at home with Ubuntu so maybe I'll just hook it up to get the information. Just not sure why this won't work when it was yesterday.

Installing X10i drivers on Windows 7 help

Need a little help setting up my dev environment on Windows 7.
I had it working perfectly on my old PC running XP. I have since bought a laptop with 7 and am trying to set up a dev environment on it but am having issues with the drivers (at least as far as I can tell).
I have:
Android SDK installed - including all available components
Java 1.6 SDK and JRE installed - environment variable is set
SEUS and PC Companion installed
Rooted my phone to 026 using the original method - done on old machine
USB Debugging switched on on my phone
When connecting my phone, I get no option to install the driver. My SDCard also automatically mounts itself, which i'm not sure if that's related to my issue. Any ideas how to stop it from doing that?
When I try to update the driver software via Device Manager (browse to <sdkdir>\USB_DRIVER), I get 'Windows could not find driver software for your device'.
I've read through a few threads, particularly the rooting issues thread, and googled it in quite a few different ways with no luck. The closest I could find is XperiaX10iUser's post in this thread. Running USBDeview as mentioned, i can only see 'SEMC Flash Device' and 'Sony Ericsson X10i' that would be relevant. However, when I try to uninstall selected devices it does nothing (no error, just doesn't uninstall).
Running 'adb devices' returns a list of devices with nothing in it.
Any help/ideas would be much appreciated as i'm going insane here!
Are u maybe running 64bit win7?

Uninstall your Java and start from scratch using the 32bit versions of Java, and run USBDeview without the phone plugged in if you haven't done already.
Yes, I'm running 64bit Win 7.

I installed 32bit Java (1.6.0_20) and reinstalled all the Android SDK components. No change in symptoms.
I have run USBDeview with the phone plugged in and without.
i'm running win7 x64 and it works normally.
another day i tried install a theme (without have seus or pccompanion installed on my pc) and i had the same problem. after i installed pccompanion, it worked normally.
remember that you must have usb debugging on, to adb devices show your phone.

I definitely have USB Debugging on and PC Companion installed.
Where do the drivers for the X10i actually come from? The phone, SDK Drivers component, SEUS or PC Companion?
What am I missing?
Does anyone else's SDCard mount itself when plugging the phone in? It didn't do this on my old machine.
EDIT: I was able to remove USB devices using USBDeview. Just need to right-click and 'Run as administrator' (which is odd given that my user is admin). Didn't help me installing the driver though. Still can't find anything when pointing to <sdkdir>\USB_DRIVER.
My <sdkdir> is C:\Android\SDK. It shouldn't matter that it's not the default path should it?
EDIT2: Apparently, DoubleTwist has an auto USB mount option. Doesn't make a difference to the driver issue though.
Ok listen to this, it will seem a little crazy but i wonder if it will help
Install pdanet the desktop version ( its a program used for usb tether ) the idea is that this program installs the sonyericsson drivers with it, just follow the instructions of the installation process and tell me how it goes..

Hi sir, do you have time? I cant figure out what is wrong with my x10. When i try to flash those Generic Stock Rom, i get to have errors flashing. It aborts sometime when flashing system.sin and other sin depending on the tft file... i dunno what version my phone is but my pc detects it with flashmode. When im using Seus, it fails flashing in about 90% of the process... when booting my phone, just a quick vibrate with green flashes once. Do u have skype account? Hope u have time and can help me. Most of the links in xda our outdated. And i know my phone is outdated too. Thanks and more power

[Q] Can't install S3 drivers

So, trying to install the driver exe file from Samsung's website and it won't work. Keeps saying that it failed to install drivers. And, if I have the phone as USB Debugging enabled, it'll pop up with 2 out of 4 that says it failed to install.
My roommate was able to install the .exe file on his Windows 8 beta laptop (I'm running Windows 7 64-bit) without a problem. And, the phone installed fine on his laptop as well. For me, no.
If USB Debugging is not enabled, then yeah, the phone is fine. But, since I want to root this thing, it won't accept the drivers. And, nowhere on Google, searching or Samsung's website provides me any answers whatsoever.
I've done:
Going through regedit and deleting all things Samsung related
Deleted every Samsung folder on my hard drive
Rebooted the computer
Uninstalled the drivers
Reinstalled multiple times
Downloading and installing Kies (did not install any drivers, still failed)
I've done everything I can possibly think of. Couldn't find any answers on here, either. And, doesn't help that the search function is broken.
So, anyone have any idea on how to fix this? And, please do not say "Reinstall Windows" because that's just ridiculous and I shouldn't have to do that for a simple phone driver install. I had my Epic 4G before and that all went smoothly.
Go do something in control panel and uninstall the samsung drivers that you already have on your comp
Then try installing
But I reccomend reinstalling windows

I had the same issue with mine on xp. Uninstalled my et4g drivers and installed the gs3 drivers. After a restart, the pc finally recognized my phone as a mass storage.

And, I'm not reinstalling Windows all over again just for this phone, as I also said. But, it doesn't matter, I already got it rooted through the roommate's laptop.
EDIT: I managed to get it to work. My other half had similar problems with device drivers so just had to have me remove the phone from USB, uninstall driver and then plug the phone back in. And, it actually worked.

USB debugging mode.......

Is anybody else having problems with usb debugging mode not working? I have been trying to root with CASUAL all afternoon and I can NOT get usb debugging mode / adb mode to work. Any suggestions on what I could do to make it work?
Thanks guys/girls.

I'm having the same issue.. just bought it and this is driving me crazy! I'm i the process of removing drivers and crapware from verizon, and then figured I would try drivers direct from samsung.. I'll let you know if I have any luck.

It's absolutely crazy isn't it? Please let me know if you figure out the problem. I don't consider myself a noob about rooting/romming/etc but this is making me feel like i just started today!
EDIT:::: I finnally got my phone to connect to my moms laptop but it still wont connect to mine. I got CASUAL to recognize the phone but I'm kind of scared to do it now since my first phone connected perfect the first time and when I started having other problems and needed to send it back and usb debugging WOULD NOT work. I don't want to leave it stock but I don't want to go through what I went through with the first phone again
Ok, I finally got my phone rooted, unlocked using casual. I had to use my moms laptop ( hp, windows 7, 32 bit ) to unlock it, our desktop ( windows xp 32 bit ) to use odin and my laptop to transfer music, vidoes, etc..... Now i absolutely hate installing drivers and windows in general. You would think being 1 of the top-of-line smartphones, **** like this wouldn't be so difficult.
It seems this is a driver issue.. I still couldn't get it to work. I'm guessing that either the old GNex drivers or maybe a windows driver. I recall having a similar issue with another device and I had to go through device manager and remove certain drivers and install others.. That doesn't explain the failure I had with linux thought.. perhaps my adb is out of date??
After updating adb removing/installing various drivers in an old XP install was able to get the phone to be recognized by CASUAL, but casual would would reboot the phone to a "Downloading" recovery screen, and just hang.. CASUAL seemed to be waiting for this screen, but could'nt tell that it had it ???

Yep that's the same thing that happened on my windows xp based desktop, it would boot into download mode but it wouldn't recognize the phone. It's got to be a driver related issue though. I had similar issues with my gnex but that was nothing compared to this catastrophe.

I finally got mine done.. gave up on windows drivers and went back to linux.
I had to switch to a disto that used gksudo & dpkg in order for the CASUAL app to work properly (..my distro of choice is PCLinuxOS, but it doesn't use gksudo or dpkg).

[Q] Stuck in boot loop

Hello, usually don't have much issues with this sort of thing as I have decent experience with this.
I'm stuck on this particular issue though as my phone is in a constant boot loop. I was planning on just reflashing a ROM on to the device, but in the bootloader or recovery my pc will not detect the device at all so I am unable to run fastboot or adb commands on it. I have tried this on 3 pc's(2 Windows 8.1 and 1 Windows 7).
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.
Windows 8 & 8.1 will not work. I used the DNA toolkit on a Windows XP laptop to get my phone out of the bootloop (when you were using the Windows 7 computer, were you using the USB 2.0 port? It's been mentioned in many posts that USB 3.0 will not work). Don't use the drivers from HTC SYNC, the proper drivers are here on XDA (just Google it).
Sent from my HTC Droid DNA running KICKDROID Sense 6/4.4.2 ROM via Tapatalk
Yes it was on USB 2.0. Drivers won't do me any good if device manager won't even detect the device is plugged in to begin with. That is the issue is I have no way to flash a new ROM because I can't even get device manager to pickup that the device is plugged in on any computer.
Until I switched to a Windows XP computer, my phone wasn't recognized either, no matter how often I updated the drivers.
Sent from my HTC Droid DNA running KICKDROID Sense 6/4.4.2 ROM via Tapatalk
You can't update the drivers for a device though until it detects there is a device there. There shouldn't be any issue with Windows 7 being able to detect a DNA.
I never had an issue with this until now and now I'm just stuck in either a boot loop or going into recovery.
I would be willing to to try XP for the fun of it when I get an opportunity, but don't feel it is necessary.
If I do a factory reset from CWM Recovery I can get into Cyanogenmod and go through the initial setup steps. After that it sits at a black screen, but I can drag the notification drawer down and get into the settings. Only have a minute or two before it reboots back into a boot loop.
Surely there has to be some way to fix this...
I managed to get it to stay on. Here is what I did to transfer a new ROM over. Since all I could access on the phone was the settings I changed a locksceen slider to the Play Store and installed AirDroid. I then transferred the file over through AirDroid.
I am about to flash it now. If this installs fine and clears up the boot loop issue then I guess that issue is fixed, but that still doesn't solve the problem with my device not connecting to the PC through USB.
Okay I managed to finally get a new ROM to flash over after some issues with the ROM zip itself. It flashed and said updating apps 77/77 and restarted and its been sitting at the boot logo for 10 minutes.
Still never got it to detect USB connection on PC either.
I don't have a single clue what to do now. Am I just out of luck at this point?
Okay I know I have flooded this with messages, but I have Cyanogenmod 10.2.1 on there and it seems to be working fine. I can reboot and it goes back into Android without a boot loop from what I can tell.
USB still does not work even within Android though. Is there an issue with the hardware itself? It charges fine.

Is MTP checked or USB debugging enabled? If not you need to check them both
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using XDA Premium HD app
Yes both of them are checked.
Have you tried downloading pdanet that will reinstall adb asking with other drivers
Sent from my HTC6600LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes I have. Still should allow normal file transfer without it and also at the very least device manager should detect it. I think I am just out of luck on this. At least it can still charge.
On the Win 7 machine, are you sure that USB port is good? Sorry no one asked that simple question.
Also, have you tried cleaning your micro USB port?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Yes, like I said other devices work fine on PC and also have tried it on 4 different computers. I also cleaned the port.
NP, appreciate the response.

ADB and fastboot working on Windows 8.1

So I have been avoiding updating my laptop to 8.1 from 8.0 due to the fact that sdk doesn't play nice. Well the other day the 8.1 update was basically forced to my pc. In turn I was obviously distraught fearing I had no use of my sdk tools. Come to find out everything works fine! Adb, fastboot, everything! Needless to say I'm curious as to if there was a fix for this recently that I was unaware of or I just happen to be really lucky?! All I know is I keep my sdk up to date, and when my OS updated I reboot my computer and ran sdk manager and took any needed updates. Low and behold everything works! I hope this helps someone or just some feedback on the topic is welcome.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using XDA Free mobile app
It's working for me too! Thanks for the tip, I'd pretty much given up up on getting it to work on my 8.1 machine.
I did have to manually install the Google USB driver (which shows up as Acer Device->Android ADB Interface for some reason) but then it worked fine.
Not working for me :/
