I realize that people have different requirements for a car mount, so this one might not really be THE best, but I think it's the best I've found for me, and maybe others. Unfortunately, the manufacturer has discontinued it, and the replacement is over-engineered and simply not as good. So if you're interested, act fast. Amazon is out of them. I got mine from B&H Photo Video. You may find them elsewhere if you Google for it.

What makes this so good? Three things, basically.
Most important, it holds the phone very security, yet you can both insert and remove the phone from the mount one-handed. Having to use two-hands to insert / remove a phone from a mount always annoys me.
Second, the mount is very, very secure. It simply sticks to what you attach it to. My prior mount had a simple suction cup that wouldn't even stay mounted to clean, smooth glass for more than a week or so. The iOttie mounts use micro-suction gel sticky pad combined with a suction cup. Even without the suction it sticks remarkably well to my very textured dash. With the suction lever in use, it grips like super glue.
Third, even with a relatively heavy G3, and my stiffly suspended car, the phone moves around very little on rough pavement. My last mount vibrated so much I couldn't read it unless I positioned it so it was braced against the instrument pod.
Don't mistake the Easy One-Touch 2 for this mount. The newer version is more complex, and not nearly as solid. The phone vibrates and bounces a lot more. Also don't confuse the Easy Flex mount. While it has one-handed insertion of the phone, you'll need two hands for phone removal. Why iOttie replaced such a great design with inferior ones is a question that boggles the mind.
Also make sure you get the XL version. The standard version doesn't open quite wide enough for the G3, in spite of what the specs say. Mine is on the way back to Amazon for just that reason.
is this the mount you talkign about? http://www.ebay.com/itm/iOttie-Easy...7285?pt=US_Mounts_Holders&hash=item2a2e086035
It says in the description that its for s4/s5, can it also hold a g3? This car holder is definitely good and i might buy it if my phone fits.

I've been using this holder for more than a year (for my note 2) and it works perfectly with the G3. I agree with the OP, can't recommend it enough.
There's 2 sizes. I assume the one without XL is the smaller one.
Ok one more question, i found there are two sizes: the XL holds up to 3.5 inches and the smaller one holds up to 3 inches. Given that the G3 is 2.94 inches should i order the XL or the smaller one will fit too? Thnx in advance
The new version looks much nicer. I have the iottiexl currently and it works well, but after a year it's starting to have issues opening and closing.

I've not tried the smaller one, but the XL fits the G3 nicely, so I'd go with that to be safe.

I tried the small one first, and it's misleading. Yes, it opens to 3 inches wide, but it won't close on a phone as wide as the G3. I had to return it and get the XL version.

Yep. Checkout www.brodit.se . Really good quality and no low budget ebay solutions. They have complete car mounts with charger. I've have had one for my Pda and for my other nokia mobile phone and now I've ordered for my Htc Touch HD.

I'll add my question to this thread.
What would you guys recommend for me, considering that I often drive different types of rental cars? I checked the brodit website, but their products are made for specific car models, so it doesn't help my situation.
I have been looking at this one on ebay. Does anyone have any experience with this one? Does it stick well and is it stable? Will it only hold on glass?
I just have this fear that my HD will fall of it I hit a bump on the road.

And what about the type that clips on the air vents? How stable is that?
Here is a link to one on ebay. It also rotates 360° for portrait or landscape viewing.
UPDATE:
I bought the holder in the first picture above. You can read my review on it in Post #8 below.
I have a brodit mount. I think they are about the best ones made. They are expensive but I think that are worth it.
Many thanks all. :
REVIEW of car holder from post above
I just wanted to add my review to the first picture I posted above (holder with suction cup). But first - really quickly - as far as the second picture (holder for air vents), most of the reviews I found did not recommend it because it does not fit well on all vents, it is not stable, and it is often hard to remove from the vents.
So, now on to the suction holder from the first picture:
I got the HD holder for the car today and tested it out. I definitely like it. The suction cup sticks really well to the glass (assuming both surfaces are clean, of course). At first, I was scared that the whole thing would loosen up and fall off, and so I kept checking it constantly, but it held totally firm for the 45 minutes I was driving. Even when I went to take it off and I released the suction-lock lever, the remaining suction was still really strong.
The tray that holds the actual phone fits the HD well, and all buttons and ports are clearly accessible. I wish the phone would fit just a little tighter in the tray, but it is still fine. I never worried that it would "fall out" or anything like that. I suppose it's also good that it is not so tight that it could scratch the HD when sliding it in and out. The tray can also be easily removed and re-attached to the arm. Oh - and of course, the HD will NOT fit if you have any protective case around it (such as the silicone or hard plastic covers).
The "arm" part is easily bent and adjusted at the two joints, so you can set the HD at whatever angle you want in any direction. Once set to whatever angle, it will not loosen or bend on its own.
All-in-all, I'm very pleased with this so far and I would definitely recommend it. The user reviews I read for it on Amazon do so likewise.
I hope this helps.
Cheers!
Just throwing it out there. I recently sold my touch HD. I still have brodit car mount. If anyone wants it I'll be happy to sell it for cheap. If your local, i'll take some red bulls PM me!
BTW I love the mount. If I get any other carmount, its going to be a brodit

HOLY DASH MOUNT!! You are going to have to use street view instead of the windshield to see where you are. LOL I'm sure there will be better options soon
Hi,
I'm using one similar to that but mine's a vent mount and its pretty awesome i think. The reason I got one of these friction beasts is so that i can use it with my gps and phone. Yours seems to be better than the vent mount because it swivels. Mine doesn't swivel. But overall it works and its a very good multi tasker. I usually have it on landscape and don't use the little prongs. The foam pads are good enough to hold both my phone and gps.
I bought a cheap one from Frys for $15, it has a very similar clamping design but uses a flexible gooseneck and a suction mount. It works well, the friction mount part holds the phone well. I am not a huge fan of the gooseneck though. I cant wait to get back home and start modding on it, I think I can make it much better!

This type of mount actually blocks the charge port so you can't charge it while in the car. Kinda a deal killer because GPS uses so much power. Phone will be dead when I get to my destination.
I ordered one of those that said it had 3 clips instead of the 4 but they sent me one with 4. Then the ebay seller, lovelypriceelement, emailed me back saying that the 3 clips one doesn't exist EVEN THOUGH IT SAYS ON THE PAGE THAT THE USB PORT ISN'T BLOCKED!
Don't buy this if you want to charge in the car.

I wish I remember where i got mine. It took me 3 different ones before i found one i liked, bought them retail....just kept returning them until the 4th was the best (around $25). It has 2 clips that clip onto the vent, and a support arm between the clips that rests again the vent, doesnt move at all and the charge port is completely accessible.

If you could find out where you got that one, that would be great. Looking for a more elegant solution to mount my G1 in my car.
I've seen the vent mount one at Staples but I don't know if it would work in my car. How long are the arms that clip onto the vent. I have a Mazda 6 and my vents are like the one in the middle of this picture:

For those who have used the vent clip mount, do you think that it would mount to the vents just above the radio in that picture? When open they have a curved front and they are a bit deeper than the average vent.

So far so good... it's has this dumb photo holder (the clear plastic thing) and it came with a pic of an asian chick posed over a car! LOL!
But it's hefty, solid and not a goose neck.
Hi,
Anyone bought a good bike mount for the G3 yet? I bought the item listed here on Ebay;
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Water-Resistant-Case-with-Bike-Golf-Cart-Strap-Mount-for-LG-G3-/400728456318?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhonesCasesPouches&hash=item5d4d46fc7e
However when riding it tends to slowly drop down and move about on my handlebar's I can stop and re-tighten it but it's a pain in the arse to keep having to do that.
Ideally, Id like it to be waterproof don't really plan on using it the rain but in UK is easy to get caught out.
Any suggestions would be very helpful.
Looks like the handlebar attachment can't be tightened enough. Are you strapping it onto a metal section of your handlebars? If so the dimpling inside the plastic strap probably doesn't get any grip on the smooth metal. If you strap it over something with a bit more friction it might do better - maybe just putting a circle of tape on the handlebars to strap it over would be enough extra grip?
Other than that it looks a decent case - how much does it affect the touchscreen sensitivity?
Im using this:

Yeah you're right it just slips on the smooth metal, I did try adding some tape and padding to add friction but didn't really help unfortunately.
Touchscreen is more or less unusable tbh, swipes work okish but taps are pretty much useless. I do have a screen protector on also so that probably don't help either but it's pretty bad.

Hmm, not really a recommendation then?
I was using one that was a small bag attached to the frame&handlebar post, which at least guaranteed it would hold on well, but the viewing position isn't as good as a handlebar mount. Unfortunately, my G3 won't fit!

Have you used this? This looks like a great product, just wanting some feedback from someone who uses it.
I've been using a Ram X-mount for my phones. I had used a cheaper brand previously which ended up costing me repairs when my old smartphone feel it after hitting a pothole.
The Ram grips tightly and i recommend it.
http://www.rammount.com/part/RAP-SB-187-UN7U
I am getting the zerolemon 9000mah extended battery and invested in the bike mount made for it. The attachment to the bike is solid and attaches quickly and easily. The phone part has a generous cutout for the camera. The phone part seems like it might be a little flimsy, but it grips the phone very securely.
http://m.ebay.com/itm/400792952134?nav=SEARCH
What i want to especially mention is that it fits the extended battery, but more importantly, it also fits the Lg G3 with stock battery when in the Otterbox Defender case.
I like both mounts and would trust either on a road bicycle/motorcycle. Off road, hard to say yet, but i think the extended battery mount might be the more secure.
I've had a Proclip mount system for 8 years now, in 2 cars and with 5 phones now. The universal mount I'd had lasted through an iPhone 3GS, a Galaxy S2, a Nexus 4 and the Nexus 5. Unfortunately it couldn't accommodate the N6, so I purchased on of their larger ones which arrived today. It's pictured here with a naked N6, but will also work with the Spigen case I should be receiving Monday.
This is the one I bought --> http://goo.gl/tA2buI

Thanks for the heads up. I was just thinking about this. I have the smaller universal mount, and it does fit with my Spigen Neo Hybrid, but JUST barely! I plan on getting a beefier case, so I need to get a bigger universal mount.
Thanks!

Be sure to check out some of their other large(r) universal mounts. They have some that'll accommodate larger cases.
Thanks for the heads up. I am in the same boat as you were in. Love the proclip and its worked on the last 3 phones I have had but N6 is just to wide for it.
I read on another thread that they are releasing a N6 specific model but would much rather just get this instead of waiting 2-3 months for it to come out.
Never had an proclip, could somebody explain how they work? I see on their site they have custom dash mounts for specific cars but can't figure out how the phone mount fits to the dash mount. Also, can it be easily taken out with 1 hand once all set up?
The phone mount screws into the car mount. I have also used their mounts for years but always the phone specific model that's hard wired. I like that it just pop out in and it charges no cord to plug in before I put it in the holder.
So it's is a 1 handed operation? I like the ram X mount but needing to use 2 hands is a drawback.
I have a universal phone mount attached to a car mount that attaches to the a-pillar of my driver's side. its easy one-handed to pop my phone in or out. Here are stock pictures of what I use:
I bought the proclip for my Garmin a few years back. It is awesome. Might have to look at one for my N6.

Its basically 2 parts. The car specific mount and then the phone mount. If you switch phones you can just get a new phone mount witch screws to your already in place car mount.
They are a bit more expensive but are rock solid and the mounts are custom designed for each car model.
If you switch holders from car to car like I do, their locking move clip system is awesome http://www.proclipusa.com/accessories/locking-move-clips/locking-move-clip-accessories.aspx
I had the same problem - long time ProClip user whose universal mount used for the Nexus 5 wasn't big enough to hold the new Nexus 6. I just took the holster apart, removed the swivel component that limits how wide the holster arms can expand, stuck it back with super glue, filed the edges and put it all back together. It works
They are running a sale right now too. Trying to decide if I should get the universal one or the Note 4 holder. N6 holder doesn't sound like it will be out for at least another month.

So with the universal mounts you don't get forward/backward movement of the phone? Do the sides squeeze enough to hold it in place or something even though the phone may be thinner than the slot in the mount?

There is a little bit of movement (all of my phones have had some in their universal mounts), but it's still held firmly and doesn't move on it's own. With my Spigen Perfect-fit case it's actually a great fit.
I've always used the device specific ones that have an integrated charging cable. What do you folks do to handle charging in the car?

I don't have the phone, the mount, or the charger, so, no.
But according to the specs of all three, there is enough room. However, there may be a problem with the diameter of the charger. It may be slightly too large for the prongs of the mount to close all the way. That could probably be fixed by putting a little padding on the prongs, though.
Retails here for ~65USD.

Disclaimer: I was not paid for this review. I did not get this for free but I did get a little discount from a coupon code I had lol.
I was in the the market for a wireless car charger. I have had one in the past, but the location of my Nexus 6 coil was too located to low for it. So my quest to get the perfect one was on! Upon reviews and forums, I was looking at both the iottie and TYLT wireless car chargers. I was initially leaning towards the TYLT one, but the proprietary plug was the deal breaker for me. I didnt need yet another different cable running in my truck. I already have my cool flux capacitor cig charger in place and would hate to lose it! In any case, I then moved my research to the iottie ones. I have heard decent things and first looked at the iottie flex wireless car charger. This looked like the one! But, I saw there were two versions. The flex and the one touch one. What geared me towards the one Easy One Touch version was that of the many MANY ways you can angle and telescope the mount to view your phone. Being having a heavy and big Nexus 6, I liked the various sizes it can accommodate.
When receiving it, I played with all the various gears and levers and screws and found that that this was very well thought out. However, I cant figure out why they put the suction lever to activate the suction cup was underneath the main arm. But its out of the way so thats one thing I guess. The suction cup is clear but has that SUPER suction adhesive that you can rinse off to reconsitute the adhesive, similar to the airdock mounts and various other iottie products use. This sucker is strong! The charger comes with a plate that has more of this sticky suction cups but I already have one mounted so I used that one. Good back up though.
Another fantastic thing is how you insert and remove the phone from the charger. This is the first mount I have ever used that when you put in the phone to charge, you slide it into the back button that snaps the sides in and will lock into place when stops. Awesome. And to remove, simply cup your hand like you are to remove the device and press the two button/levers on the side and pinch together to release into your hand. No issue at all. I am using a Spigen Ultra hybrid case and the Nexus 6 JUST BARELY FITS to lock into place. With the adjustable chin, it is just perfect.
Oh was it a proprietary cable? NOPE, good ol micro usb! Love it even more!

I have the iOttie One Touch XL and I love it, but now that I have a Supcase Bettle case on it, it barely fits anymore. I measured my phone with the case on it and is now 3.5" wide. The one you reviewed lists as 3.3" wide. Do you have your phone in a case? If so, which one and do you have any issues getting it to fit?

I have the Spigen Ultra hybrid in gunmetal and it just fits. And no issues getting it in and out. And stays sturdy. I did say so in the review. I had to re-read it lol.
Thanks for the quick reply. Might have to reconsider this one if it BARELY fits. Probably just like how it fits into my iOttie XL mount right now.

Have you tried the iOttie Easy Flex Wireless one?

Looks like it closes to the max of 3.5 inches where the XL fits to 3.3.
I don't know, the problem with the Easy Flex Wireless is that the mount is so short, so hanging it off the windshield might make it hard to reach.
