Hi guys,
searched around a bit but cant find the answer here.
I have the Free version of Greenify running it unrooted mode just now on my LG G3 - such a great app.
The issue i have is Facebook and Messenger sitting in the "will hibernate in minutes after screen is off" - this however doesnt happen all the time, when i click the info it says i have to manually hibernate them - sometimes however the screen turns on and closed these to apps.
What do i need to get Facebook and the associated messenger app to auto hibernate?
Do i need the Donate version or just Root my device?
Thank you to anyone who can get me on the right track here.

Hey guys, I asked over in the Greenify thread but they sent me here.
I would have liked to Greenify Facebook Messenger and still get push notifications, but I use ART so I can't install XPosed, which is required for that functionality.
I asked if there was any way to accomplish this and someone said:
You might be able to use autoruns or autorun manager and try to cut off its receivers, I am not really sure if those would be effective wrt FB, but one can try,

I have no idea what this means or where to start - can anybody help point me in the right direction?
Well, i have observed it with Facebook Messenger and Viber, should be the same issue with other greenified applications
The GCM push works fine, but the problem is, that the notification won't be visible till i actually open or unlock my screen
That said, i can see that the application has been woken by a push( seconds or minutes before i get the notification) but you can't see it till you actually open the phone so the application opens in foreground.
I am almost definitely sure this used to work at KitKat normally
I have tested this using Greenify beta(the latest) with the xposed-alpha 14-05 on OnePlus One

I can confirm this too! @oasisfeng you should definitely look into this issue.I've tried it on my two devices running 5.0.2 and 5.1.1 respectively. The notification doesn't come through until I wakeup the screen. The app is waken up but the notification doesn't arrive until I turn on the screen.
Removing the app from greenified list fixes the issue.

Well sometimes, after a random amount of time it may appear.. But the randomness is what troubles me as well..
@oasisfeng Can confirm this. Unless I turn on the screen manually, I don't hear the notification chime. And yes, it did work fine in KitKat.
Have same issue, no notification with Facebook and Messenger.
I get the when screen turns on, but not instantly...after a while.
Any fix?

Same here, but also without greenify. I switched to a new ROM and phone. So perhaps it is ROM related.

Hi again, I have managed to get it work again. I degreenified all apps, deselected everything under experimentally features. After a reboot I ticked off my normal feature set. And voila I'm getting gcm messages again! I guess I messed something up by using titanium...
BTW I'm using cm 12.1 optimized on a S4

Can you be more precise in what you've done?
For now I've made an app with Tasker that closes Facebook and Messenger and then Greenify all my app list and then locks system, so to not put Facebook and Messenger on Greenify and have push messages, but don't constantly have them on Active Apps last if used.
If you want I can share it.

OK. I'll try to explain a bit more precisely.
My issue was, that e.g. whatsapp does not receive messages while greenified. I had to start it manually to see if I got new messages.
This started a few days ago with my new phone. Before the new phone I had no problems with greenify in combination with cm12.1.
Here my steps:
1. Remove all Apps from greenify
2. Remove all options from experimental features
3. Restart the phone
4. Select all apps that I want to greenify
5. Reselect my normal options under experimental options.
That's it
Regards
Unfortunately this didn't work for me. But I tried something else that might be helpful. I use Amplify and decided to disable it temporarily to see if I received the GCM push and the notifications, and yes, it did work flawlessly. I might have stopped a wakelock or a service being of google that might be helpful in this.
same issues, then went to settings security device administrators checked greenify now i get push notifications when screens off

Well, it didn't help much. I tried flashing all the ROMs available for S3 and it works, partially, in the latest BlissPop. The thing is that GCM push gets received instantaneously but the notification doesn't get posted. It does though, like after 30 mins or so. But never soon enough.
any news why GCM doesnt work proberly anymore with some apps like WhatsApp ? It used to work so i wonder if this a ROM, App, Xposed or Greenify problem.
About 6-8 weeks ago i had this working with CM12.1 on a GT-I9505 (Galaxy S4) with at that time actual apps, modules and ROM.
I have been using Greenify for quite some time on a rooted HTC M8 without issue, and I very much like the software and its associated battery savings (I contributed to the donation mode as soon as it appeared). Recently I updated my phone to the LG G4 and was pleased to learn that Greenify would work without root as there is not a reliable root method available for this phone.
My only issue with greenify has been that intermittently (from several times a day to once every couple days) the home screen wallpaper is replaced with the apps property window of one of the apps which is being greenified (see attached screen capture). The phone functions normally otherwise, and when I restart the phone the normal background is back.
Phone Specifics:
Sprint LG G4 LGLS991 (NO ROOT)
Android 5.1
Kernel 3.10.49
Greenify version 2.6.2
Experimental Settings
Working Mode: Non-root
Automated Hibernationn
Greenifying System Apps (limited)n
rest of experimental settings are off
Any advice to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated
Thank You
Keith Kronemer
I'm sorry I can't offer any help but I have exactly the same issue on an non-rooted, Verizon LG G4 Android 5.1 phone.
I assume I have some settings wrong but I just don't know what they could be.
I have Greenify 2.71 and Greenify (Donation Package) 2.3; if that helps.
Your screen cap (original post above) is exactly what I see, 2 to 3 times per day and, like you, a phone restart returns it to normal operation until next time.
Thanks,
Gerry E.
LG G4 and Greenify
When Greenify locks the screen on my LG G4 I cannot open screen with a double tap, like I was able to in the past, I have to push the power button to be able to use my phone. I have Android 6.0, Greenify 4.1, non-rooted. Tried disabling Auto hibernation for manual, same problem. Have donation package (But can't find icon) . Love Greenify, used to work great but have to fix this problem. Please help.

Hello guys, I have a problem with the Facebook and Messenger app, they don't hibernate even if I manually hibernate them.
I tried cutting off the wakelock path, ignoring running state and enabling deep hibernation, but even after that I open the app to find them in the "will hibernate when screen is off" section. They've been draining my battery crazily!
Any other suggestions to do?
Same here. I think a recent Messenger update somehow changed something that prevents Greenify from hibernating it. I am using Lolliop via CM 12.1 Nighly (the very last one before CM 13).
I thought so too and rolled back to some older version, still the same problem with no luck. It's extremely frustrating.
Having the same problem here after their latest update.
Same problem, I mean I only lost like 4% over 5 hours but it should be a lot less, it was Facebook and messenger in my partial wakelocks
I used amplify to limit the wakelocks by them, the wakelock is called bugreporter and so far it hasn't affected notifications, and now they don't keep the device awake anymore.
You can also download older versions which didn't cause the issue here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64816556&postcount=28
so any news about this yet?

What about the post above yours? That not sufficient for you?
Same here, gets woken by LollipopSerivce and stays up for hours until I manually killed it with "put in to hibernation now"
details:
CM13 nightly 20160116
Xposed 79,
Greenify 2.8 beta 9
Same with me, i uninstalled FB but i need messenger for chatting
Also the persistant notification from Messenger seems to prevent it from sleeping (Sequence : Messenger is hibernating, I receive a GCM push that wake him up but then it keep being "up" if i don't throw away the pop-up....). Or maybe i'm totally wrong dunno
CM13
Xposed
Greenify Beta 9
Same problem
Same here, really frustrating.
Same here, I came here to look if there's anyone else with this problem.
I don't want to install amplify just for fb and msn.

Workaround
This may be a workaround for now but this is what I did: I tapped on Facebook to highlight it. I then tapped the three-dot menu and selected "Put into hibernation now". A popup then showed-up warning of possible data loss or functionality problems. There is a checkbox in the popup for "Always ignore app state". I ticked it and continued. I did the same procedure for Messenger.
They usually get rid of this trick
With Amplify it's ok.. no more drain from messenger..
SAme problem, back to 2.8 and it´s working

Dump the horrible facebook app and work through the FB web site instead. Or give Hermit a whirl to speed things up even further.

Hi,
Greenify randomly makes the alarms not working and some push notifications of the apps even though they aren't greenified,so what can I do to fix that ?
you´re f***, there´s some problem with samsung and the rom gets screwed installing greenify, and the developer doesn´t answer anyone about this. im s6 stock and after installed greenify the phone goes totally muted, until open app the message doesnt arrives.

Err...then don't use Greenify on this device. I can see why the dev doesn't respond
no one has advised that problem on samsung phones... then must be blocked samsung devices on play store or created a advise on that.
if a developer creates a app and doesnt answer to the users...
