[Q] Loki...??? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hi All...
I am currently running my SCH-i545 on 'NC5" using Hyperdrive RLS 18.0 with SS 3.72.
I like the rom and everything runs nicely, however, I would like to give GooglePlayEdition a spin.
The installation calls for a 'loki doki' flash?? Can someone please tell me if I have to 'Odin' back-to-stock or do I uninstall SS 3.72, reboot to recovery and flash 'loki doki'?
If someone can help me out, I would appreciate it.
Thanks all....

Loki is a kernel exploit for the mdk bootloader that allows the boot loader to be unlocked. NC5 is as of yet, still locked down. Loki does not work on our device. It seems gogolie has come up with a process to flash GPE Roms which you can find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2734775. This also may work http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ow-to-install-aosp-s4-google-edition-t2817708. I have not tried either so I can't offer any advice other than read the entire thread CAREFULLY. In the future, if a ROM needs loki, it isn't for us. Neither are AOSP Roms.

[Q] Confused, ME7 Safestrap?

Hi all,
So my question is a pretty basic one, but obvious answer doesn't seem to be logical.
I just rooted my Verizon GS4 ME7, and installed SafeStrap 3.6x build, successfully, root achieved.
Now, my question is, I've tried installing the ROMs from other devs that state that they are TWRP compatible (because SS is TWRP based), yet none of them have booted successfully. So, if the problem exists because of a lack of compatibility (for a reason I'm not fully understanding), what is the point of having SS without any ROMs being compatible?
I'm willing to help a dev with coding or something to fix the problem, but idk what to look for or why this is happening?.
HELP!
Thanks!

Just because its twrp compatible doesnt mean its SS compatible. Any rom that doesnt use the TW kernel wont work, so aosp roms are out of the question. What roms are you trying to install and stupid question, did you follow the install procedure outlined in the SS thread.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.

So I guess that makes sense. I did follow the procedure outlined in the thread; to the T. I just tried the PACman ROM, SlimBut what are some roms that DO use the TW kernel? Because as far as I can tell, the only ROM that successfully flashes thus far is the HYPERDRIVE ROM, which is stock minus the bloatware and adding a few tweaks.

Flashing roms on mj7/mdk safestrap

Is the only way right now to flash a rom is to delete all data in stock slot on ss then flash a compatible rom? I dont want to have to lose my data to do this.

Officially there is no way to flash a custom ROM on MJ7. Unofficially i have heard of some people doing this, but i HIGHLY DONT RECOMMEND IT! This is because if you screw something up there is a high chance of bricking. For now i would advise you to wait until Hashcode has ported safestrap over to MJ7.

Well it's just that Safestrap for 4.3 is in beta right now. It is risky and unless you don't care if you brick the phone or are really experienced I would wait it out.

I agree...unless you don't need your phone or like to reflash and do Odin...its beta and hashcode does his development step by step. Loading Roms and having issues with a beta release won't speed the process. Pay attention to what hashcode wants...I'm just saying
powered by hashcode safestrap hyperdrive 10.2
MJ7
Safestrap 3.71 is working with safestrap and RLS 11& RLS12 is working flawlessly. I have it in slot 2 on my S4. I highly reccommend flashing only stock kernel with installer then installing MJ7 patch before initial boot then changing kernel if need be.
Let me know if this helps!
Mj7 build can be found at this link!!

I just got done about 2 days ago with moving to mj7 via the non wipe Odin file, then OTA'd to mk2, rooted with the safe root process, installed safe strap 3.71, installed HD12 and moved it to the stock side.
I gotta say I'm definitely impressed with HD12 and how smooth it is.

I'm currently running Safestrap v3.71 with latest Hyperdrive ROM. So far it has been running smooth error free
Safestrap galaxy s3 4.3 verizon ml1?

MDK & 4.4.2 question

Greetings,
I have an S4 with MDK and it is currently running a Hyperdrive ROM. I want to upgrade it to a KK ROM of some flavor. I put SS on, thinking I would need it, but it looks like SS makes it more difficult? I believe that because the bootloader is locked, I can't just install a plain version of TWRP, correct?
So, for those with MDK who are now running KK, what did you do, what did you use, and in what order?
Thank you!

So if you're on MDK with a custom rom then what recovery are you using?
The MDK bootloader has a loki exploit so you can just use a loki'd version of TWRP or CWM to flash any 4.4 rom. Find them in the original android development section

If you are still on MDK the go to this section http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/orig-development and look for a 4.4 you would like. I believe Sbreen has a 4.4 of Hyperdrive in the works right now so if you like Hyperdrive, wait maybe if you want to?
Your post confuses me a little. If you updated the phone off of MDK and now on another baseband now then you will have to use SS and follow the instructions on how to go to 4.4 and back to 4.2 if you have to. Here is a link if you are on NC2/MK2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2726868.
If you have NC2/MK2/MI1/ME7 then you CAN NOT have a Custom Recovery like TWRP or CWM. You will have to use SS and go from there.

How can I upgrade to KitKat with an MDK bootloader?

I feel like I'm missing something obvious here. I've tried a couple of times to load a KK ROM on my S4 with MDK. I've tried Hyperdrive and a few others. No matter what I do, I can't get Bluetooth to function after installing the KK ROM. I've tried updating the radios and that hasn't helped either.
I'd be willing to give up MDK but I don't know anything about flashing with SS/Odin so I was hoping to stay on MDK so I can use TWRP. Could that be the problem? Thanks for any guidance, I really appreciate it.

How many Touchwiz ROMs have you tried?, And have you tried any AOSP ROMs like CM or Slim?
I wouldn't give up your MDK!!
I'd try a couple more roms and then if that doesn't fix it use Odin and start over with stock MDK and root .. custom recovery it.
Also... Try flashing KToonsez kernel along with whatever TW ROMs your into and see if that helps.

I tried (besides Hyperdrive):
TW 4.4.2 Stock Verizon I545VRUFNC5 For MDK BootLoader - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2721118
ChaosROM-VZW-V2.6-NCx-4.4.2-SS-MDK-MULTI-THEMED-SUPER FAST-A NEW LEVEL OF SHARP - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799899
I didn't try any AOSP roms, I guess I could try CM. I can just flash it with TWRP right?
I also tried using the KToonsez kernel that came with Hyperdrive 17. I guess I'll try starting from scratch again if CM doesn't work, could you point me in the right direction for using Odin to return to stock? Thanks for your help.

And yes just flash any AOSP ROM + Gapps in recovery after wiping your current ROM. Most ROMs have all the directions with links right in the OP.

[Q] ROM recovery / SS install - verizon I545vrufng6

Hello all,
I've rooted several phones in the past, but have been having more trouble with my verizon galaxy s4 than I have with the rest. Not so much with the processes themselves, those were easy, but with feeling comfortable with the guides I am using since there are so many different builds and versions.
I had stock NG6, I felt comfortable and succeeded in rooting using the kernel flash and downgrade method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/general/how-to-root-i545vrufng6-t2905848).
Now I'm looking to get a ROM backup of my current config (reflashed to NG6) or a stock ROM i can flash. I downloaded the ROM Manager CWM offers in the playstore, but when I ran it after install it requires a custom recovery, as per usual. I say "OK" and I end up with the following:
SAMSUNG
Samsung Galaxy S4 (Verizon)
jfltevzw
UNSUPPORTED DEVICE
Device not Listed Above
Click here if your device is not shown in the list above.
I was a little worried about the jfltevzw under the first option, since I was unable to find anything in the various information my phone tells me (build, kernel, etc) that matches that string.
Normally I never post unless I truly can't find anything... but I've spent about 2 hours looking through stickies and instructions here and on other sites for creating a recovery and installing SS/CyanogenMod, and I haven't had any luck. I've rooted quite a few devices and I use this forum as my go-to, so I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction?
dev info:
Carrier: verizon
model: I545
droid ver: 4.4.2
kernel: 3.4.0
baseband: I545VRUFNG6
status: rooted (from NG6 via flash to NC5 -> root w/ towelroot -> flash NG6)
any help is appreciated!
Thanks!
As of right now you can't install AOSP roms
Safestrap is the Only recovery you can use. No CWM, TWRP Or cyanogen or any other AOSP Roms. Look for the threads about safestrap with your ng6 . And Roms that work with safestrap. Hyper drive is a good one, along with several others.
Oh. And extremely limited for kernels.

OK. Will do, thanks!
Do you think it might be good to flash NC5 and stay there even though my phone was stock NG6? Not like I'm really concerned with the new stock features.
edit: the only thing bothering me so far rooting with the method i used is I haven't had any random reboots... some people were reporting upwards of 30/day and I haven't had a problem in ~4 hours. Seems inconsistent ><
I've been trying to install SS via flashing the NC5 first then installing, but I'm having a lot of crash/reboots attempting to get anything going on my phone.
there a version of SS that can be installed on NG6?
No different kernel, it won't install

You will need to Odin back to NC5 using the full wipe .tar then use the rooting method at the bottom of this OP in order for the safestrap app to work correctly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/general/how-to-root-i545vrufng6-t2905848
