Help with installing TWRP Recovery - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hello Good People,
My Z Ultra arrived and it was already rooted from the previous owner.
I booted up into TWRP and couldn’t do a backup because it would not display completely on the screen, so I couldn’t select an features.
I had to reboot the device by holding the power button and the volume up key.
Sadly I can no longer access recovery.
I have holding the volume up button will reboot but it simply takes me to the desktop(normal boot)
I have rooted all my devices but this Z Ultra seems a bit more complicated than others.
Can some please walk me through the steps of exactly what files are needed to get me recovery back.
Also I have the TWRP Manager.app, can I choose a file can do it that way? if so which file name do I pick from the long list?
T.I.A.

I thought I resolved my issue by downloading:
ZU-lockeddualrecovery2.7.154-BETA.installer.zip
Option 1
And it reinstalled TWRP!
Device rebooted into TWRP, I created a background and rebooted the device.
Now I cannot boot/reboot into Recovery again;(
Someone said to press the up/down button a couple of times when you see the pink LED. I dont get a pink LED it goes straight to green.
Can someone please tell me what to do?
T.I.A.

The recovery may still be installed.
Turn off the device, when you see the Sony logo and the green light, hold the "volume up" button.
You should boot to recovery.
Another option is to install Xposed and the Wanam module. Then activate the Power Options menu, which allows you to reboot to recovery.

Thanks for the response.
I was able to get into recovery, and do a backup.
After the backup the phone will not reboot. It has been hours now and no button combo will get it to boot up
Need serious help please

Did you back up your TA initially? You might need to reflash to stock and start again using flashtool and the necessary ftf file.
I would recommended this. It was what helped me start off on my XZU.: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569904

Yes, got it resolved.
It must have been a battery related issue during the flashing.
In the end combined with a hard reset got the device back up and running.
I lost my root and everything so now I need to locate a ROM for this Sony version.
Thanks!

Ndrutil on the Play Store is an easy way to boot from the rom into recovery also..

Help unbrick TFP (looks like opt 3) please

Hello,
about 2 hours ago I decided that I would unlock my device (before that I read maximum informations that I could). Unlocking went fine and I also installed TWRP 2.1.3 (through ViperMod). So far so good.
Then I made backup in TWRP in case something goes wrong. I was going to try AOKP v40 so I downloaded it via goo manager and then I flashed it in TWRP Install option (and also installed gapps) and wiped cache. Device rebooted and I was stuck at AOKP boot animation for about 15 minutes when I decided to recover back. So I rebooted, restored and rebooted.
Now I'm stuck at first boot logo (eee pad). When I try to do VolDown+Power to get into recovery it doesn't ask for VolUp, but goes straight to selection of Wipe or USB. When I select fastboot or wait 10 secs device frozes. (I haven't tried wipe, just in case it would be needed to unbrick).
I read thread about unbricking (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514088) and to me it seems like option 3, but I don't see recovery option.
In device manager I have 'ASUS Fastboot Interface'.
Here's video how it looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BGd1PIVbn8
Please please could anyone help me?
Btw: Is there any chance to shut down? Holding power button just resets, so does pinhole... :/

Shouldn't it be volume and power down to get to the option to press volume up for recovery?
Are you familiar with fastboot flashing recoveries? Either way that will be helpful info for us to have.
Most important thing, this is no big deal at all, it's really a minor issue. Don't let yourself get stressed out over it, the community will make sure you're good to go.

Nope, this is my first time flashing.
You say you dont see the VOL_UP message. From the video it looks like it is there. You just did not press it within 5 seconds.
Once it comes up, let go of the buttons ;p

nope it's not there. I was holding voldown from the start and as soon as it should say 'press volup for recovery' (time 0:04) it jumps (skips 5 seconds of waiting) directly to wipe/fastboot options (wipe is one that is selected on video)
Ok so I managed to fix my problem thanks to hanzo001's thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662158). Someone should add this instructions to the [HOW-TO] Unbrick your Transformer Prime (or not) thread.

[Q] ONE Max stuck on "HTC ONE" screen...

I was doing a backup with TWRP and everything seemed to go just fine. Then after a reboot i unlocked the phone to notice that it was leaving the lock-screen icons on the bottom of the page. I still had access to my notification bar and could clear notifications. Figuring that there had just been a mistake in the boot process, I held the power button to restart the phone. Well it never brought up my power menu to restart. Also instead of making me wait ten seconds until it flashed its lights and restarted, it just restarted in like 3 seconds. Now my phone is stuck on the HTC ONE screen and will not respond to anything including hold the power button.
My phone is rooted an s-off. I know that I have not posted at all on here, but I have been rooting and know how at least the basics on adb shell. I just have never had a phone lock up to this point. If I can at least get to recovery, I should have 2 or 3 backups to run. I just don't want to have to wait for the phone battery to die just to hope I can get to recovery.

Are you saying volume up + power button does not restart your phone nor does any help? Check if your phone is detected in computer and if so you can issue and adb reboot command
also since there is no removable battery HTC added a reboot function press home vol down and power that should do the trick
The phone is not detected by a computer, nor will it charge. Vol down and power is not cutting it off. Right now I am waiting for the battery to die so I can hopefully boot into recovery and do a restore.
Vol up + Power was the key. I was thinking it was volume down. Thanks for all your help

:victory::victory::victory:
Just wanted to point out I ran into this issue also (Stuck on white HTC boot screen) after wiping my ROM and Vol UP + Power did the trick for me also (and then Vol Down + Power to get back to the bootloader).
i need help, guys
so attempting to install a new rom, i must have dont something wrong because now restarting the phone will leave me on the htc logo loop and restart. i still have access to hboot and fastboot. but when attempting to load into twrp, it shows the team win logo for half a second and then restarts the phone. then i installed cwm and it does boot into it but whatever option i pick, install zip, wipe data, ANYTHING, restarts the phone.
i have no idea what to do. i tried installing a rom using adb sideload but it stops at around 80%, ive tried installing different versions of twrp and cwm and same thing. i think it is bricked. im using the verizon htc one max. the only option i see left is the ruu toolkit but ive only been able to find the sprint version and then it says that bootloader needs to be locked and i have not idea how to do that from hboot, fastboot, or cwm
attempting to install superuser also fails
if there's anyone here that can help, please, any suggestions will be appreciated. thanks =
Sounds like you're flashing the wrong TWRP.

May I suggest following these instructions?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51753483&postcount=129
If you're able to complete those instructions outlined in that post, this should set you up with the latest HBOOT, Radio and TWRP (Recovery) for the Verizon HTC One.
Make sure you read the post fully before you start, especially this part:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip (Be sure it finishes saying 'successful', not 'please flush again immediately'. If it says the flush again, rerun the command)
If you succeed in getting that done, see if TWRP still causes the phone to reboot and get back to us.

[Q] Bricked

Hi, don't think this is the place to be asking, but can someone point me in the right direction.
Have locked up / bricked my HTC One max.
Had previously;
- dev-unlocked via htc site,
- flashed cwm recovery via adb,
- backed-up via cwm,
- flashed nusense rom via cwm.
was running all good for a few weeks, although had lost root.
manually re-rooted flashing superuser.zip via cwm and got root back working fine.
made another cwm recovery backup.
installed xposed framework (got working via soft reboot), updated sense toolbox via xposed installer, rebooted working fine.
installed gravitybox via xposed installer. then on a soft reset its locked up (black screen, not responding, red charging led stays on when power is unplugged).
can't get to recovery via vol/power buttons.
can't see device via adb devices.
Would be removing the battery at this point on my HTC DHD but thats not happening here.
bit screwed at the moment, can anyone help?

Are you sure your phone is charged. If so try this. Hold both vol u and d and power. the button at bottom should start flashing. Then quickly vol d and power. The vol u and d will or should restart phone.

Bo' Selecta! It lives!
Took several attempts; home/back just flashed on a few tries & didn't go to recovery. But eventually it reset & booted up fully
Guess I`ll go remove the GravityBox module then.

Just so you know for future reference, exposed drops an exposeddisabler.zip file onto your sd card when installed. It's there for just this very thing. Should it happen again hold those buttons and the second it reboots press volume down and then boot to your recovery and flash the disable zip. Your phone will boot up with xposed disabled and everything else as is.

[Q] Unusual Booting

Started out with Z4, updated to Z8. I tried this with TWRP installed after making both EFS backup and regular nandroid backup, installed fine. I made sure to use the recommended partition zips. Here's the ROM I used. However after turning my phone off it will turn on into safe mode (lollipop) in limited, seemingly random instances. I have yet to access recovery. However, the one part I know that I screwed up is I installed xposed (forgot to install the xposed helper), so I receive unlimited errors for that and can't do anything.
I've tried rebooting my phone normally, rebooting into recovery, and cutting all of my losses and flashing back to stock. Any advice? I'm trying to follow the directions here to revert back to stock, but my computer will only recognize an unrecognized device.
Thanks for the help!
Flash the rom labeled "BarePop_TE_V1 " it has the files need to fix your issues (make sure to thank @engine95). Heres the link to the rom it is pretty much a debloated version of that lollipop rom you were running:http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/development/barepop-zv8-t3035551
That reboot problem you are having is because of a bug with the stock rom so just flash that one to fix everything.
I appreciate the help, however my main problem still lies with the fact that I can't access recovery. I've gotten it to where I can reboot normally (albeit I still can't do anything due to the constant errors), but holding pwr+vol down and then letting go and reclicking those once the lg sign comes up won't let me into recovery. Do you have any advice for that? Thanks again for the help!

I've had similar issues in the past trying to boot into recovery and the method you said (vol down+power then let go and press again when LG logo comes up) also wouldn't work for me. Have you tried just holding it down and not letting it go until you see "Recovery Mode"? That actually worked for me.

I don't know why it worked this time... but it worked on my second attempt! I have access! Only issue is the touchscreen is messed up on the ROM, but it works!
With all of these issues you may want to flashtool back to ZV4 and reroot or ZV8 your call.

Not to be redundant, but my understanding is the only way it will go into recovery from full off is to keep holding power+vol down until you see "recovery mode", if you let up on the buttons before you see recovery mode it will simply reboot.
When rooting an ATT G3 I could not for the life of me get it to boot into recovery using the button combo, instead I just used adb reboot recovery instead, worked every time, to this day the guy can only reboot to recovery from within rom, gonna suck if he gets soft bricked.. My Sprint G# holding the buttons works like a charm
When I want to boot into recpvery I always have to do volume + power up until the lg logo comes up then let go and press them again. Then I have to press the factory reset button and click yes. For me and I guess others when you hold volume + powerdown you just end up going into safe mode. If you end up always having problem just download a app that can make your phone reboot itself or download terminal and run:
su
reboot recovery
That always works because it is built into the phone.

What to do in case of bootloop

Hi. So I have a noobish question
This may sound very stupid, but this is actually the first time I've owned a phone with non-removable battery, so I just wanted to know what would I do if I ever got stuck in a bootloop? With my previous device, I could just remove the battery and put it back in then boot into recovery. Obviously can't do that now. So how do I turn the phone off, or enter recovery?
Anyone?
You can enter the recovery whenever you want by pressing the on/off button and the down volume button for about 10 seconds. When the Oneplus logo is on the screen release the on/off button but keep the down volume button pressed.
It works, I had a bootloop and fixed it by flashing the rom via twrp

Sorry, I got a little confused
Just to be clear, here's what I understood from what you said - Consider I turn my phone on and its stuck in a bootloop. What do I do then? Hold the power and vol down buttons? That will boot the recovery, even while the device is stuck in bootloop with the oneplus logo continuously showing?
Did I get it right?

I'm sorry I'm not English I may be unclear.
But yes, when you got the logo continuously showing, press the two buttons I said and it will reboot the phone, but you have to release only the on/off button when the oneplus logo will appear right after the beginning of the reboot. If you keep pressing the down volume button it will go to recovery
Have you got a oneplus x already ? You can try it right now, when your phone is awake. It's the same method as in a bootloop.

So I tried what you said, didn't exactly work When the phone was awake, did power+vol down. That just caused it to take a screenshot.
However, when I held down just the power button, the phone turned off. Then I had to turn it on by holding the power button. I did the same thing (holding down power button) while the phone was booting, it worked even then, and the phone again turned off.
So at least I can get into recovery now in case of bootloop. I just need to hold the power button till phone turns off, then boot into recovery using power+vol down combination.
Anyways, thanks for the help

I have the same thing.
Yesterday, I got my OPX and installed TWRP 2.8.7.0 and superSU. AFter using the phone all day, I rebooted and it is now saying in TWRP "no operating system".
I tried to flash the 2.1 full ROM and I get an error in both TWRP or in Stock recovery.
I need a way to get my system booted again and do a full reset. Any suggestions?

You can try a different twrp. There's 2 builds for our device. One is from the twrp thread itself, the other is available in the blu_spark kernel thread.

Anyone?

hi chennai
thk u for ur answer
I tried the manipulation with the power button and the volume down but the reboot is too fast to enter bootloader
Indeed, my phone was under oos3.x and wanted to move to cyanogen ... but once the OEM Unlocked I tried to install TWRP, and that's when it is set to reboot systematically

u cannot flash official twrp while u r on oos 3.1.x.. ur bootloader is upgraded since official twrp will not work in oos3.. instead use twrp by bluespark v41 links given below.
http://get.xda-developers.com/dl/1/....img?key=THqXvgTln_65-ZHktWD9Lg&ts=1477298286
Go to fastboot mode flash this recovery, now u can able to boot into recovery. use latest cyanogen nightlies.

Hi thank you for your return, but your link doesn't work!
For fastboot, unfortunately I can't access it because the phone restarts automatically so it doesn't work with on and volume down buttons and it doesn't work either with a computer.... Any other advise :'(

I think u r doing it wrong, if u press power and vol down it ll go to recovery mode which is probably corrupted now in your case... Thats y phone gets restarted again and again.
Try this... Swt of ur phone completly hold the volume up button and power button... Press vol up first and while holding it press power buttom.. This ll take u to fastboot screen...
For the link my bad... Use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=20236 go to this page and download this recovey
Flash this recovery while u r in fastboot mode... If u need further assistance for in fastboot mode feel free to ask
