Started out with Z4, updated to Z8. I tried this with TWRP installed after making both EFS backup and regular nandroid backup, installed fine. I made sure to use the recommended partition zips. Here's the ROM I used. However after turning my phone off it will turn on into safe mode (lollipop) in limited, seemingly random instances. I have yet to access recovery. However, the one part I know that I screwed up is I installed xposed (forgot to install the xposed helper), so I receive unlimited errors for that and can't do anything.
I've tried rebooting my phone normally, rebooting into recovery, and cutting all of my losses and flashing back to stock. Any advice? I'm trying to follow the directions here to revert back to stock, but my computer will only recognize an unrecognized device.
Thanks for the help!
Flash the rom labeled "BarePop_TE_V1 " it has the files need to fix your issues (make sure to thank @engine95). Heres the link to the rom it is pretty much a debloated version of that lollipop rom you were running:http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/development/barepop-zv8-t3035551
That reboot problem you are having is because of a bug with the stock rom so just flash that one to fix everything.
I appreciate the help, however my main problem still lies with the fact that I can't access recovery. I've gotten it to where I can reboot normally (albeit I still can't do anything due to the constant errors), but holding pwr+vol down and then letting go and reclicking those once the lg sign comes up won't let me into recovery. Do you have any advice for that? Thanks again for the help!

I've had similar issues in the past trying to boot into recovery and the method you said (vol down+power then let go and press again when LG logo comes up) also wouldn't work for me. Have you tried just holding it down and not letting it go until you see "Recovery Mode"? That actually worked for me.

I've tried doing that a few times as well, it just boots up as normal at that point. I'm welcome to trying anything though so if you have any other ideas, please let me know.

I don't know why it worked this time... but it worked on my second attempt! I have access! Only issue is the touchscreen is messed up on the ROM, but it works!
With all of these issues you may want to flashtool back to ZV4 and reroot or ZV8 your call.

Not to be redundant, but my understanding is the only way it will go into recovery from full off is to keep holding power+vol down until you see "recovery mode", if you let up on the buttons before you see recovery mode it will simply reboot.
When rooting an ATT G3 I could not for the life of me get it to boot into recovery using the button combo, instead I just used adb reboot recovery instead, worked every time, to this day the guy can only reboot to recovery from within rom, gonna suck if he gets soft bricked.. My Sprint G# holding the buttons works like a charm
When I want to boot into recpvery I always have to do volume + power up until the lg logo comes up then let go and press them again. Then I have to press the factory reset button and click yes. For me and I guess others when you hold volume + powerdown you just end up going into safe mode. If you end up always having problem just download a app that can make your phone reboot itself or download terminal and run:
su
reboot recovery
That always works because it is built into the phone.

I'm trying to fix a friend's note(sgh-i717r) and it won't boot into recovery. When pressing the button combo, it just keeps vibrating and when I let go it's stuck on the samsung logo. I can still go into download mode and flash different custom recoveries or firmwares with odin but I can't get past the samsung logo.
I'd really appreciate some advice because my friend can't even use his phone at all until then.
Is your power button getting stuck? ?
This problem is very common ...and the device just loops ...g
I don't think so since I can get into download mode without problems
What button combo are you using? Make sure you let go of the power button after the first vibration and continue to hold volume up and down or it will keep vibrating.
Gubment Cheeze
With the right combo...even a device that is stuck, is not really stuck, as the same combo will boot you to either the recovery, or the DL mode.....
Are you sure that recovery is present ??
You did mention that a flash of recovery was successful, but have you seen it ??....as it may have failed, even though odin says "pass"....g

For download mode I use power + vol down, and recovery I use power + vol up + vol down and after the first vibrate I let go of everything except vol up. I was able to enter into recovery before trying to flash superuser but now it's stuck.

The recovery is there as I used it to try and flash superuser but it gave me an error about an incorrect md5(and I know it shouldn't be giving that problem because I used the superuser file from the stickies that the majority of people had no problems with) so I tried using the latest version of twrp instead of cwm.
Well...
I suggest you go into download mode, and push a factory image to the device via Odin, and start over completely...
It's looking like the device has a bad recovery image, but if DL mode is still there, you are able to save it by a restore.....
Go into the super thread at the top of the general section, and scroll down the first post to the restore area, and you will find the links and instructions to put the device back to stock, and re-root....
At least that way, you know where you started from, and the device will get cleaned out for a fresh try again....g
I recently changed my framework-res.apk and now I'm stuck at the boot animation. I don't want to completely reset my device with a kdz. I've looked around and haven't found much about recovery. I have the original apk file, but I just need a way to push it. Anyone have a way?

Do you have cwm installed ? If not you can try: phone powered down , hold vol+ home + power, should bring up message saying something about service center..
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw, remount /system
rm /system/framework/framework-res.apk
exit
adb push /path-to/orginal/framework-res.apk /system/framework
adb reboot
Thanks for the reply. I didn't read about CWM before this happened, otherwise this would be easy. I've held down every button combination at boot that I can think of and get nothing like that. When holding vol- + home + power I get an Android and a progress bar that causes the phone to reboot after no more than 10 seconds. Nothing shows up in the device manager during that time either.

I can get into fastboot through omap4boot. If I can get a cwm recovery img for my device I should be able to fix it.

fastboot + cwm recovery only works if you've unlocked bootloader
easiest way to restore your phone now is by s/w mode ,either lg tool or offline method
or "vol+ and home and power" and the rest from 2nd post in this thread

I had cwm before i unlocked boot loader...install with 9 installer.apk and choose test version (stable version won't boot)..plus if you have a CWM backup( they r also in the forums as well) adb restore is 50 times faster than using LG Update tool.

there are two types of cwm recovery, one uses 2nd boot and other recovery partition , if bootloader is locked and phone won't boot you can't use neither and cwm backups are useless

As a young developer I HIGHLY recommend becoming very familiar with ADB, it saved a BUNCH of times on my Galaxy S...its great if you can get the hang of it, all commands are the same for all devices, the help section is sort of sketchy, but with a lot of trial and error, I picked it up nicely

The best thing to do (if you haven't done so already) is to flash the kdz (thanks cmahendra and everyone else for y'all hard work) and start from scratch. Second, install artas182x (thanks Artas!) cwm and make a backup. I had to learn the hard way too

To the OP i am currently in the same boat as far as not being able to boot and not being able to access adb. Have you figured anything out or are you still stuck? Before chimes in I do have CWM( the lights flash on reboot) but when i press the -vol button the phone does nothing.
Try connecting in s/w upgrade mode ( holding vol + while inserting usb to phone) it should load some drivers and you should be able to connect in adb. If not connect in every mode possible, to load any drivers(they will still load even though your phone isn't showing any signs of life as long as you have the installed LG drivers previously)

Hello all, I need some help with my new phone
Phone is an AT&T Optimus G E970
Phone was rooted and unlocked by myself... everything was ok!
After testing some roms, i have now lost the ability to enter recovery mode. After I press up + power button it will go into fastboot, but when y press down twice it will show the android logo with the chest open and a red triangle above... the weird thing is that the phone boots up fine with the last rom I flashed (wifi not working though).
Tried root checker and it said i am rooted. try to enter recovery from rom manager and it does nothing... would appreciate any help i can get from you guys
Bump
Sorry, but i am desperate to have this phone working at its full potential...
Try flashing recovery IMG file using flashify.
It sounds like you're using an older bootloader, which does not display the options.
Vol Up + Power enters Bootloader, not recovery. When you get to the screen with the android, press Vol Down Twice and then Power. This should get you in to Recovery.

That is what i tried doing... please look at the pics i attached... I can get to the bootloader at least. I also tried to re-root but i will need to change from "Charge Only" to "MTP" and the rom that's on the phone now ([ROM][KOT49H] AOSP-GEEB 4.4.2_r1 [Dec-13]) does not have that option. What i want to do at this point is flash the recovery by any means possible so that i can install a stock JB at least. OR some other way of rooting which i think will fix the What would you recommend?
I rly appreciate you looking into this for me
Hello Good People,
My Z Ultra arrived and it was already rooted from the previous owner.
I booted up into TWRP and couldn’t do a backup because it would not display completely on the screen, so I couldn’t select an features.
I had to reboot the device by holding the power button and the volume up key.
Sadly I can no longer access recovery.
I have holding the volume up button will reboot but it simply takes me to the desktop(normal boot)
I have rooted all my devices but this Z Ultra seems a bit more complicated than others.
Can some please walk me through the steps of exactly what files are needed to get me recovery back.
Also I have the TWRP Manager.app, can I choose a file can do it that way? if so which file name do I pick from the long list?
T.I.A.
I thought I resolved my issue by downloading:
ZU-lockeddualrecovery2.7.154-BETA.installer.zip
Option 1
And it reinstalled TWRP!
Device rebooted into TWRP, I created a background and rebooted the device.
Now I cannot boot/reboot into Recovery again;(
Someone said to press the up/down button a couple of times when you see the pink LED. I dont get a pink LED it goes straight to green.
Can someone please tell me what to do?
T.I.A.
The recovery may still be installed.
Turn off the device, when you see the Sony logo and the green light, hold the "volume up" button.
You should boot to recovery.
Another option is to install Xposed and the Wanam module. Then activate the Power Options menu, which allows you to reboot to recovery.
Thanks for the response.
I was able to get into recovery, and do a backup.
After the backup the phone will not reboot. It has been hours now and no button combo will get it to boot up
Need serious help please
Did you back up your TA initially? You might need to reflash to stock and start again using flashtool and the necessary ftf file.
I would recommended this. It was what helped me start off on my XZU.: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569904

Yes, got it resolved.
It must have been a battery related issue during the flashing.
In the end combined with a hard reset got the device back up and running.
I lost my root and everything so now I need to locate a ROM for this Sony version.
Thanks!
Ndrutil on the Play Store is an easy way to boot from the rom into recovery also..

IF you do have TWRP installed it will take you to it. If you dont then ... Good luck.
You can always download Terminal Emulator
Type in
Code:
su
Press Enter
Code:
reboot recovery
Press Enter
Instead of Terminal Emulator, You can download G-Script Lite.
Its basically just like Terminal Emulator but you can save commands like reboot recovery.
Its the only thing I really use it for since my Power Menu doesnt have the option yet.
