Hi guys,
I would like to install Office Mobile and OneNote on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, but both Office Mobile and OneNote require at least Jelly Bean and not ICS to run. Due to this my device is listed as "incompatible" with these two apps on the Play store.
My question: would I be able to install both of these apps if I root my Tab with either a Jelly Bean or KitKat ROM? Would my device appear on Google Play and allow me to install these apps? The reason I'm asking is as I do not know if the Play store checks compatibility based on stock hardware codes, or on the actual firmware version on the device.
Thanks

Yes, if you flash a jellybean or kitkat rom you will be able to install those programs.

I got the 6.3 MEGA in China (i9200 or JDQ39.I9200ZNUAMI2 to be exact) and while it's mostly in English, it still has all sorts of Chinese apps and texts on it and no Google Play store, Google Maps, etc. What's the best way to clean this up and add Google apps to it?
Is there a basic stock English language ROM with google apps that I could use and how (I've rooted and updated my devices before but never changed the base ROM)?
Thanks.
well, i was able to root with kingo android root program, and then installed google play store and services using this solution.
the phone still has a ton of samsung and chinese bloatware that i may just remove manually, but i think maybe i should just flash it with a new, clean rom - only hesitating because i've never done it before and afraid i might brick my new phone.
i was thinking of trying the unofficial CyanogenMod11 : [4.4.2] for GT-I9200/I9205 - it should work, right?

Neewbie here,
Have a quick question. UK user, purchased a Chinese Samsung Galaxy Win (dual sim) GT-I8552. Unfortunately, I dont think its going to come with the Google Play app.
Im not interested in installing custom roms, custom recovery modules etc, all I desire is to be able to access the Play store to restore my purchased apps on old Android phone!
Is there any way I will be able to install a Stock from FROM A DIFFERENT REGION to the Phone, or am I stuck with no google play or having to install a custom rom (which I believe from searches, a stable version doesnt exist at present for the I8552!). I am planning on using the standard Samsung Tools to install the Stock ROM from a different region.
The phones specs and hardware are identical, apart from the Internal memory, which is 4Gb as opposed to 8Gb on the non Chinese model....
Thanks in advance, as a newb I couldnt post this to the Dev side, if any Android XDA developers could repost in dev if I dont get an answer on the general forum....
Thanks in advance!
Download it as APK

Without installing any ROM or doing anything dangerous, you can get the APK of the Play Store.
Here is a link for the latest one as for today (4.6.16) : goo. gl/IF8SoA
Download it and open it from your phone and install it and it should work.
If it didn't work, you have other alternatives such as Aptoide.
If you don't have the Google Play store, then most probably you don't have the Google Play Services package. For this, you may need to root your device and install it as a zip, or google Gapps for your device and download each APK by itself.
Hello,
How to fix Samsung Galaxy S3 from Android Installer Hijacking see here? As Google published a patch for Android 4.3+
I installed the app from Palo Alto Networks and test my device (i have the latest Android update to SGS3) and it installed the testing app which means that my S3 is vulnerable to the hijacking.
My device: Samsung Galaxy S3
Android: Android 4.3 stock, Rooted
Kernal: stock - 3.0.31-2788594
Build number: JSS15J.I9300XXUGNJ2
Thank you
Search ‘installer hijacking defender’ in Google Play and you may find the answer
I find an app to protect against this vulnerability via search installer hijacking defender in Google Play. The development team seems to be professional and experienced in mobile security!
You may try it!

Thank you for your replay. I installed the app which name is "Installer Hijacking Defender" and checked my device. It says that my device isn't affected and i got SAFE. But my device is affected. By testing it by app called "Installer Hijacking Scanner" which could successfully install a test app after replace it before installing.
Again, thank you for your reply.
I have a Chinese Samsung galaxy grand 2 duos (sm-g7106) and after I install google play store I get android is upgrading on every boot, but it only happens for apps that I download from the play store. So for example if I install one app from the play store, it optimizes one app, if I install 10 it optimizes 10. I've tried using the stock 4.3 touchwiz and a couple of versions on the stock 4.3 touchwiz with some tweaks/bloat removed to no avail. There's not much development for this phone so it seems 4.3 is the best I can do.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hi,
I was dumped into the world of modding when I tried to install Pokémon Go on my elderly Samsung SIII - (I9300). Couldn't find it in the Play Store.
So I did some research and found it needs Android 4.4 or higher and I only have 4.3.
So into the previously unknown world of Rooting, ROMs and Modding.
With the excellent instructions here I now have successfully installed CyangenMod CM11 (4.4.4) - really pleased with myself.
BUT .... when I go into Play Store, still no sign of Pokémon Go.
Yes it has been released in my country (UK).
I do have ROMS and GAPPS for CM12 and CM13 if need be.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Nigel

Well that was an utter waste of time and effort. If anyone else is trying to run Pokémon Go on an S3 then don't bother. The version of Android is the least of your problems - the phone simply does not have enough RAM to run the game - the phone has 1GB total, the game needs 2GB.
Cheers,
Nigel
You need to download APK from internet, and it will run fine on 1gb I was playing it, it will kill everything in the background but the game will run fine.
Thanks - all working now.
Feel quite pleased with myself. On Saturday I had never used an Android handheld before. Now I have rooted one, loaded a modded ROM and sideloaded an app..
Cheers,
Nigel
