Tried to flash MeanRom to my EVO Lte after using CMX for a week or so with no problems.
Now I'm all turned around and I have no clue what's going on. My phone will still boot into recovery so I'm assuming all hope is not lost. However I can't access my internal sd, can't use the adb shell command (I get: "- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2)"), I've tried to flash CMX back onto my phone but the files seem to have disappeared from it's internal memory. adb reboot recovery works, sends me to TWRP. But once in TWRP I get confused and frustrated because I can't seem to find a way to just flash a damn ROM onto my phone. None of my backups are listed in "restore" and I had three there this morning. WHAT GIVES?
I'm using a Mac and don't have access to Linux or Windows, I was going to try to unroot it and start from there but I can't seem to find a way to unroot the phone on a Mac. Unless I'm googling wrong.

you did save your backups to external not internal right?
are you s-off? what boot loader?
if you can get into recovery you should be able to load a rom zip on sd card and flash from external card.

I saved them to internal. I don't have an external yet.. Single mom, had to buy my kid shoes. Damned priorities...
I can get into recovery I just don't have an external sd that I can put a zip on. I thought I had an extra from my old HTC G2 but I've been unable to locate it.
Should I run out to Fry's and buy an external sd card or is there a way to fix it without the external?
Edit: Btw, I'm s-ON. I'm still fairly new ish to this stuff so I'm not 100% what bootloader I'm using. Is it the same as Hboot? Hboot is 1.19.0000

If I'm using Mac and not Windows will that be ok? I can mount it to my computer but where should I go from there? Erasing it? Restoring it? I'd be using disc utility, unless there's a different program that works better.
thats fine, go to twrp and select mount/mount as storage and connect to pc, format volume fat32

Now once I do that, just add the rom files to my phone's internal and try to flash a new rom, correct?
Have you tried to format storage through the boot loader?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
yes, once its formatted, add a rom, prefereably meanrom, its the only one I've tried that has reliably installed the kernel. Give it 5-10 minutes, the phone will hang on writing kernel and it will reboot 2-3 times and it will hang each time, just let it do its thing

No, that literally just occured to me as I refreshed the page. Off to try that now.
I don't have an HTC phone with me now to show the exact steps but usually when you get to the boot loader it will have an option for formatting storage. Then try to go into recovery and mount.

Now my files that I transferred to the phone are not showing up in TWRP under Install OR File Manager. ARGH.
Maybe twrp isnt mounting the internal memory. I dont see that being a problem though

Well **** I'm going to run out and buy a microsd and try to flash the rom from external. Let you know how it goes.
Alright, so flashed CMX back to my phone from the external sd. Worked beautifully. I now have a rom running on my phone.
Still can't figure out the internal sd.... Is there anyone who can tell me step-by-step what to do to reformat it or fix it or whatever? I feel like this should be a relatively easy fix, am I right? Why can't I figure it out?? Ugh.
Reboot to recovery, select mount, select mount USB storage, plug it into pc, open disk utility and select sd, select erase and choose fat

Duly noted. From now on I will make sure to copy my back ups! Haha. Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated.
I am using TWRP 2.4 on my jewel, and for awhile it was working flawlessly. Ive only been running cm builds, and have been running decks cm10.1 for a few weeks now. Recently, when updating to the latest build, my TWRP stopped letting me mount the ext sd card, but still recognizes the internal storage. The ext sd is recognized once booted into cm so I can use file mgr to transfer zips to internal for flashing, but its just one extra step.
Any ideas on why TWRP isnt seeing ext sd? Possible fix?
Anything and everything is much appreciated! :good:
Edit:
Reflashing twrp had no effect
If I'm not mistaken you have to go into the advance settings and tell it to mount the external-sd.

This is true, it must be done in the 'mount' settings. But this is where twrp was not recognizing ext sd.
However,
By flashing using Goo manager twrp is acting normally again.

Same here with any rom it seems, even when doing a wipe of any kind.
Im going to try a older version of TWRP, smells like the recovery isnt right in some way, not the roms.

Found the fix for it. I followed one of the posts from chain fire who was referred to this method by someone I believe. (I apologize if I'm not giving credit to who referred)
1.Turn phone off
2. Remove sd card
3. Flash mi5 stock recovery( you can find a link in the general form in the let's figure this out guys forum on page 7 or so)
4. Keep sd card out while you boot the phone back up.
5. Update to new mj4
Hope this helps. I take no credit for this I just sumerized the genius devs of this forum who I have come to love since I found this place on my s3. Thanks devs

Folks, this is NOT an error. It's support for OTG USB storage. Disregard unless you're using a USB OTG adapter and a USB Thumbdrive. Confirmed with the devs. (Which is where this question should have been posted)

No this is an error.. It fails to install the rom and the only explanation at the end of the log is Unable to mount USBSTORAGE.. Whether it has anything to do with usbstorage or not that is the error we are getting. I am also getting this error. I wipe everything, go to install a rom and it fails.. I can nandroid back to my stock but that is about all I can do aside from flash some mods.
And for the record.. he's trying to get help and Troubleshoot which is the topic of this portion of the forum so I think it's perfectly placed..

I had this issue, what i did to fix it was wipe everything, system, davlik, cache, data, and internal then I did a "format" data in twrp. Once that was done I restored a nandroid booted into it. Then back to recovery and flashed the rom. It was funny as before I did the format data I couldn't mount anything, including inernal storage even when in the rom.
Not sure if this will help you guys but it worked for me.

Sure thing,if somebody that has MJ4 with passwords sticking can do a factory reset then TWRP back up their system partition and post it I may be able to make a zip that fixes this issue. Of course this is exactly what freeza did I am sure so it may not work but I could give it a try. I will pull system from the girlfriends phone but she is on a plane and gone for the weekend so it may be next week before I can get hers.

So I put the rom on my card, rebooted, wiped ONLY cache and dalvik and flashed the rom and it worked.. lol. This is what is called a dirty flash coming from the Evo LTE.. I would never have done this lol.. But if it works whatever lol. Thanks again for the recommendation. It actually installs more like a theme than a rom. Did ya have the backup on your external? If I'm reading this right, you wiped your internal storage. I've yet to successfully get a clean backup onto my external. It sounds like this could come in very handy, I just want to make sure I understand the steps in case I want to use this. Thanks, bro.

Yep had the backup on external. When this happened to me it was after taking the OTA to MJ4. Basically I had odined to full stock, factory reset and wiped internal. Then I removed external SD. Rebooted and took the MJ4 update. After this I flashed TWRP before CF auto root, this took me to an endless boot loop. I couldn't flash anything and anything I tried to run in Odin failed. So I wiped everything again, formatted system and data, tossed in the external SD and restored a nan droid. Presto I was back in business. I think having twrp flashed before cf auto root may have been the culprit. After I restored the nan droid I reran cf first then twrp. Since then no issues at all. In fact I have restored several nan droids from external and have had no problems.
Those nan droids were only of system, data and boot. I am using the latest TWRP with a scan disk 64gb external. I can't remember if it is formatted NTFS or fat32.... I will have to check that for you if you need the info. I am pretty sure it is NTFS but I did have it formatted fat32 for a while so like I said I will have to check that to be sure.
Break.....
In reply to the other post, if you have a T-Mobile version I would try the efs partition restore. I don't have the link anymore but it is in xda forum somewhere, if you search or ask around somebody is bound to know what thread it is in.
Last thing to try is wiping in recovery first then if the flash fails just reboot back to recovery with the twrp menu. Then don't wipe and try the flash again.
I have kind of jumped around a bit with the explanation and couple more things to try, hopefully it makes sense.

I believe that the T-Mobile efs partition fix works great on this phone, if it's the miracle zip to which you are referring (small zip file labeled brick bootloop fix after restoring backup, or something to that effect).
The external SD card I'm using is only 16 GB (yeah, I know), so definitely not a problem with the way it's formatted (it's the one I had on my E4GT). It just fails on backup. I may try it again sometime, but just got tired of that red fail message.
Your explanation is clear and useful.
FWIW, I believe that boot, system and data comprise a complete backup, unless the efs gets fried. Also, I think that you may be right, that the TWRP then autoroot may have been the culprit, but back in business is way awesome (pain while in the mire, though).
In preparation for KitKat, I think a large external SD card is my next purchase, along with a complete wiping of internal, clean start and all.
Thanks for the info. Very helpful.

I'm sure the 64gb cards are much cheaper now. I think I got mine on amazon for like 50 over a year ago.
Every time I want to do a "clean" install I format the internal memory. I usually have backups of apps/data/rom on the sd card which makes using mybackup pro awesome to restore apps/data. But for whatever reason I am having trouble using mybackup with this phone..
So I've kinda been chillen on freezas rom / kernel waiting for development to increase more (it's coming along great)

I have personally been switching back and forth between maximus ROM and AOSP and have had no issues with restoring backups through TWRP. As far as the unable to mount USB storage error I believe everyone gets that but it has never caused me an issue with flashing a ROM. It is looking for a mass storage device if I am correct. Sometimes after I do a factory reset I rebbot twrp back into recovery before I flash a new ROM and have not had any issues. Someone please chime in if you know better than I.
Hope this helps in some way.

Not sure if it affected the wip or not, but I got that error pretty quick during the flash. I don't see how the rom could have flashed in under 10 seconds, so I do think it is affecting it from flashing and possibly wiping. Thanks for the info about the restore though
I cannot get my SD card to be read/write. I've...
1. Used Next app SDFix.
2. Used Fx Explorer with Root to reclassify as read/write.
Neither of those options worked. The weird thing is I've had no probs with the stock based rom I'm on until a couple days ago and I can't think if any thing I might have done for this to start.
When no go into TWRP it won't let me so anything from the ext sd card. I dont know what happend to cause this but I cannot figure out how to fix it.
I even wiped my rom and started with a fresh install and didn't restore anything yet I'm still having problems with the ext sdcard. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm on lollipop with klte root. Man I messed up. I transfered all the contents from my sd over to my pc to format it and when I switched everything back over the folders came up as all empty. And I can't seem to recreate a folder called .android_secure. My storage info shows that about 9gigs of space are being used on the sd but the folders show nothing. 6gigs were of pure spotify offline music. This is not a good day. Tons of pics were there too.

I have done the same. In MM was concerned that my SD data would be gone. Made the transfer to the PC of everything. After seeing what MM did to my SD, I formatted the SD again and transferred from the PC to the SD and all was fine. If you want that info back and it is still on the PC, then just do the same. In my case after the format, all was as before.

I recommend using Kies and Another Backup Solution as I've had problems with Kies backups in the past, causing me to lose saved texts, contacts, memos, settings, etc.
I personally recommend using Helium backup from ClockworkMod, a quick search through google play should get it for ya.
Happy resetting! :3
EDIT: Just realized this thread is old... you've probably already reset the phone. Sorry I didn't pay attention to the date stamp..
It's almost scary that you would have responded to this thread right now. I am going through the exact same mess again. I tried applying a fix to make the external card detectable by other apps which were not detecting it. Well after doing that none of my apps or data on the card show up or work. The files are there if I explore root folder though. How do I regain the pathway to the card? Through my USB on pc it does not show the external but it does if I use sd card reader with the sd card by itself. Last time I copied everything from the card to my pc then formatted. It all became a senseless mess when I tried returning everything to the card. Lost everything. I tried backing up with kies before but it did not give option to backup sd card. Please help is an understatement. I just checked the sd card for errors using Windows tools but no errors popped up.

The reason for this occurrence (as well as how to fix it) depend on how the fix was applied.
Please describe the nature of the fix as specifically as you can. Things like where you found it, what it does, how you installed it, as well as if this is the same SD card, will help the most.
Edit: if you could also include the file system that's on the card that would be great too.
Thank you for responding. I'm not sure what the file system on the card would be but I've attached a screenshot of what I did. The name of the app is there.

Thank you for responding. I'm not sure what the file system on the card would be but I've attached a screenshot of what I did. The name of the app is there.

Well I found the app in question in the play store, and was unable to track down exactly what it does, so we can't get anything out of that.
To get the file system that's on the card all you have to do is put it in a Windows PC and look at the drive properties.
At this point the best thing to do would be to back up everything on the card to a computer.
