Hi
I'm new on xda. I don't know much about rooting or any other info.
I have the experia z2. My battery life is good but I like to look after my device best I can. I've been running advanced task killer to kill apps and save battery life. But I recently read task killers are no good for your device.
I tried using greenify, but didn't like having to manually hibernate running apps myself as not rooted.
Could anyone suggest the best memory/battery life saver app etc I should use.
Any help appreciated thanks

1. Battery saving, ram freeing or any of those apps never work, they harm more then they do good
~Greenify is one that does
2. An app that helps alot with battery life is Unbounce or nlpunbouncer, its an xposed module which stops GAPPS from keeping your device awake for %25 of the time
Xposed module requires xposed installer and that requires root
Thanks. So I'd need to root my phone to get this app then?
I'm not really keen on rooting, as I don't know how to
How do I go about rooting my z2?
Is it safe, as I'm afraid of 'bricking it'

If you dont know much about rooting then leave it in the dust
And rooting is safe if you have common sense ;D
If any questions ask
I suggest greenify and stamina mode which you can find under power options, best you can do for battery life without root
Thanks
I already use stamina and just got greenify. My battery is kinda good but I just like to open up my device to more.
I would like to root to get custom roms etc.

Rooting and flashing are safe and they arent at the same time
Its all down to your common sense and reading
Rooting alone will grant alot more control and customization/modding
Flashing alows even more freedom but you are restricted by a locked bootloader (not recomended unlocking untill you know more)
Flashing custom roms there are a couple of things you should know
~if your bootloader is locked then you can only flash stock based custom roms
~flash roms only For your Xperia Z2, this applies for alot of mods, usualy try picking from the z2 sections
Right ok cool.
That's what I'd like to do. Customise and have more control.
I just don't really understand some things I read about it. I just need to read up on it and get to know everything

hi there i bought a tomtec game 7 with android 2.3 is it nessesary to root it? and my battery life is short what can i do about that?
Sent from my android using xda premium
Well, it's never necessary to root your device. Rooting is required in order for some advanced applications to work, such as traffic dumpers, market enabler, root explorer, some backup utilities & call recorders, etc. For the normal use of the phone, it may not be required to root it.
Also, rooting your device may void your warranty.
ok thanks. but its not a phone but a game tablet only got android 2.3 and i want to upgrade it to 3.1 and with rooting i can do that like cynacanmod
Sent from my android using xda premium
I don't see official CM support for your device. Anyway, to flash CM you'll most probably need to unlock bootloader first. Doesn't the manufacturer provides a 3.1 Update?
there are no updates for this device and the manufacturer dont make updates.
but should it be possible?

Because of the open nature of android, it's theorically possible to install Android on any device(There's even a port of Android to x86). But there's some work before making android work on any device. I'm not myself a ROM developer, so I don't know exactly what is required to port android to a specific device, or how much effort it takes, but it certainly takes a while
If you've got your device rooted, on one hand you get advanced features such as CPU freq scaling (may help battery life ), on the other hand the phone becomes less secured, you can even destroy the device with a few clicks.
Battery problem: slow down the cpu, dimmer the display, that't all (because mobile signal tricks don't work for tablets
ok thanks all

He is right. With a rooted device you can save your battery life by scalings and installing pro applications to control the drain.
Battery Life
Hi, me and friends who have rooted and flashed custom roms all found that the battery life was better with these, personally it was the best thing i did - more options for having it how you want etc
Mike.
Root it. You just might learn something in the process.
thanks all it will work great when i am done with it
Rooting is the way to go!
SetCPU is a great app for setting profiles the for the CPU to follow.
When charging, I have mine run at 100%.
When the screen is off, I have the CPU scale way back to save battery life.
Works great and is very easy to configure!
You will have more options if you root it.
I tryed to root it with superoneclick and the program was going stuck when he tried to make contact with device and i have used z4root and other root apps but it still dont work do someone no how to root it?

Guys im just curious if you use Task killer for your ZU device?
its like none of u here discuss about using an application to kill running applications that can slow down our device
due to the shortage of RAM.
Thanks

Task killers actually mess up android, it's designed to cache as many programs as possible for fast app switching. Ive never had any problems with memory shortage on ZU ever.
The reason it's not discussed is because no one uses one.

I wasn't aware that the OS optimizes the apps. I've always used GO Task Manager EX and put a widget on my home screen to kill everything.

It is not optimizing the apps but rather optimizing the memory usage.
Guys, I just wanna ask few basic questions about the Clean Master Application which we can basically find in Google Play.
Is it safe to use ? I just wondering, because aside from the positive comments of its users, there are also negative feedback which specifically saying that it has a bad effect to phone's battery life. Some are saying that it will just drain your battery.
Thanks.
Sent from my SM-G900F S5 using Tapatalk Pro
Yeah it's safe to use as its not a virus or malware.
However android has a built in 'task killer' which frees up memory as it sees fit.
A lot of these clean up applications will kill an app which will relaunch straight away therefore causing more battery drain as the app is having to launch again immediately.
If you think your phone is too slow/the battery isn't good enough give it a shot for a few days and see if it is beneficial for you.

I find Clean Matter eats battery and is a little to aggressive with their advertising and permissions.
Try Power Clean, it's a deeper and easier on battery.

I personally hate that app since it ate a lot of battery drain, you dont need it since we already have a built in task killer just on left side of your home button lol
I got rid of it. Now I use CCleaner, which I suggest to use over Clean Master

Another Fun fact - MIUI Cleaner is also powered by clean master..
I personally believe that Clean Master is a fake app. I tried it and found that it eats up battery rigorously. If you want to see that just go to settings-> apps-> Running apps and you will see a lot of process from CM. It actually do nothing other than feeding your phone with junks and ads. If you are a rooted user, try the Purify by King root. I have tried it and found that it is really effective.

Anything by Cheetah Mobile is junk. Everyone knows that. The only thing Clean Master should be cleaning is all Cheetah Mobile apps including itself.
I'm currently using clean master with the 1 tap boost to free up My ram before I shut my screen.
Is this any good or is there a better app out there to free up ram etc

Free RAM is wasted RAM, closing running apps will conflict with the way android manages apps and have a negative effect on battery life.
Right so it's best not to do it then? As it's basically stopping and starting all time?

Ram managers/free'ers and battery life nonsens
Usualy are nonsens, android ram management is perfect, no need for them at all becauze they are often more harmful than useful
As 2posts above mentions, free ram is wasted ram,
Right, so I guess I assumed they did good when it's the opposite. Just what they want you to think so you download their app.
Thanks for that. Deleted it now and only have greenify. Went to sleep with battery at 81% and was same when I got up this morning

Greenify, unbounce and a couple others (cant remember) are apps that always do good
Okay cool.
I'll just stick with greenify. As unbounce requires root? As I'm not rooted

Reading is your freind
Tips-
Dont install mods not for Xperia Z2
When it comes to flashing, same goes
Rooting is safe and fun so long as you alow access to apps you know are safe and are certified and known by xda
Ill remember more later
I've already read to only install mods that are only z2.
Just need to make sure I've got everything I need in place ready to use before I do it. And full understanding of how to do it (root)
I'll follow the step by step guide. As I would like to root

I know only one working app: greenify
This program hibernate applications, other ram program close app but system open it again - so the results is only battery drain
greenify helps us to save more battery and gives us a fast ui to use it automatically hibernates background apps and its the best battery saver i have ever seen
use greenify its free on google play store
