Was wondering if someone can give me a link to a thread showing how to put my phone back to stock. Planing on upgrade phone and guess it needs to be back to stock. Currently running Hyperdrive 18.1 on MJ7.
Thanks!
Ok, Download Odin 3.07 From http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1168421&d=1341114315 and the NC5 Factory Odin Tar File from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172 . Also make sure you have your samsung drivers on your pc. Once you have everything downloaded, extract both odin and the nc5 factory stock.tar to a folder, and open odin. Find the PDA tab, and click it. Now search for the .tar file and wait for odin to confirm it. Now put your phone into download mode by turning it off, and turning it on by holding vol down+home+power and get it into download mode. From there, Plug your phone into your pc, and make sure odin finds it, then you can click start, and wait for it to do its thing. Once its done, you will be on a very recent update, and it will be like getting an s4 today, and you can now take it to the store for upgrade
Thanks for the information and links. Will try that when I get home. Just to ask, is the flash counter reset after that?
Thanks again!
Yes it will.
OK... I just tried the steps and odin said PASSED. Tried the no wipe file. Now it gets to the Verizon Activation screen and start getting "unfortunately android.phone has stopped" click ok and keep getting same message, also messagins has stopped, mail has stopped. should I try the other file? full wipe file?

NEED some help here. I have a Galaxy S4 (Verizon)phone that I have Rooted successfully and the phone was running fine. I then decided to remove some of the bloatware that was on the phone and now I keep getting a message that com.process.gapps has stopped working consistently and Google play store no longer is working. It just starts to open and the closes. I have searched and many threads on how to fix it to no avail. I have tried going into settings-app manager, and force closed, disable/enable, delete cache and data. removed google account from phone then added, tried re install the gapps zip, still nothing. The back up was done using titanium backup pro and I still got the same message. So tried a factory reset three times and nothing. Unfortunately, when I did the first factory reset, I didn't save a backup(was thinking) and Titanium Backup and root file manager and stock file manager all was deleted so now I have no access to the system files either. I can't re-install from the play store because it keeps crashing. I tried using CWM and install recovering with odin 3.07 but it to then hangs on my computer. Please help what am I doing wrong. You might want to flash back to stock and start over. Are you on MDK or ME7?

ME7
You CANNOT have a custom recovery like CWM if you are on ME7. Sounds like you need to flash back to stock factory ME7
I tried to no prevail. Factory reset erased titanium backup, root file explores, and other apps needed to complete flash, and with Play store not loading and handing on me, so I can get to root files. I can't download. I can't even download from chrome browser it hangs soon as download
I know you tried to factory reset but you need to flash a stock ME7 image using Odin. You need to put your phone in Download mode and then use Odin to flash a stock ME7 image on to it.
Check this guide out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301259

Wow that all sounds strange. Are you positive you have the stock ME7 file? ODIN would crash if I tried flashing the wrong one. Are you running ODIN as Admin?

Hindsight being 20/20, you should have frozen the apps instead of deleting. Deleting them yields you no benefit beyond freezing and can lead to issues such as this.

So after checking to make sure I was flashing the correct file I found out that when I originally extracted the file it didn't extract completely only as a part.file for some reason. After downloading the zip file and extracting the file again, making sure it was a tar.md5 file and tried again with success. I able to open Google Play store. I also re-rooted my phone again successfully. SO thanks to everyone that help me out:laugh::laugh:

Ok. So here's what happened. I wanted to root my verizon galaxy s4 and put stock kitkat on it. It was on 4.3. So I rooted it. No problem. Then I tried to put on CWM so I could flash AOPK. But, once I put CWM on, I could not get it into recovery mode. It said that unauthorized software was on my device, not approved by verizon. The only way I could turn on the phone was to put it into download mode and then hit cancel. I wanted to unroot the phone at that point and try again. Also with downgrading it. So I downloaded ODIN and tried to restore my phone to samsung stock 4.2.2. So I tried it, it worked for a while and then ODIN said that it failed. Then when I turned on my phone, it gave me a message saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again." So I opened Kies, connected the phone, and tried to do emergency recovery, but it did't recognize my device. So I selected firmware upgrade and instilation. It downloaded and everything but it said "this devices version cannot be updated." So now I have no idea what to do. I can only go into download mode now. Please help me! What should I do?

You have some reading to do. You can't install anything but SafeStrap recovery on your 4.3 S4. You also can't downgrade.
Here are the MK2 Odin files you need to get that phone fixed up.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578209
Try the no wipe first then if that doesn't take you'll have to use the full wipe.
Then you can use saferoot to root it again and this time install SafeStrap.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
You should read before you do things. You can't use a custom recovery like cwm if your s4 was on 4.3 stock. You can't use odin to downgrade to 4.2 either. Odin the full wipe mk2 tar and stay on stock software before you make your phone a paperweight.

save yourself from turning phone into a paperweight
I was able to downgrade from the NG6 update released a few days ago back to NC5.
Knox Warranty Void: 0x0
I used the info and tut from this post
I used the full wipe method, I'm unsure if the no wipe one works
Information:
1. ROOT METHOD can be found here
2. Otherwise, Download Odin 3.09 here (Note: Bootloader = BL , PDA = AP , Phone = CP)
Download: VRUFNC5 No-Wipe SCH-I545_VZW_1_20140330160240_yni63xq6zh.zip
MD5: 71d1c7ea58d2ba81ccadd965b54a2215
Download: VRUFNC5 Full-Wipe SCH-I545_VZW_1_20140330160240_8il17ls9o2_fac.zip
MD5: 8a22dd4a47c2c5f890227fd952657d38
Directions:
No-Wipe
1. Unzip the file and you should have a tar.md5
2. Select the tar.md5 in Odin under PDA (or AP if using Odin 3.09) and keep Odin's default settings
3. Click start and wait for it to say Pass!
Full Wipe ( AKA Emeregency Repair)
1. Unzip the file and you should have a ALL_VZW_I545VRUFNC5_I545VZWFNC5_1151670_REV06_user _low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
2. Select the tar.md5 in Odin under PDA (or AP if using Odin 3.09) and keep Odin's default settings
3. Extract the PIT file from your phone or Odin tar, also I've uploaded it here just in case.
4. Put the PIT file in PIT and load the the Odin tar.md5 in PDA (or AP if using Odin 3.09) then click start.

Just confirming that this downgrade from ng6 worked for me too. im back to nc5 and yet to see if there will be no more reboots that everyone is having issues with on ng6.
Is there a way to do this with out using odin on a computer?
Im trying this right now via odin..... wish me luck.

Damn. That probably was the thing that was killing me. After the first attempt, though, I could barely fight through the errors to a home screen, let alone change settings (delete corporate account to get rid of PIN, turn on dev mode, etc.). Ended up doing full wipe. Thanks for the thought. Lesson learned in case there's a next time.
Using Odin 3.09 for the no-wipe method, I load the NC5 .md5 file, and select it as instructed, but once I hit start, I get message stating "All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0) " instantaneously without anything actually happening. I have both developer mode and USB Debugging enabled.
Am I missing something?
Ignore all of that. I loaded the .md5 file up before the phone was connected in Download Mode. Re-loading it fixed everything.
I flashed NC5 over NG6. constant ERROR!! process.acore HELP
It flashed successfully via ODIN. MD5 checker matched. So no corrupt rom. After booting, i keep getting non-stop android.process.acore & android.process.media stopped working every 1 sec, and hitting ok keeps bringing it back and I cannot do anything !!! This is so frustrating. I specifically wanted no wipe. Please tell me i dont have to Full Wipe it. How did it work for you, tell me the step by step. My NG6 was rooted, should I have unrooted first. Tell me what to do!!!
I tried to do this method, but I have had no luck. My phone returned the error "fused 6 binary 5" - What is it that I'm missing?
i keep getting errors
Going to try it.
fyi, after error upon error I tried a different cable using a different USB port. Worked like a charm!
I did the no-wipe method and got the android.process.acore & android.process.media errors. I ended up doing a full wipe and it worked fine. Unfortunately my Titanium Backup I ran the night before didn't run quite right ><. Live, learn and check backups!
NG6
Was NG6 released with a new update from VZ, or was this ported from the S5?

Are the problems with NG6 isolated to rooted phone, custom roms, or both at the same time?
So, I'm sending my Verizon Samsung S4 Sch-1545 back to Verizon for a warranty return.
So while help with bricking is needed, I really still need to be able to flash the stock ROM.
I previously had rooted my phone, and decided to flash the stock ROM via Odin v 3.09. I used the 1545VRUFNC5 ROM which is the correct one for my model.
However only partially through the flashing I get the FAIL message in Odin and now my phone is bricked and I get the message upon boot "Firmware Upgrade encountered and issue. Please select a recovery mode in KIES and try again".
I even re-tried using a different USB cable and port on my computer, that didn't change anything.
I don't know what to do now, and how to get my phone un-bricked and flashed back to the stock ROM with Odin failing. Per the Odin dialog box, it keeps failing at system.img.ext4.
Please help! I have to send my phone back to Verizon ASAP and I'm at a loss here.
Thanks!!

Thanks, that worked and it passed. So at least my phone is working again, but I'm having other problems now.
My phone rebooted automatically to the normal home screen, however I keep getting the dialog box that won't close out that says "Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped" as well as "android.process.media has stopped".
So I'm not sure at this point what to do . Should I try flashing it again, or doing a factory data reset? All II'm really trying to do is take this completely back to to stock for the warranty return.
Did you use the no wipe tar or full wipe?

I didn't know there was a difference? I used the 1545VRUFNC5 ROM .
Was this a setting that I should have chosen in Odin? The TAR file didn't specify wipe or no wipe in it's filename.

OK so I did a hard factory data reset, that seemed to fix the problem.
I installed ES File Manager and Root Checker and there's no evidence of root access or the SU binary.
Sounds like I may be good to go with sending this back to Verizon. What do you think?

Boot into recovery (hold power and both volume buttons until you see the Samsung logo, then release), and Factory reset it.
Should work then.

If you try the three button combination as Steve suggested, and you are unable to boot into recovery, or if you are able to perform a wipe data/factory reset from within recovery but it doesn't help, then post back with details of the phone's behavior, and we'll try to help you troubleshoot the problem.
The phone would not go into recovery. I used Odin 3.0.9 to flash it but it only whent so far and would fail. No the phone does not boot to the Samsung logo but another screen saying that the phone had been flashed but did not take or something to that and to try flashing again. It does go into Odin download mode. It appears that the phone and Odin program are communicating so I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Do I need to use an older very of Odin or another version of software? I am also using a laptop with windows 8.1 if that makes any difference.
Thanks for any help.

If you are downloading to Windows (7, 8.1 or 10) it will be placed by default in the Downloads directory. You should have a link in your File Explorer, or the path is C:\Users\<Your User Name>\Downloads.
If you have a failed flash in Odin, it will almost certainly be because of the connection between the computer and the phone, so either the USB port on the PC, the cable, or the microUSB port on the phone.
Thanks I will see what I can figure out.

The usb cable is fine, when I go to download the firmware I777UCMD8 the adg virus program will not let me download it because it says there is a virus. and I am going to your links to the firmware. When I started to flash the other firmware something had to do something because the phone starts up it saysFirmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
I cannot also get the Odin 1.8 file you have it wants to install some kind of other software and not Odin 1.8 . I cannot figure why all of most downloads I need are not working. The Odin program I have failes at factoryfs.img

Boot into recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset if you are able to at this point. To get into recovery, hold down all three buttons of vol+ vol- and pwr until the Samsung logo appears, disappears, and appears again, then let go of the buttons.
I think you must be using AVG antivirus? If so, right click the AGV icon in the system tray in the lower right corner and select disable for 10 minutes or something similar, and then go download the file. There is no virus in the file, and it is safe to download, but sometimes the antivirus programs will flag certain types of websites and downloads. I would prefer that you try to install the UCMD8 firmware before we attempt to troubleshoot any issues.
Whatever steps you take from here forward, please describe them and the results you get, including copy and paste here the message box from Odin.

The link for Odin v1.85 in the Download Repository is a direct download link. When you click on it, you should get a blank browser page that has a google.com link in the address bar, and a download box at the bottom of the page. The downloaded file will be Odin3-v1.85.zip and is 203,676 bytes. Open it with an archiving program.
