Will this custom ROM unlock the phone?
I have bought this phone from T-Mobile, but chose the wrong option when buying (not the unlocked one) and now the only way I could find to unlock the phone would be paying for the network unlock code (around $30).
Would anyone know if by flashing this ROM it will unlock the phone to use another carrier's SIM card?
Any other option on how to unlock the phone using another method would also be greatly appreciated.

No, the custom ROM will not unlock the phone

Already found the answer to my own question. I flashed the custom ROM to the locked phone and tried to place a SIM card in it, but still get the Invalid SIM card message and it requests the network unlock code.

I can also say that kitkat metropcs twrp backup works on the Univision variant and it works with a sim card from another country, thanks!!
EDIT: This ROM won't unlock your phone, this is another part of the device that is not dependant on the rom, to unlock you'll need an unlocking box like z3x, or pay for an imei unlock code, mine could be unlocked with 13 dlls from unlockscout, samsungs made in china.

What is the version 4.4 or 4.2?

4.4.2

Phone is now unlocked and updated to Kit Kat
Indeed, the part of the phone responsible for the network lock is not messed with by the custom ROM or the update to Kit Kat method, but I actually found a way to unlock without a z3x box or having to buy the unlock code online.
The phone I was trying to unlock is a friend's phone, but I have my own phone and it was bought already unlocked, and is the same model. The trick here was to find out that the network code lock was part of the EFS partition. I made a full backup of my phone (unlocked) through TWRP and restored it in my friend's phone. It did unlock. Then it was just a matter of resetting to factory defaults and performing the procedure to update to Kit Kat and it now is unlocked and updated. \o/

Heres my question, if the phone is from tmobile how did you get kitkat? Unless you did it with the METRO backup

cm version
Thanks. Looking forward for that CM ROM.
One potentially noob question: cm11 is based on 4.4 while this device is officially still 4.2.2. Would that be OK?

Yes thats why people started making xustom roms

I read somewhere that someone was trying to download KK update from T-Mobile this could be just a 4.2 update or they could be pushing it. Maybe new lights are shipping with KK as well who knows

There are many phones who are stuck on outdated firmware. Gnex, nexus s, htc mytouch 4g/slide all running kit Kat. Many many more examples. The Roms may not be stable due to various reasons (no source, outdated hardware, lack of Dev etc) it is possible

Is there a test that will show if a phone is locked or not. I hosed my efs partition a while back and had to format it, change permissions, and reset to factory default to get my Galaxy Light to boot. Does that mean that my phone is unlocked?

Yes, I did it with the MetroPCS backup. Tried to flash the kernel of KitKat straight from the T-Mobile system on 4.2.2 but it did not work.

The work I'm doing is based on the metro PCs released kernel source and device files which are 4.4. They have the same everything just different bloat from carrier.

I believe you are looking for an app that is able to test if the phone is network locked or not. I do not know of such an app. The basic test you can do is try to insert a SIM card from another operator and see if it allows it or displays the message of it being an invalid SIM, asking for the network unlock code. And you don't need to buy another SIM, just borrow a friend's, it will only take a minute...

Thanks, that's my little problem in that I don't have access to a micro or mini SIM like the one in this device.

Anyone know where the boot animation is? Or how to change it?

Here's a thread about it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2611682

Greetings XDA Zombies!
Got the T399NUVUANH1 working on my T-Mobile T399. Having issues getting ViPER4Android FX drivers to work. Have BusyBox Pro and seems that it wont install property. The ViPER4 2.3 version says the drivers are installed but actually not working, and the ViPER4 4.x version I keep getting the drivers failed.
Appreciate any help.
Footnote: X Tether works!
Bummer. Think TMO watching XDA and clamping down on whatever loose ends they can bind.

Metropcs GL
Will this work on a galaxy light with Android 4.4.3? Does the build have to be the same?

[Q] Using the AT&T GSII on other Networks

Hello guys!
I have a international I9100 and I live in Brazil. I'm looking forward to buying the AT&T GSII for a girl to use here, since it is cheaper then the I9100.
What I know:
It is technically capable of running here, both the GSM and 3G frequencies.
I can install CM7 (when ready) and forget everything about something locked.
You can unlock the olders USA's Galaxy S.
I use on my I9100 the newer Speedmod Kernel that says it's based on the AT&T GSII kernel(!!!!).
What I want to know:
Is it locked for AT&T?
Can I unlock it using a Samsung ROM?
Can I use a International GSII ROM directly?
I will update this post with the answers to properly share with everybody.
I really appreciate it! Thanks!

Answers: (thanks nyydynasty!)
1) yes, it is locked to AT&T but you can unlock it with the Unlock Galaxy app from the market (https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result)
2) no
3) no

2) no
3) no, although this might be possible if you were to mix and match modems but I'll leave that one to the devs to answer. Quick answer is no, to be safe.
Thanks!
Holy ****, there is an app for that!
there's an app for almost anything lol
You can get the SIM unlocked using an online service. Once it's unlocked, it'll perform the same as the ISGS2 when roaming.
Unlock app requires root. I think it's also possible to pull the unlock code manually from one of the partitions, can't remember which one.
I9100 ROM porting for basic functionality may only require swapping out the kernel and modem (for CWM-flashable ROMs). I think this is how DG ported Perception (with a few other specific tweaks to improve compatibility.) It's something no one has really put significant effort into because there's a lot of more basic things to do still.
Odin-flashed ROMs (like Litening) don't work, even if you remove the kernel and modem and just flash the system image - I tried.

I believe either way you will need to be root because the unlock code is in the nvdata.bin in the /efs/ folder. Same thing that was with the us variants of the galaxy s. The only problem I know of is that if you flash a custom rom, good luck if you did not backup the original efs folder at all. With my sgs2 *i777*, I backed it up and ran the sgs unlock tool. Unlocked my phone with ease.

Without knowing the carrier and update the phone is on, we're flying blind trying to help. Xposed is a special app, and not the rom itself. Please go to Settings > About Phone > Software Info and let us know the Build Version and original carrier (or if it is an unlocked International model).

Gotcha. Alright, well in my experience, the ARHD series of roms are pretty solid, but if you want to get back to stock then you will need to use the RUU from EE. You should be able to find everything you need from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541082

[Q] Help rooting and installing rom Huawei y300

Hello there, how are you?
My problem is, I received an Y300 as a gift, haven't yet received it but I want to prepare the necessary things to root it and install custom roms on it. No, this isn't the first phone I install a custom rom to, as I have already played with an Optimus L5 of a friend. Could you please answer this questions?
a) How do I root the phone and install CWM or other recovery? I have found many tutorials but they are confusing, and require waiting for 2-3 days for the code to unlock the bootloader. In case you need to know, it probably is the normal Y300, the international one, so no Asian Model
b) How many ROMS are there for this phone? I like Cyanogenmod and stock roms the most, I can barely stand the stock rom in the phone, so I would like to install a new ROM on it ASAP.
c) By flashing the new ROM, do I lose IMEI or something like that (EFS Folder in Samsung phones)? If so, how can I back it up?
Thanks for your help

Here is a GUIDE to unlock the bootloader and root your phone
Thanks, LS.xD
This was all I needed, I've found a CM11 Rom in the Modaco forums, hope it works well. Just got to wait until I get the phone
Okay, so I downloaded the latest nighly of the ROM, but it appears that CM11 is not very stable and has many problems with SystemUI (statusbar) and other things. Aren't there any ROMS for the Y300 on XDA? Also, will I lose my network connectivity if I do the wipes (data, cache, dalvik cache)?
Again, thanks for all your help, I appreciate it
EDIT: Found CM10.1 here in XDA but it redirected me to Modaco, however it is quite stable, downloading now. So which wipes do I have to do, in order to get everything smooth? Also, as I said will I lose my network connectivity or IMEI if I do these wipes, or I can do this without worrying

I hesitate to answer this because so much is already in posts and threads....
1. AT&T has released the 4.4.4 OTA already
2. I don't know why you can't see it. Are you using an AT&T SIM card? Are you logged onto the AT&T network?
3. Root doesn't matter, but a stock recovery is required to actually install the update (but not to download it)
4. Stock bootloader isn't required. I don't know if it needs to be locked or not (probably not - just guessing).
5. Please contact AT&T for the answer to your version 5 update question.

If you're not using an AT&T SIM card or on the AT&T network, you will not be able to receive an update from AT&T. I'm not sure how you thought that might happen.
Please search this XDA forum on how to install a recovery (stock or otherwise). There are LOTS of threads on this. And if you don't know what it is, you probably shouldn't be mucking around with your phone yet. Read as much as possible first - If you don't, you'll be asking how to unbrick your phone.

OK - here's the scoop:
1. If you've put an Orange SIM card into your unlocked HTC One M8 (AT&T branded), it is an Orange device now. AT&T is just a label on the phone (logo on the lower back of the device).
2. If Orange Israel releases an update, you will most likely get it. Both T-Mobile and AT&T released updates about a month ago, which is why your brother got the update on T-Mobile.
3. You can still update your M8 to version 4.4.4 - but you'll need to ensure you have the proper firmware installed or you'll have problems. Version 4.4.4 has a different data structure than 4.4.2.
Again - read up on the general and Q/A threads on this forum. You can get your device updated to whatever version you want, it's just a matter of reading.

Question - is the ROM on your phone from AT&T or from Orange, or was it flashed from some other source? The ROM is specific to a device, not a carrier, so you SHOULD be able to flash the ROM of your choice, as long as it works with the device (but keep in mind the fact that you will need a ROM for the GSM version of the M8, as opposed to, say, a Verizon or Sprint variant).
If it's from AT&T, you may be able to apply the updates from saved OTA file (not sure how to apply, but it can be done).

These points are not correct. Yes, the phone is being run on the OP's local network Orange (not AT&T). But the phone will only receive and be able to install an Orange OTA if its on Orange software and Orange CID/MID. If its running AT&T software, it will not receive OTA is most foreign countries. AT&T is the oddball here, as most other variants will still update on other networks. AT&T devices must be connected to the AT&T network to get official OTA.
The way to update the device by official means (when not on AT&T's network) would be the AT&T RUU.

You didn't "almost brick" the device. A brick means that you phone is totally inoperable to the point the screen doesn't even power on; and the only way to recover is by opening the phone and JTAG or replacing the mainboard.
You probably just put the phone in a condition where it would not boot; which is a fairly common issue that crops up for just about anyone modding phones, at one time or another. And how to recover from such conditions is pretty basic info; and something anyone who is modding phones should now how to do.
I'm sorry if any of this seems harsh. But I believe the above to be more FACT than opinion, and for your own good. I agree with the former notions that you (and anyone who want to mod the hone) should always research thoroughly and understand before messing with the phone.

God knows. There is never any firm release date for AT&T (one of the many reasons to avoid US carrier branded devices if you are in another country). They just released 4.4.4 a couple weeks ago. It was delayed for months due to issues implementing Voice Over LTE. Hopefully, the LP update won't suffer the same length of delay.

Since there is no LP stock ROM or "official" firmware for AT&T, you won't be able to run Sense LP at this time unless you have s-off (and can then update the firmware by "unofficial" means).
You can however flash a Lollipop GPE or AOSP ROM, but you will still likely need to update to at least Android 4.4.4 to get a firmware and/or hboot that supports the specific ROM.
Battery and performance are always going to vary from one user to the next. Variables such as how one uses the phones; and especially your local reception will greatly impact battery life. There is never going to be one ROM that has "strong" battery for every user in every situation. Your best bet is to try the ROMs out, and see what works best for your situation.

I don't know what RUU means.. There is a simple way to update to 4.4.4 ?

RUU = ROM update utility. Its an official .exe (Windows PC required) that completely re-images the phone, including stock ROM, stock recovery and all firmware.
If this is the path you choose, its pretty simple:
Download the RUU to your PC.
Backup any personal data, as the phone will be wiped by RUU.
Connect the phone to PC in fastboot mode.
Relock the bootloader with command fastboot oem lock (not required with s-off).
Simply run the RUU .exe, and it will do the rest (you click a few confirmations dialogs, but that is it).
RUU and more detailed instructions at the following link, under "Manual system update instructions": http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-att/news/
As RUU installs stock recovery, you will need to unlock the bootloader again, and flash custom recovery again if you want to root or flash custom ROMs.

Which ROM do you think the best. I'm thinking about ViperOne 3.2.1 , Android Revolution hd 34.0 or CM 12 .
I really like the design of the CM12 but i heard that the boomsound ain't works, is that true? that's means the quality of the speakers will be very bad?

I don't believe in recommending "best" ROMs. What's best for me, may no be the best for you. Especially since our network requirements are very different. And the choice of ROM is also largely a matter of personal preference and taste. In fact, until recently the XDA rules did not allow posting of "best ROM" threads as the discussions are largely irrelevant, and just resulted in fanboy pissing contests.
You really can't go wrong with any of the mentioned ROMs.
Although be aware that current ARHD is based on Android 5.0. So you need to update to Lollipop firmware or else suffer major bugs (broken WiFi is the most common). For the AT&T version of this phone, you can only update to LP firmware if you have s-off (until a LP is released by AT&T, for you by RUU).
Yes, any features that require Sense framework will not be present on CM12, including Boomsound and dual camera. Whether the sound is "bad" or not, I can't say. I'm not a CM12 user. But remember that Boomsound is just a software enhancement. The high quality of the speakers (for a smartphone) is largely a factor in the sound quality. If you like CM12 design, why not flash it (once on the proper hboot) and see for yourself what you think?

The RUU file isn't open. I boot into bootloader and type the command but then this says something failed and reboot my device. Then i boot into fastboot again and i saw its says relocked so i guess that's ok.
Fine, tried to plug into my PC while the phone is awake and open, the file can't seems to open, not even when i plug it while im in the bootloader.
did i do something wrong?

Make sure you have HTC drivers installed on your PC. Phone should be connected in in fastboot mode.
If the RUU application doesn't even open, it doesn't sound like an issue with the phone. Even if there was an issue with the phone (wrong RUU , unlocked bootloader, etc.) the RUU would still open and start to run, but it would just give you an error message telling you what was wrong. Maybe just a bad download, try to download again.

Success!!! Unlocked GSM for USA on LS990 - follow-up questions

It was a ton of learning and quite a few mistakes and frustrated posts along the way, but I'm a happy camper as my wifes AT&T sim works in my Sprint LS990. Able to make calls, so I will be heading to AT&T to get my own sim soon.
I'm on ZV4, and of course I have a system update that is downloaded/pending. If I let it install is all of my work gone, or will my phone still be rooted and sim unlocked?
Can I install the resurrection remix 6 instead? (hope so, tried it first and loved it but had to flash backwards to follow the steps for SIM unlock)
Thanks for all the help!

Come on folks, thats the only response I get? There was more than 1 question there too.
please how you did it for use in GSM ls990
share with us the steps
Use this google+ thread to unlock gsm. Although it is derived from XDA, it is far superior in steps needed and concise information. I tried about every site out there, and this one had minimal frustration, especially the fact you don't have to read about everyone's minor problem they had along the way.
