[Q] best ROM for Verizon S4 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

best 4.4.4 Rom for I545 with original MDK
What does everyone think Is the best Kit Kat ROM fire the Verizon S4, I am still using the original MDK?

CyanogenMod would be my choice. There are currently a couple bugs but the devs will get them sorted out.

Every ROM is the BEST for those using it, if you read through the development threads as you should before drastically altering your $600 device. No one can tell you what is best for YOU. Only you can decide that through trial and research. "Best" for one person may mean the theme, for another it is the apps included. Then someone will say "This ROM sucks because it FCd all over"...well how did they flash it? Was it clean or dirty? If dirty coming from what ROM? There are 1000's a variables that go into everyone's flash/usage/preferences/phone that will affect their opinion. What if they had a bad download and never checked md5? With their opinion...how many have they tried? "Well I tried 2 and XXX ROM was too blue, so YYY is the best" is a possible answer you might see. YOU need to look at the ROMs offered in development, compare list of features offered, read through at least the last 10 pages of the thread to see if any bugs were found and what users are doing for work arounds or if a fix was posted, then decide which one to try that appeals to you.
Good luck and happy flashing

just a small request to some of the cooks on these here forums

Hi all
first off let me just commend EVERYONE on xda-devs for the work they have put in to make this such a great site/resource/info store
I've been using xda-devs ever since i got my very first htc voyager device, then onto various other smartphones and then i discovered the wonderful world of ppc, way back with himalaya, through to magician/charmer/prophet/wizard/hermes and now of course, RAPHAEL!!!
if you've gotten this far then i thank you for listening to me rambling on
my request is simple:
Is it possible to add a poll to each of the threads for the roms with simple 'criteria' like:
Is this rom FAST
Is this rom STABLE
Good rom?
not so good rom?
simply because, i am hoping this will help avoid some of the most common 'what rom shall i flash' question and also it will give some sort of pointer as to some of the main points of the rom
its just a suggestion, i'd love to know what you all think of it and if it ever comes to fruition!
many thanks to all at RAPHAEL!
My Opinion: No
All the 4 points you mention are subjective...
The only way to find out is to try it yourself, and if that means flashing different rom's
and restoring your favourite programs, use UC or put them together in a directory on your sd card.
You can always get an idea by scrolling trough a thread, that's what I do with 30 messages on a page
Each ROM is very different, and a poll wouldn't work. Just the poll in the radio flashing thread, it doesn't really mean a lot as it's all dependant.
It's worth spending the time and flashing as many ROMs as it takes to get the one you want. I've flashed over 15 ROMs trying to find one I like...
Not only is it subjective, it is quite frankly dumb (if you'll pardon the term)
Every chef endeavors to produce a quality ROM, if bugs appear, they are usually fixed fairly quickly with an updated version (hopefully). Every ROM is a work in progress and the only time the Chef finish it, is when he becomes tired of attempting to improve it.
The best you could ask for is a poll in a separate thread that asks for what ROM you are running and if they follow up post with what they like and don't like about it. However, you will find Flashing Junkies here that will often flash a new ROM weekly if not more often... There would need to be a new poll every week/month and who has that much time.
Having recently purchased a Fuze myself, let me tell you what I did here as a complete newbie:
Sized up the available ROMs and prominent chefs using the wiki and this forum.
Scanned through threads here to figure out who was doing what.
Looked up the various chefs to see what else they've done here at XDA
Made my decision.
As a chef myself, I can say that everything is subjective. There really is no simple way to find the best ROM. The good news is that I found what I was looking for in a single evening.
I think its a descent idea if the Chefs put each new ROM Version in a new thread. If someone releases version 1.0 and it is buggy they may get a bad poll rating. Then by version 2.0 it may be the best ROM ever, but due to all the early bad ratings it would make their overall "score" low.
Anyways this isn't a competition. If we start ranking and voting on the best ROM, it would make other ROM makers give up. People would say ROM-ABC and ROM-123 are the 2 best ROMS and no one can top them. Then all the other Chef's give up and we only have 2 ROM choices. Then these 2 ROM Makers have no competition so their work gets stagnant and they only release new ROMs ever 6 months. Then before you know it we are living in the world of Microsoft and Apple.

Whats the best rom out there?

Hi Im looking to install a rom on my phone and was wondering what is the best one out there now?
Try them all out for yourself to find out which is best.
What I would think is best, you could hate for all I Know.
ok, let me chime in here before you get flamed and the thread gets locked. Dont create a thread asking for the best rom. Every phone is different and will respond to ROM's differently. What works for me, may not work for you.
the same suggestion applies to everyone creating a thread like this -- try all the roms and determine which works best for you.

I am sure you are going to be yelled at by many for asking this question ! See, it depends on what your requirement is, some like heavily themed ROM (firmware), some like very light weight ( just better battery, minimal force closures, etc).
why don't you start with something stock like UnNamed, SHOstock ROMs if you don't like and you want more 'customization' then try TASK650's ICS'd and ICScrewD these are themed and a little heavier and have more options to play around!
Give each ROM couple of days and see how it works for your daily use, and choose your final one, also learn how to take Nandroid backup using CWM and take backup before try new one one.
Ones I pointed are here for long and stable.
Good luck!
Geezus .. another one? ..batter down the hatches, there's a storm brewin!
New users should be required to sign a waiver stating that they will NOT under any circumstances, start a New thread asking about which ROM is best.. add that line into the services and agreement checkbox..
sent from my Galaxy SIII ...haha jk, I FOiLed ya!
AFAIK, there is absolutely no BEST ROM as it might be BEST and suitable for you but not for others.
Keep reading through, most of the time when new ROM update released, a first few pages, people keep giving thumbs up and 5 or 6 stars but down the road, they start reporting issue, oh, I can't do this, I can't do that after update.
Expect to pull your hair, scratch your head a few times.
Best rom is whichever one gives u the options u want and does what u need it to do. If you're asking which are more popular and basing your idea off these, just peruse the development section. Usually more popular Roms are at the top or have been around a while and have been thoroughly tested by the user base.

This is why allowing these threads is bad. They'll just keep on coming. To the OP, had you spent a single minute looking over the first page of threads in here you would have seen this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1484306
Maybe it might have saved you from starting this redundant and useless thread, maybe not. No one ROM is THE BEST because no one uses their phone the same way or has the same needs/expectations. The only way to find which one is best for you is to try them. To figure that out you should read the various ROM's threads in Dev and see what problems/benefits it has and decide for yourself what you can live with. THERE IS NO BEST ROM!
We dont allow "best rom" threads. Each person is different looking for different featuers. Try some yourself and see which one fits you.

[Q] Recommended ROM to root the S3?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to decide what ROM I should use to root my new S3 with. The phone came with 4.1.2 installed on it, but I'm fine with either a 4.1.x or a 4.2.x rooted ROM.
The main reason I'm rooting is to be able to use AdAway, so all that I really want from the new (rooted) ROM is to not be worse than the stock ROM, including overall stability and performance, battery life, connectivity etc etc. I figured that if I am to void my warranty, I might at least do it with a rooted ROM that has the minimal amount of known problems.
I read various forum threads in the hopes of finding some 'user reviews' for each of these ROMs, in order to see how happy people have been with each of them over a longer period of time - but it's very hard to compare and come to a conclusion. On the other hand, dedicated websites such as galaxys3root.com and androidrooting.com all recommend different ROMs.
The S3 rooting video on this website seems very well made, but it refers only to various US carriers' versions and to the International version, whereas I have the UK version of the phone.
I am therefore undecided between the many options out there that can be used to root the S3, such as Cyanogenmod, DroidS3, CarbonROM, Metropolis, etc.
I've gotten some good advice in the past from people on this forum, so would much appreciate some advice on this question as well Many thanks in advance!
1) We cannot recommend roms. All recommendation threads turn into "best rom" threads, which turn into arguments. This is why "best romn" threads are not allowed
2) You do not root with a ROM. I think you have a gap in your knowledge. Please read General > Sticky roll-up thread > Understandign teh basics before rooting. All your answers are there.
Thanks for your reply! I've now started reading the sticky thread.
My intention was not to get people to post their opinion on which is the best ROM (it makes sense that such a thread wouldn't go anywhere), but rather I was wondering whether there are polls/user ratings of such ROMs, such that each person can see how the figures of each ROM fares against the others and decide for themselves which one they will use.
Further into your rooting tutorial... I guess I was confusing the terms ROM and kernel.
I followed the steps in your tutorial, I now have a rooted S3 with no custom ROM. Thanks again for all your help on this website.

To be truthful the most popular rom would not be the best it is more likely to be the one that is updated daily and has multiple themes and add ons.
Their are no polls neither is their a single best rom what rom thread . Simple reasons is users will start another what rom best rom thread and ignore the one posted for all such questions ..
best method is to start with the rom that you understand how to flash .

Thanks guys, all rooted and happy now, hope it stays that way. I really appreciate the help that this excellent community provides!

[Q] changing Android versions/ROM's

I've been running Jelly'Beans' ROM 1 through 22 since I've had my Note 2. Really have no complaints about it at all. But since he is getting ready to release his version of 4.3 soon, I started getting curious about the 4.4 ROM's. There are so many threads, and I'd just like to get some opinions from more experienced users since I have been strictly on Beans. What do people think are the most stable 4.4 ROM's? How many are out? I can't tell from all the threads titles, unless they specifically say 4.4 in them. I've only noticed the SlimRom one, but haven't spent a lot of time looking. What kernels are available, and overclockable? Do you use the same modems as in 4.1.2, I assume you would? What's the difference between 4.3 and 4.4? The one thing I like about Bean's ROM is it is based off the official Verizon release, and he does a great job in his work. I'm more reserved on just flashing myself ever since I've seen people talk about having to flash "downgrades" and other things to go back to 4.1.2 if you don't like the other ones. If it was as simple as flashing your TWRP backup I would. But I believe you can't use that in 4.3 or 4.4 either, if I read correctly. Any input or opinions is great. I don't need to get flamed or told to Google things. If you don't wanna answer don't. If you want to take a minute or two to state your opinions, great. I'm just curious about all this. This is an Q&A Help thread. Thanks.

Mild Rant

I just feel the need to state my opinion, so here it is. I find it rude and poor form to promote or compare the virtues of another ROM when in the thread of a different ROM. I understand the temptation to point out features that may be working in other ROM's, but lately I feel this is getting out of hand. Am not going to point fingers but there are too many posts in all the lollipop threads stating the GPe port is better, has best battery, blah blah blah. I know I would have a hard time not taking offense to that if I were a developer. The last thing we need is for our developers to feel unappreciated.
I agree with this. I have noticed it lately in many threads and it must stop. It had been great with some measurements of battery life and so forth but I have a feeling that it is easier to complain than to act.
To me, those "but the GPe is...." or "GPe provides this...." is very tiring and useless spamming of threads. No, I just don't care how stable GPe is when there's no Xposed Framework, which make it necessary to use a more configurable ROM.
I have two different LP ROMs on my devices now, Dirty Unicorns (C6833) and Validus (C6802) and both are stable, with decent battery life.
This is the first time I chime in on a thread like this at XDA but it must be said and blocked....
We received a lot of decent LP ROMs lately and that trend should continue, without a lot of complaining. Yes, report bugs to the developers but don't BASH the ROMs being "captain obvious" about the greatness of the GPe port!
YES, there are bugs to be found in other ROMs due to the early stage of development but let developers figure them out rather than discourage them.
I say KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK with the Lollipop ROMs!
@E90 Commie I am glad to see I wasn't over reacting, I have started to reply to some of those posts only to second guess myself and delete them without sending. The last thing I wish to do is bicker, but I said what I felt needed to be said.

I have done this on occasion, but I have always qualified the comments, and aimed them at a specific user. You are right that we don't need "GPe port is the greatest" in every LP thread, and worse every page of those threads.
To add to the rant, many doesn't seem to read or use the search function anymore. At least google it first or read the last post before posting the same questions or informations.
but if you have the GPe you really have no options but the stock rom. there is no development at all anymore that i can see. there is STILL no root for the 5.0 rom. from my limited searching i can't see another GPe phone or nexus device that doesn't have root.

@blueether has his GPe rooted using the system img. from DooMLoRD. I think the hard part would be unrooting if needed. Somebody reported blueether's tool for converting Sony custom ROMs for use on GPe recently worked for them with a 4.4.4 ROM. You could request some of the developers to support the GPe, originally on 4.4.4 there was something broke in CM and everyone lost interest, I had a GPe and tried to test and report bugs but didn't have much luck.
