Yes, you can access the Android folder just fine. The Threes app uses the obb folder for its storage but it also worked for me when sideloading a game (installed apk then moved folder to Android/obb).
Newsgone
Third party app superb and good working.
Side Loading Showbox ?
Can anyone confirm whether or not they can sideload Showbox app unto the Fire HD 6? This would probably be the only reason why I would want this tab.
Thanks for any replies!
show box
I confirm it loads and works.

I used that SD card method to root (apparently) my 8GB NT.
I got android market/google play, etc. and changed my N button to show a different home page, so I guess it is rooted, right?
Anyway, I have a bunch of APKs I want to install, so I copied them over to my NT but when I go into the download folder and click on them it says that the Nook can't read that type of file or something...so I can't install the packages.
One way I read that it can be done is to email the APKs as attachments and then install them through gMail. That actually worked for the smaller APKs, but for larger ones that can't be attached to email, I'm stuck.
Is there another program I need to use to open the APKs to install them or something? I did get the box checked to allow installation of 3rd party apps, but I just don't know how to install them on this thing. On my other tablet (Viewsonic gTab) I just copied them over to the SD card and then used file manager and clicked on them...not so here.
Thanks,
P
File manager
You might try using a different file manager, because it sounds like whichever file manager you are using on the NT isn't starting the apk installer.
If you've got the Play store, downloading one should be easy. I know Astro is a fairly popular one.
I rooted my 8GB, and never got any APK's to side load. I took mine back, bought the 16Gb, and have been happy with it (CM7). Outside of root I don't think you can do much more with the 8GB version.
New File Manager Fixed Problem
I downloaded Astro, which looked nice but for some reason wouldn't work for me. It showed all of the APK files I put on my microSD, but when I clicked on them it did nothing...
So I downloaded another file manager...EX something I think? And it works perfectly. It shows the folders, I go in and tap on the APP or GAME icon for the APK, and it prompts me to install it, etc.
So, for anyone unsure, the 8GB NT is able to be side loaded with any APK that the 16GB is able to load...maybe it is a bit harder or more complicated, but it can still easily be done if you have the right programs on there.
I'll start a thread with exactly what I did and what I needed to load if it would be helpful.

I've been having an issue with both Google Drive and Dropbox.
I have all my roms, odin restore things, apk files, custom ringtones all stored in Google Drive, previously in Dropbox (I didn't like having to re-login each time I restored the app and data when I installed a new rom). I also store the actually folders themselves on my Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Tab 10.1, both on 4.0.4.
But my issue is that, whenever I download a file (.apk and .epub are the ones I tried because I was trying to install an app and add an ebook to the nook app.) it doesn't download correctly or something, because my .apks all say "Parsing error" and the Nook app tells me it can't open my ebooks even though, I can open both on my computer (Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit, service pack 1). This happens on both my Galaxy Nexus and Tab, on both dropbox and Google Drive. Both Google Drive and Dropbox say they have synced the files correctly.
I realized it was Google Drive and Dropbox, because when I transferred the files directly from my computer to the each device, they worked. The app installed, and the ebook opened, which I was very happy about.
So, I am just wondering if anyone can replicate the issue, fix it, or tell me what I'm doing wrong.
I think it encrypts the file when it downloads so its not a .mobile or whatever file anymore and cannot be opened by the default program.

Well I was trying to use root explorer to put the apks in system/app and the epubs in the Nook/my documents folder.
Seems like it has to be something with your phone. I move .apks and other files back and fourth through dropbox all the time without issue.

Well, it happens on both my Galaxy Tab and my Galaxy Nexus, so... Unless it has something to do with Samsung or Android 4.0.4. It is not my phone.
Yeah, possibly something with ICS.

Not a problem with ICS.
I can transfer files with Dropbox and Drive with no problems.
Have you tried using ES File Explorer's Dropbox and Google Drive integration?

I can transfer files fine, but no, I have not used ES file Explorer drive and dropbox intergration. I've used ES file explorer before, but I really don't like the way it looks.
Try Solid Explorer Beta in Play Store. It has Dropbox and Box integration which works really well, and it looks great.

Yeah, I've used that one before also! I didn't use the Drive and Dropbox intergration though.
I haven't been having any issues anymore,
I found that instead of putting it into offline mode, just download like you are going to install it, and when it fails (because its a system app), go to the /data/app location and it is a usable apk instead of one that say parsing error or cannot be installed.
So the first guy was probably right about the encryption when its in offline mode.
Thanks everyone!
so i try to upload an *.apk to drive, but when i download i hit install but nothing.....

Just to back this up, I was having the same exact problem. Was using "Make Available Offline" in Google Drive and the file would fail md5 check every time.
Just clicked to "open" the file instead, chose Astro to open the file, and then copy/paste it to the sdcard directory for flashing. All good, md5 passed. I guess there's a level of encryption going on.
For anyone wondering about this still (there are a lot), use Google Drive Download.

Cuts all the BS out of trying to get easy local access to your Google Drive files.
Hi
I'm getting the new s 3 and I want to install all the same software I currently have on my s 2. Some of the software is no longer available in the play store so I'm trying to find out where the apk files that you download from the play store are downloaded to. So does anybody know the file path... Oh i'm running OS 4 ice cream
If you phone is rooted then you can go into root\data\app and find the apks. And again, if you're rooted then a better way is to just use Titanium Backup. If not rooted then redownload the apps.
Play store will display all the apps you have downloaded, if u r going to use the same Google id. This has helped a lot while changing roms.
Go backup is available in the market, it doesn't require root for backing up apks.
I can't see them in this directory

The folder is actually /data/app. Not root/data/app.
And if you don't have root, I don't think you'll be able to see anything in the folder. (or in the data folder at all, for that matter)
Under /data/app you'll find a few hundred folders, one for each app you have installed. They also may have been moved to the external sdcard if you chose to do so.
The best option, IMO, to have the APK files readily available is to install ES Explorer (free, available at the Play Store), and use to backup all the applications to the external sdcard. This way you can simply get all the ready-to-be-installed APK files from a single location, instead of having to iterate through each of the directories in /data/app (which is a PITA).
I use ES Explorer not only to backup all the APKs to a single location, but also to backup different versions of the same app, because ES Explorer suffixes the name of the APK with its version number.
A lot easier and quite more practical.
BTW, you don't need root to use that feature of ES Explorer.

Try this: Install "Wondershare MobileGo" to PC,after you have installed, connect your SGS2 with WiFi or USB cable to PC and export app. to PC. Then Connect SGS3 with WiFi or USB cable to PC and install the same app from PC to your phone...It is easy to do...

Everybody has a a problem of getting good games from Gameloft via side load. But there is a way to get Kindle Tablet Editions games for example
if you downloaded a game for free in Amazon Appstore then you can get its apk ( this method can be used to backup apks that are available IN THE DEVICE )
1. Download ES File Explorer ( Its free )
2. Go to app manager
3. Keep on pressing the app you want to make an apk of
4. A window will pop in that select backup
5. Backup will be created in a folder called backup
This can be used and you can make an apk and post it here so that everybody can download it :good:

I am encountering issues with Wolf Launcher. 1. I had to uninstall and reinstall a movie app, but the launcher displayed multiple copies of the app. I could not remove the copies, even after verifying that there was only one copy on my firestick and then restarting the firestick. My only recourse was to move the copies to hidden apps. 2. The delete folder option does not work. After deleting a folder that I created it still remains in my home section. Is there a new release of the launcher that has addressed my issues, or is there a step that I have missed?
What is the name of this movie app? I'm using version 0.1.9.

I could not reproduce both of these points on my Fire TV Stick 4K and version 0.1.9 of Wolf Launcher. See Video in file attachment.
PS: However, a folder can actually no longer be deleted after a long period of time. Unfortunately, the only thing that helps is to delete the data of the app in the app info so that the created folder disappears again.

I will make the necessary changes based on your advice. Thank you for your assistance!
Easy install for newest version of wolf launcher on my fire tv cube. Loving widget space and the grid guide button on the newest remote gets me back to linear tv. I would pay Amazon $40 a year to replace the ads with a space for widgets!!!
I can confirm the folder deletion bug in the 0.1.9-wolf launcher, but the fix is easy:
1. Unhide all apps.
2. Open the folder.
3. Move all items in the folder to the built-in Applications Section.
4. Delete the folder.
5. Rehide duplicate apps while they are in the Applications Section.
