[HELP] Bootloop and E: can't mount data/ error - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all!
I'm trying to restore my gt-s5830i to stock rom but it won't boot up anymore!
I followed the guide on this forum to flash the stock rom through Odin but when the phone restarts to install CSC it shows up the message E: can't mount data/ (invalid argument), then i restart in recovery, do all the wipes but the phone stucks on the boot animation! I also tried to flash the bootloader included in that guide, but nothing to do...
Please help me, i really don't know what to do!
Thanks

First, some questions.
+ Which version of Odin did you use?
+ Did you install a MTD custom ROM (CM11) or a non-MTD CM7/CM9/stock-based?
+ Is that ROM designed for S5830i and not S5830?
I used Odin 1.85 to restore my phone from CM9. CSC+PHONE+PDA+bootloader, without the Pit file.

Thank's for your response but i finally found the way to make it work!
The strange thing is that the phone was with the stock rom when it felt in bootloop!
Anyway I flashed Bootloader, PDA, CSC and PHONE using odin 1.85 without Pit so i think it's the same solution you used.
I made a package with all the things needed with instructions that can be found here
After flashing this rom (I don't know exactly for with region it is) i flashed my stock rom and now everything is working good!

[Q] My Galaxy S2 only accepts official ROMS, no custom rom working please help

Hi there,
I've got a huge problem.
After having tried the official Samsung ROM (2.3.5, I9100XXKI3), I rooted my phone using CF-ROOT 4.2. That works perfectly.
Then, I've downloaded a custom ROM.
I've put the .zip file at the root of my phone.
Then, I have rebooted in recovery mode.
I've done a data/cache/dalvik wipe.
I've done a "install zip from card", using the zip file of the rom.
The script says everything is allright... but after restart my phone stays blocked at the same point : the Samsung Galaxy SII logo with the yellow triangle.
Nothing more.
I've tried 4 different custom roms and it does the same with all (Cyanogenmod, MIUI, Litening, Revolution).
With the Cyanogenmod, it's a bit different : i have the same issue but it also seems to loop reboot...
The only ROM that works is the official Smasung ROM that I install using Odin.
Any idea of what I can do to fix this ?
Any idea of what I'm doing bad ?
Many thanks
PS : I would love to install a MIUI.
PS : I've justed tried again to install MIUI, and now, after rebooting after the installation from CWM, the phone goes to Recoverymode by itself and says :
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
Try Cyanogen. I've heard a few things about installing from zip twice. After it's finished the first time, install from zip again. No guarantees off course.
You could try flashing an earlier official Rom first then cfroot then Custom Rom.
Read somewhere that you need to factory reset if you're downgrading which is possible since you're going from 2.3.5.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
you may flash the rom twice. or u can downgrade to official 2.3.4 (KH3) via Odin and then flash other custom rom u like
First of all, many thanks yo you all.
@meranto : Already tried and the only thing it does is a boot loop.
@aceofclubs : Good idea. That's what I'm trying right now.
@Henrywcy81 : flash twice : see above. Downgrade : again, good idea
Any advice on which Kernel I should use ? Could it be a kernel problem ?
Many thanks guys.
Wow I've just tried to downgrade and WOW.
Never had so much error messages.
I loose root but everything crashes just after the first Samsung Galaxy SII logo.
I have a lot of error messages saying that the phone can't mount partitions.
Sounds bad :S
Did you flash the downgrade with Odin?

i have same problem i cant flash custom rom only stock (KI3), always got boot loop, than i can only flash ki3 with repartition (pit file)..
have you installed at the end custom rom, and how (downgrade rom)?
After flashing with pit file flash xwki8 one file. Then cf-root 4.3 ki8.
Boot into recovery and flash whatever you want.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
i tried, but i got boot loop again..
P.S. after fashing xwki8, basbend was KI3 and build number was KI3, only karnel was changed (xwki8)..
Hi, I have tried to method posted and nothing, I guess It has to do something with the pit file, I guess is messing and changing the way the phone is partitioned, and CWM Recovery cant find and mount the partitions.
The question is why some people manage to install custom roms? and other no?
I'm going to do it again, restore to stock KI3 with pit file (re-partitioning), modem and CSC and see if I can manage to install DarkyROM2_KI3_Base.
At this point I'm rooting my phone with cf-root 4.2.
Nope, it din't work!!!!! Any Suggestions?????
PDA: CODE_I9100XXKI3_CL577579_REV02_user_low_ship.tar
MODEM: MODEM_I9100XXKI3_REV_02_CL1062028.tar
PIT: u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4
CSC: GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKI3.tar
CF-ROOT as PDA:CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KI3-42-v4.2-CWM4
Custom ROM: DarkyROM2_KI3_Base
What i'm doing wrong????

[Q] Custom rom Not getting Falshed

I am XXKI8, and I tried to flash some of the custom roms my phone is getting stuck on Boot logo. And when I go in recovery it says E:\ cant mount system/cache and some other things.
I cant restore backup too...I have to odin it back. this happened with Batista, Touch X power and on Wanamlite.
But when I flashed rarity it worked fine. any Idea why this error is coming up.

Try to do a factory reset before flashing a Custom ROM.
And maybe you need to do a hard reset (*2767*3855#) after flashing?!
As this will wipe your internal SD card, be sure to backup everything you need before.
Good luck !
I am always doing Factory reset, Wipe Partition and after flash Wipe dalvik. But this is happening. Also, if my fon is not booting up so how I can Hard reset with those code after flashing.
I was on vibrant and I am very much familiar with this flashing things. Just its not happening this time.
This problem is not going away. Today I tried to flash Villain rom. But still I cant boot back. I noticed when flashing, my progress bar runs for 1/4th and after that it says installation complete. and when I reboot it cant boot beyond boot logo. And when I go back in recovery it says cant mount E:\system\cache and etc.
Please help. I have odin back to stock and re-rooted so many times that my custom binary count is 9.
I never faced this problem with VIBRANT.

I had similar issue with as you, i'll post my fix ( or atleast how i think i fixed it) ====>
Phew! NOW I HAVE CM7 RUNNING ON MY PHONE!!
I'm gonna try to explain how i fixed my issue, as clear and explanatory as i can..
lucky i didn't brick my phone during all this, because I tried so many things and none worked.I unsuccessfully tried downgrading to XWkI4, ZCKI4, and alot others via Odin... after flashing all i get is tons of error messages(on 3e recorvery) E: can't open/cache or E:failed blah bla bla to load /efs... i thought OMG! my phone is bricked! then i recalled reading somewhere that flashing the 3 tar (PDA,MODEM,CSC) files usually should work(maybe better than flashing a 1 tar file), so i found a 3 files xxKI3 rom, flashed it and BAM! it booted up this time without any error. so now i went ahead and rooted it since the tar files came unrooted, then went into CWM to flash cm7 ROM, flashed it twice and ofc i got stuck on boot logo.....i didn't panic much, i pulled out the battery, and restarted to CWM where i cleared cache/ dalvik/ and did wipe/factory reset, then i reflashed CM7 again (twice) and it worked!!!! YES, CM7 is fiannly working on my SG2!

When I tried to do the same I cant do it as it says E: cant mount Cache/System etc..
Than I had to go back to Stock. Flashing stock via odin is not problem at all. Even XXKI8 non wipe version also am able to flash & boot up without any issue. Only am not able to flash custom rom through CWM. I think its not getting flashed properly.

Yes. I said before also, odined back to stock is no problem at all. I flashed KI3 (which has all three files) + KI8 which is a single file, with no issue.
Whenever I am trying to flash a custom rom I am getting stucked on boot screen. Than I have to ODIN back to STOCK.
Hope this clears your doubts.
Just to make sure. What recovery version do you have? CWM from e.g CF-Root. Or Clockwork mod from Rom Manager.
Be aware of the difference.

hmm.... Try downgrading to XWKI4,root again and flash a custom kernel like ninpho or speedmod, this would most likely solve it..
cheers!

Sir I tried your method too. But whenever I am flashing a custom kernel via odin my fon is getting stuck on boot screen with yellow triangle.
So after increasing my binary count to 17 now, I am back on Stock XXKI8 with CFroot.

thats wierd...i wonder what you're doing wrong.. type "*#1234#" and write the versions of what you have.
PDA: I9100XWKI8
Phone: I9100XXKI4
CSC: I9100OXXKI2
Build Info: Wed Sep 28 20:51:36 KST 2011
Also, I noticed when I boot into CWM Recovery and go to Wipe Dalvik Cache I get a mesage E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext] (this is before performing actual wipe) but when I wipe dalvik catch it says Dalvik Catch wiped.
One more thing I like to share - first I flashed STOCK KI3 then I noticed it says cant find E:/System/(some folder for CSC which I dont remember exactly) and it says could not install the CSC. Than I upgraded to KI8 same error for CSC came.
now again I tried to flash siyah kernel 2.0 through CWM, still same problem I am stuck on boot logo.
When I go back to recovery it takes a lot more time than usual and following errors I get
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/command
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/log
E: cant open /cache/recovery/log
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: cant open/cache/recovery/last_log
and when I tried to wipe data/factory reset it says
E: cant mount /sdcard/
Even I tried mounting SD card in recovery but its says error mounting sd card.
Please please help.....I never faced this problem with my VIBRANT.
try xxki3 again, but this time make sure you use a 3 tar method i.e PDA, MODEM, CSC... dont use a 1 tar pacjage or you will get stuck at boot agian.
Well of course you never had the problem with your vibrant, you weren't flashing the same packages.
Try flashing Litening or some other complete firmware that has an Odin flashable package, then use that as a base.
Hopefully you haven't selected the "repartition" option in Odin at any stage and mucked up the tables.

[Q] Please help! Bootloop

Hope someone can help me with this.
I totally formatted my phone including the internal sd card because I wanted to start fresh.
Now, when I flash a rom I get the yingyang logo blinking and nothing happens.
I downloaded an official firmware and flashed it in odin, and that worked.
So I decided to flash the custom rom I've used for a long time, but the minute i reboot the phone after flashing, the same thing happens.
And now, when I try to reflash the stock rom, i get a MD5 error in odin. Even though its the same firmware that worked earlier.
My phone is useless now, and I cant seem to get it up an running.
Anyone got an idea how to fix this?
EDIT:
Tried to reflash the custom rom with stock kernel and when the i9300 logo appears it hangs for a little while, then I'm back into CWM with the following message:
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log

Here :
Download a good copy of the stock rom from sammobile.com
Flash it in Odin
Go to recovery and wipe data+cache
Start your rom
Flash CF-Root or however you want to re-root + CWM
Flash your custom rom
Wipe in recovery
Should do the trick + fix the log error.

Thanks for the quick reply
But the problem is that I cannot flash the stock rom in odin because of a md5 error, which is weird since its the same file I used earlier today.
Luckily I had another ROM on my ext sd. tried to flash that now and that worked, so must have been something wrong with the other rom.
But what to about the stock rom issue?
MAybe try to download another stock rom?

The file was corrupted/changed in some way so the MD5 doesn't match anymore.
MD5 sums are often used to compare files to see whether it's the same exact file. If that happens just redownload it, bigger downloads = higher chance of corrupting. I recommend SamMobile for all Samsung related stock FW.
P.S Renaming the file changes it's MD5. I know right?

I did use SamMobile for downloading. The only thing I did afterwards, was moving it from my desktop to another file location.
Then the md5 error came up, so I downloaded the same file again, but this time I tried to flash it from the download location, but the same error
But now my CM10 rom work, so at least my phone is up and running again. Won't bother for now about the stock rom.
Thanks for your help. Really appreciate it

[Q] Would this method work?

I have a couple more questions.
1.) I have the brick bug, right?
2.) Flashing a safe kernel and then restoring the backup won't help either I presume?
3.) Would flashing the PIT file from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26428986&postcount=1 solve my problem?
thx in advance

Hi everyone
first of all, this is my first post so if i posted in the wrong section i am sorry
now here's my problem:
i have a Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100) with rooted stock ICS 4.0.4. I wanted to restore a backup which I created using the Nandroid Backup app on the same day. So i went into recovery mode, flashed a temporary CWM (from this thread http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327472) then restored the backup from my SD card. if i remember correctly, if the restoration of the backup was succesful the phone should stay in CWM. In my case the screen went black for a few seconds then it looked like it would boot. However it just got stuck showing the Samsung logo with model number, so Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100.
I can still enter recovery and download mode. I did a factory reset, wiped cache partition and even re-flashed the stock ROM using odin but to no avail. After flashing the ROM, it didn't work so i did a factory reset again. It still got stuck on the logo so i went into recovery again. In recovery mode it says "E: failed to mount /sytsem (invalid arguement)". i could solve that problem by reflashing the ROM though.
does anybody know what caused this and even more imortantly, how to solve my issue?
On a side note, could be relevant, my phone just froze all of a sudden some times in the past months. i had to reboot my phone everytime it froze
Thx in advance
EDIT: ok, i've re-flashed the ROM again with odin. at first there is the green droid and the blue loading bar right below, but after a few seconds the screen goes black again and it tries to boot and gets stuck. I pulled battery, reinserted it and went into recovery, wiped cache. when i select "reboot" from the menu it says "E: failed to mount /sytsem (invalid arguement)"
Edit2: after flashing the ROM i get this "E: failed to mount /data (invalid arguement)" when rebooting over recovery. I've found a thread where it says i need to flash the dbdata.rfs.tar using odin. i will try that now
Edit3: when i try to flash the file i get a "NAND write start" "fail" error. I've been to a store that will take care of my problem.

TBH, I was aware that there was a brick bug but I thought i wouldn't be affected :silly:
And I was happy with ICS so I didn't upgrade. Also there is an app that currently only works on 4.0 or lower, so I didn't bother with upgrading.
the technicians of the store weren't able to repair it. i guess i have the brickbug :crying:

I have deleted my EFS folder now im stuck help!

Hi everyone,i am asking for your help i am noob at this. So i wanted to install a custom rom on my s9+ (Pixle Expirience),after using the rom i installed a random android pie kernel, then the rom woudnt boot.So i installed a normal custom rom that i knew it worked.I flash that but i didint have mobile data and i coudnt see my IMEI and my flight mode was plain blue instead of gray(but my wifi worked like everything elese). Then i installed stock firmware via odin, still nothing.
Then i panic and found some software which with u can insert your IMEI,but i have accidentally wiped my efs.So now when i install firmware it is stuck at samsung logo, and in TWRP it says failed to mount /efs Invalid argument. So i ask u if u can guide me on what to do and how to get efs file.Your help is appreciated.Thank you
Did you wipe the date with the csc file while flashing your firmware with odin?
