You select the safestrap option during the Aroma install.

Thought for HD you have to be on the nc5 bootloader, has that changed since the original kk version?

Sbreen94 has a repository of earlier versions available. Not sure but I think you may have to update from JB to KK from stock, re-root, then safestrap and flash.

[q] please please help..!!

Hello Folks,
I have been rooting phones and installing Custom ROM's all along by using the guides for the phones I have.... But the one for Verizon Galaxy S4 confuses me and with the fear of ending up in a hard brick, I would need your help in installing 4.4 KitKat on the Verizon Galaxy S4. Specs are below,
Model - Verizon Galaxy S4 SGH-I545
Current ROM - Android Revolution HD 2.1
Baseband - VRUAMDK
Android Version - 4.2.2
Bootloader - Obviously locked.
Rooted - Yes
I want to install 4.4 KitKat on the phone.. So wanna know.. which recovery to install and how to install.. whether by flashing zip in the Custom Recovery which I have.. or using ADB.. And the prerequisites for doing so.. Like baseband upgrade or anything which is needed before going ahead.. There is no specific guide here which would tell what all steps to follow.... and what are the requirements..

also a number of youtube videos available. If you phone is mdk and you haven't taken any OTA's you are sitting pretty as you can do loki, have a choice of several custom recoveries and install any ROM developed for the verizon S4
Thanks..
I am going ahead with this recovery...

CWM 1/26/2014 6.0.4.7 + Loki
One question.. once I flash this recovery... Would I have ext-sd card support ?
Also I want to upgrade the modem.. Should I go for HLOS.bin file or the one without HLOS.bin

I use Philz recovery which is based off CWM so yes your going to have ext SD card.
As far as modems go... I'd just flash the modem only file once in recovery.

Read and re-read the instructions in this OP here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2726868
It will get you on the leaked pre-rooted NC2 KitKat for now.
You will first have to upgrade to MJ7 or MK2 - root & install Safestrap 3.71 for starters.

How to update rom and firmware

So i was on 4.4.2 with the rom not3 free deox, i use teamwinreocvery to wipe and install roms. I could noy figure out how to go 4.4.4, so i downloaded the stock 4.4.4 and did a nand erase while installing stock 4.4.4. Then i rooted my phone, installed the superchain su, and installed teamwi , and installed thr same rom for 4.4.4. Is there an easier way to upgrade the firmware? And how can i update the rom if there are updates

Seems now a days modems, firmware and bootloaders are more tightly entwined, unlike previous galaxy models (I used Epic and S3). So Odin'g latest and then re-rooting is the best method. Of course this may change in the future.
Speaking of bootloaders i know thst its locked for the note 3, but when i had 4.4.2 i downloaded some sort of bootloader. When it started up it would take up half of the screen on the left side with words and numbers like reason to boot power, test xx normal. In black and white. I needed it to roit 4.4.2 but i cant find it anywhere now, do i even need it

That was called the Engineering Bootloader, and I haven't seen an updated one for 4.4.4, either. I know that on some ROMs, updates were broken when trying to flash while on the Engineering bootloader (that's why I personally went back to the stock bootloader).
I know the engineering bootloader was advertised as being future-proof in terms of being able to flash modems in a custom recovery (TWRP, CWM, Philz, etc.). I haven't heard of any problems flashing various modems while using a stock bootloader, so I don't think it's really required.

Here is a post I created when helping someone with installing custom ROMs. It has clear directions on how to update based on Odin.

Steps to root, put on a recovery and flash stock android (cm11 or 12)

I am having a hard time finding the correct steps to root then install a recovery then install cyanogen mod or whatever ROM works the best for the S4 for stock android steps.
What it be possible for someone to please post the correct steps in doing all that so I do not mess my phone up? And having the correct links in the steps for me to download the correct software would be also very helpful. Thanks so much in advance

We need more details about your phone, before we give you instructions on how to root & flash it.
What bootloader are you on? If you have a new Samsung Galaxy S4 or accepted an OTA update you cannot install Cyanogen Mod. CM ROMS only works on an MDK bootloader with the loki hack.
If you have a newer S4 or accepted an OTA then you'll have to use Safestrap to install touchwiz based roms. (Although I think there is a safestrap GPE ROM out there)

Do you mean NK1? From the Verizon site it seems the NK1 is the latest update http://www.verizonwireless.com/dam/support/pdf/system_update/benefits-galaxys4-12-1-14.pdf
Here's a link on XDA on how to root the NK1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-root-i545vrufnk1-4-4-2-12-1-2014-t2959613
Here's the link to GPE ROM for SafeStrap I would read this thread thoroughly before even attempting to flash it, not sure if it works on the NK1 bootloader. http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ow-to-install-aosp-s4-google-edition-t2817708

If you buy a Samsung Galaxy S4 SCH-I545 phone with Lollipop 5.0.1 or later installed or take the OTA update to Lollipop 5.0.1 or later, you will be locked into the OC1 bootloader. Since there still is not a ROOT exploit available for OC1, you will not be able to ROOT, revert to a previous level ROM or load a custom ROM with OC1.
If the phone has KitKat NK4 Bootloader or prior is a workaround to update to Lollipop 5.0.1 and stay on the NK4 Boot Loader
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i545oc1-5-0-1-keeproot-t3096558
Using this process will allow you to ROOT and install other ROMS.
With KitKat NK4 Bootloader or prior you can use Odin to revert back to the NC5 Bootloader, Root, install Safestrap and flash any Safestrap compatible ROM for the I545.
FYI, I use the Empty Galaxy Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/development/rom-empty-galaxy-v1-5-t2968567 It has no Samsung or Verizon Bloat and has excellent battery life.
I figured out how to unlock my recovery on rooted sch-i545 on of1 5.0.1
---------- Post added at 11:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:27 AM ----------
Run script: system/bin/uncrypt
In root explorer make sure and mount r/w.
Find : system/bin
At the bottom of the bin file find
uncrypt press and choose exicute script.
The phone will auto boot into stock recovery.... Choose to reboot and your recovery will be permanently unlocked.
Feel free to shut off and boot to recovery as many times as you like. Now install custom recovery, roms, xposed framework and so on

Having said that... both OC1 and OF1 have root exploits. Once that is accomplished, you can flash TWZ modified ROMS using Fireflash. See here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/development/stang5litre-ediition-5-0-t3132555
