Question : How to install Custom Recovery - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I just got my note 3 , and it is updated to 4.4.4.
I was able to root it via QBking77 method w/odin
but I think the custom recovery info may be out dated. Can someone tell me how to install PHILZ or TWRP on a rooted note 3

Very nice and easy to follow write up here.....

so far for MJ7 root there is only a method that is frowned upon at the moment called VRoot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2511815
i reccomend reading the entire thread before attempting that method because its still up in the air on how safe it is. it has been confirmed working by several people though.
at the moment all you can do is root mj7 you cannot replace the bootloader and install custom roms unless a method came out overnight which i am unaware of. safestrap is not yet supported for mj7 either.
Thank you! I will definitely take a close look to VRoot and see how it goes.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Ace Style(Straight Talk) sm-s765c

I have just achieved root with a tool called Towelroot.exe, now I would like to install a custom recovery but my device isn't listed in Rom Manager.
Is it safe to flash recovery from a device that is similar to mine?
How do I go about finding the right recovery so I can do a nandroid backup for my phone. I would also like to flash Cyanogenmod so that I may customize my device.
Any help would be very appreciated.
I'm rooted also!
Same lol I hope soon we have a custom recovery...JB 4.3 is awesome but wanna try KitKat.....since rooted with towelroot I got Xposed framework on mine ?

Galaxy Ace Style sm-s765c Stock recovery sucks
Anyone know what my Galaxy Ace Style sm-s765c compares to, I think it's close to the s3 mini except that it has 512MB ram and the s3 mini has a gig I think.
This stock recovery doesn't even have an option to make a backup, what the hell were they thinking. What in the heck would you do if something happpend with your stock os and you needed to restore it or something like that.
I would sure like some help with this, to understand why I just can't throw a recovery that was close to my system onto mine, How bad could it be would it really screw up the booting process? They all boot the same don't they? I would think it would be safe just as long as it's the same os version right?

Is what I did when Towelroot opens you click the Welcome to Towelroot v3 three times then a textbox will appear with some random numbers and the second to the last one is a 4 delete the 4 and put in a 2 and that worked for me.
Hope this helps:cyclops:

I was playing with an app called flashify it let me boot into bootloader mode and this is what it says.
odin mode
product name: sm-s765c
Current binary: Samsung Official
ap swrev s1, t1, r1, a1, p1
write protection enable
would this mean anything? how would you go about disabling write protection?
Something else I was wondering the file system on my Galaxy Ace Style has an extsdcard and an sdcard, they have different contents in both,
Which one is my actuall sdcard? I think it's the extsdcard but I'm not sure.
Edit: Never mind I got it now.
I was able to download the stock recovery 7.5mb and stock kernal 6.1 mb with flashify, I don't know if a programmer could take these files and do something with them or not or if they are even the files I need..
anything yet???

Mon and Tues are days off this week.
Keep in mind though I'm not a programmer so don't get to excited lol.
Have you ever tried the automated cwm recovery builder,
it sucks I don't know how it works but it just ques my files.
The hardest thing about this is trying to figure whats the difference from our phone to others.

Thanks to Ameer Dawood the create of online nandroid availible at google play added our phone to his database, We can now do a full nandroid backup, I don't know how this works without a custom recovery but it does somehow, There should't be any reason Ameer can't help us with a custom recovery,(I will ask).

Hi use towelroot.apk from towelroot.com and tap welcome to towel root 3 times when the box at the bottom comes up change the 1 to a zero so it will look like 1337 0 0 0 4 0 tap make it rain and the device is rooted, reboot the phone first and it will hold root.
Howdy yall...lol. I would like to let you all know I have decompiled the hiddenmenu.apk within the system/app folder and guess what if we can get to these hidden menus it has options to turn off secure settings, however it does require a key.......I just send an email to the samsung dev responsible for handling the keys, will keep you posted also I will post the dialpad codes soon so keep your eyes peeled here.

OK, here are a few thoughts that can help you....
1. Are you aware of Knox? If yes, then good. Because installing custom recovery on your device will trip the Knox security fuse on your shiny new phone. If no, please read the thread entitled something along the lines of "survey for those who tripped Knox," and the thread devoted to rooting and not tripping Knox.
2. What is your software version? Please show your about phone screen (settings, general, about device). If you're not on the latest firmware, we'll get you there.
3. Your general trajectory of things once on the latest firmware version NC5 and you're OK with tripping Knox, which your question implies, should be...
-->Install recovery (TWRP or PhilZ CWM), latest versions can be found in the original development forum and Android development forum, respectively. Both are outstanding, none is best, neither is cross-compatible. Pick your poison.
-->Install a pre-rooted rom or just root your phone.
-->Have a blast
In closing, I highly recommend choosing a TouchWiz based rom before you flash any AOSP based variant, mostly because these will give you the closest to familiar feel without losing features.
There is no best except that which you like most.
Please report back with the info requested herein and we can block and tackle this, with the incredible resources hewn and stored here on xda.
No reason to depart from these fine forums to do that which is rightly done and freely available only here.

I would suggest as micmars has said you do a little reading on KNOX first. Then to get your feet wet, if you decide to go ahead and root your device. I would go with rooting the stock rom in your phone first, then add a custom recovery ( TWRP or PHILZ CWM ) . I run PHILZ CWM works great and its easy to use. Now once its rooted you can disable KNOX and remove the extra apps that you are not using that clog up the operating system ( OS ) of you device. This is called BLOATWARE go to this XDA site to get lists of safe to remove apps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770729 . Once you have done that now make a backup of your slimmed down De-Bloated OS. Now your ready to go and start installing custom roms, and if doesn't work out you can always recover your backup and get back to square one. Then try a another rom till you find one you like !!! :fingers-crossed:

OK so is it not recommended to use the all in one than and what is the latest version on these devices. Are there the same recurring issues with these as the n2 where once you update to the latest version bootloader you can't go back I.e. on n2 you couldn't downgrade to mk4 once you booted into the ne2 bootloader

Just install it in Odin .
Then download a rom of choice and follow the install instructions for the particular Rom

There's a way to root every version of software they're released. Since the bootloader is unlocked, all that's needed is to flash a custom recovery, then when TWRP asks you if you want to root, just click yes, and you're done. It'll always be like this unless they lock the bootloader.

Google is your friend. Don't take this the wrong way, but if people keep giving you links, you'll never find what you're looking for yourself. If you just google "TWRP Galaxy S5", the first link is the right one. It'll tell you how to flash it as well using ODIN.

Why? Tmobile does even care.
No I know that, but Samsung AllShare Cast Dongle does care.. the dongle won't work on a rooted device. I had a Samsung galaxy note 10.1 that I rooted but I used triangle away to reset counter and it then would work. I use my tablet and dongle most nights and my other allshare in my car for my appradio. The S5 and Tab S will be first devices I didn't root
Any news on Knox?
Its been awhile since i rooted my phones and flashed roms. I juat rooted my s5. But i dont believe i installed a custom recovery. In the past i always downloaded rom manager and installed cwm through the app. But it says device not compatible. Or ud download goo manager and install twrp through that app and i dont see the version for my tmobile s5 listed. Can someone help me with flashing a custom recovery. And recommend any stable custom roms i should try out. Also if there is anything i need to be careful of when flashing i dont care about tripping my knox counter. My device isnt warrantied anyway.

You don't have to have service to root and device. However you to need service to use the data for the wifi tethering. You would use Odin to flash and custom recovery(TWRP or Phils') if you have not already done so. Then you would use the custom recovery to flash a SU(Super user/Root) zip file and you would have a rooted device.
You don't need to use the 3.18 version of the app but you misread, "AT&T and T-Mobile Hotspot testing live(use v3.1.8 and report any issues please)", the dev just wants feedback from users on those carriers.

No, I don't think you understand. You use Odin to flash a custom recovery to a Samsung device or a stock image, bootloader, etc. Then you use the custom recovery to flash a ROM that is rooted or flash a SU zip that has the binaries and or some other goodies for root. However, this does require you to read, a lot, since there are several different version and updates for this phone. The link that has been provided is a download for an app that you would install after you have root, but before you tried to do any of this you should have read and read some more until you understood what you were doing. From the post that you have been placing in this thread you have not read any of the links I have and others have provided and don't know what steps you were trying to do, so I not sure if I can help.
The best thing to do is to use odin and flash a stock tar, but you have to read, read, read. You need to know what firmware version you had before doing this, if not you can mess the phone up bad.
I use "WiFi Tether Router". It's in the app store and it works great for me.
