There may be thread out there I've not seen but does anyone know when AT&T plans to re-release an update for this phone? Long overdue
They are skipping 4.4.3 and going straight to 4.4.4 which, from my understanding is in test right now.

They are always over due... Drives me nuts. Now we're hearing about lolipop coming and were still hoping for 4.4.4. Pretty sure they are the worst when it comes to updates. Were always last.
Well would you rather have a s5 without an unlockable bootloader, but gets official updates or HTC who make the devices bootloader unlockable, but get updates later ?

Actually, Samsung is just now rolling out 4.4.4 as well. And Verizon and T-Mobile started rolling out 4.4.4 for the M8 yesterday, so its not HTC.
Yes, AT&T is always last. Although with the M8, they've been better about lagging the other carriers on updates. Instead of being 3 or more months later (as on some past devices), updates for the M8 have been within a couple weeks (although yes, the 4.4.3 update was botched and pulled). So lets hope the update is rolling out soon!
I've never received any kind of official update partially because I've always rooted my phone as soon as I got it. I can understand why people are so ready for these updates though. It'll come when it comes. I think earlier I didn't finish my train of thought. Samsung devices love locking the bootloader ( take for instance the s5. I still think its not unlocked yet); however, its seemed like samsung get their updates quicker. Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong..While on the other hand HTC ship their phones with unlockable bootloaders, but updates don't come as quick...but as redpoint did point out. It's not always the manufactures that stall the update progress.

Should I do the update? I was worried about the unlock bootloader.

if htc unlocks the boot loader you will have to OTA update anyway ....
i did it 5 minutes after i walked out of sprint store because the rep told me i had to have it to get netflix. netflix still doesn't show up in market. i had to get an apk and load it myself. if it is locked already what is an OTA going to hurt?
The problem here is if HTC doesn't unlock........Anyone who has taken the update may have unknowingly patched an exploit that our devs are using, attempting to gain root access.

If they only 'unlock' (or stop crypto-signing) the bootloader that doesn't guarantee us anything besides that. So we might still have to root the OS, which that OTA is likely a patch against (in addition to other things).
Or they are just going to 'unlock' the bootloader and give us s=off and then we can go wild and not worry about it.
I'm not taking that chance...
...besides, if the devs here get root before HTC--or HTC flakes out--I want in, and declining OTA's is a great way to insure the best chance for root in that circumstance.
Besides, my phone runs great and I haven't missed a single feature....a few FC's here and there, but, big deal....
The way I look at it, if you buy the phone a week from now, it'll already have the OTA on it out of the box anyway. Root will happen eventually, and people won't stop hacking the phone if they can only root 3vo's that came out in the first week of production. No dev is going to want to publish a root that only works on the first week's production. That's like saying "look at me... I have a small p3n15". They won't give up until every OTA is cracked.
Mike
There is another possible benefit. I am not sure which version the engineering bootloader is, but generally, those are a hot commodity. It may be that the official unlocked hboot will have its own limitations. An eng hboot may be more desired. In today's EVO 4G, you cannot downrev to an eng hboot after you have acquired a certain version.

Yes
I did no worries
I got the update not long after I left Sprint from purchase. I didnt think anything of it and took the update. Like one member has said, Netflix was not available to me until after I did the update.
If I'm in a bad situation with gaining root doing this update, oh well. Something is bound to happen after some time. No worries here.
I did both updates as soon as I pulled it out of the box.

i didn't wanna but i had to
I did! Not worried about root, it will happen when it happens. Meanwhile, I'm great with the phone as it is, especially since you can get rid of a lot of the sprint bloat and move most apps to the sd card.
I ran it as soon as I activated the phone in hopes that it included the unlocked bootloader... needless to say, I was disappointed
I think my usb/charging port is a bit loose. I was thinking about exchanging my 3D before my 30 days. I've resisted the urge to accept the OTA updates bc of the possible root exploit. Question is, if i do decide to exchange will the new phone come with all the OTA updates preinstalled? Or will i still be prompted to accept them once i boot and activate the phone. TIA
A: NO

I just exchanged mine today after I installed the OTA's a couple days ago. They gave me new phone in box, I told them NOT TO ACCEPT the OTA's when they activated it. I did get the prompt but declined it and turned off scheduled checks. So I'm back to original, no OTA's. Did this about 5 hours ago.
I don't know why you guys would be worried the exploit attacks the kernel which is the same regardless of whether you excepted the OTA or not. In other words the OTA does not contain a change in kernels to my knowledge. If it did someone will be along shortly to correct me.

My phone had legit issues, that's why I exchanged it but I'll hold off on OTA's on this one just in case. Kernels come in the form of OTA's, how else would they update on your phone? Please tell me you don't bring it in to sprint to update your kernel . Until it's fully rooted, with s-off, I'm not taking any updates. Phone works great out of box. Even green hornet 3d (need to get that the hell off there, waste of damn space)
And I'll quote you "to my knowledge" and "someone will be along shortly to correct me". I've just read enough to form this opinion. VERY WELL could be wrong.

Good but my point was the OTA did not bring a new kernel to my knowledge. Yes it is possible that HTC will close up the hole in the kernel in the future but as of now they haven't.
BTW Green Hornet is on your SDCard feel free to delete it when ever you like.
My wife and I both have a DNA, and hers was updated a month or so ago while mine has still not received an update OTA. Anyone else experience this? or is there something wrong with my DNA?
If i force it to manually check for updates, it says checking for new software updates, then the window disappears and nothing happens.
What do you guys think?

i think there is an option to only have only data over wi-fi? or maybe it requires wi-fi, cant remember. i could be wrong. but if you're not having SIM card issues, there is really no reason. plus, it might hinder a future unlock for 2.04

Yeah I really don't have any sim card issues at all. I see a lot of people wanting an unlock for 2.04, but reading through threads our best shot at getting an unlock sounds like it would be with finding some kind of loop hole in a new update.
I wish Verizon would just get it together and realize they're only hurting themselves by acting the way they are.
Is anyone still working on an unlock for 2.04? I don't blame them a bit for giving up on it if they have...

well, from what it looks like, the devs have root, but its not permanent, and until they can get something solid for an unlock, they arent going to release anything that isnt solid publically. other than that, it seems like work has really slowed down. but im not "in the know", thats just what it seems like. i think you would be safer sticking with your current version and skipping the update (reference the bounty thread). especially if youre not having sim card issues.
BUT, what you should really do it get it Jtagged. it only takes a couple weeks and there is no damage to the phone. i'm so glad i did it. ALSO, i hear official sense 5 and JB4.2.2 update is coming soon too. so, its up to you. i wouldnt worry about the update though
beaups just achieved software s-off (see original development section) it should be available sometime in the near future.

http://www.androidbeat.com/2015/06/lg-launches-bootloader-unlock-tool-supports-g4/
So, they are releasing a bootloader unlocker for the G4 for right now. Let's hope they do it for the G3 as well? I'm sure they're only doing it for the G4 because it's the newest phone, so they're probably hoping to lure people off of their G3s to the new G4.
Farg that!
Oh well, for me right now, it's not that big of a deal. We do have bumping (for now), and as it is, right now I'm not bumped and I'm not rooted. First time in a long time that I haven't done that.
But, once the support for the G3 dwindles to nothing, it would be nice to have an officially unlocked bootloader as opposed to "bumping". Makes like easier if you ask me as far as rooting, flashing new ROMs (plus no longer would need "bumped" ROMs which are specific to the model you are on), etc.
I am still on bumped rooted debloated stock KitKat. The release of a boot loader unlock for the G4 does make it a more attractive device, for me, and LG a company I would consider buying from again. I do hope it comes to the G3 as well, soon, though our early devs did get around it.
I despise Verizon for a lot of reasons, though, the Lollipop update being a big one. I don't imagine they will ever allow LG to release a boot loader unlocked for the VS985.

I just ordered my G4, and will have it on Friday. I see the Bootloader unlock tool only lists the European model, but hopefully it will work on my Verizon G4. :fingers-crossed:

hopefully it can, but doubtful. there was a similar manufacturer tool for my last moto, and it only worked on the non us models.
we had a hack for ours though
Knowing verizon history of locked bootloader there is very little chance this will work. Maybe the 1st version of the Verizon software will have some kind of loophole in it to make it work but highly unlikely.
Either way I'm glad the Verizon g3 had twrp so I'm running cm 12.1
I'd be more happy if Verizon just released a lollipop ROM that actually worked without all the bug.
The unlock tool asks for the IMIE ... so that means when you type that in it will see the region of the phone and stop there...I did the pre order through bestbuy and got a blue one. Pretty sweet phone.
I was reading a few things on LG's website and caution must be taken.
This is non-reversable. You cannot go back to a locked state. It must blow an eFuse or something, which is how I unlocked my Droid RAZR HD.
Once unlocked, DRM is no longer available. This can affect things such as streaming content from a provider that checks for the presence of DRM and will refuse to stream if it's not present. Not sure which streaming services this could affect, but it could and probably will prevent you from ever being able to stream from those services again, once they are identified.
Just a few things I read that made me reconsider this. So, bumping right now is the best bet and hopefully, that will continue to be possible when the next OTA comes out that should hopefully fix the WiFi sync issue. Of course, rooting is the other option to fix that, but I'm holding off on that until after the OTA comes out to see if that OTA is still rootable. If not, then I'll probably root and flash the fix for the WiFi sync bug as I'm pretty happy with the stock image. I really don't have a compelling reason for me to flash to a custom ROM, which I did on all my other phones. For me, the stock G3 is just fine and works great. I'm sure once the G3 no longer gets updated, I'll eventually either move to a new phone, or else, I'll start bumping and flashing custom ROMs to get me other features that aren't possible with the stock image.
Just wondering if anyones n915v verizon has bricked from taking an over the air OTA update to Marshmallow? I heard this was a problem. But don't know if it pertains to verizons in the united states.

Yes. since Marshmallow OTA, my phone has mmc fail errors and reboots constantly.
Ruined Phone
When I got the OTA update to knock it up to Software Update Ver. MMB29M.N915VVRU2CPG2, I thought it would work just fine.
Unfortunately for me, I was gravely mistaken. The OS consistently restarts, I am getting the “Could not do normal boot, mmc_read failed” error, as well as a ton of other problems, not to mention the constant freezing. I had to rollback my firmware to D1 instead of G2 in order to keep my phone from crapping out on me
I am seriously starting to debate just loading a custom ROM, but I have yet to delve into rooting my android phone. I only used to jailbreak iOS devices years back, but I luckily made the switch to Android, and since then I haven't really found the need to jailbreak my phone, apart from getting rid of the bloatware.
So yeah, stick to D1 firmware while you get the chance. If you accidentally update it, just use Odin like normal
EDIT: Not sure if I need to say this, but it's not just OTA that gives issues. Updated via Smart Switch, and it bogs it down as well.
