[Q] How to use permanently an openVPN connection? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I run a firewall at home with a openVPN Server. My phone runs CM11. My purpose is to use the VPN connection all the time for all internet access so I can use my firewall .
In my openVPN Client app I can chooese between two modes when phone goes to sleep:
1: pause VPN and use direct internet access
2: pause VPN and do not use direct internet access
Question: is there no chance to use permanently the VPN connection? When the phone is in standby it should also use the established VPN connection. If tunnel is paused and I use option 2 there is no internet connection while phone sleeps. So also no messages are coming in, no mails are checked and so on. But option 1 is against my purpose to use for 100% the VPN connection. Is there any solution for my purpose?

Wanna give it a new try.
This idea shouldn't be so bad as I think

[Q] Android built in VPN

Hello,
i have a Question to the standard Android VPN Client because i cant test it:
- If i connect my VPN after i started my Smartphone,- what happens when my mobile Data Connection lost? Do Android perform an auto reconnect to the VPN when the data connection is restored?
Greetings,
Blade
The basic client will lose the connection and not reconnect.
But you could look for apps which do auto-redial.

Android VPN + Tethering

I use Android's native PPTP VPN connection to manage computers at my office or at my home if I need to do something when I'm not physically present.. If my phone is connected to the VPN however, and I tether my internet connection to my tablet, I can't seem to get access unless I make a second VPN connection from my tablet.
Does anybody know how to share VPN access to tethered devices? I'm sure its possible, just not sure how to make it happen...
possible solution see cross-link
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33749904&postcount=10
And why are you trying to do that?
I haven't tested vpn "sharing" , but it is simple to vpn with the tethered device to the vpn server. Wifi tether passes the vpn traffic fine.
I will poke around with it sometime.

[Q] Way to connect to VPN, but still use regular connections for data

Is there a way that I can connect via VPN to my work's network, but only have it be used for apps that require that pipe? ie, not have all data go over the VPN.
Ex. On my Win7 machine, I can setup the VPN and uncheck the option to "use this as default network connection", so that i still keep my normal internet, but anytime I reference a network address, it properly uses the VPN.
Anything like that for Android?

WiFi Tether but... Without Internet?

This may seem like a dumb question but... is there a way or an app to essentially turn on WiFi hotspot feature so that I can make an ad-hoc LAN but NOT let all the devices connected access the internet?
Example: I enable WiFi hotspot on my phone. I still have a cellular data connection so I can browse the web, stream music, etc. but any other device that connect to my phone's hotspot does NOT get my data connection, they are just on the LAN the built in android hotspot creates.
I don't want to let other users "run up" my data usage but I want the other users when they connect to my hotspot to be all on one network.
I have a bootloader unlocked Motorola Moto X (original, 2013) and rooted and I use Tasker. Maybe after I enable the hotspot feature I could modify some IP tables via a Tasker app to "enable/disable" internet blocking.
Or maybe there's an app out there for this? I suppose another alternative would be disable mobile data and then enable hotspot (if that's even allowed) but the pitfall there is then my phone doesn't have internet either.
Thanks,
Mike

Automatic Connection to VPN Upon Connecting to Specific WIFI Network(s)

Looking for a way to automatically connect to a VPN whenever a I connect to specific WIFI networks. If it matters I currently have OpenVPN based options & TorGuard but I'm completely open to others. Ideally this VPN session would close whenever I disconnect.
Yes, I could leave the VPN up all the time but I'm just looking to secure my first hop (work & public networks) and not worried about cellular data snooping and my own personal WIFI.
