LTE connection issues on 3.28.401.7 - AT&T HTC One (M8)

Hi so I am s-off, unlocked and rooted.. I updated to the latest wwe firmware and since then, my google apps like chrome, maps and Google search will not work when connected to data/LTE from time to time..it will not load the search even though I am connected to LTE.. I have to use another browser just to search on google. Anyone else have similar issues or fixed?

You can try flashing the Dev Ed (3.28.1540) firmware. Although Wonders_Never_Cease seems to be saying the radio is same as Euro firmware.

On the 2.x firmware, folks had various issues (including LTE issues or no service whatsoever) using the Euro radio on US networks. However, yours is the first report I've seen of issues with the 3.28.401 firmware on US networks (assuming that is the case).

OK I will try that. And yes I'm on us AT&T network. Very strange that no one else is having this issue

I'm having the same problem but it doesn't make sense. I flashed the firmware yesterday and I'm only getting this connection problem today. So far I've dirty flashed, clean flashed, flashed a new radio. My next attempt is to reflash a different firmware. It doesn't help that the WiFi at work is down so it's making me all types of cranky, if all else fails the phones meeting the wall.
Actually this is probably a Google issue. Now YouTube, Gmail, Maps, Keep and Play Music all work properly for me. The only thing still borked is Play Store
Update: Just clear data on Play Store, everything should be working now. At least it is for me. @sameer1807

Interesting. The fact it was only Google services that were affected did have me suspicious. So the firmware may just be coincidence and a red herring.

seem to have the same problem even after clearing the data. i will try flashing the at&t fw like someone above recommended. hope that fixes the issue.

Compared radio version [email protected],but how its use by network on euro build props is another story, the euro builds on att network seem to not work as well.

Ok so even after flashing the at&t fw for 4.4.4, no luck. looks like i have to revert back to 4.4.3 and the 2.22 fw. do not know what the source of this problem is.

I'd be interested to see if that helps, or eliminates FW as the issue.
LTE issues makes me think its a radio issue. But the fact its just Google services makes me think otherwise. So its an interesting case.

Yes I put the 2.22 fw back and installed a 4.4.3 ROM and problem solved.. Guess I have to wait until att releases an official release. Good thing not much has changed in 4.4.4

This guy is having the same issue on 4.4.3 and seems to be running stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56187474&postcount=3
So I'm still thinking maybe its just a network or Google issue?

This thread seems more active than the one that I had originally posted on, so I'll jump on here. I came from an iPhone 5 because I had really wanted out of the iOS ecosystem and after having a Nexus tablet for a bit I was ready to make the jump. I picked up a used DE 32GB m8. The previous user had said he only used it for a week before deciding he liked his Note 3 more, and was also using it on AT&T. When I got the phone it was running KK 4.4.3 but I'm not sure of the firmware/baseband versions, I just didn't take notice, I'm sorry. At 1st the phone seemed to connect to LTE just fine...I entered my Google account on it and it set it up pretty much as a carbon copy of my Nexus 7 tablet. During this time a ton of apps downloaded, but not all the ones I wanted on a phone vs. a tablet so I definitely went to the Play Store and grabbed a few. This was when I was still up in the Waterbury, CT area where I had picked up the phone. It wasn't until about a week later that I noticed connectivity issues while showing LTE signal. I at 1st thought it applied to all services but it turned out it was just the Google services (minus play music, for whatever reason) I called AT&T who verified my LTE connectivity and downloaded Ookla Speedtest to verify for myself. My downstream averages over 50mb/s and upstream about 20mb/s. After trying all the trouble shooting steps like clearing all caches, reverting gapps back to stock, etc. I performed a factory reset. This STILL did not solve my connection issues. Also I have verified during this time I can connect fine by selecting the H+ network. When OTA 4.4.4 was released I thought that may fix the issue. It did not seem to change anything regarding LTE connectivity. BTW on both 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 I have been using ART runtime. I then decided to unlock the boot loader and root the phone, as I had done for my Nexus. I did and went in through ES file explorer to delete the hosts.txt file in system/etc as that had been mentioned as a way to restore Play Store connectivity. All last night and this morning my LTE was working fine, until I got to work. Although it was showing LTE service there once again I got timeout errors on the Play store and Google.com and search were not functional until I switched LTE off. When the H+ connection was restored, I could connect again. I called Google tech support regarding this issue and they advised me to call AT&T or HTC as it was "not their issue". I'm hoping that one of us can figure this out. I am considering going S-off and flashing radios when I have the time to experiment. I may eventually go to a custom ROM as well but I wanted to hold out for Lollipop.

To the above post..yes seems like your issue is similar to mine except you experienced it without flashing the 4.4.4 firmware. Anyway, the only fix I found after being on 4.4.4 and having weird google issues on LTE, I flashed a 4.4.3 fw and flashed recovery/flashed SuperSU/installed ROM and everything is back to how it was before I decided to flash the updated fw. But to do all of these things, like u said, you must be s-off and boot loader unlocked.

It will probably boot, just take a reeeeally long time to do so (10 minutes or more). And WiFi will probably be broken.

I'm running ROM below and flashed the 3.28.401.6 firmware from the provided link below the image and I'm receiving the best service I've had in places I had nothing at all.

the issue isnt so much about getting service as it is about connecting to google svcs like google now/play store/maps/ chrome google search. i agree service has been better but periodically, it cuts off to these svcs. i wish someone would look more into this. IK this seems to be isolated but perfecting this would improve the experience for all users of the M8.

Problems since BLG8?

So last night I updated my s3 to the latest UK firmware, XXBLG8, And I can't tell if my problems stem from the latest update!
After the update many apps wouldn't open and I'd have to do a battery pull to sort out each individual app that refused to load, everything's fine now, however, my data connectivity seems to have worsened considerably, even with full signal strength and HSPDA nothing will load, the browser shows errors that I'm not connected to the internet and apps such as the Play Store and Speedtest won't connect.
Anyone else experiencing this problem? Would I be able to flash back to an earlier firmware using ODIN? (I'm new to the s3 scene, just jumped ship from a Desire HD and haven't yet fully got my bearings.)
Thanks guys!

Hmm, I suppose it could be the area I'm in, but it's usually fine where I am. I'll give it another couple of days and test it in other areas to see if the problem persists.
I've upgraded via ODIN before, just wasn't sure if there were restrictions on downgrading etc, I'll give the thread you linked to a good read now, thanks!
Try changing Modem BULF1 for starters .
I find the last two updates modems are very poor .

So I decided to bust out my Desire HD, I remembered I still have a month left on my old contract before it gets terminated, checked the data connectivity on there and I seem to be having the same issues. Looks like it's a problem with 3 in general rather than it being my s3. Which is good news for my s3!
Must have been pure coincidence that I started having these issues right after upgrading, however, I tried a few new modems and have been getting better signal (no change with the data issues) so at least I've taken something away from the experience
Isn't there an issue with 3 UK branded ROMs experiencing network issues when you flash the unbranded ROM? I think you may need to flash a separate modem, Google it, I may be wrong.
I'm on 3uk running blg8 not had any problems making, receiving calls and texts and my network is fine on both wireless and 3g

It seems to be working pretty well this morning on both my s3 and DHD, and Frostfree I'll have to check that out, I've already flashed a few new modems and I'm getting better performance so that might very well be the case!
I'm in Folkestone (south east coast)
I am on BLG6 with Cyanogen Mod 10 latest rom and so far I have great speeds (4-5Mb) on speed test app.
Will try flashing BLG8 when i can find a download link. I just want the modem to flash not a whole rom cos i am loving JB on the SGS3.

HTC Sense 5 for EVO LTE

I was talking with a Sprint rep the other day and mnentioned Sense 5 coming to the EVO LTE. He said it won't happen. He didn't credit any resources for his answer but I don't remember 100% what he was saying. Something about the EVO LTE not being able to handle Sense 5. I then told him it was ported to this phone and the only things that are a bit screwey (that I know of) are Blinkfeed, Bluetooth, and data connection.
Has anyone else asked or heard anything about such things? In my opinion, HTC should take out Blinkfeed and throw us a Sense 5 update.
If I recall correctly, the only issue I had while running Sense 5 was no Bluetooth. I don't remember having any Blinkfeed or connection issues. YMMV
Hopefully the Sprint rep didn't know what he was talking about

Did that more times than I can remember. Tried different firmwares, different radio, different wipes, superwipes, even wiped internal and external storage, installed - booted - restarted - flashed - rebooted even, lol. I've tried it all. Nothing works for me. I've tried switching from different ROM's while preforming different scenarios. I get the same result no matter what I do. But every other ROM works just fine. Even reprogramming with the ##dialer codes did nothing for me. This happened on my other EVO LTE too (this is my replacement). I'm starting to wonder if I'm Sense 5 retardant or something. Hahahaha.

I'd take a Sprint reps word with a grain of salt. It's obvious he doesn't know what he's talking about given the fact we have a 99.9% functioning port for our phones. Only issues I've ever had are a couple of camera functions, which the devs are aware of. I don't use Bluetooth so it's not a deal breaker for me.

I tend not to listen to them in general. Otherwise, NJ would have 4G since last December, and both my wife and I would have refurbished phones.
They claimed that her GS3 had water damaged when it wouldn't boot past the final boot screen. Fixed it by calling Samsung directly, who told me to factory reset. I then rooted and updated to avoid the "Sudden Death Syndrome" that the 16gb Sprint version of the GS3 suffers.
My phone list signal, and they couldn't figure it out (they didn't really try. He restarted the phone once, went to settings, and gave up.) I went home, flashed the newest firmware, and voila! Good as new. In both cases, I put the refurb phones back into the package and mailed them right back.
Long story short, question EVERYTHING that they tell you. You probably have more knowledge, anyway. They only sell phones to blindsided customers who Le looking at the pretty screens.

Every phone is different for reasons that I'll never understand. Blinkfeed and data work perfectly for me with absolutely no issues. I don't use BT at all, so our phone's Sense 5 port is pretty much flawless as far as I'm concerned.
But then I try an AOSP rom, and my phone turns into a turd. And not even one of those good turds where you don't really even have to wipe. My phone hates AOSP, and meanwhile I'm reading the forums and everyone using CM or Liquid or Carbon or etc. is just LOVING the rom and it runs great for them. Meanwhile I feel like I'm using a Froyo phone from 2010. When I go back to Sense 5, everything is better.
I dunno man. Sorry to hear it's not working as well for you.

Wifi Calling with Revolution HD?

Hi guys,
I have a T-Mobile HTC One and last night I unlocked, rooted, and flashed ARHD 30.0. I used to have the capability of Wifi calling, which T-Mobile offers for free. For those of you unfamiliar who may be familiar with a substitute, this feature allows users to call and text over Wifi, which is especially useful when service is unavailable.
Ever since I flashed the ROM, this feature doesn't show up in my settings. Does anyone know of a substitute that has the same or similar features? Also, does anyone know of the newest Revolution ROM that includes this capability? I'd like the newest possible ROM.
Thanks
I believe when T mobile release 4.3 for the One the devs will be able to include wifi calling in their ROMs. I don't know of any alternatives. 4.3 is supposed to go out on Monday so it shouldn't too much longer...
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
OK great. So you think it should be available in the next couple of weeks? Does Mike make these ROMs specifically for different carriers or is it a one ROM fits all kind of thing?
Also, if I flash a newer ROM, do I lose all my data on my phone? And if so, is there a way to backup and restore everything including my apps and settings?
I'm pretty new to this. Thanks for your help.
If you're on 4.1.2 right on you're going to get some annoying problems when first updating.
You'll most likely just want to do a complete wipe of your entire phone. (backup what you need)
There is a adb command you can run, check the trickdroid website there's a tutorial.
If we get an update Monday, Wi-Fi calling should be added relatively quickly to the existing ROMs. Like a day or two.

Ok great. Will the new Revolution HD ROM have a different version number? I just want to make sure I don't miss it. And when it is released, where will be the first place it will be announced? I'm very anxious to get my W-Fi calling back, since I have poor reception at school and work, but Wi-Fi is more readily available.

FYI, Insertcoin 5.0-5 incorporated the latest T-Mo update, and now has working Wi-fi calling on T-Mobile. ARHD will likely upgrade soon too, but these roms are somewhat similar and Insertcoin runs great. Here's a link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2279766
Hmm. I may have to try InsertCoin if Mike doesn't update his ROM. He just released a new version of ARHD (31.0) and it doesn't say anywhere that he's added WiFi calling. So I'm not sure if he is planning on doing it in the next couple of weeks or if he's just going to forget about it.

I bit the bullet and tried insert coin, not too impressed compared to trickdroid although it's probably just due to my ignorance.
No back4menu baked in
Seems a bit sluggish compared to trickdroid, which was already noticibly slower than when I first flashed it months ago
Didn't remove all the bloat I asked it to
Didn't allow my play store apps to auto d/l (weird one - tried two flashes and no dice, tried a different 4.3 rom and all my apps came right back)
That said, it is 4.3 with wifi calling but I'm still rolling back to 4.1.2 for now and sending trickdroids guy 10$ on paypal with a note about wifi calling

There's a 4.3 Rom by beholdthis, I think, that has Wi-Fi calling and works perfectly well. And it's customizable with add-ons.

Hmmm I came from Trickdroid, then ARHD and have stayed on Insertcoin; zero lag here and no problems auto downloading apps at all. Also Xposed mods work too. But, everyone has their rom preferences, so good luck!
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. behold_this's ROM looks promising, but I messaged mike and he said wifi calling "will come" so I think I'm going to hold off for a few more weeks and hopefully he'll have made the ROM by then.
 Good to know im actually looking for a rom with wifi calling since i dont have great coverage where i live. ill check the mentioned roms out, although was really interested on pacman rom
I will be keeping an eye out for this as well. I sent a PM to the developer for AR HD a day or so ago asking, but no response yet.
I'm no developer, but this seems like it would be pretty simple and quick to implement the WiFi calling feature from the stock T-Mobile ROM which came out almost three weeks ago. I'm really surprised it isn't out yet, especially as he seems to know that people are waiting for it. Then again, most of us aren't paying him for his work. I just don't know how much longer to wait... I seem to have terrible service and WiFi all the time.

It's not as easy as you might think. To implement Wi-Fi calling into a rom the base HAS to be the tmobile base. It's not as easy as ripping an apk out.

Um, is that exactly what we have now that the 4.3 update has been pushing HTC One Roms?

Just because the 4.3 update has pushed out doesnt mean a dev is using it as the base. Some are, some arent.

VZW N3 KK - Radio Signal SUCKS!

Verizon Note 3
Purchased Brand New back in November
I've had zero signal issues phones entire life on 4.3 however since upgrading to K.K it's been awful like honestly terrible. I have areas in my house now where I have zero service period, never had that problem before. Also ongoing not a one night thing.
Happens on multiple KK based roms not just one example, also tried NC2, NC4 and now back on MJE radio and signal still sucks... is anyone else experiencing this? It was fine on 4.3 then out of the blue turned to crap
Also WiFi / Bluetooth have been flawless just cell radio in general sucks now, not just 4G either I barely get 3g anymore in areas and can't even send text messages
Same here
I have been dealing with the same thing. I can't ever remember having any issues with any Verizon device in the areas that I normally travel. Since taking the update, I run into problems everywhere. Almost to the point where I want to go to a different phone.
Same. Exact. Thing. Here.

I can't remember where I found it but there is a build prop edit to tweak the radios. I did it 3 months ago and it has stuck through the kk update to nc3. Try Google samsung galaxy note 3 radio tweak or poor signal. Sorry I can't remember.

Go to this site. Download all of the radios. But I am going to say that the MJE radio will be the one that will give you back your consistent connection. You will need Odin. If you end up having any difficult time downloading any of the items off this address. I could send you everything via drive or what not. Just hit me up in a PM. I just have to figure out how to turn on PM notifications. Otherwise I will forget to check if I have any. Any way, hope this works for you. Also, to the person that posted the idea about there being some kind of tweak to the build prop, try to find that link and post it here. Reason being is that the newer radios enable the newest higher frequency bands. And allows for greater speeds. But, obviously they suck. So if I could get the newer radio and make the phone get better signal and not drop network. Than I would rather do that. As I am sure others here would as well. And assuming those others have Root on their devices. Any way, I am just rambling on. I'm off to bed. I have to go to work soon and then get home so as can drop the sub frame on my car to replace my rear motor mount.

Same exact problem. I can have 2 bars signal. Hit send for a call and watch the bars go to zero then doesn't even connect.
I've been on the MJE radio. You can find the MJE modem tar in the Verizon Note 3 Android Development section, the post is by BeansTown106.
Regardless of what people say about modems and signal, etc.. NC2 and NC4 were subpar for me. MJE is stable and I get excellent signal and data speeds.
I'll try that radio today thanks
Yes my signal is awful even with mje radio on 4.4.2 as well. time to roll back. Its like I'm on sprint network.....

I'm in the same boat and it's very frustrating I just got off a call with verizon and they wanted to put me through all of this bs to troubleshoot and reset my phone so I said no thanks and got off the phone.
I've had the same issue. I'm currently on JasmineROM1.5
Here's what I did and it fixed the issue for me. Go to Settings/more settings/mobile networks/network mode. Mine said Global. Change it to what I have in the pic. Reboot. Mine is good to go now.

I have noticed a difference between how KitKat and Jelly Bean handle radios. In 4.3, the phone would quickly get a mobile data connection (i.e. working data, as shown by the solid white 1X/3G/4G symbol in the status bar) on any network type and even at very low signals. Since KitKat, the phone does not want to connect to data on 3G as much or 1X most of the time. It will just stay there with the connection type grayed out (indicating no data) even though the signal could be 3 bars.
As I had only upgraded to NC2, the phone is back on MJE and will likely remain there unless what is after KK doesn't break more stuff (like VPN, which is still broken on Samsung devices). After rolling back to MJE I can confirm that radio performance is equally bad (or good) as before I updated to KK.
The GF is using my Note 3 and works in a very low signal area (flips between an unusable 1 bar of 3G, 1-2 bars of 1X, and no signal). Other devices like Moto phones and the 5S get 1 bar of LTE there or 3 bars of 3G, and there are people even tethering away. She can't call, send/receive texts, or do anything else so it is useless at work.
Hey guys thank you for all the replys and I will definitely take a look at the responses more in depth when I have a moment.
Just some things I've noticed
It's not just me, apparently there is a lot of feedback of others with the same issue
I HAVE swapped modem files specifically all while staying on a KK based rom I've tried NC2 NC4 and now MJE radio and they all suck when using the KK software even though the MJE radio was fine on 4.3 for me
Given that others are reporting it, I find it hard to believe that my phone is defective / hardware related and it must be something in the firmware/KK specifically
It's gotten to a point where I need to take immediate action. My wife called me this morning and I was not even notified, my phone never rang period and I have nothing in my call logs but my phone was on the entire day with, quote fingers, ""signal"" and this never happened previous. God forbid something bad happened and she is unable to reach me due to a software defect. That is a BIG deal, I didn't even know she tried to call me 4 times in a row until she got home later that night and asked why I didn't pick up, I said what do you mean? It never rang
I'm debating on going back to 4.3 as a whole until the issue is identified and resolved unless any other solutions come out... I'm all about having fun and flashing roms but when my wife can't reach me when she needs me and I get ripped a new asshole things need to stop lol

this is not a solution but thought i would post what happened to me.
had N3 since launch and no signal issues
upgraded to KK Stock NC2 leak and had no signal issues
upgraded to NC4 firmware to fix reboot issue for recovery etc.. and HAD signal issues - BAD "No mobile Network" where it used to work perfectly
tried MJE Radio switched back and forth and all over and had signal issues still
tried a full NAND restore and complete factory reset and still had signal issues
ordered a replacement that came with MJE and NO signal issues - worked like it was working on release date
upgraded to NC4 Jasmine rom and did the NC4 firmware upgrade again - worried i would have same results but NO signal issue
now can switch to any KK rom with my NC4 and NO signal issue
i can not explain why the NC4 upgrade killed my release date N3 signal and the replacement N3 has no issues but something has to be related to me getting a newer device is all i can guess
Just wanted to say I'm in the same boat. Since updating my signal has been abysmal and it's killing my battery. I even got a new Sim card, no change. These radios really suck.
I actually hated MJE, such a horrible radio. I'm actually running hyperdrive with MJ7 and loving the signal quality. Though I specifically use MJ7 since I had the best signal for Band 4 with it. I thought NC2 was okay, but I tried it out only for a few hours once I found out you could change radios.

This is something that has been bothering me on these boards. The definition of firmware is applied 3 ways and nobody references which way they are using the term.
Firmware seems to mean any or all of these 3 when in most cases it is firmware=bootloader/modem
1. To all of the software as a whole
2. To just the bootloader
3. To just the os, rom, distro of android
Now I have seen you here quite often and know your not a noob when it comes to this but...
You upgraded to the nc2 bootloader you would have used odin to do this.
you then odin the nc4 bootloader to fix an issue with ss (does not make much sense as you needed to wait for a new version of SS for this to be fixed...work around being reboot the phone then click recovery in the 10 second boot window)
you switched modems nothing fixed it
you then did a nand restore which would have only restored the /system, /data, /cache partitions not the /boot odin would be required to change that
It seems to me that your other phone had a bad bootloader flash.

The only thing i am watching for now is the charging cause i have it plug in for almost 2 hours and still on 34% , i will keep watching it cause i am not using any application at the moment to seehow long it take to complete charge and how much will take to drain the same ,but NO COMPLAIN about it. Keep It going.

try flashing a different modem/radio. I had to swap out ril related files from base to port to get data working. do you have any APN settings? if so try to set it to the first apn which is metropcs I believe.

yes its for att but originally for tmobile. that wasn't the case for me and I'm with T-Mobile if it matters. I didn't do anything special to get data thus the reason I said try a different radio. just to throw it out there I'm on blazes ICS modem I believe at least I think I am since it says unknown baseband in device info and just happens to be the only one I have stored on my internal.

How is Bluetooth with this ROM? I know that some other ROMs have Bluetooth dropout/crashout issue, and that the BlownFuze AOKP ROM (which I've been using for quite some time) has no issues whatsoever. I can deal with the other issues (camera, screen flicker) but really need confidence in the Bluetooth performance before I can consider switching.

perfectly understandable as for your question I don't use BT but I did manage to pair my note with my galaxy for a good 15-20 minutes so I'd say it works. no screen flickering as I included the patch into the build.prop, performance wise I can't complain haven't had any major issues while I was running it. actually you caught me at the right time was just about to give the 8/12 build of PAC a try. almost forgot to mention camera seems to be good as well. let me know if you run into any issues with any thing.

Thanks for the update. I find that BT can sometimes work for a few hours, sometimes a day or two before it gives out (on a bad ROM) - when it flakes out you have no choice but to reboot to get it back which is a pain when you're driving.

I use this ROM with 2 different Samsung BT headsets. I will occasionally receive a message that the BT service has stopped/died. Fortunately, BT continues to work after I toggle it off and back on. I haven't had to reboot yet to get it to work. The previous ROM I used before this one would regularly kill BT and require a reboot for it to begin working again.
Tried this out, Bluetooth seems to have the same issues as ever other non blown fuse ROM, namely needs reboot every third or forth pairing and often can't cycle BT on then off correctly.
Back to bf aokp .
