[Q] Music apps hang when opened - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I accquired a 128 GB SD card a while back after losing my iPod. This was put into my phone hoping it could be a worthy replacement and also more practical that I would only need one device to carry around all the time. My problem however is that most music apps if not all are really slow to browse and they also trigger the "Do you want to close the application" dialogue when they are launched. They eventually respond, but having to wait for that each time is really cumbersome.
Is there anything I can do to get a faster experience with music players in general? I mostly use shuttle+, but other players are really slow to use aswell. I do have a big library of about 100 gigs and about 15k songs, so maybe that plays a part.

Even your laptop will have delay to load 100GB of data! and maybe freeze if load them immediately.\
anyway If you think there is unusual delay in media play app first check the sd-card format
(format it to FAT32)
and also tell about sd-card detail? brand? is it C10/U1?
> for stock music play (Walkman)
- clear cache/data and force stop then install the latest update (you can find simply by a search)
- If it doesn't help try to repair firmware of phone by PC companion
> for 3rd party music player
- just contact its developer (tell them about amount of data + details of sd-card and phone)
:good:

It's formatted to exFAT, isn't that supposed to be suitable? It's a 128GB sandisk C10 card. Regarding the amount of data, it doesn't play slowly on any computer. I can easily make a library of the songs in itunes and play songs with album art etc without any issues. The walkman application, while good, doesn't have thumb scrolling meaning that it will take ages to go through several thousand artists. Shuttle+ has this along with many other players. Clearing cache etc. doesn't fix it, neither does a soft/hard reset of the phone.

[Q] Music skipping Xperia Neo

Not an unusual problem by the looks of it but sooooo annoying and soooo many options to try and fix the problem.
(edit - just to clarify, its more of a skidding than a skipping - the sound/rhythm is stretched and short of shudders like when a CPU is under-load with other apps running, but I've currently got over 100MB at idle.)
I've read the following forum which has so many options in it and a lot of good info so I'm going to slowly work through a few of the options with my Xperia and see what might solve the skipping issue.
http://androidforums.com/incredible-support-troubleshooting/72913-music-player-skipping-cause.html
I initially started using the stock player that came with the Neo and noticed it skipping every now and then but then yesterday when coming home from a music festival with a few new albums it came to time to STOP the skipping.
I always copy files from original CD's at the highest quality and then drag and drop them directly into the folder on the SD card to cut out any other application adding its musical interpretation into the tracks with missed data and timing etc (this is a practice I started years ago so hopefully the tracks are the best they can be)
So from here I start fiddling with the device......
1) I noticed that I dont get any skipping when using ES File Explorer to play the files but the problem ES File explorer is that it doesn't appear to have a shortcut directly to its media player and I dont want to have to go hunting for files EVERY time I want to play music.
2) So now I've started Meridian just as a test and it definately made an improvement = less skipping but still some
3) So I"ve moved Meridian to System App as suggested in the Forum and I'm running the player and keeping a close ear on it to see if it skips.
If it does the next step will be to start using "AnTuTu CPU Master Free" and setting it to start from boot and set it to raise the minimum processor level to around 400 MHz
If anybody who actually knows about this stuff has any ideas I'd be interested in hearing them.
I dont know why EX file explorer plays the files better than anything else I've tried - I have made it a system (ages ago) but I would also like to know what it uses for media playing? is it using its own complete of settings or whatevers? or is it piggy backing off the standard player? If I uninstall the standard player will ES still work?
If ES is using its own settings - how does it take control of things so well that the skipping stops?
What other media players take majority of control and ----------dam it just skipped, so I'm rewinding to see if its the track.............nope---------(ok onto the next plan and increasing processor idle speed.
4) Increased Idle speed to as close to 400 as I can and 3 min later - still skipping! c##p
Now what? I'm going to go away and think about this some more - if anyone has any ideas please let me know.
I'm trying to replicate your fault but so far its been playing pretty well, Havn't noticed any skipping, stutters or whatever for the last hour or so.. I did notice a slight jitter when I first started up the music player (Stock) but that was just on startup.. now its rock solid.
you might have some service/App running in the background thats causing some CPU strain or memory hogging momentarily.. I would suggest checking your logcat either with adb terminal or an app that can show you your logcat. check this to see if your getting any low memory warnings or any other errors.
I'll start up a bunch of services and apps and see if I can get my music to skip, Ill also search my music collection for the highest bitrate files I can find (might be that I just use lower bitrate MP3's and so they don't strain the RAM and CPU as much as your high bitrate ones)
I'll let you know if I can get my music skipping like yours.

I've experienced this before, turns out it was the SD Speed Increase app settings that was causing the trouble. Apparently, if I change the setting to anything other than the stock (128 [bytes allocation unit?]), my music would randomly stutter/skid. Left it to stock and never installed it again. I hope this helps.
I've had it too, using UberMusic and CPU Tuner. The problem is not the minimum cpu speed, because the cpu will be running full speed when the screen is on (or more than the minumum). With the screen off profile, my cpu is running at 122MHz, and still no stuttering.
I think the problem is caused by low RAM. Uninstall any unneccesary app and try if the problem persists when you're not multitasking.
I've experienced the same problem a few times using stock music player.. but recently I downloaded google music and never experienced it again... you might want to try this app since it's made by google and ui design is awesome!(ics like)
I've been listening to music for 3 straight hours now, I've managed to get it to stutter twice, once opening a news app (CPU strain while updating web pages?) and once when I opened a file explorer (I repeated that action several times since and couldn't get it to repeat the fault) logcat on both occasions mentioned an error: DMAMISSED 32 for the audio driver. In computer terms DMA means "direct memory access" or the newer version Ultra DMA. this is a little chip that accesses external memory (firstly directed by the CPU but then it frees the CPU up to do other stuff while its reading away, kinda like having a second cpu just for reading your music, but it still needs to get commands from the CPU) and I'm guessing that the missed 32 error is the DMA not getting the message from the CPU in time, perhaps the CPU is busy with something else? or whatever, I'm going to suggest running lower bitrate mp3's and see if it still stutters as much (if at all) try ripping a cd at or under 192kbps stereo or even 128kbps.. What bitrate are you running now? 320kbps? Or variable bitrate? Still not sure if its the problem but would help to eliminate it.
DMA Errors could also be caused by an SD card fault.. might be worth trying another card and seeing if it stutters.

I wouldn't have a clue about this bit-rate thing your talking about - how do I check this?
I've also stopped using the CPU minimum speed thing because I think it caused my phone to totally crash and not display any menu's at all - so had to re-install from clockwork mod boot.
When I'm listening to music I'm not ever doing anything in the background with the phone - it just sits on the table or on the seat of the car - this is when it skips.

thanks for the feedback - currently I have 61 mB free on ROM and 86 MB internal and then 1.37 GB on SD. Also I'm not doing anything else with the phone when the skidding occurs.

Situation summary..............
1) Minimum processor speed app removed due to possible fatal error and notes above suggesting no difference (which is what I thought also).
2) SD speed increase app removed
3) Still running Meridian player due to user friendliness and less skidding - (might go back to stock app to help create more skidding so I can isolate the problem.
4) Track bit-rates might be too high - I will try this as a last resort once I've tried the other options.
5) Try another SD card - hmmm maybe I'll try this another day when I've got some spare cash
In my case, the track bit rates aren't a problem since I often have 320kbps and variable bit rate mp3 files being played in the stock music player and I experience no jitter/skidding.
Ok -
* Instant skidding using Stock Media player with "SD speed increase" app uninstalled.
I'm also running
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.freeb.automm
Would this cause skidding?
Now I'm going to re-rip the CD I'm listening to at a lower rate and see how that goes.
----right I've done that and also realized that when I put the original music files on my phone I hadn't converted them from WAV to MP3 so they were huge files. I've now re-ripped the cd in WAV and then converted the files to MP3 so now the files are approx 3 MB instead of 30 MB.
So now I will play them on the stock player and see how they respond.
that has been happening to me ever since i updated to .42 and i didnt know whether it was because i was fiddling with the phone (rooting, installing ics them which .62 reset to SE GRRR ) or whether it was just the amount of music and i had recently added Kasabians new album Velociraptor .. it was really ("was" hehe) especially because i would play it in the car connecting it to a jack lead on my radio .. and it was driving (no pun intended lol) me mad .. but then today i found my mini mp3 dock and though id plug it in and whack a few songs Foo Fighters and the like .. and I swear it didnt jump/skid/skip/slip once .. it was perfect .. and this was all before i updated to .62 about 10mins ago .. hopefully its all ok .. gotta check and make sure its still rooted

Thanks for your input.....are you trying to say that you dont get any skipping when you use the mini mp3 dock rather than the jack lead?
I get skidding both through the lead and through Bluetooth.
Since reducing the size and format of the files I've not had any skidding or skipping.

Phone hang while playing music

I encountered a problem with my SGS2 GT-i1900G. My phone tends to hang while I'm listening to music using headphone.Usually it stuck when the phone was in standby mode. I'm a newbie, please give me some advise. I had tried to store my music on external sd and also internal storage but the problem still occurred.I had tried all the best that I can includes:-
1. Factory recovery.
2. Close down all unused apps.
Please. I need help
Delete the cache your music / wipe the dalvik cache via recovery
if u thank me then i will thank you ( 이 승 기 )
S2 hang while listening to music
Glad i found someone else encounter the same issue.
It happened to me as well while on earphone and phone went idling. I am also on S2 I9100G. When this happens, i need to take out the battery too.
I have changed a couple of memory card. From kingston to sandisk.
Nothing works. At first, i thought it was memory card but if like the OP mentioned. It happened to internal memory. It will happen all the time.
I am using the default music player. I notice that the player would not play in background because once you press the phone button. The music player stop.
My next trial would be using the winamps player and not the default player to see if this still happen. Winamp (widget) allows simultaneous running of other thing while listening to music.
Hope someone found a solution for this. It looks like a manufacturer defects. Either hardware or software.
I'm having this issue too, hope it gets fixed
Tried winamps, same thing.
I have tried winamps. Same problem still.
This sucks.
strangr u all using the default smmy headphones???????try a diff one and post the result
I have used different headphones with my s2 but the problem still there!...wht i think when ur using mobile network switch from 3G to 2G e.g, music player get hangs...

[Q] Browser not responding?

So.. I got a new Prime and my buddy accidentally upgraded it to .21. It's completely stock. I had a few questions.
1) Is the browsing with flash on always this bad? Every once in a while it says Browser not responding. It also freezes very often, but only for a second or so. What is going on? II tried putting it in Performance mode but that doesn't help either. I read somewhere that ATP Tweak fixes this issue? What do you guys think about browsing on the ATP.
2) Wifi + Bluetooth streaming crashes if the video is HD. Once it crashes, i have to reboot the Prime to get it working again. I use a SE MW600 headset. I have had no problems whatsoever with Wifi dropout or reconnects.
3) How can i disable auto-rotate on the lock screen? It is very annoying.
4) Does having a fast micro SD (class 6/10) in the slot generally enhance the performance? For cache or VRAM purposes, may be?
5) Is it normal if my REAL micro SD is sticking out a lot more than the dummy one?
1) Yes. The browser freezing issue is a known one. If you have Flash set to ON it will be worse. Try setting your Flash plugin to "On Demand" which will allow you to interact with Flash content by clicking on it instead of it auto starting as the page loads. Also I have found the browser freezing issue to be much less of a problem by using Boat Browser available in the Play Store.
2) You didn't actually ask a question here However I don't have a problem watching HD video and streaming it to a set of bluetooth headphones. If your video player is crashing try resetting the video player app by deleting all of its data under App Management. If that doesn't help try doing a factory reset on the tablet.
3) I don't know. I don't think you can right now.
4) Not really. The SD card or microSD card has practically nothing to do with system performance. The Prime has its own internal RAM and doesn't use the SD card as a swap disk or anything like that. Having a faster microSD card can make your photos load quicker in Gallery if there are a lot of photos stored on the card. Also if you are recording video or photos directly to the card a fast card can help. However I am using a 32GB Class 4 and I have had zero problems recording 30min+ HD videos directly to the card so I doubt that spending the extra money on a Class 10 card will give you any meaningful performance benefits for the extra money you would be spending.
SD cards and microSD cards are a mixed bag anyway. Some companies Class 10 cards perform worse than other company's Class 2 cards. There isn't a meaningful regulating body making sure that card ratings are accurate so it is best to look for cards that have the most positive reviews.
5) Yes. Dummy cards are meant to protect the slot and are almost always smaller than actual SD cards.

[Q] Amaze music player will not play full mp3?

Amaze music player will not play full mp3?
OK all; I’ve had this issue with both of my phones (one went swimming). It didn’t bother me so much before as I had not yet did the full merge for phone only use of music. NOW that I am using my cell as mp3 player like I should, this bugs the **** out of me!!! ***ANY help or knowledge on this matter will save me from doing another destructive test! *****
What happens is when I play any mp3 file that is longer than a normal or standard track it switches to the next track without finishing the current one. Such as a 1.5 hr continuous mix, around ten minutes in it switches to the next mp3 file (whether it’s a downloaded noise for ring tone, or the beginning of another track). Sucks with earbuds in on a quiet track and then BAM-a loud track –or vice versa –totally makes me wanna throw this $500 cell!!
I have tried using the google player, the other music player, switching from cell hard drive to removable card—does not make any difference. It will play single normal tracks of course but they are not as long and does not have the time to skip ahead.
One of the main reasons I am using the phone is for the ability to skip through long tracks/mixes. I don’t know if it is an amaze issue, android issue, sd card format issue, music placement on card issue or what. I have tried many things and am willing to do whatever it takes if someone knows a fix. A diff music program/root? I have a stock cell now.
It will happen when I am using headphones or plugged into car audio .
I sure hope someone has come across this ! Thanks in advance for any response!
Anyone? I mean, have any of you tried to play an eBook mp3? Maybe a school lecture? A long DJ mix? ----and have it play all the way through? Like past 10 minutes?
Maybe you have shake to shuffle enabled.. otherwise my long EDC mixes play just fine I think
Just for you I played a 1hr+ MP3 on a 32Gb class 10 card,
27 mins in, playing fine. Try copying your tracks to your internal memory or re-converting them from CD?

Thank you sooooooo much for a reply! And EDC type muze is exactly what I am talking about! I tried it again w/ a long mix and at 10 min 26 sec every time BAM-skips to nxt track or sound. I have headphones plugged in and cell is still on desk (no movement) so no shaky. Where do you have your files? on an sd card or phone memory? Are they listed in folders? Any details will help !!!! If yours is working then mine should!!! aaaaaaarrrgh!

THANKS FOR TESTING FOR ME!!! yeah mine again --10min 27 sec switches? I too have a 32gb card. i have played them on the cell mem and sd card with same response. The tracks that i am referring to are actually not on a disc but only a file so cannot re-convert. They play as they shld everywhere but on cell. I dont know if there is a time out feature/limit? But i have not found one. I have taken them out of folders and put just on the drive main page to see if there is a change ( at s/o request) but there is no diff. Where do you store you mp3 files and how if I may ask? THANKS AGAIN for your time!!!!! This is so frustrating to me for an otherwise very pleasant phone!

THANKS! I shall DL that app right now. One more question...where are your music files located on your SD card? Are they in a folder? If so what do you have it labeled as? (dont know if that makes any difference). Or are the mp3 files just "ON" the cards "main menu" screen that comes up when you access the SD card, and not in a folder? Thanks again for your time and response!

Yeah, created a file on root of the SD called "Music"
GL, hope it works
Ohhhhhhhhh laaaaaaaaaawd
OHHHHHHHHH MY LAAAAAAAAAAWD HAVE MERCY ON ME !!! I couldn't, nay.......shouldn't just simply bow out of my thread with my tail b/t my legs--without an explanation. It was some sort of corrupted mp3 files! 3 of them. All from the same source. They played fine everywhere but the Amaze. I played others that were from a diff source and they will play through no problem. So I went back to the files and monitored as well as listen closely and there is a slight hiccup at the 10:26 time, which in effect would trigger something in the Amaze with 3 diff music players, to skip forward. But does not affect playing on a PC or CD.
It was fueled by the emotion I had towards these mixes and I HAD to have them and hear them!! I should have tried others more effectively.
Thank you two for your help, even though it was me at fault on this end.
On a positive note this has inspired me to go ahead and root my Amaze. This will be my first root. There are some awesome ROMS out there, now...I just have to pick one.
Thanks again for your time and response's, all is well with the Amaze.

Music just keeps stoping

Hi guys
Getting fed up every time I try to play my music it keeps stopping and I have to keep restarting the music.
I do not have my phone rooted at all.
Does anyone know why it's happening.
Thanks for any help guys

I have this problem as well, I figured it was because all my music was on a Class 2 SD card and the player would stop if the next file didn't load quick enough.
It only plays so much of the song then stops.
But I installed TSF launcher and played the music with no problems at all hmmmmm.
So what's going on?

yes i've experienced that random stop in previous XXALEF.
and no it's not because of the microsd card because i have a class 6 not class 2 as mentioned here. and i've used this microsd full of mp3s in my previous phones.
never experienced it again on XXALF6.
I'm on XXALF2
like I said my phone is not rooted at all.

Did you try a different music player?
Not yet will give it a try

Likely you are experiencing this due to low RAM. If you installed a new launcher and it works fine then the Touchwiz launcher probably uses a lot of RAM causing music to stop.

I've only ever had this in the past using faulty headphones. Maybe not related to your issue though but never know.

Given up using my phone for music because of this, all music players gave me issues whilst browsing, just listen to the radio now. Crap. I'd try a reboot though, helped me shirt term.
You can always try on another rom (with more RAM free). Or try other headphones just in case
I have had this on a few occasions with the default player .What i discovered was a message flashed up (not persistent notification so probably missed it before) saying no track exists or track not found. Cant recall exactly the message but looking into it realised some tracks were in different formats so basically player couldn't read them so instead of moving to next shuffled track player just stops.
Other thing is some of my music files are in bit of a mess due to importing to SD cards ,phones etc using various apps and methods few wav Flac aac in the mix to.
So just an idea to check your music files with a file manger see everything is in order and which formats though i think default player is meant to play most formats.
Personally i mostly use Poweramp have for few years on devices, like the default player but cant scrobble and prefer widget with no background
I'd say this is a problem with the software. I have had this problem as well. Samsung will need to look into this for sure. If my music gets interrupted at all, i have to kill the process and start it again. I'm not sure if the problem lies in communication between BT, aux jack or what.
Maybe its due to the motion control..Go to settings>Motion>Go to "Turn over to mute/pause" option> Turn it off> Might solve the problem, Not sure!:silly:
Also try turning off "Palm touch to mute/pause" option in "Settings>Motion" itself

Interesting, think you maybe on to something with that palm touch thing, after all I've taken loads of screenshots in my pocket..
After upgrading my phone to ZSALF1 (hong kong bought), this seems to have fixed the problem with the music starting.
Incidentally, I also turned off the motion to capture the screen as I also had taken screenshots in my pocket. Annoying.
Cheers
