Are you also using a different cable?
Try to change your cable instead of your charger and battery happened to me before and it was USB cable.

Is there any good reason for the battery to drain while its plugged in charger while i use the phone?!
i was on %15 battery, plugged to charger (it kept showing the whole time the "charging icon", kept using it (just browsing some apps, nothing heavy) and whoops, after 15 minutes the phone shuts down because battery died
wtf?
this is really worrying me
i just got the phone 3 days ago..
This is not normal at all, did you check your task manager, was your phone very hot?
Since it turned off where you able to turn it on again ? After charging of course.
When the battery low sign comes up it says not to use your phone when charging, i think its not good for the battery? But I've done it before and mine charges. U might have a faulty charger? Take it back.

The only thing that can reportedly do that is like Plants vs Zombies or some intensive game. Weird... Run your task manager and see what's taking up your CPU?
I was having same problem when using the **** samsung charger..anyway since my samsung charger is already dead..im using my htc charger with a 1 amp output...no more problems..even at a very low state of battery..i can still charge and watch streaming movies over the net.

i have an update:
yes the task manager looked fine BUT yes it was VERY VERY hot so what happens is that the phone turned off because of 0% battery, then i turned it on after like 30 seconds, and i kept using it EVEN MORE than i did (plugged to the charger) and it started to cool down and the battery DID charge, it didnt happen again.
i dont know what was running in the background, but i saw nothing at running applications and servers.
that was scary..
Hey guys..
I noticed something weird on my galaxy s3. Whenever i charge my device till 100% and take it off from charger, it goes down to 99% immediatly. I thought it could be a bug in my current rom so i flashed another one. But the buf still exists. I even changed kernels. Still same problem. I am running latest foxhound rom
+franco r5 kernel right now.
Is there any solution for this bug?
Hope someone can help me.
Best regards

It is not a bug, that's how it is made.
If the phone charged to 100% and sat there for a long time, the battery would lose charge cycles and life faster. So what it does, is one of two things:
It will either NEVER actually charge to 100%, or
It will charge to 100%, take itself off the charger to about 95%, and then charge again to 100%, over and over.
HTC does the second one, I think the S3 does the first.
Thanks for the answer.
I didnt know that. Its just so weird because on every of my previous phones the battery stayed on 100%.
But anyways thanks

I know, I don't like it either haha. Some phones will even say "100%" right off the charger even if they're not actually at 100%, which is why sometimes you see people that take their phone off the charger at 100% and a few minutes later they are at 95, etc.
There have been a lot of questions about this in sammy roms, and also in the s1. And it got me thinking about it this way.
As soon as you disconnect the phone from the charger it's dropped to 99%. But in my head, I say it has had to have even used the most minimal amount of juice and is 'technically' no longer at 100%.
Some are saying other phones are reporting batteries on 100% for up to an hour after disconnecting from the charger. That might look great, but there is no way that is correct either, because it has to have used some juice in that hour.
Maybe samsung don't like pandering to the needs of the masses re battery use reporting. Maybe sammy is the only one reporting a correct level.
Me, I don't care. My phone lasts just fine. Are you getting better battery life than your last phone? Haven't I read that the 1x has ordinary battery life? Does it's percentage stay at 100% for a long time? If so, that would be a bit of a rip off to me.
I know sammy have included the option to show the battery percentage within the settings of the s3. I don't use it, and my battery indicator stays at 100% until the battery reaches about 90%. Works for me.
Batteries never charge to 100% anyways to avoid the battery over-charging and exploding

Charge stops at 54%
Hi,
My SIII e fully stock and a few days now it does not charge past 54%. i tried to drain the battery completely and charge it after ant same thing happened. I can leave it overnight charging and it stops at 54%. Any solutions?
Thanks,
I just got a Samsung Battery Charger/Stand with Battery & have just charged the new battery with it, swapped it for the old one that had just run out when I noticed something weird...
The new battery was showing up as 100% for about 15 minutes. During which time I had the screen on for 3 minutes at full brightness.
What does that mean??
I've never seen 100% for any more than a second after I've unplugged the phone.
I'm assuming there's some difference between the batteries and the stats that are in the phone for the battery. I've used the Battery Calibration app before, when changing roms on my old phone, and that would sort out little anomalies. Do I need to use battery calibration every time I switch batteries?
Will this work itself out?
Will this swapping negatively affect my phone in anyway?
I thank you in advance for your help/suggestions
The phone has logic to not let the battery charge to 100% for too long. The charger does not. Battery calibration apps do nothing.

So... the charger over charged the battery?
Will that damage it?

I posted the same thing in the morning on another thread. Great mind think alike! Haha
Well to me it doesn't mean anything wrong really. Just that the phone doesn't fully charge the battery for safety or maybe heat reasons. Who knows? If samsung desktop charger is approved by samsung its good enough to me.

Guess your right.
So yours was saying 100% for unusually long as well?

It did on my new one for about 5min. Only but I had wifi on and screen and doing some work. It Wasatch new battery and didn't think much of it. I would say that even that was way more than the immediate 99% once off the charger on the phone

Just read your earlier post. Seems strange that the external charger charges more than the phone. I guess I can't complain about a few extra minutes!

One of my usual days with the battery charged up in the morning on he desktop charger, and I'm now 8 almost and have 72% when previously I was getting about 60% around this time

Hey, so is it a good idea to charge overnight? I've heard that the charger may overheat and melt the usb port or something like that. So do you guys charge the phone overnight or not?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Its a bad idea.
usually ppl do keep their mobile phones on charge at the night and unplug it off at morning.
recently even i've asked the same question to the salesman of the samsung company he suggestes me not to do that cause it may harm your battery.

Hey, how you doing bud?
You rooted yet? Lol.......
I don't think the phone will overheat if your not using it at the time but it can shorten battery life a little leaving it on charge for longer than necessary, mine doesn't seem too bad with this setup I'm on now my temp never goes over 35° but before this setup i was getting temps of up to 55° when charging and using the phone at the same time. Don't think thats what caused my problems i told you about with chargers burning out though as the last one happened just as i plugged it into a cold phone.
I've always charged every phone I've ever had at night and haven't ever seen battery life go down on any phone i've owned. Not saying i recommend it but its never caused me any harm.

I have charged my phone for 8 hours over night EVERY night since I bought it (beginning of March), and the battery life is excellent.
Last time I looked at battery stats (yesterday) I had 1d 16hrs time on battery and 3hrs 53mins of screen on time, with normal usage.
My normal use is: about 1 hour music, 1.5hours internet browsing, texts, calls, flashing zips etc
So in short, with my experience overnight charging doesn't harm the battery at all

Not yet, will hopefully get to it in the next weeks. Real busy atm. And unlike on wildfire I don't feel an immediate need to do it

you can charge your phone all night, on condition that you must ensure your phone chager is original, if so, you can do it, as the original chager can adjust the voltage of the phone battery. if not, it is very dangerous to your phone.
Since a few days my phone doesn't charge good.
When I charge my phone over night, it get's to 50% but not any higher.
The phone charges really slow.
I've tried my old htd desire charger end the normal samsung charger, but it make no difference.
What can be the problem?
The charger, battery or the phone itself?
It`s most likely the battery, make sure the terminals on the battery and in the phone are clean.
An Anker battery is around $10-15 , but NFC is reported not to work with it, or an original Samsung battery is around $25

Is your phone slow charging, OR normal charging but fast discharging?? Think about it.. go to battery section in the settings, and post a screenshot
