Hi all. I just unlocked the bootloader and rooted my old evo 3d. The phone was freezing quite often so I though running a custom ROM might fix it. I have been unable to find a ROM for my h-boot. Are there any available or am I out of luck? Thanks.

You can try any ICS sense rom (Coolexe, YAS, ...).
Just be shure to have 4ext recovery installed with smartflash on.

Thank you Tom. I'll look into installing that recovery. I have twrp on both of my other htc's and find flashing Roms easy. This device is a little harder.

I just searched for 4ext recovery and found it in an apk file. Does it also come as an .IMG file that can be flashed through boot loader? I had installed twrp and I am stuck on a boot loop. I tried to restore but it will not. Thanks.

here you go (see attachment)
Thanks again. I did manage to find it, but have to re search to find the correct commands to flash it onto my SD and them install. I know the recovery commands. Will check when I get back home.

Thanks again tom. I managed to flash 4ext recovery and then coolexe ROM. Working good so far. Will have to check out some other Roms and mods. Cheers!

I'm wondering how to flash a CM ROM on my phone without s-off. I know I have to go through fastboot but can someone give me a thread or something.
Sent from my HTCEVOV4G using xda app-developers app
I dont think its possible without S-Offing, since they require different Hboots.

What I'm asking is if I can go through fastboot to get it to flash
Sent from my HTCEVOV4G using xda app-developers app
fastboot is used to flash the boot partition. This is only useful for sense roms if you are s-on. For CM and aosp based roms you also require a different hboot and changing hboot is only possible with s-off.
I hope you get what I'm trying to say here. you cant run CM without gaining s-off first. There are some excellent guides in the general section on getting s-off. Trust me, it will save you a lot of hassle in the long run

Ok I guess that was the question I was getting at in the first place. I was just wondering if there was a way around the s-off roming situation. Thank you though.
Sent from my HTCEVOV4G using xda app-developers app
Simple steps you can do is use 4ext with smart flash on.
After flashing the rom and gapps.
extract the boot.img file from the ROM.zip and place it in your fastboot directory.
Next use this command to flash the kernel.
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Reboot.
Ok any way I can do this ON MY PHONE? just wondering?

Hi everyone, I recently (as in last night) rooted and unlocked my htc evo 4g lte when i found out that htc will no longer be updating the device. I decided to take things into my own hands.
First of all, I unlocked via HTC dev and rooted with su 1.55. I also had Twrp 2.6.1 Everything was good up to this point.
I looked around for the best rom that was stable and I choose CM10.1.
I flashed the rom and not the kernel thinking i didnt have to. After the rom booted with the touch screen disabled or not working I quickly used the recovery i had made before doing all of this. After doing this over about 3 times i learned that you had to flash the kernel. I went and found the kernal for the rom and flashed it. I thought it was fine but i was wrong. My recovery doesnt recover anymore, I can get to the boot loader but unfortunately my boot loader is locked again due to the ruu I tried to use after I got a 'little' nervous.
Im basically stuck with a phone that doesn't boot. Id appreciate any and all help.
Get adb drivers for the evo 4g lte boot the phone into fastboot and reflash the recovery IMG through adb to the phone after that try and s off your evo whenever u s off it will be virtually impossible to brick this device

I dont mean to sound like a noob.
I have re unlocked my device with twrp on it. Secondly do you have a link to the correct software? and the process on how to properly flash that back onto my phone?
Thank you!!
If u have it unlocked with recovery then u can re flash ROM but to be safe u should s off the device that way if u do ever flash a ROM it will automatically update your boot.IMG

If you want to go back totally stock you can use the VipeRUU tool. You must be S-off to use it.
I have one more question, can i flash this without a kernel? or do i have to use the gui to flash the kernel first then flash over the rom? or is any of that correct?
Well i cannot link it but its the 4.2.2 cyangenmod

You can use Flash Image GUI or you can fastboot flash the kernel. Click the link in my sig-I have a guide for installing kernels while S-on.
I am very sad at this point, one I was happy at the beginning when I followed Hasoons2000 root toolkit to root my HTC amaze, the steps were easy to follow UNtil , I started to poke into an area I wasnt familiar with, the S-Off /ON and when I ran the exploit for Hasoon S-off, trouble began. My phone was up and running, it installled supersu, everything was fine, Now I cant even get the phone to turn on. I read some threads saying I need to download and install new rom, or stock rom, . ..Im ok with that part, However I read another thread saying I needed to relock the phone. And things became worst. Now its on Relocked, S-On, tried to root , was successful, now all I see is the bootloader screen with no OS, no img, its tough at this point. But I am sure someone out there can help me rebuild and start over again. Help me please!
Need @ravike14 he'll help you out!

Put the ruu file in the ext sd and flash it thru bootloader your amaze will be up and running and unlock bootloader again before doing this with new unlock code from htc dev
If you need an even detailed process post again and you should at least search once this is not an uncommon problem and watch a video before doing s-off

I just did it...
I messed up and forgot to change the partition to flash the system to and had to go back to an ruu
I still had the bin file.
I flashed the ruu
then I used the windroid toolkit and did the unlock bootloader and used the old bin file.
then i pushed the recovery image and then flashed viper again and
back to normal!

It happened to me at one point when I ported sense 4.1, I had to relock, flash the ruu, and unlock the bootloader again. Then I simply used the perm root zip, flashed a recovery, one of my roms, done.

Although I'm s-on, I too have had to reflash back to stock after monkeying around with some tweaks meant for other HTC devices. Long story short, the partition schemes vary between devices and I hosed something important, causing a bootloop. I was easily able to relock my bootloader, flash factory ruu, then unlock again using the same blob from HTC dev. Keep the unlock blob somewhere safe and handy. You never know when it might be needed again.
If you accidentally flash to block 17 or 18 you'll need a jtag! Most others are recoverable.

Thanks for the heads up Chevy. Thank goodness it was block 22 not the ones you mentioned. Actually, I was trying to flash the leedroid tweaks, but from the EVO 3d GSM, not the sensation, over the bone stock latest ruu. I had just deodexed the ROM in the kitchen and was trying to see how I could modify it on the handset.. Obviously I know now that they aren't as compatible as I was hoping. LOL
How did you guys port those tweaks? When I tried using the leedroid zip from the sensation in the kitchen it would boot, but never make it to the lock screen. Same when I tried the Dark Forrest tweaks. After those failures, I'm thinking about trying out exposed instead. Maybe I'll have better luck.

Eek! Block 22 is scary too. That's the boot partition!
29 30 & 31 are our main partitions.
29 is system
30 is cache
31 is data
22 boot image
The venom tweaks were already in viper as it was ported from sensation.
There may be some smali editing. Afnan could guide you better on the tweaks than I could.
I've really just recently got into the deeper editing of the Roms.
I've been losing hair and brain cells working with ravike14 on the two Roms and the kernel.
There will be more of a stock 4.5 jellybean and a stock sense 5. We will turn these loose on the forum and let others go in depth for tweaking. It's been damn hard enough just trying to get sensors and stuff working.
Can't post the Roms in any part until he can upload his kernel source.
Chevy.

That explains why I didn't hose my handset. The boot partition is pretty small and the kernel image read only on my s-on device. So probably only a few bits of data got squeezed into there causing no harm. Since then I've flashed back the latest stock kernel and libs, so I got lucky and escaped.
Been scouring the site here and can't seem to figure out where I've gone wrong...
I purchased an Evo 4G LTE and installed the 4.13.51.4 RUU (stock)
Unlocked the bootloader
Installed TWRP 2.6.1.0
Cannot seem to achieve root. Tried installing several different superuser.zips
The only one that will install without failure is SuperSU-v1.93.zip
No failure but also no root afterward
Is there something obvious I'm missing here?

You must use a custom built TWRP recovery found here:

Being that you're S-on, you will have to use the fastboot method to install the recovery. Then flash your SuperSU zip again. You do have the SuperSU app installed too, I hope.

no I am not sure what to flash. I jus went to the international thread and am lost. This is my first HTC root job. I guess I just need a step by step some where
You need to first get TWRP and fastboot flash recovery xXxX. Img. Look at the first page of that post though. I think it's pretty much a rough step by step. You need to get fastboot and adb installed on your computer first if u haven't done that already. Can't remember if they mentioned that

The file you need to flash for root is there but that original link was for if the root does not take. But you may want to install a root checker to confirm root.
after you flash recovery,i used the chairfire root zip instead of the one in the intl root thread, as that didn't work for me.
so flash recovery
flash chainfire's root
presto!
Thanks guys.. gonna try again tonight. I'll let you know .
