Sdcard issue - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Having problems with my sdcard....
I've moved videos to my ext sdcard and watched the free space go down and the videos are there. After a rebbot the free space is the same but the videos are not there!
The same issue happens when I delete something. After a reboot the deleted items are still there.
Bad sdcard? Or?
Thanks for the help
BTW I'm on 4.4.2 nc5 stock rooted.

Bad or corrupt is my guess. Might try formatting it in the phone or even a computer and see if the issues persist.

Yea that was my guess also I just didn't want to assume and then go through all the stuff to format and move everything back and what not.

Sounds like the same thing that happened to me. By the way the microsd might be a goner.

Well I made a back up of my sdcard and tried to format with it in my phone and it won't format.

Windows won't even format it. Any ideas? Or is it just shot?
Thanks

Yeah it's shot.

I bought another one. I'm glad I was still able to get my data off of it :screwy:

Running low on Space on Internal card.

Just noticed my available space on my internal sdcard is sitting at around 2 gigs. This makes no sense. I dont have any music on it and I have gone through and deleted old pics and videos. I have also deleted old nandroid backups as well as files that i used to flash like roms and fixes.
Any ideas on whats causing this. I am running Kirf custom with voodoo enabled.
Are you sure that, that's your internal sd card and not the external sd card that you are reading off of? If you do have an external sd card please remove it, then reboot your phone, then check your memory once again without the external sd card inserted. Doing so should eliminate any confusion/confusions of you reading the wrong information.

Im looking at the right one. It says phone storage Total space:12.78 available space:1.90. With the apps I usually have installed I remember having at least 7 gigs free. This makes no sense to me.

Do you have a lot of ROMs stored on it?? a lot of game data?
these two things tend to chew up a looot of memory
I did delete all my stored roms. I do have need for speed shift installed I know it installed 150mbs when it first started up but maybe its the game save data then. I just would have thought the videos I was recording would have taken up alot more space than they did.

Just mount your sd to your PC and arrange all files/folders according to size, then browse around and you should find out whats eating your space up
I had a similar problem earlier on, it turns out that one of my database files had some how gotten corrupted and bloated to taking up a lot more space than they should have. I would check the size of your database files to make sure this hasn't happened to you.
So I figured it out. Set file manager to show hidden files. There was a folder called. trashes. Went into the folder and there was everything I ever deleted. Hit select all and delete and I am now back at 12 gigs of space. That folder had 10 gigs of trash in it! I recommendations to every one look into doing this if you are low on space.

You must have a mac, adamboyd. Am I right?
This has to do with the way macs "send" files to the trash can, which is different than a PC's recycle bin. A mac does not move the file from where it was located when you send it to the trash can, it simply places it in a hidden "trashes" folder. This isn't an issue when the files are on your computer, but when you're using your mac to delete files on an external drive (flash drives, or your phone's sd), the file remains on the drive in the hidden folder your mac created and eventually you run into the problem you experienced.
Solution: Always empty the Trash Can before ejecting the drive from your mac. That action searches out and permanently deletes all files located in the hidden trashes folders. If you empty the trash can after you've ejected the phone's sd from the computer, then obviously it won't be able to locate and delete the files that you had "moved" to the trash.
Hope that helps!
Good to know. And yeah I have a mac. I never knew that but I do now.

Also, if you make ClockWorkMod nandroid backups, they can add up fast as well. If you're low on space then you might want to move the older ones elsewhere or delete them from the phone.

[Q] Apps randomly disappear, still in Manage Applications with the grey SD icon

My problem is quite accurately described by the topic name. Every now and then, some apps from my SD card (such as Robot Unicorn Attack and Gameboid, not sure if the same apps do this all the time) just disappear from the app drawer and tapping their shortcuts on the homescreen returns a "The requested activity could not be launched" toast. But those respective apps still exist in Manage Applications, albeit with their package names and the grey SD icon. Does anyone know why that happens? I don't think it's the card, it runs perfectly otherwise.
I get the same thing on my EVO 4g. No idea why it happens, it seams to be random.
Same thing is happening to my epic4g. I think I reas something somewhere about a bad fs.I'm assuming that means filesystem. Only way I can think of to correct this is tow odin back to stock and start all over. That way the filesystem gets fixed. Also maybe try to format ur sd card. Of course don't forget to backup

Well, seeing as I am not using a custom ROM, I don't think the filesystem is the problem. I will format the card though, once I get the time for that and backups. But is there really no pattern for this happening?

Well, I won't do that just yet, because it hasn't happened since I posted this thread.
Also, it seems a reboot might fix it, as I had not reinstalled one of the lost apps (Nesoid), but after a reboot it magically returned. That or unmounting/remounting the SD card, not sure.
Hey guys Try unmounting and then remounting ur SD card it fix dis for me.

the only way i am doing it is by draging it from the download folder of musics i have
Try taking the card out and using your s-finder to locate the music. Maybe the S5 moves them? I don't know, just a suggestion

Hm.. That is strange man, since you still have no solution i will keep taking a stab at it.
have you tried changing music players?
have you tried getting your music from a different source/checking if your music files arent corrupted?
did you check with a file explorer to see if it is 100% not there? the music files that is... and just not cached by the music app ?
and lastly.. have you tried using a different spare SD card that you have laying around? sometimes its hard to accept but SD cards come faulty my friend.. I am all out of options...:crying:

im sorry to hear that... thats the thing with technology these days bro, you can never be 100 percent safe, its the size of a finger nail and holds your whole life in their.. so please try a spare SD card and put music and test it if it deletes..good luck :good:
i found the reason why now it was deleting it... i tried with a diffrent SDcard it did the same thing now that i had the option to move the 3rd party app which i used PowerAMP i moved the apped to the SDcard i rebooted it couple of times and it stood there b4 with out moving the app to the SDcard was deleting it at first i thought i was my SD but it wasent happy i did the work because some one might end up same way i was too.:laugh:

[Q] HTC Desire 610 corrupting photos

vv
Berilium2 said:
Hi there
I rooted my phone and also installed TWRP on my HTC and I have noticed that my phone seems to be corrupting the photos that I take, but it doesn't corrupt them immediately. It can take a few hours but they end up getting corrupted. I store my photos on my SD card and I have never had a problem with it before, the card is still relatively new.
I'm still running the stock ROM
The photos were automatically backed up so I have the original versions and I have attached them to the post with the corresponding corrupted versions that appear on my phone
What's happening? Have I made a bollocks of the phone?

That's strange. I'm probably not the one to solve the mystery but when you say sd card, you mean your external micro sd? Have you tried swapping out the sd card?
I was surprised to see an android phone couldn't rw ext 4; had to reformat fat32. But I don't get how they seem to gradually corrupt??? Are you using something like link2sd or was there a recent app you installed that preceeded this behavior?

Yeah I'm using an external SD card
I'll try swapping out the card and see if it makes a difference.
It's really weird that they're fine just after I take them and then like 2 hours later it seems that only the thumbnail is left or there's nothing at all.
When you say reformat to fat32, does that mean wipe everything off it?
I'm not using any strange apps, just the default camera app on the stock ROM
I noticed that my viber pictures were not displaying this weird behaviour so I looked and they're stored on the phone, so I changed my camera to store the pictures on my phone memory and took a few test photos. So far they have not been corrupted and seem fine. Although I think that the quality of the pictures has dropped
Seems like it might be the SD card after all

Yes. If you format it to anything even the current format, it will be wiped. Sd cards get corrupted a lot. That's your most likely culprit. Not sure if it'll fix your issues but probably the easiest thing to start with. Hope it works for you!
Thanks for your help dude, I really appreciate it

Formatting the external SD card seemed to fix my problem

SDCard Notification

Every time I reboot I get a notification
that reads
San Disk SD Card
Available For Moving Images and Other Media Files
I'm on MM Rooted. Its started only after the MM update. I also notice it on my G5 and that's not rooted.
Is there any way I can stop seeing that after a reboot? Besides removing the SD Card of course...
Sorry if this has been covered. I couldn't find anything related to it.
I haven't tried myself yet as I have the same problem, but when I looked around people said that if you format the SD card in your phone it will stop
Of course if you try this be sure to back everything up first

darn, wish I knew this earlier as SD cards are slow as fsck when writing and 100GB is not gonna be fun to copy... do you know if formatting it will also change the name of the device under /storage? prior to MM my SD card was named /storage/external_SD, but with MM I obtained a new 200GB micro SD that I formatted on the computer and now shows up as 7188-CDE6.

Well hopefully won't take too long, and yeah reformatting the card should change the name of it too, but you can change it to whatever you want after - if your on Windows just right click on it when it comes up, same with phone too if you want

Doesn't work, tried that today. It changed the name within Android, from 5 blah blah to 3 blah blah, but still says you've installed an SD card at boot up.
Well that's annoying, I was planning on doing it soon myself... I'll look around for a fix, hope there is one

Use XNotifications on Xposed to create a rule that automatically dismisses the notification. Worked for me perfectly. I bought the premium app to support the dev since i found it so useful.
i have the same problem, and it seems that due to this notification/ bug all my music downloaded for offline use via spotify gets deleted. The bigger part is that I receive this notification every so often, notjust after reboot, so basically spotify is nonstop downloading all the songs, cause i guess that once you take the card out, spotifiy does not register or acknowledge its old files anymore.
ill try the formating to see if that helps, but does anyone have a different approach?
Im on unrooted MM 6.0
