[Q] NH7 Root without tripping Knox? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

All,
I've dug around the Note 3 forums to find a thread addressing the topic in the subject but can't find anything. Back when I rooted my NC5 build there was a how to thread but it doesn't appear to be updated. I have seen TowelRoot but have never used it before. Is it the way to go these days?
Thanks.

The NH7 update fixed the exploit that the TowelRoot method was using. The only way to obtain Root with NH7 is the Chainfire Auto-root. Unfortunately, this will trip KNOX. It may be possible for someone to find a new exploit, but one hasn't been found yet.
But your question sparks my curiosity, so please let me pose a question to you: What are your reasons for not wanting to trip KNOX? I'm genuinely curious because outside of Enterprise users, I haven't really seen anyone needing the features of KNOX and it's rare to hear of any issues with Sprint (or Samsung) warranty claims.

Thanks for responding.
The main reason I'm concerned about not tripping KNOX is I suppose I'm paranoid about having an issue if I need to get it serviced. I am not an Enterprise user. I actually have insurance through Best Buy and I doubt that anyone in the store would check the KNOX flag before they put it in a box to ship to the repair facility. I guess I should just lose the paranoia and use Chainfire Autoroot.

keeping knox mode
Hi,
Sorry to raise the dead here but I can't seem to get a straight answer. I don't care about my warranty. I actually use KNOX mode and was wondering if there's a method where I can root but still have the KNOX mode? Thanks!

I'm afraid you can't. The only way to root note 3 without triggering knox was kingo root, but it only worked for 4.3 and no longer works for 4.4 (tried it about a week ago)
you could root 4.3 then upgrade to rooted 4.4 without triggering knox, but i think it's too late for that now for you

This should do it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2655450
P.S. Triggereing knox will cause your phone to display message about warranty being void on boot. Effectively this voids your warranty with Samsung. People say that Sprint until now did not do much trouble about servicing phones with knox warranty bit tripped. This can change any time.

[Q] New phone rooting with Towelroot

Hey guys,
I apologize in advance for asking a question that's been asked probably hundreds of times, however everyone has a unique situation and I really don't have the time to read through all the pages to not get all of my questions answered.
I just got a new phone and i'd really love to root my phone without tripping Knox. I just bought this phone today and it came with the 1ANCH build number.
My questions are:
1) Will towel root work on my phone as is right now?
2) Apparently i'm not supposed to do updates OTA, how do I properly do them without losing root?
3) Are custom roms completely out of the picture if i'd want to keep Knox not tripped?
Thanks guys!
1. Yes towl root works great. I used it on my Galaxy s5.
2. If you do a Ota update you will loose root but after the update. You can just reroot. No big deal.
3. If your worried about tripping knox don't be. I have been flashing Rom since the Motorola Click days. Have sent bricked phones back to Tmobile, Sprint. And never even flashed back to stock. They completely wipe the devices anyways. So you should be good to go. Custom Rom Rock. Enjoy flashing!

I'm on nf6 firmware if I use towel root will it root my tmobile Gs5 without tripping knox? I can root my Gs5 using towel root without a computer I can do it directly from my device right? Thanks

You seem to think that your time is more valuable than ours. You'll excuse my brevity, but it seems that I don't have the time to elaborate upon my replies in this thread either.
You can use towel root on any TMobile S5, although some builds require a different procedure. There are myriad threads explaining this in more detail. Many of the same threads explain how to avail yourself of updates without losing root. And it is possible to use a custom recovery without incrementing Knox, although that isn't the norm. Simply writing a custom recovery will give you a 0x1 flag.

[Q] root android 5.0.1

Will CF auto root would it be able to root android 5.0.1. I really do not care about the Samsung knots being trigger my phone is already out of warranty. I just have insurance if it gets stolen or I drop it in water. Or should I wait until they find a root method without triggering Samsung knots. I read about triangle away but like I said at this point I can careless if it gets trigger. What are you guys opinion?

As of now, if you took the OTA and did not preserve root, there is no root method available. Also, "Knox"

No root for OC1 unless you took the neutered tar through odin or used a ROM from @gigilie or another dev .

Thank you. I was did preserve root. for lollipop but what happen I let my nephew play on my phone and he ran safestrap and i was stuck in a bootloop. I couldn't get it out no matter what. I was in the bootloader OC1. I was one of the guys that help Muniz achieve root for everyone. We were having Wifi issues but i told him i would upgrade my bootloader to help if it would fix it. but it was the kernel. So i needed to used samsung kies to get my back up. So thats how I lost root. But thank you for your help.

Fyi...... @dgutierrez04 was the guy that pulled the OC1 ota update for me when no one else could due to the two part 5.0 update. He also took one for the team during testing of the OC1, Stock Rooted ROM so many of you enjoy today by updating his bootloader to OC1.
I assume he has no backup phone.
That said, it seems a lot of people have to use Kies... as Odin reports fails...
I did not root my I545 verizon so now I have lollipop oc1. My question is should I not take the next upgrade for lollipop or at this point does it make a difference as far as getting root?
Thoughts are more than welcome

No I do not have a backup phone. But hey that's how we learn. I will do it again for the community if I can capture again the update and test it for everyone I would. I am a te player. I wish I could built roms but I'm not that smart lol.

I suggest is to wait and hope they can find a root method and try to avoid future updates as off right now. That's what I would suggest you doing as for me I will be doing the same.

to root or not to root

I've just bought edge few days ago and wanted to know if rooting was worth it.
Will fingerprint still work?
Will i lose any functions?
is it easy to remove root and go back to stock?
which custom rom is most stable?
thanks
Will fingerprint still work? DEPENDS ON THE METHOD OF ROOT
Will i lose any functions? SAME AS ABOVE
is it easy to remove root and go back to stock? YES
which custom rom is most stable? I like Xtestolite with the newest unikernal
Running 5.0.2, rooted with Ping Pong Root.
Fingerprint unlock still works.
Haven't noticed any functionality failure, aside from no OTA updates...
As for unrooting, there are guides out there on the internets, however, from my understanding it boils down to "Use smart switch".
Can't speak on custom roms yet. Haven't taken the plunge and given up my Knox status... yet.
There doesn't appear to be an exploit for 5.1.1 yet (please someone correct me) to allow us to root 5.1.1 without flashing (and therefore tripping Knox) unless you are running a T-Mobile specific variant of our beautiful phone.
Hope that helps?

You say installing custom roms will affect knox. That is not entirely true. As long as the rom is based on the original kernel k box should stay 0*0

I was under the impression that flashing Anything that was not a signed Samsung package would trip the knox bit.
can you link any technical explanation on how the Knox detection functions? I haven't been able to find anything about it except Samsung's spiel about how Knox protects corporate users.

Some useful info. Thanks all.
I've updated to the 5.1.1 so probably won't root for the time being as seems some have faced issue.

Nothing wrong with that. Although root has both pros and cons, it is only useful for some. No matter which you choose, it will be a good choice.

Can I go back to 4.3 From 5.0? I bought a Note 3 [Online]. 2nd Note 3. Help? [Sprint]

Hello.
I have searched the forums and I do not see this question. I have googled and see this answered all over the place. Some people say you can and some people say that you can't. Something about flash locked bootloader when 5.0 is installed.
I absolutely love my white note 3. I have had it for years and just replaced the charger port. I wanted another one for my business line. I can't find one that hasn't been updated because that is exactly what I want. Before I flash this one and mess it up I want to check with you guys officially.
This is what I have now and want on my second phone:
N900PVPUBMJ4
N900P.12
SM-N900P
4.3
N900PVPUBMJ4
JSS15J.N900PVPUBMJ4
I know how to flash this with odin and have done so many times. But I have always been on 4.3 and never upgraded. I just disable KNOX and rename all the update files so it leaves me alone.
This is the note 3 that I bought:
N900PVPUEOH1
N900P.12
SM-900P
N900PVPUEOH1
LRX21V.N900PVPUEOH1
SEPF_SM-N900P_5.0_0009
MDF V1.0 RELEASE 4
VPN V1.4 RELEASE 4.1
KNOX 2.3
... [ETC all the way down]
My question is this possible at all? What is the risk? What are my options? I really want to have a nicely rooted note 3 just like my old one.
If it is not possible can I root this Lolipop?
What I was going to do was just flash the note 3 I just got in ODIN like I always do with my old one, but I am afraid that I am going to brick it or its going to get stuck on the sprint logo because the bootloader can't be downgrading.
Well please let me know.
Thank you.
Okay. I tried something different. I searched downgrade within Q/A and did find some things stating that it is impossible. This really frustrates me. What are the odds of me finding a note 3 that is not already upgraded.
So now what are my options?
I really enjoy my rooted other note 3 for exposed installer, wifi-tether, and a possible ad block.
Can I do all this with Lolipop? Is it easy to root? Or should I just return this phone?
Let me know.
This is what gave me hope.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...t-guide-note-3-lte-sm-n9005-lollipop-t3093183
Is this not true? Special phone or something? I see it is for the International Version but it says Lollipop 5.0 and its downgraded. If its impossible how did he do it?
If all is impossible. If I root Sprint Note 3 on Lollipop will I trip Knox?
jimzweb1 said:
That one is flashable with Odin only. It would work but it would take you back to bone stock NC5 with no root and you would lose all your data. Think of it as buying a new phone and starting from scratch. I found one to but the download link is broken. Most of the guys here have updated to OC5 5.1 of course l'm still running my 4.4.4 NK4 deodexed debloated rom it's smooth and bulletproof.

Question here.
If I can't downgrade. Can I just flash a rooted "one click" on this phone and run that version of Lollipop on this phone or will that create problems as well? This will probably trip Knox as well right?
I think someone said that no matter what you do to root or re-flash ROMS now you will trip Know. That correct?
I am thinking about trying KingRoot.
I used Kingo Root a lot before and never tripped Knox. This one however seems to be support by XDA and should be better.
Do you think I could use this without tripping Knox?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/one-click-root-tool-android-2-x-5-0-t3107461
Its not on its supported device list through. So does that mean it will probably trip Knox?
Why isn't anyone helping me?

Just food for thought.
