I was trying to return to Verizon stock firmware and used odin 3.10 (first time) I have NC5 with Hyperdrive ROM. I tried SCH-1545_20140330160240_yni63xq6zh.zip and SCH-1545_20140330160240_8il7ls9o2_fac.zip.
Now my phone booted into "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I have finally was able to boot into download mode but odin flashes fail. I tried to used Kies but nothing works, it does not recognize the phone.
I did notice that there is a small blue dot where the download progress line is. Does anyone know what I can try?

I tried to do AdamOutler's unlock bootloader stuff, and when i flashed the unlocked bootloader file in his thread i got a boot loop, so i tried to flash the stock bootloader file also in his thread. now i get the yellow triangle saying i need to take it back to the store. i can still flash with odin and i just tried to flash the unlocked bootloader again and now i get a fail message in odin.
please help!
even if i can get back to the bootloop i'm willing to take it back to verizon at this point. i just dont want to do that with the yellow triangle, i could just make up some something for the bootloop.
Have you tried flashing back with the stock odin image?

the first thing you ever do before flashing anything on your device is have a stock rom to odin back on. second your not following directions. third your device is not bricked...flashing back to stock will bring it back.
I'm having a similar issue. I had followed adam's protocol for rooting and unlocking using CASUAL; once the process was completed I received a notification claiming that my device was now 'rooted and unlocked.' I then proceeded to download ROM manager and flash clockwork recovery and upon reboot receive the 'system software not authorized' message. At this point I attempted to use the official ODIN provided in droidstyle's guide on root/unlock/etc thread. I see a successful flash of the image but still cannot get out of the unauthorized system software error. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

i did! that's why i was a bit surprised that it didn't work. i downloaded both the VRALJB 4.1.1 stock image and pit file, placed them into their corresponding locations in ODIN and flashed away. should i be allowing ODIN to repartition the disk? (thanks for the help droidstyle!)

Hello, I wanted to add my previous Issue I had before running into this problem.
I currently need to fix a issue ASAP as I am selling my s3 soon. I tried to unroot my s3 and reset it to factory settings but flashed the Verizon firmware on my phone and not the international version firmware. The flash failed in Odin and now I am stuck at a screen saying the Firmware upgrade encountered an error. Please try again. I tried to go into download and recovery mode multiple times and cannot do so. I assume is bricked or soft bricked? Can I use a usb jig to get into download mode?

After purchasing a USB JIG, I can now get into Download mode, but the issue is every time I try to install a stock firmware, I am stuck in Recovery mode. The binary count on the phone says "18", but I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. Please help, thank you. My phone is the I9300.
So the stock ROM installs without errors?
Have you done a factory reset from recovery afterwards?
This should be fixable unless the firmware you flashed also included a bootloader

No, the stock ROM cannot install, every time I try to install the ROM, it gets stuck in Odin says "Recovery". I cannot get into the phone because it will still show the firmware error if I unplug the usb jig from the usb download mode.
Have you tried Kies if you want to return to stock, start Kies and go to Tools > Firmware Upgrade and Installation
Follow the instructions on the screen, this is supposed to completely reset the phone and install the latest firmware version for that phone
I am trying to unroot my gs4. its an mk2 build. I clicked unroot in SU, but the phone locks up when attempting to go into factory recovery. I tried flashing the appropriate tar file in odin but it always fails at (aboot.mbn) any ideas?
since trying to do this, phone now wont reboot. it says firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please select recovery mode in kies. problem is it wont connect to kies... ; (

You flashed the wrong file that's why it softbricked. You can't flash anything older, only mk2 or newer. You'll have to flash the mk2 image in Odin to restore it to working condition.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.
so I should be able to flash mk2 tar file with odin and unbrick?
Im back up and running, thanks a bunch.
I downloaded the full 1.7GB N2 MJ9 md5 for odin, after I flashed the phone would just flash NOTE 2 logo over and over.I tried to re-flash it again in odin but it just fails, and now in download mode I see 4.3 stuff.
I keep trying to use odin 3.09 to reflash stock but it fails at NAND WRITE START

Mine did this exact same thing. I later found out that you have to run Odin again and only use a pit file. Basically bring up Odin, put your phone into Odin mode, connect it, on the right hand side of the Odin screen instead of clicking PDA, click PIT. Then point to your file and click start. The file name is sch-I605-16gb.pit. Only thing is that I am unsure where I downloaded it from. There is a video on youtube on that describes exactly how to do this and I think the links to the files are on that video.

the pit file failed, too.
Verizons SUA ended up working with restoring device.
I got the same issue. my phone was rooted with TWRP 2.6.3.2 and flashed to customized MJ9 in this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578458&page=14
Later I would like to restore to factory default, so downloaded this firmware http://terafile.co/2146204d7383 and flashed using odin. the flash was successful, however, after it finished, it started to have the exact problem as you described.

Did you take 4.4.2 OTA?
Well have you tried rebooting into stock recovery(UP BUTTON, HOME BUTTON, POWER) and doing a factory reset..then reboot?
You should always flash a image or tar in Odin WITH the pit file..bc if no pit the image could end up anywhere(rare)..
So this is what I would do..
pull battery
un plug phone
reboot into Download Mode
plug phone into different USB port
ODIN see it?
If so good!
Try to reflash WITH pit file
Hi, my galaxy grand was rooted and had the Resurrection Remix custom ROM, but now I want to reset my binary counter, unroot and flash the stock ROM. I started by downloading the .tar.md5 file (stock ROM), then I loaded it in Odin v3.09 as the AP (which is the PDA option but changed its name I think) and flashed, but it says fail at the beginning and now I only see "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I already installed Kies and tried this, but after a really long time when the progress bar reached 70%, it said Dll load fail and this was the second time I do it through Kies, but no avail and yes, I'm pretty sure that I have the ADB drivers installed. I flashed CWM touch recovery and it works good, so now I can enter Download mode and CWM mode (or whatever it's called) only. I want to flash back to the Stock ROM which I already have, but can't figure it how to solve this issue.
Thank you.
I really need help with this..

EDIT: Request close. I solved it. Apparently, it was my bad, I downloaded the firmware of GT-I9082 while my phone is GT-I9082L (though I bought it here from Egypt not Latin America).
