Need some advice with GPS and gogoalies wifi fix - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Greetings,
I have a rooted phone that I rooted before the gs4 safestrap was invented. So recently I tried out Hyperdrive 18 and 19. Consistent issue that I kept having is my wifi would drop every 30-40 seconds and reconnecting. I was unable to recreate the issues with Cyanogenmod 11. It appeared to only be with the hyperdrive rom. I did some googling and found someone say that their issue was resolved with the Gogoalies Wifi fix. I figured what the hell and gave it a shot. Phone rebooted and I was unable to turn on wifi and it took about a minute until I could get a cellular signal. Reflashed the rom and it booted up fine. I'm back on Cyanogenmod but it really feels like something is still wrong with the phone. I can't get the compass to work on the phone inside google maps. I tried a compass app and it is completely off. Now when I drive, the maps do not show an arrow of what direction I'm facing and I also don't have a solid lock.
So my question is does this wifi fix effect the GPS as well as other aspets of the phone and if so, can someone direct me what I need to undo the damage or suggest a better fix?

CM7 GPS Issues

Hello again. Recently I created a topic dealing with low call volume in CM7 and fortunately that has been fixed with the help of pcpark(numbers?) and myself. Unfortunately, I cannot for the life of me get the GPS to work. It was working in previous build but the latest July 4th build does not seem to want to lock. I am using the official ED04 modem because of the missed calls issues due to EC09 and I previously used ED01 but without result. Google Maps puts me relatively close to my home address and with Wifi it's pretty much exact but the GPS symbol never stops flashing, indicating that it's still locking. Navigation is completely broken, as it says at the bottom "Searching for GPS" but most of the time it never locks or if I get lucky it will lock for the duration that I'm using it but when I try to open it again, it won't lock. GPS Status displays that my phone's GPS is working correctly but it too has the flashing, not locked icon. Is there anyone who has been having similar issues or does anyone know of a fix? This ROM is so close to perfection and GPS is hardly a huge issue but it irritates me because it worked previously.
Try downloading GPS Aids and GPS Tests to see how many satellites you see and how many you lock on. I couldnt get a lock after 30 seconds on my fascinate ran aids and literally went from seeing 5 to 11 and from locking to 1 to 9 in under two seconds
Holy crap it worked!! Thanks a lot
Np, glad it helped.

I remember reading something about using GPS Status to "wake up" the GPS and I have always used it but I did not know you could reset the GPS. Thanks for the help!

GPS does not work (tried everything)

Hello,
I am using SGH-i777 outside USA (in Kosovo). I purchased it unlocked so everything works as expected, except GPS. The phone came with Gingerbread (not rooted). I tried GPS through google maps but i was getting "You location is temporarily unavaliable" and the scan was taking ~10 minutes without any results. Applications such as AccuWeather were also not able to find my location.
After this dissapointment, i decided to root the phone and install a custom ROM. I followed the guide posted at this link and followed the steps there 100% without making any changes/mistakes. I installed the Siyah 2.6 Kernel and the ROM that i choose to install was Aberration. I also followed the guides for this and did everything as advised. I turned the phone on but the GPS was still behaving the same. After this, i purchased GPS Doctor and clicked "Quick Fix". After this i downloaded GPS Test to see if the signal was alive, and after ~2 minutes of scanning, GPS Test found around 7 satellites and the signal appeared green within this app. I followed this by opening Google Maps and i got the correct location after ~2 minutes scan. This made me happy and i believed the GPS issue got fixed. But after trying after few hours, i saw that maps was again facing the same issues and apps that require location access were not being able to do so.
And the last step that i did was install a gps fix as posted on this thread. I know this thread states that they do not officially support sgh-i777, but i was out of options so i had to try something else. I followed all the instructions and downloaded and installed the Google Specific v 1.3 from that website. But this did not fix the problem either.
To conclude; the GPS is simply not working as expected. Finding the location takes to long and i was able to get the location in Google Maps only 10% of the time (my old iPhone 3gs finds the location in 3seconds!). I have tried this indoors and outdoors but the problem remains the same. During all the times, Wi-Fi, GPS and Data were turned on
Currently i have un-rooted the phone (followed the guides here) and am currently running the official ICS which i installed through Odin. Tried GPS again and it still does not work.
Sorry for the long thread but i wanted to explain all the details.
Hope someone can help me.
Looks to me like one of 2 problems:
1) You're not getting a good time from NTP server, try downloading FasterFix and selecting your area (need root). Not very likely, since with good GPS you'll still have a fix within 1-2 min.
2) HW problem, possibly antenna contacts.
So any go around for hardware problem?

HW problems are solved in HW. You can't "go around" and make the bulbs light in your house when the power has been cut off, can you? So how exactly can you "go around" a bad contact with antenna, that practically equals a missing antenna?
Just fix it.
In settings under location services did you check "use internal GPS" ?
Not even sure if aberration has that option. Jelly Bean ROMs do.

All the ROMs do. It's a stock Android option, equals to toggling the "GPS" toggle on in pull-down toggles.
And of course if he didn't have it toggled, he wouldn't see any satellites at all.
Plus, the original post is 2 months old. I believe the OP has already solved the problem or moved on.

[Sola] CM9 GPS Issue/ Help needed.

Hi everyone.
I've recently flashed back to fxp's 151 cm9 couse i got enough from stock rom, even after clenup.
The reason i got back to stock is that on cm9 it took abot 15-30 minutes to fix gps sats, sometimes no fix at all.
I really love cm9 couse there is nothing else alike, not even close, but even in fxp151 no change on gps.
BTW tryed to modify the gps.conf to my country (Israel), NO luck.
Can anyone please configure something with that???
Hope for your help guys...
anyone, please...
Download "GPS test" from play store, go to settings and clear A-GPS and check "keep screen on". After that, leave phone somewhere with a clean view to sky for 5 minutes.
Now you can watch what is actually going on while locking signal.
Download GPS test, go to settings and check leave screen on, clear A-GPS data and update A-GPS data.
Leave the phone somewhere with a clear view to the sky, window is OK also if you can see the sky. After 10 minutes check what you can see on the main screen.
You should see something like this:
I've noticed that on CM9 GPS doesn't work as it works on b.10 (Xperia U) where it needs only few seconds to lock signal but it works.
Just leave it for 15-20 minutes and it will lock. That screenshot is from CM9.
Is your 3G activated when you run your GPS scans?
No luck either
I have a very similar problem with my xperia u.
I recently rooted the phone and once I had it up and running I checked everything including the GPS. It was a little slow but still got a positive lock. The next day, boom, no gps and none since.
Things I've tried:
Unrooting
Soft restore
Hard reset
Toggling flightmode/bluetooth on and off
I even took the back off and made sure the antenna was connected properly.
With the back cover off I was able to get 4 very weak signals in places where I usually get lock in under a minute
I've left it out with the GPS Status tool running for at least 30 minutes and no luck.
I'm running ICS 4.0.4
My personal theory is that something has screwed the antenna cause it just seems to be getting zero signal.
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Thanks
I got it working!!!!!
I think I cracked it!!!
Just to cover all my bases I relocked the boot loader. Now I get signals and a lock! I don't know what on earth the boot loader lock has to do with the GPS but apparently there is enough to prevent the signals.
Hope this helps people in the threat a bit.
Still got problems
Use an application called fast GPS. It's on the play store

[Q] S4 wifi issue?

Hi! I updated my S4 to the latest firmware. Now m having issue in wifi. It stops downloading apps and speed is slow also. It gets disconnect and connect from wifi its self. No matter how near you are to you wifi source. Any suggestions that what might be the problem?
I assume you did not have a problem on MDK.
I had a similar problem after flashing an ME7 ROM and then back to MDK (can't say I really checked while on the ME7 ROM). I finally removed anything that might be trying to control WiFi (Battery Guru, Llama, etc.) and also turned off Power Save mode. The problem has stayed gone ever since. I haven't had the time to go back and re-enable each of those in sequence to track down exactly which was the problem.

GPS Problem

I have a GPS problem / question. I'm on Galaxy Note fre3 Hybrid De[Odex] v2.11 but I don't believe this is a ROM issue. I have certain apps that require location services and GPS to be on, example would be the WWE app or even our SBarometer app. If I turn GPS on and enable location services, the apps do not detect that GPS is on and I have no GPS icon in my status bar. If I use GPS Status it's fine. Any ideas? It's not app settings because on my Mega when I open the same apps the GPS icon comes on immediately and the app works properly.
Have you found a fix for this? I am on stock 4.4.2 with root, and I have been having the same GPS issue for several months now. Whenever I use Waze, it's constantly looking for a GPS signal, and MapMyRun will find it and drop it several times while I run making it impossible to track my runs. One other thing I did notice, is when I'm using Waze, if I turn the screen off, it locks on to the GPS. I can tell it's locked on because the voice commands start giving me directions, but when I turn the screen back on, it looses the GPS signal again. I would really like to get this issue fixed. The only other option will be to take it back to Sprint for an exchange.

I too am having a GPS problem. I'm Stock and not rooted with the most recent Sprint OTA (NK4). I've been suffering with this since NH7 came out and no ROMs, stock or otherwise have fixed my problem. Any recommendations on what I should flash? I'm considering doing an Odin Flash of NC5 just to see if that would help.
I have read through this thread, the first thing I would try is to update your PRL and profile. If GPS works on some apps and not on others I'd be willing to bet there's nothing wrong with the device or a stock rom running on it. I would try and contact customer service for the app and see if others are having the same problems with the apps., and see if there is a fix.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidlab.gpsfix I've heard people say this app has helped them with there GPS issues. Hope it helps
