I'm no developer myself, just thought if it'd be possible to port the LG g3 s also known as beat or vigor software to our phone, the processor and system chip are the same, also camera is both 8 pixel, and the storage is both 8gb

Someone should be able to port a G3 S rom, but in my opinion, we'll still have camera problems since we don't have the right drivers.
We have to wait...
The thing is tho we are not porting it to the aosp/cm type of device tree, and if we try to use our own blobs for example we might be good,to go?

Google doesn't need people porting it directly to Phones, this will harm the sales of Honey tablets...That's why ICS will unite tabs and phones.
I understand they do not want it on phones, But there are some decent tablets out there suffering the lack of sourcecode.
Also I recently noticed a flat out lack of any roms for a certain device

Perhaps ICS will be available for tabs and will run on the ones that currently have no honey support. But once they release it, devs can port it to phones, and they only want it on tabs, specifically the dual core ones.
It is a shame, The original Galaxy Tab was a wonderful device, Altho as a large phone it looks ugly as sin, Running honeycomb however, It certainly looks nice between the transformer and new tab 10.1 and 8.9

Has anyone tried porting windows to the rezound?
Will anyone try porting Firefox os when it is available?

99.9999999999% of PCs have x86 based processors.
99.9999999999% of phones have ARM based processors.
Windows is written for x86.
Even if there was an ARM version, Windows would run horribly on such low specs.
Also, Windows is completely proprietary, so another problem.
If you're referring to WP7, then yes that is for ARM, but again it's proprietary so we can't do anything with it, and compatible with only a few types of ARM chips.
Just like iOS.
As long as Firefox OS runs on ARMv7 CPUs and is completely open source, it will be possible to port it.
Whether anyone will actually bother to is another question.
It should be compatible since HTC has windows phones, ff os doesn't look like a winner, but html5 programming apps sounds sweet!
Just another random idea for xda devs lol.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Even if we had it, it would be so slow running. Windows is notorious for burning unessary system resources.
I know, I despise being forced to have it installed just for gaming on my pc, just thought there may be some one interested in having it.

It will not be compatible because being ARM based is just about the only similarity between this phone and whatever HTC windows phone.
The radios are probably different.
The wifi is probably different.
The bluetooth is probably different.
Etc.
And it's completely proprietary, so we couldn't write our own hardware drivers.
As long as FF OS is completely open source, it is technically possible to port it, but it will be a lot of work.

I don't think android has a "Trash Can".
When I delete a large file, my disk usage adjusts accordingly.

Contemplating on buying the E970,
been comparing it with the Nexus 4 and the Xperia SP since they are the only phones I like in my budget. I'd like to know your opinion. I am impressed by the hardware of the phone, but I'd like to know a few things before I make the purchase.
Firstly, will I have issues with the network or any other feature using the AT&T unlocked version in India?
Also, is the notification LED on the E970 RGB?
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
LED is red only
...and it's an awesome phone with lots of life left with the right XDA support.
Sent from my LG Optimus G using xda app-developers app
The development for the device will not stop until the Nexus 4 development stops, huh? Because they are practically the same phone.. correct me if I am wrong.

For the most part you are correct

Please for your own good, get the Nexus 4. Either that or live in the Nexus 4's shadow. If i could go back, I'd get the N4, you get pure and stable roms from Google and of course, you get updates faster
At this point in time, considering what the LGOG brings to the table vs the Nexus 4, I wouldn't buy a Nexus 4 but that's just me personally. Can't tolerate devices without expandable storage myself, so the microSD card slot on the LGOG just makes it a must-buy vs the Nexus 4, not to mention the addition of actual LTE support without jumping through hoops to get it working.
And considering even the Nexus 4 is now in a holding pattern of sorts to get the factory KitKat image, being a "Nexus device" isn't helping it be any better than the LGOG at all.

I don't get this idea of shadowing. If such way of thinking is correct, then every device is in nexus's shadow. I think the goal is to have a good working phone at the end of the day. This phone has a good variety of roms to help you get there: official supports of CM, Pacman, slim, all the unofficials and the very good stock rom. Also this uses sd card, nexus doesn't

Yep, made up 3 months ago. You should get rid of your OG if you got one so you don't have to be in the shadow
Dolby Audio really?
The sound on E970 SUCKS! I use a headphone amplifier but even with that the sound is crap. Dolby Audio really? I miss having a removable battery. Lastly, when the phone gets hot, there is a built in cap that limits the brightness of the screen. (Live in SoCal High Desert with summer temps of 110 F)
The quad core is fast and can handle quite a bit at one time. I listen to music while playing games, reading emails, cruzin' the Play Store and the internet all at the same time. Haven't had any crashes yet. There is plenty of storage internal storage. I have a lot of downloaded music and a few large games and have yet to roll over to the 16 GB external card.
Biggest disappointment is definitely the sound!!!!!!
Loving my LGOG. The sound is a bit weak. But everything else is great. I would recommend getting a best buy type warranty or a case for your phone. Gorilla glass is slippery like wet snot. I've had the back glass beak twice due to the phone sliding away and falling.
I'd buy it again.

Coming from an HTC device before this one, the sound is not that great but it works for me. Also the camera is not a big deal. Basically the same as the nexus 4.
I'm have been using houstonn kitkat for over a week and battery life is greater than stock and performance is awesome!

I had a HTC too, hated s-on and the whole s-off process. Did you have to use controlbear and do the wire trick ?

i had HTC One VX with s-off practically since day one. there are very few custom roms for that model and only one aosp like which was cm10 but very early build. s-off is very easy, no need to do wire trick but i have done it to other older models like Vivid and Amaze.
i really missed stock android for months until i got my lg e970
Sorry, but would someone explain in brief what S-Off and S-On mean?
Also, I'm considering getting the Optimus G Pro instead because I find the looks more appealing and few extra pros over the E970. But the development there seems more or less stalled. Gotta risk it, I guess.

I'll try, others feel free to add upon this. Different manufacturers use different mechanism to secure their devices. With htc its "security-on", it restrict what hboot you may run on your devices. I had an htc evo v/ htc evo 3d, with security-on I could only run hboot 1.07.07.07 whatever which only allowed stock based ics roms. After achieving s-off I was able to put a different hboot on my phone , i had jbear 1.47.47.47 i think.. which in terms allowed me to run a lot more roms. S-on also restrict what you may flash. For example firmware and radios, here we call it modem? Don't know the difference, can't be flashed with s-on.

Hopefully Sense 5 port will come soon....
It is possible. There's a guy that iirc posted it to a s3.
It appears to be outside the scope of most. Without wide support it won't happen. I'd love to see if the HTC software could unlock the camera.

Hey,
It's possible for sure. It's android and nothing is impossible.
Sense is the mot difficult Rom to port but it's possible..
Today a rep from Nokia was displaying the 1020 at work today, this gave me the chance to play with the Nokia Refocus app and that's quite interesting. Are there any Android apps capable of doing the same?

I haven't seen Nokia Refocus, but you can check out "Afterfocus Pro." I use it quite a lot. And I pair it up with "Perfectly Clear" for better results. Check them out, they're on the Play Store.
Hit thanks if I helped.

I assume the refocus works on the nokia as the camera is 42 megapixel or whatever it is, android can't compete with that as of now.

Nope, it just lets you view images shot with the actual Lytro camera as opposed to the app actually letting you take similar photographs with your phone.
Just posting this in here if people don't know what the app does.

I don't get why sony wouldn't have come up with a similar app? The bokeh app from sony is ok, but doesn't always work the best.
Really interested on this, but for now I think is Nokia exclusive, if something worth appears, some tech news website will publish
This feature has started to emerge in stock camera apps with the HTC One. It is also present in the Galaxy S5 (selective focus) & the LG G2 Pro.
I'm using a Note 2, dont have any recent future plans to upgrade my phone and i dont feel the necessity to do it. I hope there will emerge some third party camera apps that will do this trick for older phones.
