[Q] Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies..."
Originally my phone stopped working hours ago, applications were forced closed and i decided to force-shutdown my s2. Then i realised i could only enter recovery & download mode. I remembered setting my clock faster for -in game tokens per day- and i thought that was the problem. BUT i couldn't boot my phone. Saw videos on clockwork MOD and i tried with OBIN, but unexpectedly, it failed. As it failed, i couldn't do anything else so i removed USB and tried REBOOTING my phone. However, "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" came up. I can't enter recovery mode now but only download mode. I've installed Kies on my computer but to no avail. Kies gave me error when i attempted to restore the mods settings using "Firmware upgrade and initialisation" and error was in korean so i did not understand. People stated that there are other ways using stock kernel but i can't obtain my stock kernel of my device as i couldn't even boot it up, let alone going into my phone's setting to check the stock kernel.
Any help? It seemed that i should've done a recovery instead of toying with OBIN and resulting in this. ANY WAYS TO UNDO THE FAILED OBIN MOD? Please, i would rather lose all my data without backup than to never ever start my phone again. Please reply ASAP! I want to restore EVERYTHING, INCLUDING THE FAILED OBIN AND MY MESSING OF THE TIME IN MY PHONE. It doesn't matter if i have to wipe out all my data.
I tried to root my T Mobile Galaxy S2 using Odin method, and now i'm getting nothing but a screen that says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I would happily follow those directions, but now Kies won't recognize my device?!?!? I also can not get back into download mode. I have no idea what to do. Is there anyone out there that can help?
and why would you flash a t-mobile device with i9100 rom????
obvious mistake
now get a JIG and pray...
@tulip: download mode should work... just press the keys a little longer...
try to flash back your old firmeware + kernel... had the same problem yesterday but it worked. afterwards you can do a cwm back-up
I tried to update my I9100 simply by checking for updates on phone. Everything was going fine but when i downloaded OS and it said that it will reboot now, it had frozen during rebooting. Now I can't enter recovery mode but download mode works proper. When I turn on It's just black screen of death and "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" However Kies doesn't connect with it. It says that It has connection issues. I have rooted S2 with 4.1.1 OS and jeboo kernel 1.2.

Make sure you have correct drivers installed and usb debugging option is on, after widows loads all drivers when phone is connected disconnect phone using safely discoonect device and do a reboot and then after restart try again, also check your firewall and antivirus is not blocking the connection to phone.
Flash stock and go back to custom.
And please stop trying to update your device thru kies while you're actually on custom. Those two don't get along to well.

Hi Guys, I am in big trouble, My friend purchased an used galaxy s3 GT-I9300 europian/uk version two days back, and he is not tech savvy so he ask me to help to install software apps and other stuff, and handed over the phone to me for one day, so i perform hard reset to his phone, and it was running on ICS 4.0.4, so i checked for firmware update, and try to install it via OTA, after downloading update the phone restarted, but update not installed. so i again downloaded OTA update and install it, now after rebooting it freezed on samsung logo. So i wipe it via recovery mode and reboot it. Now after rebooting it freezed on a screen "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again".
(1) Now i am unable to enter in recovery mode, i can only enter in download mode, so i think it is soft bricked, not hard bricked, and can be repaired some how..
(2) I am unable to see charging screen when phone is connected to USB, it shows "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". but i think it is still charging
(3) I have tried famous 15 minute battery out
(4) i have tried to install via kies
(5) i have installed 3-4 firmware via odin in download mode, but when it tries to restart, it again stuck at "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again".
(6) I have tried via Oneclick Unbrick file
(7) As i plugged USB cable (either battery inside or without battery), in both case, it displays "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". screen. and i have to remove usb and battery to start it again, however when i insert only battery without usb plugged, then it never shows the screen "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again".
(8) I am from india, and friend purchased phone from somebody else which is from UK so i am not able to get service centre help her.
(9) phone is more than 1 year old, and carrier unlocked, so it is out of warranty now.
Now I am out of ideas, please help me how can i resolve the issue, because my friend think, i have messed his phone, he has not dial a single call with his phone yet. PLEASE..PLEASE HELP ME OTHERWISE I HAVE TO PAY FULL AMOUNT TO HIM...PLEASE HELP......
Would have taken much less reading the stickies rather than posting this.
There's only so much people here can do and if the stickies are exhausted there's no easy answer. What odin version are you using?
Follow the guide in general forum sticky to flash the right firmware for your country. Download the latest firmware from Sammobile.com

Odin version is 3.09, and i have tried rom from sam mobile WITH ODIN, But due to "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". It is stuck at Nand write, or sometimes Process failed in odin., phone belongs to UK,
Since it was on ICS could be affected by sudden death causing emmc failure. Samsung give 2 years warranty on handsets but you're gonna struggle in India. Try "firmware upgrade and initialization" in kies. If that doesn't work it's most likely dead, can you still see the phone model in download mode?

Yes i have attached snaps, and i am able to see my model no. in download mode
Now it is also not entering in download mode, I have to plug usb cable via laptop or via charger to enter download mode, i don't whether battery discharged or some other issue?
Your last option is to try the rescue firmware, search in general forum.
Follow the guide exactly on how to use it, but if it fails to flash then you have a hard brick -new motherboard required.

All rescue files for my device are old, so all files are hosted on hostfile.com, which was banned due to US copyright issue, so links are not working
I looked at the 5 threads that were suggested as soon as I typed in the subject. Cool feature!!!
So my wife's S3 Tab is stuck in a bootloop. I tried wiping cache and factory reset. Didn't work. I have not enabled developer mode and I can't now as it is stuck in a bootloop (duh me!).
I tried to flash stock firmware using Odin 3.14 and I got a fail.
Now the tab is flashing this message. Blue screen and white text.
"An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the emergency recovery function in the smart switch PC software"
How can I fix this? Please help!

Hello. As far as I know, if you do not have OEM Unlocking enabled, you cannot flash anything through ODIN.
However, you should be able to flash stuff in the green screen you are in.
Download the *proper* stock firmware from sammobile.
By proper, I mean, if your tab has no sim then download for T820
and if it does Download for T825. Then download with the proper CSC code. (it is basically the region you bought the tab from. Look it up).
Download and flash with ODIN 3.14. You can flash stock roms from the Error screen you're in. Also be sure that you're flashing everything properly and have the proper drivers by following everything here: https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/use-odin-flash-samsung-galaxy-stock-firmware-0182037/
press the thanks button on the bottom right of my post if i helped. Means a lot
