ota means Over The Air updates.rom updates are usually updated in official thread or sent to the mobiles that are using the rom.so you get the rom update directly to your mobile instead of coming and checking here

not in its own thread though. so it will help members that are not so active in XDA
update should bring: "... a series of performance improvements when launching the app, while also having access to some new PlayMemories Online functions."
So I flashed a rom on my phone and before that I created a backup of my stock rooted phone. Will OTA updates still be intact if I restore or will I need to re-enable them when unrooting? Sorry I am a noob lol.

Rooting has nothing to do with that. As long as you are using the right firmware for your carrier you should be OK.
