I don't know if anyone else has experienced this with Sprint Zone, but under My Device it shows "Update Available" and it says the update is software. However when o check for a software update through Sprint Zone it tells me my phone is up to date.

Are you rooted?
No I haven't rooted because I have been unsure whether or not the Mega has the KNOX Flag.

Rooting has nothing to do with that. As long as you are using the right firmware for your carrier you should be OK.

Will root allow this or is it the custom ROM that allows to use native tethering function without a specific tethering plan?

It can be done on stock Roms but the APN needs to be edited

ota means Over The Air updates.rom updates are usually updated in official thread or sent to the mobiles that are using the rom.so you get the rom update directly to your mobile instead of coming and checking here
Thank for answer
