hi . i need help i couldn't find any answers on this .
How can I hook up my android tablet to a land line phone for dial up internet
i have chinese tablet . model : City Call
My android version is : 4.0.1
My first thoughts are to get a usb external modem
and connect it to the landline socket
then connect the modem to my tablet
then enter the user name and the password from the dial up card
" 10 hours card " for example
i don't want to waste my money buying external modem then
discover that this method doesn't work . i just want to be sure 100%
My biggest fear is my tablet won't be able to recognize the external modem
or the dial up connection uses a different method to connect the internet
differently than android and 2g/3g/wifi connections
can i do that ? do i need any " FREE " apps for that ?
is it possible at all ?

hay guys i've 2 complains
i'm new in android world ,i just bought galaxy ace updated to gingerbread 2.3.3
1 - when i connect the device to the computer some times Kies cannot detect it ( usb debugging mode is enabled and the drivers is installed ) and if Kies detected it , it shows that usb connected but the android logo doesn't.
important note * : when connecting the device to other computer via connect storage to pc, it doesn't work.
2- the Gbs service requires internet connection every time i try to calculate the distance and direction between two locations ( too much money wasted ) , is there any solution to get the distance directions with out connecting to the network.
thank you,
1: I don't use KIES it's useless to me.
2: search the android themes and apps section, somebody made offline maps app.

Try osmand maps. There are a few others on the market too. Also google maps has panchant settings in labs. That alows you to download areas for off line use.
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
Next time please post a meaningful title. What GBS? Am I missing something here, or are you talking about GPS?
sorry for not explaining my problem well, i'm just a new member and i'm happy that people replied to me. thanks to all .

I have never done it (never needed to), but I found this article posted at teletechnology.in and it may help answer your question.
How To: Connect USB Modem Or Data Card To Android Tablet
I am running 4.0.3 release 5 on my Sony Tablet S. It is rooted and i am able to use a Huawei E173 UMTS stick loading several kernel modules.
It might work for you as well. Have a look at this quite old thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1870077
root and search the APP UMTS manager in playstore
Download PPP Widget from market, and plug your usb modem.
Requirements - READ BEFORE COMPLAINING:
- Needs root access (with "Superuser" or "SuperSU" app)
- Needs USB host

Hello,
I have rooted OnePlus One device (Android 5.1.1 custom ROM Sultanxda) and an old PC which have installed ubuntu 10.04. That PC don't have internet connection so I can't perform sudo apt get comand. Kindly teach me how do I connect to the internet by using my OnePlus One device and above ubuntu version OS.
Thank you.
If you have wireless option on PC its as easy as setting up a mobile hotspot, otherwise you can use a USB cable as well
A quick Google (or xda) search will give lots of guides on this
Thanks for reply. I only have USB cable option. Can you please help me how do I proceed. When I searched on internet all of them saying to have some apt get, but here qestion is when (i don't have internet connection on the PC; my only tool is my device to access the internet) starts to solve the problem, solution starts itself with head of problem. Even if I downloads some file in the device, I am not able to copy them in PC because it is neither mounting the device nor any MTP/ADB functionality available. Is there any way to copy / access the device through twrp?
Bump...
See if you can get MTP to work in Ubuntu with this:
edit -
/lib/udev/rules.d/69-libmtp.rules
Add:
ATTR{idVendor}=="05c6", ATTR{idProduct}=="6764", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k", MODE="660", GROUP="audio", ENV{ID_MTP_DEVICE}="1", ENV{ID_MEDIA_PLAYER}="1", TAG+="uaccess"
ATTR{idVendor}=="05c6", ATTR{idProduct}=="6765", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k", MODE="660", GROUP="audio", ENV{ID_MTP_DEVICE}="1", ENV{ID_MEDIA_PLAYER}="1", TAG+="uaccess"
Restart udev:
sudo service udev restart
As far as an internet connection, if your carrier (or rom) supports wifi tethering, then you can get a USB wifi adapter. If you are able to tether, then you can also transfer files wireless by using an app like WiFi File Explorer Pro.
There is no /lib/udev/rules.d/69-libmtp.rules in my PC. Do I have to create one new?
I tried to create one new and paste above two lines and restarted udev, but no luck. When i says lsusb it says :
Bus 001 Device 015: ID 05c6:6775 ualcomm, Inc.
@other:
Kindly don't post your answer(s) for just sake of posting because its frustrating me, why I am fighting with ubuntu, while same is running fine in windows...duh. Before posting your answer please please please check whether its is checked by you or you are just pasting **** answer at all over the internet.
None tested answer yet?
When I used to connect to the modem as regular way (just the cable to connect to modem and other pc using wireless to connect to modem) both the pc could recognizes in same network and I could play LAN games normally.
Now I just use the phone in usb tethering to connect to the modem and noone see other in same network whatever I settup manually inside windows and now noone game find the LAN server.
I seached in find that is a problem with IPs in android, I have an android 2.3 rooted and other 5.1 non rooted, I tried Port Forwarder but dont know how to settup this, tried this http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/43995/use-galaxy-s2-s3-as-router-for-pc-lan-gaming using ip route in my roted phone but the codes did not work. I dont know what to do right now, just only need that Left4Dead find the server as lan game and if I make windows find other in same network im sure that will work :good:
-both of OS are Windows 7
