Anyone else getting random reboots on their Nexus 9? I I have had 3 already this morning, always seems to be when I'm in a Google app - Play, Music etc?
Any ideas how I can diagnose this and stop it happening?
None in my 24hrs of ownership.

Haven't had one in ~48 hours, with moderate (and heavy at times) usage

If I had random reboots I'd flash the factory image and see if that solves it. If it doesn't them rma the device

Well I had it running all morning connected to logcat, and I didn't get one reboot.
If I get another one, I might flash the stock image!
Since I adb restored some of my apps from another tablet I have had nothing but reboots. It's getting very, very annoying.
Is there any logcat or last.kmesg I can get that would tell my why it's rebooting??
UPDATE : Just checked and there is no last_kmsg in /proc, anyone know where it is now?
I had 1 sudden reboot in the 3 days of ownership.
This was after an antutu benchmark (which crashed), then I opened a process viewer app which rebooted the tablet (but otherwise just runs without problems).
almost once a day
i am experiencing random reboots almost once a day. I am wondering if anyone made any progress with these?

Have you flashed the factory image to see if that cures it?

I had a single reboot since I bought me Nexus 9 soon after it was released and I use it multiple times a day.
I would highly recommend clearing cache and data for the apps you suspect are causing the random reboots.
If that doesn't work, try resetting your whole tablet.
I never had a single reboot since I bought the device.
Maybe it's because of the restore option at the first start of the tablet? I never restore apps and data and there are no problems.

Factory reset? No. Was it mentioned it fixes issues?
Yes
Me too
I've been getting these too, not quite as frequently though. It also doesn't seem to matter what app I'm using. It really is random. I usually see it happen a couple of times a week. I'm not a heavy user. I've been reluctant to reset and I've been holding off on unlocking, rooting, etc at least until it's out of warranty. I guess it's time to try a reset though.
Has anyone who was having the random reboot issue tried resetting back to factory and confirmed that it resolves the issue? I saw people recommending it but I didn't see anyone state for sure that it had solved the problem for them.
My tablet reboots roughly once per week. I've reset the tablet several times and flashed it twice. I didn't download any apps to eliminate any potential conflicts. All to no avail.
The device info on my profile needs to be updated.
For some strange reason I installed One Drive and my tablet went mad, massive slowdowns, reboots many times a day. Removed it and it's been rock solid since...
my wife's Nexus 9 has random reboots at least once a day, as well. This happened when it was stock and as a test I just put a ROM on it and it still reboots. I'm thinking about calling HTC to see if we can get a replacement.
Did you get an progress on this? Mine is doing it, totally stock not rooted. I'm about to reset and start again. Just want to make sure it's not hardware as I want to look at custom roms and rooting fun

Where any of you experiencing random reboots until you flashed a particular ROM? If so, which one solved the problem for you? I'm getting at least one random reboot per hour and it is even happening when I am talking on the phone. This is NOT acceptable!
I'm on my 2nd MoPho and I don't have confidence that another replacement will solve the issue.
Sometimes its an app that causes the reboots...i would freeze apps one by one until you find the culprit. Try it out!

That seems like it would take forever to test since the reboots are random. What is the best procedure to follow?
Hello
I live in Italy and I have my Mopho with sim "3 ITA" (UMTS) and I've never had a reboot, I think is a problem only with CMDA networks

You might want to start first with the apps that are running, it's really all I can think of, but having so many reboots is ridiculous...if anything i would switch it out for a new Photon...then if it happens again, you might be more assured that its an app thing.

That's just it. I don't really have any apps running. I haven't used the phone since last night and have received numerous reboots since then.
I think I'm going to attempt another factory reset and flash the latest SBF. I'll wait a while and if the reboots continue to occur, then I'll try joker's Skinny ROM. If the reboots still occur, I'll try a 3rd replacement phone.
Best of luck! I hope out all works out...this phone is a monster!

Did you do the MSL # reset? Sprint can guide you through it if you can't do it yourself.
##72786# [followed by your MSL code] clears all voice and data programming, then forces a handsfree activation
I have had no heat issues or reboots in about 30 days.
You can research this issue, but it will work.

WOW! I've never heard of this solution. Where you getting many random reboots before performing this procedure? Should I do a factory reset too? I can't wait to give this a try.
Also, is it possible that I just have a battery with bad internals? I replaced my launch day phone due to the same exact issues I'm experiencing with this refurbed replacement.

For me, my phone worked perfectly when I had zero installed apps on it. Therefore, I knew it was something I was doing/installing that was causing the problem. I started with the apps I used the most and installed them one at a time leaving a day between each install to see the effects. Everything was working well until I installed EE then within a few hours, my phone did a RR. Therefore, I knew something was up with EE. After doing some research, I found out that other Motorola phones where having the same problem with EE. I contacted the dev and he fixed it pretty quickly. Now, EE is the best email app for sure!

My SGS3 works just fine for 2 weeks, until now.
Suddenly, it keeps randomly crashing and reboot into samsung s3 logo screen.
Oh, I have tried different roms (and stock rom also) but the crash still happen.
I also have tried wiping cache, dalvik, clean install, removing external sdcard, and restore factory setting. But none was effective.
Any ideas?
I had a similar issue with my Atrix and it turned out to be the SIM Card. Had it replaced and no more random reboots. I figured this out by checking the panic dumps...maybe there is a similar way to check this on the SGS3

Thanks for the response.. I tried it just a moment ago without sim card, and it still got the random reboot..
Any other people who got the same problem?
Is the phone unusually warm? The phone will automatically reboot if it overheats, but that wouldn't normally happen unless it's been left in the sun or overclocked.
I can get mine to go into a reboot loop if I play Asphalt 6 while outdoors, but the problem goes away as soon as I let it cool off for a minute or two.

Sorry to hear that man. Had a SGS with same issues. maybe Samsung has hurried releasing galaxy S3
I'd factory reset and only put on the important apps you use. Depending how long it takes for you to normally get a reboot you can slowly add new apps back to narrow it down. I had the same problem last year and thought I had a bad sgs2. But it turned out to be dolphin hd browser at the time that caused it and haven't had a reboot in a year. It could be something similar in your case. Hopefully its software related and not hardware

i just tried flashing normal ROM, after booting to "get started" page, approximately 3~10 seconds, my sgs just rebooted over and over again, until it show only black screen with battery icon on it (i think it may be charging animation while the phone is turned off).

yes, i have tried flashing stock rom using odin a few hours ago, but the crashing still happen.
my sgs3 now stuck at boot-standby5sec-crash-reboot loop.
so, i decided to bring my sgs3 to samsung service center tomorrow. hope they will replace it with a new unit
UPDATE : Samsung replaced my new SGS3 with a new hardware (not sure new device though, the flash counter reset to zero )
the problem seems to be hardware related
thanks for all your reply to my problem

I am having the same issue, I've had my phone since Saturday (6/23/12) and it crashes, reboots, apps crash, internet crashes, email crashes, etc. I can udnerstand a lot of apps may not be updated to ICS.. but no matter what I do.. everything crashes.. It's a bit ridiculous. I am a prior iPhone 4S user and am probably going to return this phone. I can't do much without it crashing or the screen freezing.. not being able to do anything for 2-3 minutes, etc. And they couldn't port any of my numbers from my prior phone because they didn't have the software update to do so yet. So overall, bad experience with the Galaxy.. and maybe I should have waited longer before buying this phone to work all the problems.

I'm very sorry that u have these problems.but there will always manufacturing faults when making so many units.only one thing to do,return it and get a replacement.when u get a fully functional galaxy u won't regreat it,it's a awesome phone.Samsung usually replaces the phone,so I think they will do the same in your case.anyway best of luck
After all the problem I've been through, finally I send my phone back to samsung service center.. they tried to reinstall stock rom several times, and in the end, they change the IC board to a new one.. and it does solve my probs..
SGS3 tebooting
Hi guys here is a peace of my experience
Bought the phone last year in November .2 weeks everything fine then it starts rebooting itself.retun it to the mobile provider and get it back in 3 weeks with conclusion that they experience the reboots as well and that the phone had some kind of software issue.in 3 hours i was back in the shop with my phone rebooting again.they send it again to service got it back yesterday with 4.1.1 android and they sad it may be caused with wrong customizing or not supported sd card, turned on the phone and had few reboots manage to update to 4.1.2 and today heavy gaming internet etc and no reboots so far.will test it till wendsday and see what happens.if it will reboots again then its going back to service and this time it is the 3 time so i will get a new phone.
I think we are all having nightmares with these random reboots/crashes. Some people say that they get these problems only with browsers but many of us get random reboots or system crashes doing random stuff like uninstalling an app.
I thought maybe it's one of the dev options so I tried disabling Force 2D GPU option and I have not have any problems since. I want people to try this and see if you still get any reboots or crashes. The solution could be easier than we thought.
Mine has been disabled for a few days, but still getting the random reboots/ freezes.
Every time mine resets once it comes back on it starts updating apps. Not sure if that happens to everybody else. Or if it is even related.
Mine had restarted a couple of times while using chrome. Once while in gallery. Other than that it's been really smooth sailing. It never started updating apps after a restart though, possibly timing? However you did say it has happened a few times so not sure.
Had a random reboot the first time I turned it on with the original software version but haven't had a reboot since. Not sure what the reason was to begin with but seems to have been resolved with software update

I think the updating apps might just be a play store check right after boot. If you know an app to be updated but haven't checked play store, try resetting your device, you might see it do that same thing.
Of course, I might be wrong, mine froze twice after finishing installing an app (dropbox the first time and a game the second)
I am suddenly getting a bunch of reboots and I really can't understand how or why. I can not uninstall any program else it will reboot instantly. is there any solution?
I don't get why people are still posting random solutions with placebo effects. It's been found using logs from crashes that it's due to the location services. That's why people initially thought it was HD Widgets, because they use location services for weather. That's why it still happens after a factory reset...
So do you have a solution ?

I seem to have issues when using Google products. I do NOT use chrome. An example, earlier tonight setting up a different Google wallet account my N10 froze and rebooted again. It was doing well for a while. (no chrome, no background sync in currents, no HD widgets) until 3 days ago. Now I am getting about one a day. Makes me mad, because it ran well for about 2 1/2 weeks. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary since then. I have had it set up the way I like since I got it on the 21st of Nov. (Lucky to get one on opening day 32gb.) I will have just shut off force rendering in developer options. I will post back here in a few days to report my findings. I hope this is a fix!! I believe it may be that, I did enact FR a bit ago but not sure when...
freezing and rebooting
I've tried everything and still keep getting the random reboots and yesterday my table started freezing a lot wasn't having that problem before it's frustrating
this was my first Nexus device and will be my last i sold my samsung galaxy tab 10.1 for this one and it's been nothing but headaches i've already replaced two tabs and i'm on my third becasue google keeps telling me to replace the unit and i asked them about a fix and tech support told me they were not aware of any issues can you believe that BS i'm very dissappointed with this device Samsung built a great tab for google and google messed it up. I really don't know if i can wait for a software fix. Feel like taking the tab and smashing it.

LG-P760 stock Android 4.1.2
Only basic apps, FB, gmail etc.
1. Factory/hard reset
2. Works around 3-4 days perfectly, then starts to crash.
By crash I mean black screen, nothing helps, only battery pull.
3. After first crash, starts crashing more frequently. Happens only in standby.
Worst was today: If I start phone, log in, then it wont crash before I put it in standby. First time in standby, within 30 second, it had crashed.
twice crashed when someone tried to call me. Vibrated once, then crashed.
I would like to avoid replacing my phone.
Any ideas how to find the source of this problem? Any recommendations?

I had the same problem with Vietnam Rom and it was the baseband. I changed to the baseband from ICS from a Rom of my country so I have Vietnam Rom+Original ICS baseband and everything works well.
Thanks.
Although, I understand it mostly is problem when you have unlocked bootloader.
I am running stock everything.
And they have problem with rebooting phone, mine crashes and freezes.
Weird is that it starts around third day of normal use.
I think I have to take on a quest with a warranty. Does anyone know, can I contact LG straight without the provider, where I bought the phone?

I haven't unlocked it. The problem was the same: SOD sleep of death, when the screen goes off you can't do anything but pull the battery.
But if you can use the warranty use it. You should find the warranty info in the box to know where send it in your city.

Thanks. I will search into it. Sleep of death is new expression for me.
I only have phone, it came from relatives who threw away receipt + box.
Luckily I managed to get new receipt from provider yesterday (I dont think they usually give out receipts twice), so now I can use local warranty.
Thanks everyone for replying. I will post update when I have final solution.
Since you are stock you might want to consider flashing the kdz to see if that helps. Good luck!

I'm having the exact same issue with mine. I've heard everything from "try a different SD card" to "factory reset," and nothing seems to permanently fix the issue. What I've found kind of sort of works is just reboot it a whole bunch until it finally comes up and doesn't do it any more. From there, I'm good to go until the battery runs out or I need to reboot it because all the bloatware is causing it to glitch. This usually means that I have to reboot my device 10+ times in a row every few days. Hopefully, you found a more viable fix than this.

Hi
I managed to kind of solve this issue. Because I am not sure how, I haven't closed thread yet.
Anyway, I warranted device, they re-installed soft. Came back, same thing. After around weeks use, SOD. Factory reset. After that, things went interesting.
I tried not to leave it idle. Always had something running. I also had noticed by the time it never occurred when it was plugged in or music was playing.
One day it did it again, but I was in a hurry and just disregarded it. I did something(I was busy, maybe just plugged it in automatically?) and it came back up. It took like 10 sec for screen to start, but it did just wake up. And it haven't had crash ever since. I have no idea is this solution or is this just some coincidence and I am not keen to factory reset again, to see will it reoccur. It's my only phone
TLDR: Managed to get out of sleep of death, haven't reoccurred since.
Any know or have an issue with their VZW S4 rebooting on completely stock rom? I have a friend and her sister both have S4's and both will reboot up to 5 times a day. It appears to be high CPU usage apps, but I am not completely sure. It happens looking in Gmail, Chrome, Message, etc. She has already replaced it once in the store.

Is the phone getting hot? It may be rebooting since it's overheating.
What you need to do is to understand why those applications are eating CPU. Perhaps clearing data on them will help.

It is not getting hot at all. If you open Chrome, click any website, and while it loads -- phone reboots. If you then wait for it to boot up, open the Gmail app -- it's possible just scrolling through email for it to freeze. It's strange really. Hell, at one point, she walked out side to send a text and it just reset. It also reset on me after I pulled the USB cable out.
This is her second phone with this issue. The first one stop charging for some reason. Her sister had the exact same issue. Is there any known apps that run in the background that may cause it?
I haven't seen anything on random reboots for the S4 so it's strange.
