[Q] how to install linux on canvas HD ? - Micromax A116

??????

Windows Equivalent of Linux = Android
yes, really what it needs to be done is
BRING ORIGINAL LINUX TO THOSE "BRICKS" CALLED android phones
this 'android' thing is just a bunch of googles spy utility and nothing more. See wht silly limitations are there in this android are
> u cant connect to ad-hoc wifi bcos android dont support (or bcos the google jst dont want it to)
> u can share phone net but cant share pc net (ya, must b google didnt wanted it, i know there r workarounds but why not a simple clik thing ?)
> u need to root it to get REAL access to phone, (n to protect ur privacy which is "illegal") (silly isnt it? I paid for the phone n I own it. I mst hav access to its os just as I hav with pc, that simple)
> uncontrolled ADs pour into ur phone (jst cursed bcos u dnloaded a "free" app)
> mfr making screen larger n google 'eats-up' that by blocking precious part of it jst for useless buttons (dont they hav slight sense of product design ?)
> u need to change the brick to upgrade it to newer version, haah, man give me a break... (google have beaten MS, even Windows was able to upgrade for couple of versions with same hardware)
> why we need some "corporate toy" to curse us, at our expense
LET'S BRING BACK THE REAL LINUX IN OUR PHONES

Firstly, thanks for putting so much information about your phone.
All you need to do is go to the Android ROM section for the HD2 on here and select an ROM you like the look of. The chef of the ROM gives instructions on how to get Adnroid running.
You are not flashing Android to your phone, but actually running it from the SD Card. You download the files into a folder called Android in the root of the SD Card. Then you run two files in this folder. WinMo will shut down and reboot into Android (this initial boot will take about 20 minutes).
There is also an app in that section which gives you the option to switch between operating systems at bootup - this is installed in WinMo.
The only problem I have found is the first boot back to WinMo is that the time and date was totaly wrong. That problem disapeared the next time.
I won't recomend which ROM to use, as I haven't used Android that much and what I might like you may not.
thnxs for replyng but just tel me as there r too mny options ..i just need help tht wht rom wil b suitble for mine as it says tht u have 2 hve rom 10.6 or 201. sumthng like tht..
n i think i cudnt find tht andriod section for hd2..cus u give me a link plss
The only real requirement is to have a RADIO 2.8.50 or above (of the .50 type) - which you already have on your phone.
* HERE * is the one I used. I downloaded '512MB data.img' and 'DOWNLOAD v. 4.6'. I unzipped them and placed the files in 'Android' in the root of the SD Card. Used file explorer on the phone to run "CLRCAD.exe" then "haret.exe". The phone then booted into android. It looks good and runs well, although I haven't fully tested it. If you want to replace it with another, then simply replace the Android Folder.
I'm not giving you answers but i wanted to advise you :
When you use correct grammer and spelling, Good English, you will get more attention and more people will answer your question
yes thnk u soo much it wrkd but battry drains very fast..and why does it goes bck to htc sense after everytime its off.....do i need to run haret al the time after i switch it on?? arnt there any method where i can let it be on andriod ..??

your android system will remain the same, apps, contacts and all, every time you reboot - if you do not upgrade/update your android files.
And yes, you do need to go thru the same steps every time you reboot your phone. Run CLRCAD, then HARET.
There are a couple of autoload/booters floating around the forums. I personally use m_skip's autoloader (do a search, sorry, I don't have the link)
And yes, android does use up the battery pretty fast. There are a lot of helps to stop this - but you need to do your own searching on that in the android threads

Dual Boot WM6.5 & WP7 Coming?

I'm mostly a business user and neither Android or WP7 can fully do what poor little 6.5 can do as of now.
I did search this & saw in a link in:
HTC Leo: HD2HD2 Windows Phone 7HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A and General
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922030
but I thought that since 6.5 would have to be ported to an SD card, this topic shoould be in HD2 6.5 section? So I thought I'd start a thread here for any news or updates....
I know Cotulla/DFT is working on it. I would imagine there'd be a great interest in this. I personally can't wait.
Also a Question:
If/when it is ported, would a ROM have to be specifically made for each port i.e. Dutty ROM or KWBR ROM or would you be able to drop any ROM onto SD card?
I guess with 300,000+ subscribers I'm the only one....

I'm sorry if i come off as impatient. I'm really not. Just thought if the interest level was high, it would be more likely to happen sooner. I'll live just fine with what i got until it happens.
Me too
Would be great.
"poor little 6.5 can do as of now"....
well in my opinion it's not., my 6.5 is a BEAST! thats why i didnt switch yet to wp7 or android.. winmo 6.5 is the main source of everything stable and fast.. without it there will be no wp7 and android on our hd2..
Hi, I also would like this to happen, as i have inported WP7 to my HD2 which is good but lacks good apps.
As for WP7 im looking for a good sat nav like Tomtom and Copilot live 8, but they both say that they are not making one for WP7.
Thats why I would like to run WP7 and have a SD bootable WM6.5 for Tomtom or Copilot which I had before on my HD2 WM6.5
So please can someone make one
I to think being able to boot Window Mobile 6.5 from SD would be really awsome. We all know that the DFT has annouced they are working on makeing this possible but I beleive this is going to be even harder and take much longer than Andriod did. You have to take into consideration the meir size of the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS is so much bigger than other OS's. So compiling all the code to work in a SD format is going to take time. But if anyonr can do it the DFT are the ones. I really wish there was something I could do to help those vuys out with this venture, but I am not versed enough with writting and compiling code yet to be of any real assistance.
Kudoes to the DFT and all thier hard work.
wm6.5 to sd card
hi,
this is exactly what i wish, i hav tried wp7 on hd2 android sd version, but what makes wm6.5 as my preferd os is
- wm6.5 is less dependant on cellular data connectivity
-ease of access to file system through file explorer and total commonder, though android has evolved from very little to a lot better explore but still u cant beat the wm6.5
- a lot of file and work can be accessed & edited if u wish to work offline
- wp7 & android have made user more dependant on online storage of documents & programs so i feel like being dependant on the online storage
- Most important point is that the progrem setup cabs can be saved on the device and it gives the ease and conveniance to install mod or work back to user coustomization without the need to connect to the desktop/laptop or data connection.
So all in all wm6.5 is still preferable as a choice as one of the os if there is dual boot(in my case wp7&wm6.5 dual boot)
all i can say is though i do like wp7 but until it gives evolves to the freedom & ease offer wm6.5 i think we feel the need of having wm6.5 sd port/rom.
if any developer will be working on porting wm6.5 to sd card i will be happy to contribute to him.
Please if any developer is already doing so then kindly point me to that place
My gut feeling is this won't happen :-(
saving setups
@pinkjpr: there's a solution for your last problem, though it's a bit complicated. Install your program via the marketplace. Then also need ASTRO file manager (probably other tools, maybe even free ones, will be suitable as well). Now go to tools-->SD-Backup Manager (or something like that, can't remember the name). Chose the program you want to backup, click the "save" button (or similarly named). Now you can use the search function to look up your newly created apk (distinguish between them via date of creation). Tap and hold +send via mail or connect your phone to the PC and copy the apk on your computer.
The first step (Backup Manager) isn't always necessary.

Anon1811:-
My friend, u r missing my point,. please correct me if i m wrong, but apk files are for android os, just like the cab files in wm6.x, and i am referring about wm6.x & wp7,
secondly most of the android applications are web based and advertizement sponcered so u need a working data connection to use most of them (i m not saying all of them). & that brings u back to working internet data, and if u are in a remote location where u dont have network then u hav only limited functionality& cant use most of apps, so the device is more like a flash light or a paper waight,
finally about customization, i am not saying backup restoration, i am saying a fresh installation with what ever apps u want to use again and leave the ones u dont wish to,
and lastly u are saying to connect to PC/Laptop, so again u must carry ur laptop with you so u back to the dependence on PC & data connectivity
i think u havent explored windows mobile for long so u are underestimating its potential compared to android

FAR Manager

Hi all,
I am applying SE modding since SE K750 era... now i m on android but still on SE.. accessing internal file system on those K series phone was thru FAR Manager and it was a really handy tool at that time..!
I didnt find (yet) any thing like this on android, where u can just shutdown the phone and apply changes to it by simple method with GUInterface from PC.
PS: it may sound n00b but atleast its handy

how to detect spy software like flexispy, mspy, phonesheriff, ikeymonitor, ... ?

I don't want to factory reset my phone nor do I want to reflash lineage os.
I just want to detect if there is some spy software on my phone. Software like flexispy, mspy, phonesheriff, ikeymonitor, thetruthspy, ....
I found one app that claim to find them but I doubt its effectivness (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antispycell.free&hl=fr)
One blog from some years ago claims that the anti-virus made a poor job to detect such softwares. (I can't find that page again)
Some site suggested to use an access point to sniff traffic. That's what I did with my raspberry pi but I got only a bunch of encrypted traffic from my phone (https). So it was not helpfull beside getting a list of IP or at best domain name. You can tell much with that. The next step would be to MITM with ssldump or sslsplit but that's more technically challenging for me
Is there other tool available ? an app ? a site of a good soul that maintain a list of file installed that such spy app and that you could find manually by using an (root) explorer of /system or /data ?
Thanks
