I'm curious what NFC apps folks are using with NFC tags for basic stuff like turning bluetooth on/off, silent on/off etc. Also, are some apps better or worse than others in terms of battery drain?
If you just need the basic functions like Bluetooth, wifi, silent mode then you can use the built-in app by using xperia smart tags.
You can make your own: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23104302&postcount=1
Don't have the xperia tags, only generic ones, so I guess the Sony app won't work with those.

There is a program in Google play - SmartTag Maker
It makes sony smart tag from any nfc tag
I am using Trigger and it works great with non Sony tags.

I think I'll just try any old writer because I plan to use the tags with AutomateIt so once the tags are written I won't need that app anymore

Hay guys
I was wondering if there are any good applications which would make use of the IR blaster on my HTC ONE
for example TV remote control apps
because i searched the net and couldn't find any good app that works with HTC ONE'S IR Blaster

I'm just using the included "TV" app and it's working excellent. Not only does it give you Remote functionality, but also will pull in your provider's channel guides/listing for your viewing pleasure
irdroid or androidirc,
you can google it ,to find the right site to download, i did'nt find any application in google play

Honestly, Sense TV app that comes with the phone, does a real good decent job as a Remote app.

OP's question is still relevant. Until we have market apps that utilize the IR blaster, this is yet another feature that's dependent upon using a Sense-laden ROM.
Look up peel on the playstore... I haven't used it yet but it's supposedly used with devices with an ir port.

Ha gave a link anyway...
I'm looking for alternatives too, the built in App doesn't support my denon receiver and I can't seem to figure out how to tell the remote I want to use the menu button on my TV sometimes and not my DVR.
Not sure of any apps, but there are workarounds to your problems. Create completely separate remotes for your devices when you don't want overlap, or if it's just one button that overlaps you can map that to one of the buttons on the HTC remote app that you aren't using (for me, that's the "." button on the number pad).
Will the remote app still not support your receiver if you do it the hard way (programming each button)? Or is just that you would rather not have to go through that (understandable).

I'd rather not have to program each button. I'm longing for the Harmony folks releasing a remote app. Activity based remotes are awesome.
I'm actually looking for an app that will mimic the Apple Remote so that I can control my Macbook with it.
I am just looking for an app that will skip all the programming BS and just left me use it as a remote. I don't have any service as I use 100% streaming and downloading for my content. Also simple functions like power/input take extra button presses. Should be much easier than it is.

The problem with this is it requires a separate hub and doesn't make use of the built-in IR blaster. I too yearn for a Harmony-like app that makes use of my IR blaster...

[APP][IR][ALPHA] ONE To Remote Them All
Found this one. Doesn't work for aosp that I can tell though.
Sent from my ONE CM10.1
the ir blaster prbly will never work on asop. it is missing the required drivers for it.
IS there any way to use the HTC One as a remote for my Nikon D7100? I know I've got an IR blaster, Bluetooth, esc... But I'm not sure if there is any way to go about using it as a remote shutter activator. My camera does not have Bluetooth, however it does have to inferred receivers.
Let me know if you guys have any idea.
Thanks

sure, you just need to make a app for that.
Moved to Q&A
Ir blaster on the ONE is kinda pointless.

you can
not true. using it with my D7000 and it works just fine. you just have to create a new remote then when it says choose tv brand you select unkown manufacturer and then you go an manually teach the phone what you want to do. now, providing that you already have a remote compatible with your camera you just pres the remote button and set it to whatever button from the remote you want. there are 26 of them so there are plenty  i set mine to the OK one because i think it is the easyest one to hit. enjoy!
This app looks interesting for stuff like that: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.remotefairy2&hl=en but I wasn't (yet) aware you could train the built-in remote from HTC as described in the above post.
shameless plug
Shameless plug here, but I put together an app that does exactly this
There are a few on the play store, but search for "SLR Camera IR Remote" for mine (been a long time member here, but been lurking a lot.. so I don't have enough posts to post external links).
I wish the remote app was a bit simpler. Having to bounce all over to control my tv and dvr is rather annoying...
It should just need an update to add the capability to recognize other things such as cameras that have IR sensors (personally I didn't know such a thing existed)
The app needs a squeeze to put as much control as possible into one screen so you don't have to bounce back and forth. A toggle somewhere to swap between as well. Won't happen unless someone makes an app or HTC decides to see their folly.
Still, it's unique, so it's nice to use when I don't feel like gettin up for the actual remote lol.

I understand there is a music player. You can control the music from the music player on your phone or on your watch, but I use Spotify most of the time and don't actually have any music on the phone itself. Right now I have the Gear Live and it works great for media control. Anything that would pop up controls on my lock screen, for instance: I also get controls for video too like Netflix when I'm streaming to Chromecast. I've been unhappy with the very limited cards interface of Android Wear and was looking at the Gear S but I really need media controls.
Also will the Gear S only work with Samsung Messages? Can I use Samsung Messages on the watch while using something else on my phone? Right now I'm using the Google Messenger app they just released with the beautiful material design look.
I would love it to have basic Bluetooth music controls also which is a MUST. Very few ppl still use the stock music apps and not online services.
That way we can control other devices and stereos also.

Hm. So the Media Controls app doesn't seem to have made it to the Gear S even though it is on the Gear 2 and all of the others. Not sure why it isn't there.
The Gear S will only work fully with Samsung's messaging app on the phone. Hangouts functionality beyond notifications is locked down to Android Wear and Android devices by Google.
So there is no Spotify control on gear s? ?
I control Spotify flawlessly from my gear s. It's a wonderful feature.
Actually there is one. Stock music player is the basic bluetooth media controller.. just click 3 dots on the bottom right of the widget. Then you have option to 1 control device and 2 control music on the gear. Choose control device. Now you can control the media with your gear s.
I call samsung as samsuck but its not that sucks to remove basic bluetooth media controller. Hope it helped =)

Stock Gear S (EU version at least) fully work with Hangout. You can answer by canned answer or by Keyboard or by Voice Input You must install also the Wear app even if you have not a Wear Device, (answer API are in Wear app and not on phone app)
Otherwise there are app on store for extended notification wich works for Gear S with not last firmware (from specific operator).
The Gear Notification Extender app in the Play Store let's me use forward and backward and pause controls when I'm listening to Google Play Music from my phone.
Note: This particular one is for Samsung TVs only:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...samremote.view
(However, they have apps for all major brands of TVs. This app actually works worlds better than the remote that came with the TV.

THESE ARE ALL 100% FREE. Turns out an IR Blaster has a really simple workaround, and you'll have it set up in like 30 seconds. You don't even have to be in the same ROOM to mute the volume/change the channel/or whatever it is that your friends are yelling at you to do. It works from anywhere in the house.
What app is it since the app has been removed?

Weird. It's called "Remote for Samsung TV" on the Play Store. If you have a problem downloading it from the Play Store directly, lmk, and I'll try using some different rooted devices to get you an actual copy.

This seems to be the one he is listing, as from FreeAppsTV... but unless he knows a trick I don't, it's only going to work with wifi-enabled smart TVs and monitors and isn't really a replacement for the IR function.
This app only works if you have a wifi enabled TV. If it's not a smart TV then this app is useless. But good find for the smart TV's...

Also it can not turn on your T.V. but it can turn it off. The whole point with having a remote control is to turn your TV on.
