How to update my android to a newer version? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I've bought a Samsung Galaxy s3 about 1.5 years ago. Its android version is 4.0.4 right now.
I need to update it to a new version but my problem is whenever I try to update it (by going to Setting-->About device-->Software update), it gets me the ugly message: "no update available" , while we all know that the latest version of Android already is 4.4 ! so there must be something to update.
By the way, I put some of the information of my phone here :
Baseband version: I9300XXLH1
Kernel version: 3.0.15-928452-user
Build number: IMM76D.I9300XXBLH1
AP: I9300XXBLH1
CP: I9300XXLH1
CSC: I9300OJVBLH1
Would you please help me out? I need to update it as soon as possible.
Thanks in advance

[Q] "This version of this device cannot be updated" - ZSKF4

Hey guys,
For some reason, Kies isn't letting me update.
It says: "This version of this device cannot be updated"
Do you know why this is happening?
These are my specs:
Model Number: GT-I9100
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: I9100XXKE4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100ZSKF4-CL280225
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.ZSKF4
My CSC is in (KOR) format, and I'm trying to upgrade my firmware from ZSKF4 to ZSKI3, which is an upgrade from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5, anyone know what the problem is?
Thanks,
Nicholas

2.3.6 unavailable - unlocked international phone

Hello,
I have an unlocked international version of the Galaxy S2 / i9100.
I received a message telling me to check for OTA updates. However, when I check it it tells me there are no updates available.
Unlocked phones are supposed to get the updates first, so I wonder why I'm not getting the 2.3.6 update.
This is the information it shows (it isn't rooted or anything):
Model: GT_I9100
Android Version: 2.3.4
Base band version: I9100XXKI1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575468 [email protected] #2
Compilation number: GINGERBREAD.XWKI4
Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't think we will see 2.3.5 or 2.3.6. We'll get the ICS update first though.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

[Q] No Kies Support - How to get the right region/firmware?

Hi all,
I have bought a second hand Samsung Galaxy S 2 in China.
The Android version installed is 2.3.3; I tried to do an update via Kies but I got the infamous message that "firmware update is not supported" for my device. I understand from other posts in the forum that maybe the firmware installed is not matching with the original region of the device, in this case I should install the right firmware in order to get the support from Kies, am I right?
But my question is...how do I know the original firmware/region for my model?
The data of the device are the following:
Model Number: GT-I9100
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: I9100XXKE4
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE7-CL215725 [email protected] #2 (does this mean the phone has been rooted?)
Build Number: QUENS.GINGERBREAD.XWKE7
Plus, when I connect to Kies the current firmware version detected is:
I9100XWKE7/I9100XEUKD1/I9100XXKE4/I9100XWKE7 (DBT)
Sorry for the noob question, I tried to figure out from the sticky post and used search but I am still confused...(yes, I got intimidated by the welcoming video of the forum)
Thanks

Its not posible to know without evidence guess maybe.

NO its the signature
Build Number: QUENS.GINGERBREAD.XWKE7
That reads as a custom rom by Quens ???
Plus, when I connect to Kies the current firmware version detected is:
I9100XWKE7/I9100XEUKD1/I9100XXKE4/I9100XWKE7 (DBT)
If its a i9100 and no other version pick a stock rom from the stock roms posts .
With later firmware and to match region phone is used in .

[Q] New Device. Kies Not Showing FW Info.

Hi,
I am fairly new to smart phone development so please go easy on me this time
First, some info on my environment:
MacBook Pro
Mac OS X 10.7.5
Samsung GT-I9100
No SIM card installed yet
Samsung Kies 2.0.0.12095_7
Model Number: GT-I9100
Adroid Version: 4.0.3
Baseband Version: I9100UHLPE
Kernel Version: 3.0.15-I9100UHLPE-CL200654 [email protected] #3
Build Number: IML74K.UHLPE
Location: Eastern Standard Time, USA
So, my Samsung i9100 arrived this week from NewEgg.com. I was surprised it came installed with Adroid Version 4.0.3. Then I read that Samsung recently released 4.0.4 so I installed Kies, hoping to upgrade to 4.0.4.
In Kies, under Firmware Information, I see the following:
This is the latest firmware.
Current firmware version: PDA:LPE / PHONE:LPE / CSC:LPE(TTT)
Latest firmware version: PDA:LPE / PHONE:LPE / CSC:LPE(TTT)
I read that the firmware version can also be obtained by opening the dial pad and typing *#1234# So I did that and found this:
PDA: I9100UHLPE
PHONE: I9100UHLPE
CSC: I9100UUBLPE
Build Info: Fri Mar 9 13:49:34 KST 2012
Now I am confused:
1.) Did my phone arrive from NewEgg with an official Samsung Android version?
2.) Why is Kies not displaying the firmware version and how can I fix it?
3.) Assuming I get Kies fixed, lets say I want to wipe my phone, start from scratch, and install the official Samsung version of 4.0.4 Is that possible and how?
4.) Any other recommendations?
Thanks for your help!

baseband and firmware are not the same as you know. if the rom you used to upgrade did not include a new baseband/radio it will keep the old one. You can upgrade it though by flashing one of the basebands/radios you can find in the General Section's collection threat.
