If the n9 used Qualcomm, I would have purchased it already. All of the nvidia chips seem to get way too hot (proving how inefficient they are due to excessive energy loss in the form of heat)

I seriously have no idea why or how you have any lag ... Sorry .. In have the nexus 5 the one plus one nexus 7 note 4 HTC m8 iPad air ... And the nexus 9 and this tablet pretty !much beats all of em with no hesitation. May be you got a defective brandmor something like that. Hope everything works out for you. Good luck

Is the most powerful chip on the market the Android and it destroys the SD805 that's in my G3 cat 6 so I don't know where you are getting that it's not powerful enough. My G3 cat 6 benchmarked at 47k on antutu this gets 56-57k.
Also Google wanted to go 64 bit. I don't think Qualcomm has anything for 64 bit yet.
I agree I was hesitant, but it's s Nexus so at least source will be accessible. And we'll probably be getting an update in the next week or so anyway. All Nexus devices get a start up update and then another one in a couple weeks. At least it feels like this.

This is also a valid point. The Nexus seems to be very fluid, but I always use Nova and scale animations to 0.5 because that's what I do on all my devices including my Nexus Player. I don't think the SD 810 will be that much better than the K1 Denver but only time can tell, besides this is the best possible cool they could have used so good on Google.
You did try a reboot, right? MIne way also laggy as well until it did my first reboot.
I had the same lagging issue.
Pressing home button for instance took approximately 5 seconds to react and reach the home screen. Also the home was redrawing very often.
Clicking the multisaking button could take up to 4 seconds....
I solved it by wiping my tablet completly. Factory settings. And did not restore from a previous backup but set it up as a new tablet. Just installed neccesseray apps myself one by one. And now it's working properly ! Maybe it can work for you too.

Lartomar i recognise you from the TF700 section and I can say without shadow of a doubt the Nexus 9 blows my TF700 out of the water completely.
Yes it does blow away the TF700 but one major problem I did not mention was the smaller form factor. I normally use the tab in landscape mode, with the Asus with the larger screen bezels and my large hands it was a good thing but, with the Nexus in landscape mode my left thumb was constantly pressing on the screen creating some unusual problems, it may have also have had some thing to do with the lag. I am thinking about the Sony Xperia Z2 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5. They both have a good CPU and GPU.
Try flashing one of the kernels. Nexus 9 /data is encrypted by default and hurts performance IMO. For some reason one of the FS mount options was force encryption, so you'll have to flash kernel then wipe or data will stay encrypted.
If someone wants the stock kernel but no encrypted data let me know when I get a change I'll change it in the boot image but keep the stock kernel.

Just curious as to what the next Android device you want to get? Things keep advancing so fast, quad cores are coming to trend now and with Kit-Kat, there are a lot of possibilities. I'm considering switching from Sprint to AT&T, to get the LG G2! I'm so tired of Sprint and how crazy slow they are... I can get more, and significantly faster data with AT&T. The beizels on the G2 are a huge selling point for me, fitting a 5.2 inch screen into the same form factor as an HTC One is impressive. Not to mention the quad core 2.2 GHz processor on it... That's ridiculous, and I love my Nexus, but my god, that makes this look average... What about y'all?

I know what you mean! Things are progressing at such a ridiculous rate in the mobile world; its incredible. Especially Intel. They've made an absolutely shocking amount of progress in the past year. They've basically done what took ARM companies 3-4 years in 12 months. I'm really looking forward to Intel chips in our smartphones and tablets; we'll finally be able to crush Apple's in-house designs!
As for my next device, I'm definitely going to be getting the Nexus 5. A 5" device with a Snapdragon 800, OIS, Android 4.4 and other incredible hardware? Count me in! I sold my Galaxy Nexus a few weeks back, after the Nexus 4 price drop (I got a shockingly good price for it, too) in preparation for the N5. Now, I realize that SOME of the leaked specifications may not be totally accurate, but I am also hoping that we get the 5" display in the smaller-than-Nexus 4 frame. That would totally sell it for me.
I will probably will continue to use my galaxy nexus until it dies. It have been an excellent phone.
If it dies however I will buy the Nexus 5 midst likely.
I don't think i could use anything else other than a Nexus and be happy with it. Mainly because of the updates.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition. Used the Spencer features and they can't be beat if doing a large amount of sketching.
But I may wait until spring as the N10 is still great. Use a capacitive stylus with good results.
I only got the Nexus 10 this summer, so I'm good with my tablet for a long while I hope.
My Droid RAZR M I got last October, so I would sooner replace that. If I decide to leave Verizon next time, then I may well go for a Nexus for a phone as well. I love getting the latest official updates OTA.

I actually gave this some more thought, and I do not think I will go Nexus on my next phone for one reason, I want to keep a microsd slot. I keep a ton of music and other files on my phone I simply don't need on my tablet, and it irritates me such a simple convenience is being phased out by so many new phones. Screw the cloud model, I want my files on me when I want them without a connection.

Sigh... me, too. I've been wanting to come on this thread and pledge allegiance to the phone I hope the Nexus 5 will be. If it's a Snapdragon 800 / Adreno 330 / 1080p / 3000 mAh G2 with standard button placement and at least 2 Gb of RAM... running pure, unbloated, updated Android... then the Nexus 5 will be a stun-gun of a phone for 2013. (darn it... just drooled on my N10.)
But... we get all that and no removable memory? I know, that would mean space, weight, cost, whatever. But Samsung can do it on their flagships (with the added benefit of replaceable batteries). Seems like such a simple thing for winning freedom from needing access to a good WiFi signal.
If the N5 overcomes the N4's hardware limitations that now prevent the use of Nexus Media Importer -- and along with it the unrooted read/write use of USB card readers & memory sticks -- that'd go a long way. Let's just say I'm not holding my breath, since Google appears to have a different agenda.
For a brand that touts such an open OS, the box they put it in sure is closed.

I always only had 16 gb Sd cards so going from 16 gb s3 to 32 gb HTC didnt make a single difference for me I have 8 gb of music and about 10 gb free on device for movies, and i think thats the space i need.

OK... But you had to pay a lot more for that 32GB model I bet. My Droid RAZR M came with 8GB built in, and for only $20 I added another 32GB. I can even upgrade it to a 64GB microsd for less than $50. Good luck trying to get that kind of bargin upgrade on a non-microsd phone. Another added benefit... Let's say your phone meets an untimely death in the laundry machine, well at least with microsd your photos and music are perfectly safe.

I'll get a Galaxy Nexus 2 when it comes (I hope it does). My Galaxy Nexus holds up for a while and I use my Nexus 10 for gaming. I'm not a fan of lg. I hope Samsung will produce a Nexus phone again.

I'm hoping with the SG Note 3, the LG G2 -- and hopefully the Nexus 5 -- already or soon to be running the Snapdragon 800, we'll start to see some cool 64-bit apps. When the 64-bit world takes hold, that could be a nice time to pick up a SG S5. Samsung should have multitasking to a new level by then, too.

Hope Snapdragon 800 has better battery management than Snapdragon 600 or else i wouldnt worth it to upgrade imho. The speed upgrade means nothing, only think that makes your phone faster is a well tuned rom/kernel. My ex Galaxy S3 with Cm10.2 and a custom kernel is the fastest thing i've ever used by a ridiculous mergin. Everything happens instanlty and its last gen,
Also my HTC ONE with the 4.3 official Rom is also like a new phone. So much faster and battery life is like 2x what it used to be.
SideNote for Lg G2. Will lg EVER make a decent looking phone? I am sorry but i dont care if Lg G2 is the best phone ever released, its so boring looking i would never consider buying.

I agree, the G2 looks kinda plain -- at least while viewing it on a 2D screen. Could be pretty comfortable in the hand, though, with those backside curves. I was a little surprised, papakaliati, to hear you say you're interested in the Nexus 5 after what you had to say about LG and specifically their G2. Most folks are thinking it will be LG manufacturing the Nexus 5 and that it'll look a lot like the G2.
Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 32GB model. Already have it on pre-order. I had always said that the perfect device would be the Note 10.1 with the Nexus 10 screen, and voila! Can't wait!
An 8 inch Android tablet, probably the LG G Pad 8.3 because it's the first one to have 1080p. Or the next Note 8.0.
The Nexus 10 is too big to play games, etc.

I agree that there's no point in trying to go any faster than 'instantly' ...sounds like you had a sweet setup with your S3!
With Kit Kat supposedly supporting ARM-64 and with Qualcomm, Tegra & Exynos -- and AMD & Intel? -- all producing 64-bit mobile processors in 2014, some interesting 64-bit applications might not be far behind, as well as some significant energy demands, like you've pointed to. I bet power-management & battery-design teams are putting in all-nighters to bring us more innovations like big.LITTLE... and to overcome the downsides of lithium-sulfur technology, which could increase battery life by a factor of 4.
Yeah, I wasn't talking about new processors running 32-bit apps faster, though there will, of course, be some performance gains as we'll as some overhead hits. I was thinking about the new capabilities heading our way once applications cross over into 64-bit territory -- whenever that is -- and not just better encryption and data-bunkering.
We'll be looking at real-time audio and image editing, providing such things as on-the-fly video-effects management... and faster vector processing, which game devs will surely take advantage of, like Infinity Blade III has for Apple's new phone. I'm eager to see the impact of 64 bit on multimedia multitasking. General improvements in multitasking could get us to the 32-bit 4Gb RAM ceiling surprisingly soon.
After that, the 64-bit RAM upper limit of 16 Exbibytes -- 17.18B Gigabytes -- should hold us a while!

They already have pics of the nexus 5 and a 3d rendering. You should check them out. The phone is a. Little plain. They got rid of the glass back and went with that rubbery plastic which is better durability i guess but not as good looking. They also got a bigger screen then nexus 4 with a smaller frame. :sly:

Hi everyone. As you know, Android 4.4.4 has just came out, and it's already available on the developers.google.com, and with I/O taking place in just 5 days - the excitement for the future of Android is beyond imagination.
But, this tablet came out 1.5 years ago, and seeing how many updates were already released for N10 starting from 4.2 up 'till 4.4.4 - I'm concerned about one thing: is this the last official update this device will receive? But even if we'll get 4.5/5.0, the support of this tablet will end sooner or later, as the developer community will fade away one day.
So, when the dark hour comes - what will YOU do with your Nexus 10?
I'm having the not-so-great times with mine as the perfomance is slightly disappointing, especially the lack of RAM (only 1GB) and the lack of 3G/LTE capabilities (and having to tether it to my phone isn't always reliable, due to coverage and the battery drain coming from the Hotspot being turned on most of the time, as well as having two devices slowly eating away my data cap (with both devices having autosync on and the N10 being my main connectivity device when I'm not at home, mainly at university),
So, personally, I'm looking for alternatives... and there's quite honestly not so many of them out there :/
But enough about me, what's your call on this matter?
I will keep it and install a custom ROM - long life to AOSP
Or maybe will buy Xiaomi MiPad
I think we will receive two major updates, and that will be the same for Nexus 4.
Still a great Tablet in my opinion. I'm planning on keeping it for sometime to come and will always run latest available ROM.
Ill keep it until it dies. then if there is no new N10, I'll switch to something with HDMI out, probably the Surface 3 RT when it comes out.

I'll be keeping it, sure it'll take longer to arrive unnoficial updates, but as long as I receive it I'll be glad. It's still a pretty good device, I guess I'd change it only in 2 more years, and it'll probably be either a new Nexus or a Sony tablet.

My target from when I bought the N10 was to keep it for three years (clock started Mar 2013). I'm hoping my next purchase would have specs such as 64bit processor, 4GB memory, screen size and resolution no less than the N10. I definitely expect a screen color/Gama control app. As media consumption is my primary usage the best color reproduction is essential. The N10 can already handle the highest bit rate video in my collection I'd expect no less but that is not a stretch. I'd also prefer a Qualcomm processor but I'm flexible on that score.
The N10 has been a pleasant surprise in how much I use it. I couldn't have predicted the amount of my media consumption has moved from my PC to the N10. It's been a real eye opener.
Of the current crop of tablets the only one to catch my eye is Samsung's Tab S 10.5, except of course for Knox's ability to detect rooting and the resulting voiding the warranty. That's why both my phone and tablet are Nexus devices. Consumers need to be empowered as we are purchasing not renting despite what some companies think. Maybe the roomered Google's Silver program can provide that option. Knowing me I'll not be able resist rooting after the hardware checks out despite the risk.

1GB available to the user, 1GB eaten away by the crappy Mali HPU, in the end I'm left with ~800MB free if I'm lucky, most of the time it varies from 700 to 500, which is unbearable

I'm still happy with mine. An Xperia Tablet Z2 with Nexus branding would get me to upgrade. Nothing else I have seen looks more interesting than my Nexus 10.

When the nexus 10 is no longer listed in the Google Play store then I'll believe it will not be updated with a Nexus 2.
When a tablet is no going to be produced it gets removed from the store.
The fact that it is still there leads me to believe something is still up with it.
But I'll keep mine.
I'm not changing my N10 until Nvidia comes out with a quad core Denver CPU, a Maxwell GPU and at least 4gb of RAM, so most likely at some point in the next year.
Looks like we should be getting the next upgrade. It will extend the life for another year easy. And then count on many devs out there that will do their best to bring future releases. Remember the hp touchpad? It went from gb and now I think is running kk.

I'll keep it for sure. A tablet is not something I'm willing to upgrade as often as my phone.
With a little tweaking this tablet performs really well (custom ROM and kernel, over clocking CPU and GPU). From where I stand, the only thing holding the N10 back somewhat is its 2GB of ram. If it had shipped with 3GB its performance and multitasking would improve tenfold. Although ram management was drastically improved with kit Kat and I can't wait to see what android L does performance wise.
Non the less, I still enjoy it very much!
I love my N10 and will keep it long after it's "retired". It does everything I want it to do. Once it's retired, it will still do everything I want it to do.
I browse, email, and read books on it - that's basically it. I don't care about the latest games or apps.
I know I'm not the typical user though.
I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the Nexus 9? And if I would be worth selling the Nexus 10 and jumping ship out wait until 5.0 lollipop is out and then see how out tablets hold their own.

I'm gonna wait for the update on mine. I really hope it improved the tablets performance and battery life. Because my batteries starting to suck. If it doesn't really make a difference i may sell mine but i probably won't get the nexus 9. I'm waiting to see how the xperia z4 tab turns out because the z3 compact like like a beast though i want something bigger.

Yeah I think I'll wait then. I was so disappointed with the kitkat update as it seemed to of made my tablets performance rubbish. When I had it, it was quick, snappy and a dream then the dreaded update and went down hill from there. I hope the 'L' update sorts that. But I can be doing with the wait haha so jealous of the guys with there nexus 4/5 haha.
I love my N10 and don't really have any issues with it. Like many, I use a custom ROM because it seems to get faster response to bug fixes and has more customizations. At first there were only a few ROMs and now there are many of them to choose. If I were to consider an upgrade, it would be to for possibly a bigger unit such as a 12" or 14" - even though I like the 10".
Already ordered Nexus 9. 10's battery is getting weak, screen has the yellow splotch and keeps getting buggier. I may keep the 10 for use around the house, but it won't stay as my daily user.
I think the nexus 9 looks nice, but I'm keeping my 10.
While I do like 4:3 aspect ratio more thatn 16:9, since I do mostly reading on the tablet, I don't see any big improvement on the Nexus 9, so I'm going to keep my N10 for a while.

'Not significant'?? Well i guess it depends in what area. The screen resolution is similar, but the screen cant possibly be anything other than far better. Its got more up to date Wifi, much much faster RAM and more of it, a CPU thats at least 5x faster in raw terms and a GPU thats an order of magnitude faster at least.
And all those specs on the N9 weren't necessary if Lollipop would truly bring an enormous performance update [emoji6]
I think we (the N10) can also forget the "coloring notification bar" like my N5 has with apps which have Material Design (like Gmail: red; Documents: blue; etc), because we didn't have transcluent not bar either with KitKat.
I'm intersted in seeing how well is N10 going to perform with 5.0, but I'm decided on getting the Nexus 9 anyway - I think the 4:3 9" device is a good compromise for using one device at home and outdoors or at university rather than having two separate devices for each task (I currently go to uni with N10 and use N7 at home due to its weight and portability)

I think we (the N10) can also forget the "coloring notification bar" like my N5 has with apps which have Material Design (like Gmail: red; Documents: blue; etc), because we didn't have transcluent not bar either with KitKat.

So it won't be transparent in lollipop either? That's sad and just seems like a lazy decision. I highly doubt that it lowers performance. Almost every custom rom has it as translucent and I haven't seen any performance drops on there

Yep I saw that just now as well. I can't wait hopefully we can get a factory image soon as tonight or tomorrow. (Its 6:36 right now eastern time) and still like 2:30 mountain time I think so its still resonab!e to expect it to day

I'm still very much sitting on the fence on this one. I use my N10 almost exclusively in portrait mode and find it really heavy and awkward to hold. Plus web browsing (and even PDF editing on large PDF's) on the N10 can still be a sluggish experience. The N9's 4:3 aspect ratio, ~180g weight saving and ultrafast chip would be really helpful in countering my main gripes with the N10.
The initial reviews though don't sound hugely promising - especially about the poor battery life (4-5 hours) and flimsy back cover...

Quite a few big reviewers have slated the N9 saying it's simply not worth the price tag.

Most of them have reviewed it before am 800 mb ota came out to fix any issues. They should've waited and Google should've not let them review until the ota was out. Wait for android authority's review they said they're gonna do it after spending a good amount of time with it. Also it's releasing at the same price point as nexus 10 and 20 dollars cheaper than nexus 10 for 32 GB version. So it's not really bad pricing. People just think that because of the nexus 7 being so cheap. Anyways you pretty much get an upgraded processor, upgraded GPU (which is very much needed for nexus 10) boom sound speakers (though the nexus 10 front speakers are pretty decent themselves) more compact device with only 1 inch smaller screen, much lighter and easier to hold. Slight camera upgrade as well. And probably a better screen even though the resolutions are the same. It's not that much of an upgrade over the nexus 10 but it's an update definitely. I myself am sticking with my nexus 10 since for my needs as a media device and some school stuff it's perfectly capable. Maybe I'll upgrade next year but after the nexus 10 I don't think I'll be getting a tablet anymore. More likely I'll get a touch laptop or one of those two in ones.

Well the N10 is both moving much more pixels (1600 x 2560) and the density is higher as well (300 ppi vs 288 ppi).
I got my Nexus 9 32gb lte a few months ago from a local retailer (JBHIFI) and there has been a few issues that have since popped up and i'm looking for advice on what i should do. I should start out by saying that it was a floor model with literally nothing else besides the tablet. No charger, no box, no Htc manuals or warranty cards (i know what they look like thanks to my Htc one x and Htc one M9) but at half the retail price i thought it was a good deal. The screen looked good with very little backlight bleeding ( only at the top and bottom and you can't really tell if you're not looking for it) and the housing looked to be in good shape as well but after a few months the issues started to pop up. The first issue i noticed was the tablet gets pretty hot to the point where i can't touch it, I'm not sure if it's a nougat issue but i doubt it, it's specifically hot around the top half and there's a crunching sound when i press down around the top 1/4 of the tablet which leads me to believe the copper shield is having issues. Second issue is the battery life has also taken a pretty big hit, i used to be able to get 6+ hours sot (managed 7 hours once) and now I'm barely able to get 4 hours sot with it frequently only getting about 3 1/2 hours sot before i have to charge it. Third issue is the air bubbles in the corners of the screen. I've got 3 separate bubbles along the top of my nexus 9, one in the top left and one in the top right corner and a small strip very close to the right corner air bubble. I know i have consumer laws on my side in case JBHIFI decide to do nothing to help me and i could force the issue if i wanted to. I'd like to get it fixed but these issues are making me look at other options like a new tablet (not much to choose from though). Any advice would be a great help.

My advice (having one of the finicky ones for nearly 2 years) is to return it. I don't think mine has any actual hardware issues but requires frequent wipes (at least every 8-12 weeks) to avoid lag, freezes, and reboots. The back of the tab-near camera-does get hot especially when using Chrome but the bubble issue would concern me.

Thanks for your reply. I went back to the store, spoke with the manager and they'll be taking it back with a full refund in the new year because of a massive hardware fault in his opinion. He asked if I could come back after the Christmas/Boxing Day madness which is fine with me. Thank you again for making up my mind on this.
I wish I could help with a suggestion for another tablet. The reason I still have mine is because I've found nothing better. I actually love the form factor, and when it's working well, the display is remarkable.

I loved my Nexus 9 when i got it but these issues have put a serious dampener on my love with the nexus line, Especially when I'm coming from the Nexus 7 2012 and the 2013 (2012 died from either a mobo failure or a nand failure but the thing served me and later my dad well. The 2013 was easily my best tablet experience to date and still is). Like you said the screen is amazing (minus the bubble issue) and i love the form factor, it's just a shame that google went with the "lets price everything higher" approach which screwed over Aussies with $1000+ Pixels. (128gb Pixel XL comes in at almost $1500) I'll be keeping an eye out on CES and MWC to see what comes out on the tablet scene but i'm hoping for a Galaxy Tab S3 to get announced or for Lenovo to come out with something amazing as they're really the only players in the Australian market outside of windows 2 in 1's from Asus, Hp, etc, Ipads and the Surface lineup.

Likewise, (and I think most people who use the N9 share this opinion)
When it works, its great. Sadly.....it doesn't always work great, biggest reason for this is that its a 64-bit android with only 2 gigs of memory. thus, your memory is 90% of the time near full capacity.
(Which is why I find my OnePlus 3 for instance with its 6gb of memory a godsend. It might be overkill but atleast I never ever have issues apps force closing etc due to no more memory available)

My first nexus was the Nexus 5, after which I bought the N9. The N5 was a remarkable phone....the N9 also managed to kill my love for the nexus line.
Pixel kosts around € 950,- for the 32gb version and around € 1175,- for the 128gb version in Europa). Which translates to around 1000~ 1250 dollars. Still not as bad as 1500 dollars but I will never ever in my life lay down that much money for just a phone.
Now, as far as recommended tablets go. I cannot recommend Samsung (We have a Tab Pro here aswell), simple verdict on that. Its slow, sluggish, comes with far too many un-installable system junk apps and Samsung can F*** right off with their locked bootloaders, anti-flash policies, KNOX and instant-warranty void if attempt to flash remotely anything.
If I were to count I'd say our Samsung Tab came with atleast 3~4 news apps which it will try to shove down your throat. (As they are baked into the default launcher so you can't even remove or disable them)
Maybe Sony/Lenovo comes out with a good tablet. The only other good aspect about N9 is that it features only Google default apps and very little to no bloat. So its rather clean.
Never thought I'd say this but, If you really need a good tablet. Personally, I'd recommend just getting an iPad instead (Coming from someone who uses 100% Android at all times)

The only reason i'm looking at a Galaxy Tab right now is because my mum and step dad came to visit and they both have a galaxy s7 edge and the thing bloody flies so i'm hoping that carries over to a future Tab S3 release if it ever comes out but you're right about the bloatware damn things came packed full of crap I wouldn't use but I think Samsung have actually bothered to optimize their skin more than in the past (before they upgraded, they had a galaxy S3 3g 1gig ram version and a og note and those things were turds) but i'll wait and see what happens as i'm not rooting or running custom roms anymore except on my old htc one x. (i'm alpha testing cm13 on it and it's going ok but damn are there issues we need to iron out). I don't think Sony is going to be doing another tablet even thought the z3 compact and the z4 were really good tablets from user and reviewer reports just from the amount of time between releases. It's been well over 18 months since the z4 tablet came out so i'm thinking they've pulled out of the tablet arena because of how poorly their mobile division is doing at the moment. I'm wary on lenovo because my dad had a bad experience with one of their recent 8" yoga tabs. Thing would constantly freeze, lockup then dad would have to reboot it manually so not the best experience there from a hardware point but the software is pretty bare bones and stock like but with lenovo icons, you get the standard google suite of apps and some lenovo additions, some are good and some are horrible (why they changed the look of multitasking and put in their own gallary i don't know but they ruined the look of the os and did not follow material design at all) but they're a more budget option so you get what you pay for. Asus is out as they don't sell their zenpad line here in Australia but i wouldn't have gone there anyways as their update support is absolutely woeful and i think their bloatware situation is worse the Samsung considering they let anyone buy there way in to get their apps installed. I would have looked at a pixel c but it's out of stock at google and some eBay sellers are asking $1000+ so that's out. I'm not in a hurry to get a new tablet thanks to my dad giving me the nexus 7 2013 i gave him back so I've got something to use in the meantime until something comes out at CES or MWC.

I've owned Galaxy Nexus, N4, N5, both N7's. So, the N9 killed any trust for HTC, not Nexus. I got my older son 6P as his N4 was ageing out. Great phone! Too big for my hands, though. As my N5 was slowing down, I bought a 5X (after replacing DH's i4S with one and discovered I liked it). My first android was a pandigital novel which still works. I then got a 10.1" Toshiba Thrive.
Never thought I'd say this but, If you really need a good tablet. Personally, I'd recommend just getting an iPad instead (Coming from someone who uses 100% Android at all times)

I even tried that as we had two in the family. I replaced older son's ipad 2 with Samsung Tab pro 12.2-both sons got one as they have 1000's of digital comics, and that tab was the best for that. Even after jailbreaking the iPad, it was far too restrictive for me. Loved the display on the iPad. I'm just really picky [emoji20]

Well i took it back and the manager give me a full refund so that's the end of the nexus 9 experiment. Now to play the waiting game to see if any new tablets come out that are interesting.

I know, this was more then once a topic in this forum. But, I'm wondering why the Nexus 9 is sooooooooo bad.
My old Nexus 7 have an issue with battery, so I replaced it 2 years ago. By replacing, I demaged some cables, so no touch was working and autorotate was also broken. Because of this, my Nexus 7 come in the box and i bought a Nexus 9, because of really good experiences with my old 7.
Sadly, from the 1st day on, my Nexus 9 was lagging, heat up and multitasking is a unknown word. The Nexus 9 have problems with 1 ONE!!! open app. After short time, the app have to reload completly. If they are two or three apps open it goes worser with multitasking. I've tested all ROMs, all kernels - my Nexus 9 heats up, is lagging and opening the keyboard takes 3 to 5 seconds. It was never fast.
Yesterday I give a try to my Nexus 7. I found a YouTube video and get my Nexus 7 awake. Touch and autorotate works! Flashed latest LOS and the tablet is flying so fast. Multitasking works with more than 10 open apps hours and hours again and again.
My question what is wrong with the Nexus 9???!?!?!? Why this tablet is not able to use his potential?

I had one given to by a family member because it was so slow and screen was going all pixelated along with a screeching noise. First thing that helped off the bat for me is clearing the cache in recovery. That got things going pretty good and then to fix the screen going nuts and that loud high pitch noise, i had to disconnect the battery and then reconnect it. Doing the battery trick also granted even better performance in my testing. I also disabled animations in developers menu and turned off other things like nfc and things like that i never use. Runs good and not had a problem out of it so far. I'm running official lineage along with elemental kernel.
The 2gb ram is lousy but i got mine running good and is still respectable. I usually have brave browser open with 2 tabs and youtube going and i still have about 700mb-800mb ram free according to running services located in developers options. I use no overclocking or anything. I keep it at stock as the tablet gets pretty warm even at stock speeds. With everything closed i have about 1gb of free ram. Hope this helps. Sorry i didn't proof read this as i'm at work.
*edit* oh yea turned off encryption on the tablet also. This really boosts performance compared to encryption turned on. I came from a 2012 nexus 7 32gb grouper that has served me well over the years and the Nexus 9 easily smokes it with the way i have it setup now. I'm sure there are better devices out there but i'm happy with the Nexus 9 considering i have nothing invested in it.
If i had to guess the Nexus 9 main issue is the whole 64 bit thing going on along with the 2gb ram and only dual core cpu. Seems to me it would be better off if it was not 64 bit and then the 2gb would work a little more in it's favor. I dunno though, i'm not expert but just my opinion. Still a beastly tablet though and better than any budget tablet on the market now.
