Assistance Backing up and Restoring Game Saves - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been running completely bone stock, un-rooted Nexus 4 for a little over a year. I have finally decided to make the jump over to playing with Custom ROM and Recovery.
As much as a NOOB that I am, my thought process of backing data up would have been; Copy the entire folder structure from the Nexus 4's internal storage and placing it on my PC. After successful flash of a new ROM ( KitKat 4.4.4 from Google) I figured copying the folders that pertain to the app back over would restore my data. It did not
For example: The game Blocky Roads: I found a folder \Android\data\com.crescentmoongames.blocky_roads and a folder \Android\obb\com.crescentmoongames.blocky_roads. I ASSUMED this would restore my game save, however It did not.
So, couple questions for the Experts.
1. Am now at a loss of my game save, am I doing this right and missing something?
2. If I am at a loss; what is the Popular method of backing/restoring this kind of stuff?

Use titanium backup. Doing this will not work as the data for the app is not stored on your internal storage partition

Awesome! thanks for the speedy reply. I will check that out.

[Q] How to transfer The Sims Freeplay data

I have ran around on the internet finding no obvious solution and I was wondering if anyone has done this before. I have a Galaxy Nexus with some Sims Freeplay data on it and I am wanting to somehow copy the data to a different device running ICS. I've tried copying data via Titanium backup but when I install it on my other device (Infuse running CM9) it does not save my Sim data. Is there a file outside of the usual location for saving that Titanium Backup isn't seeing, or is it stored on EA's servers?
If anyone figures this out, I'll make a guide.

Usually for games the save data and other data files are located in /sdcard/Android/data/<app directory>.
For SIMS freeplay, it should be in /sdcard/Android/data/com.ea.games.simsfreeplay/
Copy that whole folder and put it at the same location in the new device, and you should have all the saved data.
Titanium Backup saves the app data from /data/data/<app directory>, which is usually stuff like preferences, databases and libraries. The other data like any external downloaded data, save data, thumbnails (for a gallery app) etc. are stored on the SD card and won't be backed up by Titanium Backup and other backup apps.
i try your method but it doesn't work, i even restart the phone,
any help on this?
I'm having the exact same issue. Copying over the Sims data folder does not work what so ever. I even attempted to copy over the cache and the com.ea.games.simsfreeplay_row-x.asec file located within the android_security directory. It just doesn't work nor I know where exactly the save files and or directories are even located for this game. I don't think it's online though.
I know this thread is kinda old.
but I'm still interest in transferring save data offline.
and finally, I've found a folder "/data/data/com.ea.games/simsfreeplay_row/app_doc"
which contain all the save game data.

I know this is an older forum post, but can you tell me how to access that file?
I restored the saved games folder on another device but it is still asking me to start a new game. It is as if the game app isn't reading the files.
Is there something else I must do
any progress?
I know this is a very old thread. Its 2019 and have the same problem.

[Q] Can I access an old backup to extract some files?

I am a newb here but learn fast so... Situation is, I have moved to Cyanogenmod9 and love it. I have done a lot of tweaking and arranging to my liking and am tired of all that. Problem is I need the info written on Snote files in the original ObjectionICS backup. Can I get inside that backup and extract those files or do I have to revert back to that backup, write down the Snote info I need, and then go back to the future..lol...and reinstall the backup I am making now, of C9? Also, will my "recovery mode" back up to internal sd card...return EVERYTHING to how it is now? I mean like disc image identical? Or will I have to reimport contacts, assign wallpapers, lockscreen widgets etc etc etc? Also, am I correct in making it back up "to internal sd card"? or should I have just hit yes to the first menu item "backup"??? Sorry if I'm being confusing or stoopid....
here this might help:
If you go to: wiki.cynogenmod.com/wiki/Howto:_Using_theRecovery (sorry but cannot post external links yet... )
Now if you used NANDroid backup then:
[NANDroid]A utility, accessible through Recovery Mode, that allows you to backup the device and restore to the exact condition at backup.

If you used CWM Recovery to backup before you went to CM9 then I believe you can backup as it would only backup applications and settings of said applications also backing up system data like sms mms emails contacts etc..
I would really suggest checking out TitaniumBackup Root Pro
I would also suggest that you also get these apps as to help facilitate better tools for backing up stuff, managing roms, and just all around must need applications for your android phone.
ClockworkMod Recovery Pro as it allows you to switch ROMs and works good with TitaniumBackup.
root explorer file manager the best file manager i know of for android allows you to easily move files around the file system and change file permissions also checkout link2sd for linking installing apps to external sd and easy switching of applications to and from internal and external storage.

[Q] Bard's Tale/Six Guns/etc Rom Flashing?

For those of you who flash roms regularly like myself, is there a way to not have to download these large game files every new rom flash? When i installed Bard's Tale i downloaded the HD version (around 3gb) and chose the option to install to SD Card thinking ok obviously this will download to SD card so when i flash a new rom i won't have to download all this again? Well wrong, flashed a new rom, restored via TWRP Data backup, still have to download Bard's Tale from scratch again. Obviously also doesn't save my game data!
Anyway to get around this and actually SAVE these games to SD Card so when i flash a new rom i don't have to download the game from scratch again?
I thought doing a data backup via TWRP and restore would also restore this type of stuff? Does it only restore the game saved data such as my progress in the game for mobile games with this kind of backup?
Might, maybe, you better off doing back-up for that while being booted into OS, with something like TitaniumBackup or MBP???
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
I had the same issue you mentioned when doing a rom flash with TWRP backup that I restored via Titanium Backup.
The games in question were "pinball arcade" and "Zen Pinball", so thankfully the data was only 500mb or so.
One way to get around this issue is to backup the data on your computer, however, that is not very convenient or fast.
The other way you *might* be able to get around this is by changing the names of the folders that the game data is in. I think the TWRP backup overwrites it for some reason because other data on my SDcard is still there after a rom flash & wipe.
So my theory is that by just changing the folder name or even moving the folder to a different area, you might be able to just copy it back to its proper location after you have flashed and restored your TWRP backup.
Sadly, I've not gotten around to actually testing this theory out myself, but, when I do I'll make sure to update everyone. Probably won't be until a new version of the Elegancia Rom comes out and I have to update, lol.

[Q]Help! Titanium Backup and Hexmob Recovery undelete?

You guys can laugh at my misfortune, but I need your help. A customer needed some work done that required downgrading his OS. So before doing so I used titanium backup to back everything up...to the INTERNAL SD!
Yeah one star TiBu, two thumbs way down. Why the heck would you default to the internal storage rather than the EXTERNAL? I guess it is my fault for not checking the location of the backup but I also did not expect the internal storage to be erased when flashing via Clockworkmod and Odin. I also did some OTA updates during my troubleshooting, this particular issue was very stubborn. Somewhere in there the backups were entirely erased.
Anyway, I used Hexmob Recovery Pro to backup the deleted files, hoping to salvage the apps and other user data. Well I got over five thousand files and they're all named like this:
f6826096.xml
f6826112.sqlite
f3946400.png
f6841912.txt
etc
This would be very handy if they were just pictures and other documents, but they're supposed to be a backup compatible with Titanium Backup. I tried to go to settings > preferences > backup folder location > detect > whole device. It didn't find anything. I tried manually adding all the files into the backup location that is listed by default, and they did not show up. I tried to force close titanium backup to force it to check the folder again. Without Titanium Backup able to recognize the files, none of them are going to do me any good. So:
How is a titanium backup structured? Can I make these files conform to that format so some of the user data can go back on?
Would anyone (via PM/e-mail) like to look at some of these files to help me identify if they belong to a backup? Most are XML or TXT files, which look like property lists?
How long is this process going to take? I think the customer's data may not be important but I promised I would not erase anything.

Need help restoring a backup file to my phone.

I'm new to this forum so i don't know wether i'm posting this in the right sub but i need help with restoring my phone's data. I stupidly used wondershare's "dr fone" to backup all my data on the computer which created a 15.9 gb .bak file. Problem is i didn't know that in order to restore this to your phone you had to have a subscription, before i wiped my phone. Now i am left with the aforementioned .bak file and i would like to know if there are any free pc applications that can restore all my data to the phone using this file. Thanks in advance.
Have you had a look at this thread?

Hi, thanks for replying. I just took a look. I tried a few other apps from google play since appbak was no longer on there, unfortunately none of them were able to use the file (I copied the .bak file from my pc to my phone's internal storage). I then found an old version of appbak through chrome and installed it but it also couldn't use the .bak file to restore my data. Eventually I tried restoring it through my phone's settings like a couple of people recommended but the only backup setting I could find was "Backup by Google One" (because my phone runs on Android One, which is focused on Google Services) and I could not use a local file to start restoring. At this point I might just try to restore my data manually but any further help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.
