Hi,
Ever since I upgraded my Sony Xperia Z2 from 4.4.3 to 4.4.4, I am unable to charge it with a portable USB power pack. It starts charging for 2 seconds and then stops, regardless if the screen is on, dimmed or locked.
Charging works fine via USB cable to laptop or using wall charger.
The portable power pack charges Samsung S5 fine without any issues. Only started since the firmware was upgraded.
USB Portable Power Pack:-
Capacity: 4800mah
Input: DC 5V 1A
Output: DC 5V 1A
Any ideas?

There was only 4.4.2 for Z2, not 4.4.3 but that's irrelevant.
Only thing you can try is to downgrade to 4.4.2 and try to charge again.
If that fails you will know it's portable charger to be blamed...
Try to connect it to PC and few other phones and check what's happening...
I mean, it's just a battery, if it's working on S5 it should work on any other device as well...
Quite strange problem...
I.m on 4.4.4, and my Xiaomi Mi 10400mAH PowerBank charged it fine

Try different cable. I had one cheap Chinese, it started to break off close to the USB plug. Phone said that it was charging, but it wasn't.
Ok. Seem to have gotten to the bottom of it.
Its not a connection issue as the USB cable fits tightly and firmly in the same way as the cable that came with the phone. IT does not move or wobble.
I think its behavioral.
Looks like when my battery is less then 30% and I try the cable that comes with the USB charger it starts and stops charging in 2 seconds.
But when I try the factory USB cable that came with my phone and a different thicker USB cable it charged fine.
But once it reached above 50% I could use the USB cable that came with the charger to charge it to full charge.
Its as if the phone requires a larger current draw when charging under 30% vs when the phone's battery is at +50% or over.
Is this possible?
I'm just guessing here.....
The thinner USB cable that came with the charger must have some current loss maybe due to the quality of the wiring.
Its Output is 5V 1A and my understanding that is the minimum amount of current required to perform a charge on this phone.
I'll keep testing it. Phone is currently at full charge. I'll let the battery get to under 10% (probably take 2-3 day) and then perform some scenario test and keep everyone updated. One thing I would like to test first is using the USB cable that came with the charger but using my laptop as the power source vs the portable charger when the phone is under 10%.
Thank you everyone for all your suggestions.
Will keep you all posted.

I just said, there's no 4.4.3 for Z2 (at least not official)

The OP probably made a typo and meant to say 4.4.2 as the version prior to 4.4.4

Portable Charger for Sony Xperia Z2
If your portable charger is not charging your Xperia Z2, then try another portable charger with inbuilt USB cords. This might help you!

Hmmm, this is a weird one guys.
I can charge my X10 only if it is plugged in to the USB port via the computer. However, when it is plugged directly into the power socket, it does not charge. Now, I've tried two different chargers, and both work when charging another device (my iPod Touch).
I don't understand. The cord can't be broken, since it works when charging from my computer? Yet, the charger (the thing that plugs into the wall) can't be broken either, since another charger didn't work and also both have the ability to charge my iPod.
What's up? :S
Thanks in advance.
NOTE: Even when charging while off works on the computer, just not when it's plugged in (and I am not using a custom kernel either). I doubt the ROM matters (since it still has the above problem while charging when off), but even so, I'm using v061 of Wolfbreak's 6.1.3 ROM.
Bump bump, bump it up!
Do you use the original SE in-wall charger? If not, thats the problem, if yes I recomend to test with a different wall charger (eg. from another device)
May be the cable it faulty? Because the PC charging uses a less amount of Volts (to my knowledge) and the charging while connected to PC is very slow. Did you try with any other Official cable?
It could possibly be your cable as mine broke a few weeks back (Same Problem), I just replaced the cable now its fine
Guys :-/
Went out and bought a new cable, and still not charging from the power Only from the slower laptop USB port :'(
I think it may be the X10 itself..
I am still suffering from this problem And sometimes when it's connected to the PC and displays 'charging', it instead discharges

Maybe the connector in the phone is broken????
Yep your usb port is broken, mine did exactly the same thing. You will have to send it to fonebiz in rockdale, nsw. I just got my phone back, took 6 weeks to repair!

Rockdale? 6 weeks?! Not going that far. :-/ I can live with just charging from the PC at the moment.
Thanks though Sad news indeed
Is is still under warranty? It will eventually stop charging from the PC too. I was waiting for parts to arrive so maybe they have them in stock now. That was 6 weeks from melbourne and back.
Going through the same thing in the US. I was told repair would be 5-7 days, but I'm sure I'm looking longer. If it comes back within the time frame they gave me I will be pleasantly surprised. I hope you're still under warranty and do your self the favor and send it in or soon you will have a very expensive paper weight. Good Luck!
I went through the exaxt same thing. It stopped charging from the wall but could only charge from computer but eventually stopped charging altogether.
Did you try taking out the battery and plugging in with the original se microusb cabe to the wall. After 5 min. put the battery in. First time didnt work for me but then i took out the battery again and put it back in immediately and then it turned on.
try getting a usb-to-wall charger, and plugging your computer usb cable into wall.

Out of curiosity, how long before each of your X10's stopped charging altogether? :S
Because, for me, it's been longer than two months and throughout that time I've managed to keep charging it via the computer.
Thanks.

I've 3 usb-to- chargers here:
From a MP20 phone, generic charger that can't charge my phone and also can't charge most of other devices, output power and voltage are low.
From an old Ipaq(not ipad) it does charge my x10 for some reason takes longer than the original, it says on it 1000mA and 5V, I don't remember the real amp and voltage on it.
And the original one, always charge really fast(2 hours for a full 0 to 100% when the phone is ON)
Conclusion, buy and original charger if you not using one, which seems to be the case.
OR, update your baseband if possible, as battery issues are normally related to baseband are normally the cause of this errors.
To make sure you can always try to do a SEUS repair.

Sorry to say this, but your are wrong man.
My charger says 5.0V which is exact the same voltage as any USB ports(exception for some internal USB ports used commonly for bluetooth and other low consumption devices that use 3.0 to 3.3V).
The difference is mainly on the amount of power amp it can supply, the original usb cable + wall charger provides 700mA, while in the PC USB 2.0 ports provide 500mA, 1.0 USB provide 100mA and 1.1 I don't remember now, generic usb wall chargers say sometimes they provide 500mA but they mostly provide 30l0mA and sometimes they do not provide on 5.0V they oscillate between 4.6 to 5.2V a good usb port have to provide 4.95V to 5.1V any difference from this may even burn a phone if higher and not charge or reduce a battery life if too lower.
Everytime a battery is not charged up the end of 100% they battery life gets a bit reduce as next time even if you leave it to charge up to 100% it won't really be at 100%, this can only be seen by measuring the battery voltage after the charge, fully charge it must reach up to 4.7V
on the battery or something like this.

If the cable is too thin(like 1.0 usb cables they can't handle 500mA if connected to an already extended usb port it may not get recognized and also not even charge.
Laptops usb ports may not allow 500mA it different for every laptop, some work, some doesn't and others your have to set that on bios.

Always when connected to the PC it should say charging, if it did say discharging at some point then there was something wrong.
But charging on the pc is very slow and not good.

Is it enough power from USB port to use for example in-car navigation, at least for 10 hours?
Using car charger shouldn't be a problem at all. The issue is charging via the USB port on your computer which puts out like maybe .5 watts. They make a car charger with the proper end to plug into the charging port.

I brought a USB cable that fits into the power socket on the media pad on ebay. Cable works like a charm and charges similar to using the charger that comes with the media pad.
The charger was less than $10 including worldwide shipping.

Pls give the link to this USB cable. TQ
You will find a lot of them, if you type "mediapad power cable" on ebay search
I also got one of those USB to power cables. Result is 86% to 100% in 54 minutes from laptop USB.
The unit does charge from USB, but that's an overnight thing.

I did the same, only paid half that for a US seller and actually got to me next day.
eBay Listing
I think he bought cable + charger. If it charges as fast as the included charger, then it must be a 2amps charger, and that is a bit more expensive than your average cellphone charger (usually between 0.5amps to 1amps).
If he indeed bought the cable only, then $10 is a bit too expensive. Even at $4 is still too expensive. Probably not enough competition to drive the price down.

usb charging
With CyanogenMod 10 my springboard charged quite happily via USB. from a regular 500ma USB port it would charge very slowly while in use and only slightly faster with the screen off. On a 2 amp USB charger from my Asus tablet or 2 amp cigarrete lighter -> USB adapter it would charge fairly quickly either way
Then I updated to cm10.1 20130515 and USB charging quit working at all
I performed clear & reset from both the settings menu and TWRP, rolled back to 20130501 but USB charging is still kaput!

Hello.
I need your help.
I've my Sony Xperia P since a week.
Today I noticed that the Xperia P is not charging on car charger.
While the charging flash appears, after navigating the device has less power than before. I started with 91% and at the end i had 83%.
I thought the problem might be on the charger and've tested two other cables.
In all three cases, the charging icon appears, for a short moment it comes a message "please disconnect the charger to save power" (Same which comes when full charged with the wall charger) and the battery continues to discharge itself .
Durring the other tests the Batterie went from 82% to 71%, and 71% to 59%
I tested a Motorola charger 5V 850mA, an HTC charger 5V 1000mA, and a Noname charging cable 1200mA 5V
All three chargers have work on my previous phones Motorola Milestone and HTC Sensation, aswell as on devices from friends like a Samsung S1 or a Motorola Razr i
My questions are now, you have these problems too? How do I get XP loaded in the car? Which car charger do I need? Or what settings I have to do to make the existing equipment work?
Or maybe this is just my device that is not in order?
I'm still on the latest stock rom, bootloader still locked, just rooted.
Thank you for your answers.
Greetings
Eismaus

Have you installed any battery related apps?

No, no Battery Apps installed.
Tablet is a rooted Verizon Xperia Z2.
If it's powered on it will not charge with original stock USB charger or a generic magnetic dock charger.
If I turn it off it charges perfectly with either charger.
What could be wrong?
Try Ampere app to see what's the tablet measuring!
I just bought an ebay refurb Z2 and mine won't charge with the usb or magnetic cable unless it's totally shut down. Won't even charge in standby mode with the screen off. Did you find a solution?

Had the same problem on KitKat 4.4.4., but after flashing Lollipop 5.1.1. It worked....
Hmmm, with my own cable (not original) I had the same problem in the past.
But when I used the original Sony cable, it worked well. !?!?!?
Hi all.
Has anyone faced the following problem with unoriginal charger:
I've bought BlitzWolf® BW-S10 30W PowerDelivery 3.0/ QC 3.0 charger.
It works just fine with my Sony XZ and Huawei Nova.
But when I connect Tab S3 - charging never starts.
In order to persuade the tablet to charge by BW-S10 I have to:
- connect any other charger to the tablet for 1 sec;
- and then connect the BW-S10.
In this case Tab S3 recognizes the BW-S10 and Quick Charge starts (according to the message in notification panel).
How can I fix this issue or at least find out the problem that prevents Tab S3 from starting the charging?
Cable is: ZMi AL301 Type-C - Type-C.
Tablet charges perfectly via original charger.
Thx.
There can be a few reasons that the charger cannot reliably start charging. First, it can be a buggy firmware on the tablet (check for the update, that might fix it). Second, there is a conflict between the charger and a tablet chipset (no fix to that). Third, there are multiple USB-C PD specs differently implemented over the USB-C devices manufacturers. (no fix to that). Based on the charger spec and Samsung's charging specs, I think that the tablet fails on the power negotiations, and that's why you have to plug original charger to "reset" and then you can use BlitzWolf charger that "herein" the previous power requirements.

I guess there can also be a conflict between charger and cable.
I'll order the BlitzWolf's USB 3.1 recommended cable an write if it helps.
As for firmware, Samsung promises to update Tab S3 to Android 9.0.
That can fix the issue as well.
