I have a stock ROM rooted on 4.4.2. Would love to know what bloatware/system apps I can safely remove.
Didn't you flash a debloated ROM already. If you want it lighter than you know you need S-off to flash an updated RUU to than flash Skydragon.

Wont be able to flash anything over 4.4.2,due to firmware requirements. And euro rom bases sem to be giving many folks issues unfortunately
I guess I'm just a lucky one @LightningKitsune
Cause I haven't ran into any issues running
Skydragon v3.0.1 with a non at&t firmware.I know feel like I'm leading you astray, I am sorry
AT&T HTC ONE M8
Not leading astray, more n more im seeing lately are issues with euro roms on att devices. Without soff cannot flash roms higher than was original software without issues.443-444 require the firmware update no matter if euro or us versions.

I did not. The only difference between completely stock and my phone is TWRP recovery, deoxed, and root. I just added xposed framework. Can't a app remove those bloatware apps? Yeah I know a rom would be easier, but I cannot S-off without paying for it, and I'm not going to, at least not until the new year.

I thought about doing that at one time. Should of, but didn't.
It appears that, possibly, greenify (donation version) has frozen a ton of apps, according to Titanium, since greenify is on Boost mode.
Also an issue youll have without the modified kernel and system protection module installed is if you remove them they will be there upon reboot

The beauty of freezing the apps (versus deleting them outright) is that if you experience issues you can always just unfreeze. Feel free to freeze whatever bloat you don't use.

I would also make sure that you have a backup in Twrp. If anything goes wrong, you can always do a restore from recovery.
Well it seems I can in fact remove the bloatware. I removed twitter and Facebook, they stayed gone after multiple reboots (was tinkering with a Xposed module). And yeah, I'm going to do a TWRP recovery backup now.
Last post, I used a app called ROM Manager Pro (I had it from years ago when I used to be on a gs3), here are a list of apps that are safe to remove in /system/app. I would recomend having a ROM backup before doing this because even though I tested this to be working, humans are known to make errors. Obviously dont remove that you find that you may like or use often. Apps in this location have a special reason to be, they have more access to the phone then your average User apps, so if you uninstall one and then later decide you want it back, install them in the Play Store and then use a app to make it a System app. Obvoiusly Root is needed to to all of this, and this is on the default Sense ROM of 4.4.2. I personally kept the myATT app since I use it frequently, but it is uninstallable and shouldnt break your ROM (doesnt mean it wont, some people have reported that the apps reinstall themselfs, but I havent had that issue personally)
(basically anything that starts with "ATT_" in the apks)
ATT_Amazon_Kindle.apk (Amazon Kindle)
ATT_Beats_Music.apk (Beats Music)
ATT_CityID.apk (CityID)
ATT_DriveMode.apk (DriveMode)
ATT_Famigo.apk (Famigo)
ATT_FamilyMap.apk (FamilyMap)
ATT_HotSpot.apk (HotSpot)
ATT_Keeper.apk (Keeper)
ATT_myATT.apk (myATT)
ATT_Navigator.apk (Navigator)
ATT_SmartWifi.apk (SmartWifi)
ATT_YPmobile.apk (YP)
I would Imagine other apps are removable like Google apps. A app I have says its labeled as "should keep":
Gmail2.apk (Gmail)
Hangouts.apk (Hangouts)
Maps.apk (Maps)
YouTube.apk (YouTube)
Some other apps I have removed (I dont use these clients, I use clients like Talon):
Facebook
Twitter
Feel free to add or add input if these did not work for you, but they did for me. I used This app to see what apps are safe to remove and which you should keep, and those you shouldnt touch because they are key modules, in red text next to the size of the app. The good thing about this app is, if you want a app back that you deleted, you can do so within the app.
Obviously, I hold no resposibility of your actions if you break your phone somehow. You should always make a backup, even if you are 100% sure that something will work, just in the offcase it doesnt.

Okay, as far as I know, the app named DeviceManager.apk does the job of updating. I have just freezed it with Titanium. It can also be uninstalled. My device hasn't been updated yet (I keep my wifi on 24x7).
Alright rjmohit, I'll look into it. Thanks!
Currently i am still on 1.4.0, if i farked up my NT and need to do the 8x interrupt powerup to get system restore, will any steps (i.e. allow wifi to be turned on to complete the initial registration process) update the NT to 1.4.1 before I get a chance to use Indirect's original zergrush method to root it again?
Thanks.
It shouldnt

Well, yeah! That exactly is the one!
For those of you who are unhappy with the 'unavailable' software number, you can head on to the nook color forums to deactivate OTA updates w/o disabling DeviceManager!
But as far as I know, this is the safest method, as the other methods mentioned there dont seem foolproof with the NT.
Has anyone tried to see if this method loses ability to put have off Barnes and Noble store. I dont books or apps available for purchase anymore.

Yes, by freezing devicemanager, you no longer have access to "shop" and if you try and shop online instead, the book, etc. will not sync to your library. So if you actually like using this as an E-reader the way it is designed (rather than using kindle app instead), then hope the FOTAkill.apk does the trick.
Sooooo where can i get fotakill.apk?
I rooted mine earlier with gapps but do not have it.
Fyi, i used the method mentioned on the nook color forum; sqlite to edit fota value from "auto" to "manual" in database and my B&N Store seems to be working fine. Device info still shows version 1.40 also.

You can find it in the first post of the rooting thread, under "Download Link for rooting script:" Inside the Nook&Zergy.zip file under system/app
Mod: If I posted in the wrong place, please let me know. I am new to all of this.
On my rooted NT/not de-bloated, I just received the OTA at ~7:45pm PST, it took ~3 mins to download then installed successfully. I had confirmed that FOTAkill.apk was in system/app yesterday so this did not block it.
Note: I have been using my NT with WIFI ON waiting for the OTA to hit hoping to confirm(not discount) Indirect's theory related to FOTAkill.apk.
Here is a review of my initial NT rooting success, the OTA update and current outcome of no root/no functioning gapps:
12/15:
1. Rooted using Indirect steps.
2. Installed Gapps (of course)
3. Did not de-bloat
4. Confirmed NT root access and installed terminal emulator, File Mgr, Root Explorer
After rooting: (all good)
Button Savior works
Android Market works
Amazon Apps Store works
B&N Apps works
Several launchers work. (Go, ADW, LauncherPro, VTL Launcher)
Use ADW Launcher EX regularly
Some issues with widgets not starting.
Google Services Framework error re-curring inconsistently but not detrimental to functioning.
12/21: Saw XDA post of OTA 1.4.1 warning:
Kept reading XDA forums to assess impact and wait for ideas on solutions
Saw Indirect post that FOTAkill.apk was installed in his rooting process.
Confirmed FOTAkill.apk was present in /system/app on my NT
Installed OTA Rootkeeper
Decided to wait for OTA update to see what happens
What I did not do:
No devicemanager.db edits as suggested by yaggermr post
No Titanium Backup freezing of .apks
No de-bloating (Unsure if proven that this would prevent but assume it does)
I did not confirm FOTAkill.apk permissions but had not changed them. (They should have been whatever they were when this file was delivered in root/gapps process.)
12/22: OTA update received
What was in place that I hoped would work:
FOTAkill.apk
OTA Rootkeeper(don't really know how to use this but think I did the protect and back up.)
Outcome:
Button Savior works
Launcher selection works as does the Launchers
Android Market does not open and the icon weirdly small on dock
Gmail not working
Amazon Apps Store opens and downloads but app install is blocked as non-B&N content.
All other previously loaded apps work. (that do not require root access)
Lost root access.
Next steps:
Full factory reset or sdcard approach seen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20502705&postcount=1
Then:
Edit devicemanager.db approach seen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20499801&postcount=2
Or
Freeze devicemanager.apk seen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20513770&postcount=6
FOTA kill didnt work, time for plan B. Most OTA's check the build.prop through recovery which means I'm modifying the build.prop to change to a nook color and see what happens. It should in theory work.

Then I can verify that blocking appears work. I'm in the same area and didn't receive an update.
I had frozen "DeviceManagerService 2.3.4" with Titanium pro. I also previously freeze "cloudservice 1.0" and com.bn.cloud.svc 2.3.4", and have not defrost them.
I tried to download TB from the market today and it shows as incompatible with my device. I did search the XDA Noteforum for similar errors and though just about every ROM thread popped up I haven't found a good match with my problem . Anyone else have this or can point me to a fix? I'd like to start flashing a couple ROMS on this phone (have flashed several Captivate ROMs in the past) but I'd like to be able to backup prior to doing so. CWM is installed and a ROM backup has been made already.
I have an ATT Note, Stock Rom, Mashi Root.
Thank you!

try clear cache from gplay app and try again also you can dl from your pc from gplay...
Thanks! Cleared cache in manage applications and cleared data as well.
The only TB that shows up in phone market is Pro Key which doesn't work without free version. Even clicking on the more from this developer option doesn't show free.
On the PC it shows as incompatible with both my phones (Captivate and Note).
More ideas?

What country are you in? Some apps are restricted. I had to change my CSC code when I was out of the US so I could use the US market.
See system/csc/ and open the sales_code.dat file and see if the code is ATT.
The only other reason is your dpi settings are not the default.
Southern Cal but not far enough down to worry about hooking a Mexican tower. Mayhaps I'll need to install that .apk

Thia suggestion is for both members with the funky market. What I do sometimes is google for the old app then let it auto update.

Get the old market apk, install it, and let it upgrade.
One more option is an app called Market Fixer:

I never understood what those partitions were or why I'd need to worry. A while back I did a full wipe and nuked my whole phone, so I did a stock recovery using LG's tools and factory images to zv4, I believe, then went from there through BarePop and BarePapA. Coming from that I should be okay, right?

autoprime explains those partitions in his thread. But those of us on ZV4 bootloader seem to have issues with them.
It won't hurt anything to flash ZVB. And if there's issues, just flash back to the ZV4 ones.
ATM I'm still using ZV4 partitions.
Check out prime's thread fo some info on them.
You shouldn't have any issues. Just do a clean install As this is a whole new ROM
It's basically prime's rom with the fixes we like added. That's all. Bone stock with some sweetness.

At least one more. But not minimalist. Mostly weather, concierge and the LG tattletales.
But that'll all depend on what breaks doing it. I like to keep it all working if I can.
In post #2, I have added "Ad Blocking" and Stock host files. I absolutely hate ad's and the Blocking one blocks about everything, without needing an app. 2 problems though....
1. Some find them too restrictive and can't get to sites they normally would.
and
2. I seem to forget to remove it when I release a ROM. So these are here for... not if, but when I forget.
Is there a sprint changelog for zvb or something? searching about trying to figure out what is different in this update... appreciate all the time and work spent on us sprint folk. Thank You.

Just so I'm making sure i have it right, the blocking ones are in the rom by default? Just wondering because i just finished installing V1 and all my apps and I'm getting ads.
On that note, i just want to say thank you for yet again providing us with a smooth stable rom. For taking the time to make it and upload it for us. It is truly appreciated as i flashed the stock one this morning and OMG I forgot how much crap they put on these things.
Anyway, thank you for making my phone usable.

It's the regular ones. I'm almost done with V2, and yeah... I left them in there. But the regular ones are back in now.
Anyway, there's no issues flashing these back and forth. The host files that is.
Thanks. Glad to hear it. Yeah, I can't handle bone stock either. That's why I get these base roms out so fast.

Thanks. I briefly looked at source last night, and there's about 3mb more in size. So I would guess quite a bit has changed.
Also, because you called me out in it in the past, zipalign and sqlite3 aren't executable either. I tried a few different ones with no luck.

So I decided to create my own rendition of what LG should have made Verizon release. So, here's the first and currently only 47A custom ROM...
Things I've moved from the stock 47A base:
All OTA Stuff
95% of all Verizon stuff
All Google Stuff, except Chrome
All Amazon Stuff
LG Contacts
LG Dialer
LG EasyHome
LG Email
LG Favorites Widget
LG Voice Mate
LG SMS
Some ringtones
and some random bloat
I added the following:
The hotspot hack...
Googles Dialer (v2.3, not 1.01) has builtin VVM
Google Contacts
Outlook
Signal SMS
Motorola Alert
Some ringtones
Features:
Systemless Root
BusyBox
Permission SELinux Boot
Boosted Volume Output
Systemwide DPI = 590
Deodexed
Known Issues:
To come...
Installation:
MAKE A BACKUP FIRST!
If you aren't already on the 35B bootstack, flash it.
I recommend TWRP 3.0 because it's what I used when recompiling everything.
Wipe data & cache...
Flash the full release and any updates WITH A HIGHER BUILD NUMBER.
Reboot and enjoy! (If you are asked to install SuperSU, DON'T!!!)
After flashing the full ROM, it will reboot one time before booting fully.
Keep an eye for updates. Keep your phone updated.
I am uploading updated full release builds every couple of days so if you need to reinstall for what ever reason, you won't have to download a ton of updates.
I've modified the original system.img instead of created extracted folder type of ROM for flashing like most people do. I find this MUCH safer for flashing.
Download
Credit for parts I used to make this go to

Questions & Answers...
Q: I don't see the VVM table in dialer?
A: This relies on your using Google Voice. Like the actual Google Voice app. You can have it co-installed with Hangouts and it won't effect anything. Verizon DOES NOT allow Google Voice to auto configure the settings. You'll have to do that manually. When it gets to the page that has 3 buttons, one will be skip, one is configure and the other is something else. Press skip. When you have completed that part and you are looking at Google Voice inbox screen. Go to the phones dialer. Type *71[Your Google Voice number] *90[Your Google Voice number] and *92[Your Google Voice number]. In 'call settings' of the phone's dialer, you'll see an option for voicemail carrier, make sure it's on "your carrier" not google voice.
Q: xCam doesn't work for me?!!
A: There's a new version on the Dev's page for Marshmallow. The other versions won't work.
Q: Google announced a newer version of their dialer and contacts app, why can't I update?
A: Once Google actually releases the next version, you can always download it from APKMirror and install it as if it was an updated app manually.
Q: Can I use Verizon's Visual Voicemail with this ROM?
A: Yes, download it from here and flash in TWRP.
Q: I don't seem to have root after flashing the full release and the updates... What can I do?
A: Flash this file...
Q: When I receive phone calls, no one can here me! What's going on?
A: The problem is you aren't running 35B bootstrap or if you are, your modem isn't 35B for some reason. Flash the 35B bootstrap.
Q: I am not running 35B bootstrap, where can I download it?
A: Click here...
Q: I can use "Ok, Google!" from any screen with this ROM?
A: Yes, download the patch from here and flash in TWRP.

Cool I will check it out and get back at u Thanks!
It's great to see devs still making roms for this phone. Thank you. Will check it out.
Thanks Roxana for sharing your Rom. Quick question since others may ask. Since you're using Google dialer then I'm assuming that advanced calling/video calling doesn't work through Verizon as well?
xposed supported?

That is correct. I'll be releasing a patch file people can flash to restore the stock dialer so they can have that.
Edit: I was just looking at the thread for the stock 46a rom release, Advance Calling doesn't work on it's correctly and a few have said it's due to us not having a 46a Bootstrap. It's one of the reasons I prefer Google Voice.

Why did you remove the stock sms/mms? So far rom seems fast and stable. In the stock google dialer when you make a call it looks like the lg dialer? Any ideas to make it look completely like google dialer.

I removed the stock SMS/MMS app because it's hideous. Android 6, aka Marshmallow, has a very refinded UX. LG is just starting to work in that direction. They just haven't got there yet. I could have put Google Messager instead of Signal. Signal is VERY similar to GM as far as the UX goes but has way more features and security to it.
Thank you for your work! I'm up and running, only thing i had trouble with was chrome not working due to an error. I tried clearing cache and data without luck so I ended up unistalling via TB and reinstalling from play store without issues. Everything else is smooth and quick! Thanks!

Thanks for letting me know. I'll see what's up. What error was it that it gave? It is a beta. I'm going to be working on fixing any issues that everyone finds and getting the next release out soon. Also, if people can post their download speeds and what speed connection you have. I'm curious how Google is doing for hosting the file or if I need to find a faster place to store it.
For me I could not download direct to my phone, kept giving a fail message. To my PC it was okay. But AFH is always a good spot to upload things, my 2 cents.

By the way the stripper zip in the other thread basically turns that rom into this rom right?

Mostly. I made that with no intent to release a full ROM. Now I'm releasing a full ROM. I'll be putting up an update tonight. I'm also going to be hosting it with Microsoft instead of my Google Drive... I found them to be A LOT FASTER.

I unfortunately can't remeber what the error was now and it's fixed so infant replicate. Sorry not much help. I did have trouble with the download as well. Took me about 5 or 6 times to get a complete download. Other than that it's been running great all day. Will the update be a dirty flash or clean wipe? I'm also giving the outlook Mail app a shot, I like it so far. Thanks again!

I'm glad you are enjoying everything and that it's all running smoother. I've tried to produce an error with Chrome on first boot but I'm not able to. Might have been you're phone was already updating Google Services or something like that.
I'm already uploading the new update to Microsoft. It's going to be the full ROM just so I have a full copy on there. After this, it should be all incremental updates. This one and all that follow can be dirty flashed unless it's posted otherwise, which I hope never to have to do. Of course if you are having issues after flashing an update, wiping cache is always a good idea since I'm also working on framework stuff for future releases.

-For me, this method did NOT restore stock recovery.img -- although I *think* it was because of KNOX / SELinux; either way it is a non-issue after FlashFire is installed next.

Install XPOSED Framework w. - *Must* be done manually via custom recovery (not available for G530R4 to my knowledge) OR by using FlashFire v0.27 BETA
FlashFire v0.27 BETA *Required*- http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/paid-software/flashfire-t3075433
- Do not proceed without this application.
-This tool is required to replace the function otherwise filled by a custom recovery capable of flashing .ZIP files directly to the device, from the device.
-MUST- Sign up for beta testing, to install the FlashFire beta APK this worked for me on the first try
- Note: FlashFire action queue will have a warning about Samsung write protection possibly causing issues if the Stock ROM is custom modified (i.e. such as after Rooting with CF-Auto-Root; this did NOT give me any problems; also, I did not change ANY default settings within FlashFire.
- Note: AFTER YOU FLASH THE XPOSED .ZIP the first boot will take much longer than usual, entire flash & boot took ~15 minutes for me.

THANKS!
I appreciate this post a lot, because I guess nobody has a G530R except us and a few others. I find this strange, because you can get USCellular from WalMart with this phone for a little over 100$ and it is only 45$/month for a decent amount of data (and is unlimited after). Anyway, just wanted to thank you for this and ask a few questions.
I was wondering if you have any suggestions or any tips for backing up, to prevent data loss. I used ADB to create a backup that way, but don't know what way is best. I don't care about time and am used to command line, so that isn't an issue. I just don't know Android OS well enough or the backup systems to know what is going to create a complete backup. I was trying Flashify, but am confused about what it is exactly saving and what is needed to restore. I want to make several backups. 1 complete (all apps included) and 1 just the OS. I don't know what is necessary for just the OS and want to make sure that I don't softbrick my phone. I was thinking the backup I made with ADB would be sufficient, but don't know if that covers the AOS. I also want to keep an OS backup on my phone and want to make it as small as necessary, to save space and keep in on my sd card. I don't know which is the better route to go and how restoring works with Flashify, since TWRP and CWD don't work. Do I always need to use Odin or ADB? What is the difference between those? Any help would be greatly appreciated... ESPECIALLY, since, like I said earlier, nobody has this phone. Also, I don't know if I should use the newer versions of Xposed or not. I have heard that they need supporting software and want to keep it simple. Do you know any good rooted-apps? What Antivirus do you recommend after rooting? I have it narrowed down to Bitdefender, avast, 360, CM Security, Kaspersky, or Norton. I believe I am going with Bitdefender, due to the free version being comparable to paid versions of the others. I am great with computers, but want to learn all I can before moving forward. I thank you for helping me with rooting the phone! I have other OS Copies and don't know how to tell if they are good or not... Is there a way? Will flashing them possibly softbrick or even hardbrick my phone if they are wrong? It is just so complicated with a Samsung and having a USCellular phone, since I am also worried about losing my prepaid service and having to buy a new one (if I accidentally clear their info). Finally, are there any apps you recommend for improving performance? I pride myself in boosting Windows this way, but have no clue when it comes to phones. All of this is an attempt to get the virtual gyroscope module to work, so I can play some decent VR games (since they require gyroscope and the ones that don't have crappy graphics). Please let me know if there are any knowledge base resources specific to this phone or any apps, rooting kits, rom apps, or custom recovery programs that are out there that you use. I would greatly appreciate it! ... sorry for droneing, but I am just so excited to find someone else using this phone! TYVM for what you already have done!
Hi guy great looking post I've been searching for a guy like this but Google always points me to g530h or some other model do u have a working custom recovery as well I can't find one and can't port one to save my life I'm at work but I'll try this as soon as I'm home

I know I'm probably a couple years to late to answer your question I just couldn't help myself... First of all since you would be familiar with flashfire to complete this guide that is what you Should use to take your back-ups since it will take everyone of the backups you listed plus it will let you choose the format whether it be .img. zip .tar etc
Second antivirus I honestly don't run one and don't know many people who do on their modded phones.
Third since you followed the guide of The OP and run Xposed greenify and amplify are musts for battery performance I also personally love luckypatcher and if you play Google Play games you will too...
Also if you know computers as well as you say you do their are many guides how to create a TWRP or CWM recovery here on XDA so you could always just make one for this phone.... The only reason there isn't one is most likely because a developer hasn't got sold of this phone seeing as how u.s. cellular is such a small company... Sorry if this was for nothing I just felt like I wanted to put in my two cents
