Evening all,
Just been updated to OS 4.5.1 on 7" HDX, I can't seem to find a root for it as of yet. Does any one know if its available yet?
Thank you,
Clickbait title :/
Same here. My Kindle Fire HD 6 got updated to the same thing and I really want to try rooting it but there appears to be no way to root it
I'm in for a fix too.
even if this is bait thread, lets hope it will spark something that leads to it

root for fire os 4.5.1 needed
Hello all,
I just got my hdx 7" today and unfortunately updated to 4.5.1 ota.
Is there anyone trying to find a way to root?
If any new root is known please tell me.
Would be nice to get access to google play store e.g.
Thanks a lot.

You may be able to downgrade to a rootable version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/general/rollback-to-devices-upgraded-to-4-x-t2946946
People keep referring to this thread but I have contacted Amazon about 6 times now and all 6 people told me there was absolutely no way that they could or ever would roll back your software. All 6 said once you upgrade to 4.5.1 there was no way what so ever for them to take you back. I even got a couple of emails from there tech support team stating this. So no, customer care will not roll back your software.
I had a very unsucessful back and forth between like 12 different people at Amazon with no success. I even provided a few apps in their store that will absoutely not run in 4.5.x (Quicken 2013 for example) and they had no interest in rolling me back. Though I did not have them explicitly state that a rollback was impossible. They just apologized that their forced software update was causing me grief and to deal with it.
Possible way to root. Was reading info on this vuln CVE-2014-7911 and it seems like it might be a way that KitKat could be rooted. It was patched in Lollipop. Just thought I would share.

I did some reading into this, and it turns out we'll need a bit more than that to get root access (i.e. another exploit).

My device is also updated to 4.5.1 .
After talking to the nice amazon support i came back not to set the device back.
nevertheless i have to wait until some of the xda guys will hack that too.
i got the nexus 7 before. so i have to say that the kindle hdx7 is much better then nexus7.
but it is crap within fireos there is no possibility to login to spotify with the google account. also on some other apps. thats really *hit.

The software really is the crippling factor, not the hardware. It's just sad that Amazon still can't see that and tries with every effort to lock down those that try to get around it.
whats the chance of upgrade?
Does anyone know what the chance of upgrade of 4.5.1 to stock android rom for fire hdx 7" and possible timeframe?
Is there anyone still working on it and are we just waiting for source code to try and find a way to unlock it.
I just picked up a fire hdx, but it came installed with 4.5.1 and the software is pretty unusable compared to my old jellybean tablet.
As a sidenote would it be worth trying to turn off ota updates so they are not kept ahead of any patch?
Damn this thread. I want my click back. lol
Man, I updated too, is there a way to turn off the automatic update?

After looking over the source code for the HDX Toolkit, for some reason I think the way it does it might still work on 4.5.1.

The Razorclaw rooting method has been successful for a few of the "early" units obtained, but curious if those getting theirs now with the official release are still able to root.
For those that attempt, please indicate if this was before or after the OTA ...
Thanks
Has anyone tried this yet with their new Prime? Curious to see if it still works after the OTA. I'll have mine tomorrow to try but wanted to know if anyone did it already.

Thanks for trying. At least I know now to apply root first before OTA and see what happens, maybe root will be held, even though I doubt it.

it might hold. I know, with my Atrix4g, it holds root after several hard resets. My Ota doesn't work so not too sure. Even after hard reset ota wont work. Must have deleted something essential that ota checks for. Thats why I will wait for Ics b4 .
Tried it post OTA and didn't work for me either. Should have applied the root first but I was impatient.
I have learn my lesson before. I have put a hold on the ota so far but haven't try to root yet. Waiting on more concrete way that Razorclaw v1.0.1 will work and wont brick it.
Man, we are really the early adopters.
No root pre-OTA either.

I did the OTA without thinking and feel retarded about it... The number one reason I'd root at this point is to remove apps that I'll never use...
What will ICS bring
I want to know what ICS is going to do for the browser on the Prime.Scrolling & page rendering on some pages on my xoom was horrific. My friend comes along with his dang ipad & loaded & scrolled through the same web pages with ease.

I think you need to be at build 8.8.3.23 in order to root. I can't get to the demos at gamestop but I think might have been the build of the one I rooted. I have been asking if anybody that goes to gamestop to stop and see what the build is on the demo, but no one has done it so far.
It's a negative for me also. throws up an error: 256

I thought all gamestops had to send their demo units back to Asus in early December. The tablet store that I got my prime from no longer had it for some reason when I checked in mid December.
By the way, I tried to root my prime out of the box with Razorclaw, and it gave me an error. I doubt any of the gamestop models are rootable because they probably applied the fix when adding the games. I'm guessing that the only models that are rootable are the ones that were in the very first production batch that didn't have wifi issues and passed right through QA.

I rooted a gamestop demo the day it came into the store. I think i even saw it on the display when I went to pick mine up. If my schedule isn't hectic tomorrow, I'll probably go back there and check the build and see if the root is still on there. Was wondering if there was anything I can take from it (any folders/files/partitions) that would help get the root back on ours.

Hi Ive been trying to root my Nabi 2 tablet to access the Google Play Store. Ive downloaded ADB and followed instructions, Ive also got the correct drivers etc, when i ran the root tool by jmz I chose option 1 and it ran through the process, is there anything else I need to during during this as I then booted up and it was just the same as before?! Im normally an apple fan and experienced in jailbreaking etc but this is my first android as Im trying to exchange all my apple devices for android lol. Can some help me find a step by step full tutorial as Ive been trying to follow the one in this link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1905674 but I cant understand what else I need to do?! Thanks in advance
Anybody?! JMZTAYLOR if you see this can you please write a quick tutorial on what I need to do as Im clearly doing something wrong. Its probably just something so simple Im missing?! Any advice would be highly appreciated, sorry if this post is extremely noobish Im normally very adaptable!
Any Luck?
I was just wondering, it's been over a month with no post here. Did you get it working? If so can you post your solution or a link to the thread with the solution you used?
Not sure about the root tool for your device, but any good root tool will install a superuser app, such as Superuser:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su
Not sure if you got your issues sorted yet but if you go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905674 I am sure someone could help you. I just rooted 2 in about 20 minutes over the weekend. Good luck
There's no need to root the nabi for the play store...
http://everythingnabi.blogspot.com/2012/08/googlie-booglie.html
Interesting, except for step 21:
21. Do not update or attempt to install any apps, as it will force close the Google Play Store. The apk file installed is not fully functional on the nabi 2 Tablet. It does however allow for the purchase of Books, Movies and Music. The following pop-up will appear if you attempt to update or purchase an app.
If you root you will have a fully functional Play Story as well as text AND video on Google Talk plus many other features

I want to get Google Play working on my son's Nabi 2 as well, but I'm pretty concerned over the touch calibration issue some people are having on the ROM thread about rooting it. I've only had one android device (my galaxy s2) and thought about rooting it, but couldn't find an overly compelling reason to do so. Now that the Nabi 2 needs it, I would be loathe to brick it/mess it up to get this calibration issue. Even if I try on my s2, this Nabi seems a tad different for some reason.

That is a very rare issue. If you root it and have a problem with the touch screen it only effects recovery software once it's rooted and gapps installed you won't have to go back to recovery.

It is indeed a rare issue, if the script goes fine, you shouldn't have to do anything in recovery yourself anyway. Here is the gapps.zip that fixes the 'android upgrading' on every boot.

If you want a more manual approach, check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016463
It's written for Ubuntu, but the commands are easy to adapt for Windows as well. You install adb and fastboot differently and you remove 'sudo' from the commands.

Nabi 2 works great with Amazon App store (over 50,000 apps). Ex. Unless I installed Minecraft PE, my son would have 2 tablets for Christmas, his with no minecraft and mine with. In daddy mode you can get amazon and the installed apps are manageable in the add/remove to decide which apps to allow your child to see. PS: DO NOT add Amazon store to Nabi mode (unless your child is older, or unless your rich and don't mind your child maxing out a credit card on apps). Personally, I have jailbroken ipads for friends and rooted my last Motorola phone, but I wouldn't risk and consequences of screwing up your child's brand new tablet. You can go from Hero to Zero if you mess up.

Just be prepared to lose a bit more battery life when you install the Amazon app store. I have heard about it taking up a bit more battery due to licence checks, running in the background and such.

Also - stupid question - is it technically feasible to install the Play store without rooting?
I'm new to the forum, but I just recently purchased a HP Slate 7 Extreme and I was wondering if there are any root methods other than vroot or kingo that would work with this tablet. Vroot works but XDA still considers it suspicious. There are methods for other Slate 7 models but not for this one (HP4400us). Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi ! You can try this method : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCpjNjrSLTw#t=0
It was tested on Slate 7 Plus but it should work for every HP tablet.
Just ask for translation of Youtube's subtitles if you can't understand french

Dude, is this tablet awesome? I'm actually quite excited to buy this tablet when it lands in the near future in my country (fingers crossed for that!). I know that this tablet is the HP's version of Tegra Note because they are similar one to another. I also know this tablet is insanely great for gaming, note taking, picture drawing, movie watching, etc. But what is the downside that you found on this tablet? Is its battery life any good? How long can it survive to play intensive games in the row without resting the screen?

Yeah but once you root I believe there are ways to get around that.
Ah, I see. I'd love to root it, but is there a way to unroot? I got the tablet from my job & I want to unroot if they decide to ask for it back; which I doubt, but I don't want to risk it. Thanks for the info!
I'm not sure if HP has the kitkat recovery available for download but I do know that they had 4.3. Since I was rooted I had to manually update to 4.3 and then update to 4.4 ota. That caused me to lose root so I am assuming doing something like that would un root. Again I am just assuming.
yes, hp does have the kitkat recovery available for download. I downloaded it last night and flashed it and now I'm running kitkat. The only issue now is getting back my root. Lost my root after flashing.

just found out the new 8.9 hdx gets Sangria with 4.4.2 kernel coming late October
which automatically rings the bell, will we receive the update and thus (hopefully allow)root -> gapps roms etc
any thoughts? too early?
link here mentioned 2013 models wont receive it but i'm still being hopeful, if that's the case it makes Amazon one of the worst offenders of OTA update, basically the device was stuck on 4.2.2 from factory.
http://www.cnet.com/au/products/amazon-kindle-fire-hdx-8-9-2014/
The 2013 models will be recieving FireOS 4 according to this http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014...k-new-e-reader-beefed-up-hdx-tablet-keyboard/
Basically this
Along with the new Fire tablets comes a new version of Amazon's "Fire OS," dubbed 4.0 "Sangria." Sangria is based on Android 4.4 KitKat and has little more than user-experience refinements. These include ASAP (Advanced Streaming and Prediction), which pre-loads content that Amazon predicts the user will play, as well as Smart Suspend, which detects when the tablet is not in use and turns off the Wi-Fi to save battery. The new version of the OS will ship on all 4th-generation Fire tablets and will be available to 3rd-generation tablets as a free over-the-air software update.
The 6-inch Kindle HD will be priced at $99 and the 7-inch at $139, while the 8.9-inch HDX will be $379 for the Wi-Fi version of $479 for a 4G version. All versions will be available for pre-order starting Wednesday and set to ship in October. The Fire Keyboard accessory will retail for $59.99. Amazon will continue to offer the Fire HDX 7 for $199, though it will not receive the 4.0 Fire OS update until "later this year."

Yeah. You do have to let it settle for at least a full minute. But now and then I get lack of response. For example, I have to keep tapping the same spot 10 times. I reboot at least 5 times a day. Ugh!

Sangria might take care of some of those quirks I have. I need to have root at least though for the things I use it for. I don't know why Amazon doesn't give up. It's not even illegal anymore and they can't void the warranty anymore

Ok I bought a blacklisted 2014 Fire HD 7 off ebay thinking it would be an easy root and I would be in business and that was almost a year ago and still a no go. Yesterday I wanted to try again and I see to root it I need it to update to 5.0.1 but when I have it check for updates it tells me none are found. Yes WiFi is on and working. Why isn't it finding the update? How do I force it?

Yesterday I wanted to try again and I see to root it I need it to update to 5.0.1 but when I have it check for updates it tells me none are found. Yes WiFi is on and working. Why isn't it finding the update? How do I force it?

Because version 5.0.1 is in beta. You can easily get it to update by going to developer.amazonDOTcom/get-fireos5.html replace the DOT with . and signing in with your amazon account and check enable next to your device and then check for updates and there you go
Its blacklisted so you can't register it to an Amazon account so this won't work.
